Buying "in season," she adds, doesn't mean much anymore because so much produce is available year-round, imported from South and Latin America and even New Zealand. "Just because you can buy nectarines in February, though, doesn't mean they will be tasty. Fruits that come from faraway fields tend to suffer the most because they are picked long before ripe. Vegetables hold up better over the miles."

There you have it. No quick-pickin’s! If your nearest produce retailer calls wilted spinach “fresh,” leave it and go to the next store. Choose local produce when you can, it lasts longer, and you support your local farmers.

Today's food buyer has choices which previous generations never dreamed of. At any given time of the year, they can go to the wholesaler and buy produce that was once only seasonally available. You can have strawberries in November and corn on the cob in February. One is tempted to throw restraint to the wind, offering a year-round menu of unlimited potential.

The problem with this, is your offering will be homogenized, mediocre, and bland. To say nothing of not being as healthy as it could be. With produce more than anything, you can taste a very pronounced difference between an item fresh off the tree and something that's been frozen and stored in a bin for six months. Produce is at its peak nutritional value when it is fully ripe. But fruits and vegetables that will be packed to travel long distances to the market point aren't picked when they are ripe, but instead before ripeness. While the produce may gain color and softness on its journey to the wholesaler, nutritional value comes directly through the stem from the living plant. Once harvested, a vegetable is as nutritious as it is going to get. Furthermore, nutritional value actually decreases every day past the point of harvest. So, when the item comes off the tree or vine, it has a set amount of nutritional value, and the clock starts ticking as it loses a little bit each day.

For large commercial vegetable farmers, nutritional value isn't even at the top of the agenda . In the long-gone days when all produce was local, horticulturists who were developing new strains of fruits and vegetables only had to consider taste and nutritional value.

With much of the growing and harvesting today handled by machines and with produce being shipped around the world, several other criteria take priority with taste and nutrition taking a back seat. the focus is instead on how sturdy it is, how easily it can be shipped, and the eye-appeal. When today's farmer may never even actually touch the produce, things that make it easy for machine handling like uniformity of size even come into play.

While all of these new criteria are important to the grower's profits, they add nothing to the health of the consumer. If anything, they may detract from it. Sturdy produce that stands up to lengthy shipping will be shipped over long distances, taking many days on its journey to your kitchen, and losing nutritional value and flavor with every day that passes between harvest and serving.

An excellent hobby for a chef is gardening. Raising a little home plot of backyard produce is good for getting you out of the kitchen and in the nature environment. And there's no comparison when you harvest - you will never forget your first bite of a tomato fresh off the vine, and from then on store-bought tomatoes will taste like licking a brick to you. You make little discoveries - fresh strawberries retain enough of their sweetness that you don't pucker when you taste one, blackberries fresh from the vine actually taste juicy, and yellow squash on its first day has a skin that isn't leathery.

Spinach tastes rich and crunchy, not like the canned slime you see some places serving. Broccoli tastes so wholesome, even President Bush would eat it. Chives have a sharp, assertive flavor instead of tasting like peppered chalk.

Lacking that, the next-best thing is the farmer's market. Products at farmers' markets are renowned for being locally-grown and as fresh as just-picked this morning. Since locally-grown produce does not travel as far to get to your kitchen, the difference in mileage saves on fossil fuels, allows farmers to pick produce at their peak of flavor, and preserves the nutritional content of the fresh produce.

Furthermore, the produce can be organically grown, since it isn't being boxed and shipped half-way across the country. Farmers who sell direct often introduce innovative little enterprises of their own, like humanely-raised and kosher meats, handmade farmstead cheeses (Do yourself a favor and taste one of these! The best cheese you ever tasted from a store will forever taste like plastic compared to a fresh farmstead cheese!), eggs and poultry from free-range fowl, as well as "heirloom" produce (as opposed to genetically-modified) and heritage breeds of meat and fowl.

Farmers' markets help farmers stay in business as well as preserve natural resources. In some countries the states are coming forward with legislations and therefore, the people of India should also think on these points and they should also pass a legislation through which they should stop those parents who are not in a position to give proper life to the children . Such parents have got no right to produce children because they are creating burden on the earth, on the society around them and then they are creating a burden on the state in which they live and they are enjoying their life because these children are no burden on them and these small children are deployed on different works and they are earning for their parents. Such parents are criminals, people who are committing sins and misconducts and the states are not identifying these people and are not awarding them punishment. That is the reason such countries are not going ahead with all their efforts and they are still lodged in those compartments which are called compartments for backward people.
Time has come when the state must come forward with legislations and only those parents be allowed to have children who are in a position to give due bringing up and proper education to their children and if they are not in a position to provide such facilities to their children then should be sterilized under the law or the state must come forward to take up all the responsibilities of such children. In most of the backward and developing countries the states are not in a solvent position and therefore, these states are not taking up any responsibility and these unwanted children are adding to the miseries of the people around them. Till the states can come with such legislations, they should take up all the responsibilities of these children and every child sent from the side of God should be given a happy welcome and he should be properly accommodated and brought up in a right manner and all his faculties be utilized for the welfare of people of the country. A child who has come on this world should not be allowed to suffer only because his parents are not in a position to bear his costs. And since we had been leaving all to the parents, we are creating all types of people who are committing crimes, sins and misconducts and because of these illegal activities, the whole nation is suffering law and order problems. So first of all the nations must concentrate on the children who are coming on this earth and they must arrange for proper settlement of those children.

In another word, most printing service can directly accept PDF as the artwork source. Thus, you will need to find a way to output your finished artwork as PDF. Fortunately there are free options out there. Below are two of them:

1. Scribus opensource software for desktop publishing. This can be used to produce base file or artwork for print. It outputs to PDF.

2. Open Office suite can also produce PDF outputs. For pamphlet and flyer layout designs, open office may be good enough. Additionally, you may wish to do some of the fancier graphics in another program and import them into Open Office Writer as bitmap image files.

For more specialised graphic design works, there are many free options as well. The more popular ones are:

1. GIMP for general and web graphic design. This software is the free equivalent to Photoshop, which is one of the most widely accepted graphic and photo editing software in the world.

2. Blender3D for 3D graphics. This program is ideal for making rendering such as 3D logos and product packaging.

Both software can output JPEG or TGA files which can be imported into your preferred desktop publishing program such as Open Office Writer.

The steps for producing a Money report or chart are very simple. In a nutshell, you just select the report you want and identify the range of transaction dates that should be included in the report. To produce a report or chart, take the following steps:

1. Display the Pick A Report Or Chart window.
You use the Pick A Report Or Chart window both to select the report category you want and the specific report you want. To display this window, click the Reports link and then select Reports Gallery.

2. Select the report category and then the report.
Use the Pick A Report Or Chart window to select both the report category and then the report. To select a report category, click one of the categories listed along the left edge of the screen. To select a specific report or chart, simply click it in the main area of the Pick A Report Or Chart window. For example, you might select Spending Habits report category by clicking and then select the Monthly Cash Flow report by clicking again.

3. Select an appropriate date range.
You create a report using a specific range of transaction dates. For example, you
might want to summarize income and expense data for the month of December, and in this case, you need to specify a date range as running from December 1 through December 31. To make a date range specification, click the Date Range
box’s button and then select one of the predefined date ranges. If none of the predefined

To produce the report or chart using the specified date range, click the Go To
Report/Chart button. Money produces the specified report using the specified date range. For example, you might show a Monthly Cash Flow report using the date range January 1 through March 31.

NOTE Predictably, the reports look slightly different from one another. Also, some of
the entries listed in the Pick A Report Or Chart window are not actually tabular reports, but graphs or charts.

In the news: Good news to environmentalists, General Motors Canadian subsidiary has recently announced it plan of building hybrid versions of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks at its Oshawa truck assembly plant situated east of Toronto.

It’s been quite a while since GM and other automakers have planned of increasing their production of hybrid vehicles as a solution to the ever increasing gasoline prices. GM has invested in a hybrid power plant in Oshawa, Ontario Canada where it will produce its first hybrid Silverados and Sierras which are scheduled to go on sale in the fall of 2008.

David Paterson, GM Canada’s Vice-President of Corporate and Environmental Affairs indicated that the production of the hybrid Silverados and Sierras will not result to an increase workforce. “Right now we produce 1,335 pickup trucks a day in that plant and the rate of production will be similar. And then the percentage of vehicles that will be produced that are hybrid will totally depend on the market reaction to the product,” said Paterson.

The vehicles that are to be produced at the Oshawa plant are to be exported to the United States, although Canada is also a huge market for GM’s full-sized pickups. The announcement regarding the hybrid Silverado and Sierra was given ahead of the Canadian International Auto Show which will start on Friday. The hybrid pickups will not be on display since they haven’t been created yet but according to reliable sources it will not be visually different from the redesigned Silverados and GMC Sierras that will later be introduced at the Toronto Show.

“The only thing that you would see different in 2008 is the badge on the back of it that says hybrid and an indication in the driver cluster as to when you’re in hybrid mode and when you’re on regular gasoline engine,” said Patterson. The hybrid Silverados and Sierras are still going to be equipped with top-of-the-line auto parts and accessories like the GM floor liner for a more appealing interior.

And since the Silverado and Sierra are going to be turned into hybrid, they will be equipped with internal-combustion engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that is charged by kinetic energy produced as the vehicle brakes.

GM’s hybrid Silverados and Sierras will utilize what the automaker calls “two-mode” technology that makes use of electric motor to assist the pickups while running at highway speeds and not just when the vehicle is starting and braking. “We call it a two-mode because, basically, the transmission allows you to use the electric motor in either one of those two types of circumstances,” explained Paterson.
