A Quick Win is an already developed solution idea linked to a known root cause. i.e., it allows your team to jump into the Improve Phase of Lean Six Sigma project. The only major determination left is how to implement, assuming the team has been granted the authority to make the change.

These Quick Wins are often identified in the Define or Measure phase. There is still a requirement to complete Define and Measure of the Lean Six Sigma project, to clarify scope and to be able to measure a change, but there is no need to go through Analyze Phase for this root cause and solution as they are already known.

When a small area, step, area, or section of a process has a known root cause and the solution is unknown, then it is best to apply the Japanese developed methods of continuous improvement called Kaizen. A Kaizen Event is essentially an accelerated DMAIC Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control Project. A Kaizen focuses on specific improvement objectives such as Setup Reduction, 5S, Process Improvement, Line Balancing, etc... Although the Vision of the Future State may be in place, there is still a requirement to go through the Analyze Phase to determine HOW to make it happen as opposed to just how to implement a developed idea, as in the case of the Quick Win.

Quick Wins provide momentum for the project by driving value, measured in dollars early, thus improving ROI (Return on Investment). Quick Wins also provide confidence to the broader organization that Lean Six Sigma is a viable approach to process improvement. Quick Wins also reduces stress on project team to Get Something Done!

When we find these opportunities there is no need to wait months for implementation. We should implement change as soon as possible to begin reaping the benefits. When we have a Quick Win, we by-pass the Analyze phase and move straight to Improve.

Simple enough - right????

There are literally millions of people looking for funding. On the Internet a person can find millions of web sites offering funding services.

All of us are constrained by the number of hours in a day, so we need to work with deals that have the highest potential of closing. We don’t have time to look at the millions of potentials. We need realistic deals, cooperative clients, and deals based on sound financial reasoning. We don’t need sales hype and blue sky promises.

The biggest mistake most Financial Consultants make is they chase deals and waste time on transactions that will never close. With the right process, these deals could be quickly eliminated. The biggest mistake Clients make is thinking that they can receive millions in funding with sales hype, instead of proving the financial soundness of their transaction.

How do you qualify a potential business loan or venture capital deal?

Other Clients decide that they don’t have time to answer questions. Instead they blast out their sales pitch, which doesn’t provide the basic answers all Funders need. This type of Client thinks they can hard sale the deal, and control the funding process. It doesn’t happen.

Along with the Executive Summary a current Balance Sheet should be submitted, providing the company’s financial position within the past 30 days. This is an extremely important document for the Client to provide.

Many Clients provide the Executive Summary, but don’t provide the Balance Sheet. Of course the immediate thought is the company isn’t in good a financial position and they are trying to hide that fact until they find a Funder. If the company’s financials are in poor shape, it is going to be found out. If there are skeletons in the closet, open the door and reveal them. Many lenders and investors are willing to deal with many issues when they are told up front. If a Client starts the relationship by lying and hiding the truth, does anybody really think there is going to be a good out come?

By using a Qualifying Process transactions are quickly qualified, or eliminated. At The Project Corporation, we call them “5 Minute Deals.” Not because deals are funded in 5 minutes, but rather the information is quickly reviewed and the Client will have either provided quality information, or not. They therefore qualify for the next step, or they are eliminated as a potential. We don’t waste more than 5 minutes on a deal that is not going to move forward.

1. Do not sit there and expect your phone to ring. Pickup the phone and call a prospect.

2. Have a plan for marketing your new business.

3. Target your marketing.

4. Follow through.

5. Even if all you have found so far are bad deals, learn from them. Why are they bad? What marketing are you doing where you only find bad deals? How can you improve?

6. Read something about finance every day.

7. Talk with your Funders and learn the qualifiers they are looking for.

8. Don’t waste time with deals that won’t close.

9. Don’t waste time with a Client that won’t provide the required data.

10. When you have a prospect, and you are going to e-mail a Funder, do not type “Hi” or anything like that in the subject line. They don’t know you. Communicate professionally.

Don’t type, “Income Opportunity.” Funders are not interested in joining a multi-level marketing businesses.

You can type “Funding Request,” or “Broker Info Request,” or something that will catch their eye so they know it is business related and will open the e-mail.

As you know, many e-mails are filtered to the Junk E-mail. If you don’t hear back from a Funder, it is likely they never read your e-mail. Don’t get upset, or take it personally. Funders get hundreds if not thousands of e-mails every day. It would be to your benefit to call them first. Introduce yourself and let them know you have sent them a Funding Request.

I once had an old car that I drove back and forth to work. It was pretty beat-up, but it got me where I wanted to go. One day I noticed that the engine was getting awfully loud. So I climbed underneath the car to see what the trouble was and found the muffler pipe had rusted through. Instead of fixing it correctly by taking it into a muffler shop and having a new pipe welded on, I decided to be clever and patch the hole in the pipe myself.

I took an empty tin can and cut both ends out and split it on the side. I wrapped it around the rusted hole in the exhaust pipe and clamped it on with hose clamps. I started the car up and it sounded so much better. I was so proud of myself for fixing my car with very little cost or effort. My worries were over – or so I thought!

The next day as I was driving to work I began to smell a strange odor in the car. It got worse and worse and suddenly I realized it was smoke. I looked down to see where it was coming from and saw smoke coming from the carpet on the floor between the two front seats.

I quickly pulled over to the side of the road and turned the engine off. I looked under the car and found my clever exhaust pipe patch glowing red hot. Had I driven my car much further it most certainly would have burst into flames. That was a close one! I ended up taking my car into the muffler shop anyway and having an expert mechanic weld a new pipe on. It ran great after that.

How many times do we have something in our lives that needs to be fixed and we attempt the quick-fix, the clever and easy method, only to end up with a near disaster in the end?

Some things in our lives take more than band-aid fixes. Living in a "microwave" society of "I want it fast and I want it now!" With that comes the Predators that capitalize more and more on the "Get rich quick" kind of mentality that is so prevalent. These Predators are growing by leaps and bounds on the Internet, flooding a once legitimate market with their relentless scamming. They stalk potential victims under the cloak of integrity and prey on people's desperate financial situations. The Predators do this by appealing to either the desperate need for money of the victims or exploit their sense of humanity that drives these many good intentioned people to try and help somebody in need.

The stories concerning these scams truly abound, a sad fact to the insatiable greed of these Scammers, so I will just use one that I dealt with a lot when I was working for a large Delivery Company by way of example, and warning. Working close with security I saw the devastating effects this particular Get rich quick scam, or better yet "work from home business" as they are fond of calling it, had on the people who were lured in to partake of it.

How the operation works:

This is mainly a Nigerian Scam (just 1 of many), and what they will do is advertise on the Internet under the guise of "work from home" wanted, payment processing or payroll supervisors, processors, and "christian work from home". Then once their "prey" are baited in to the seemingly on the up and up work from home opportunity, the Scammer will send them an envelope with several postal money order checks in the amount of anywhere from $300-$1000. Enclosed in that envelope will be a a copy of a letter that goes like this....

Greetings to you, My name is ..........and I have been directed to make this payment to you by the company you represent in the USA. As soon as payment has been received, you are to inform them immediately via email to Serves as prove and evidence that payment has been issued and sent out buy our firm ans we do not owe them anymore for the good supplied. Please follow this instruction on how to cash below.

I have left the money orders blank to avoid any mistake in your name and address so Immediately payment has been received, your are to fill in my name and address as below at (From) them fill in you name and address at (PAY TO), I will also like you to know that these USPS money order are like cash as they have been paid for so you will not be paying any sort of fees to cash them so after filled take them straight to you bank an have them cashed right over the counter or deposit them into your ATM account and fill a withdraw form instantly for the amount of cash deposited and then follow next instruction by your boss on where an dhow to send the money to after deduction your 10% commisssions. Besides the fact that this scammer just butchered the English language and has repeated grammatical errors (I copied this from an actual confiscated letter mind you), you are being asked to deposit or cash these postal money orders into your bank account.

You might say, hey what's wrong with that?!

Well, when the unsuspecting "successfully" deposit or cash the money orders then they figure the whole deal is legit, and proceed to wire their money to the predator minus their 10% as instructed, usually to a bank account in Nigeria. Weeks later the bank discovers the money orders are fake, and the depositor then becomes responsible for the missing funds to the tune of usually several thousands of dollars.

Know what to look for:

If you come across one of these adds be sure and look for contact information on their website. If it is truly a legitimate opportunity then that person will make them selves accessible.

Think twice before agreeing to deposit money orders into your bank account from someone you do not know! You are held responsible for that money if those are fake. Which I can assure you they will be!

In conclusion, yes there are a lot of amazing Internet opportunities with the potential to make large amounts of money. But, if you have the "Get rich quick" mentality, you might end up having the "get broke quick" dilemma!
