With so many different cellular phone options, you may wonder if there is any special advantage to purchasing one of the several Samsung phones on the market today. Actually, there are some good reasons for going with Samsung as your phone of choice. Here are a few examples.

Price

Generally speaking, Samsung phones are priced competitively with other phones on the market today. Prices will vary, depending on the features included with the unit, which means there is probably at least one Samsung cell phone that will fit just about any need. If there is a limited budget for cell phones, then looking at what Samsung has to offer just makes sense.

Features

Samsung offers units that range from basic features to a wide range of extras. For people who simply don't need much more than a reliable connection, the ability to make and receive calls, and maintain an address book, there are several models that will work very well. At the same time, Samsung has phones with Internet capability, messaging, audio and visual media streaming, cameras, and all sorts of other options. There is a good chance that whatever the consumer wants, there is a Samsung phone that will fill the bill.

Locking and Unlocking

Many types of Samsung phones can be unlocked from the service provider and temporarily or permanently used with another network. While the process will vary somewhat from one phone to another, this is usually not a difficult task. However, there are some models of Samsung phones that are not designed for unlocking, so it is always a good idea to check before making your final purchase.

Many major service providers support the use of Samsung phones, with several of the providers actively promoting Samsung units as the phones of choice. Make a list of the features you want, and visit a cell phone retail outlet that carries Samsung products. In addition to models that are currently in the store, you should also be able to obtain information about other Samsung phones that can be special ordered. Chances are you will be able to identify at least a few models that will fit both your wants and your budget. VoIP Phones

Lee Smith Business/Business 2008-05-04
View Detail
VoIP Phones are the telephonic devices used for VoIP services. It can be a normal standard analogue telephone or the exclusive IP phones that can be used for VoIP communications only.

To avoid confusion, both types of phones send conversations as data packets across the internet connection to the other caller. In other words, unlike the conventional telephone communication, no wire transfer is made use of in the case of VoIP.

In fact, this is the biggest advantage of VoIP phones. Since there are no wires, there are no much installation troubles, which further means less installation and maintenance costs for the customer. Since VoIP calls are carried out over the internet, the actual cost of the calls are much less than standard long distance telephone calls using conventional phone handsets.

The only money a customer may have to shell out is the monthly tariff for the VoIP and internet service provider, both of which combined won't cross £/$100 in normal cases.

Now let's see how VoIP phones work. VoIP infrastructure includes a leased line connection, or ADSL internet connection, a VoIP phone or handset, a router, and a gateway. The router sends the telephone calls to the internet and the gateway, also known as the ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter), converts analogue signals to digital data packets prior to sending across the internet. Here, it must be kept in mind that for IP phones, since it comes loaded with all the required hardware and software components, it can be directly plugged to the router bypassing the ATA. Now, at the recipient's end, the digital packets are reconverted back to the original analog format, and are then send over a Public Telephone Switch Network or PSTN to the number the caller had dialed. The whole process is many times efficient and quicker than the conventional wire communication.

Then there are soft VoIP phones or virtual VoIP phones that can be installed in a laptop or desktop. It works almost the same like the real VoIP phones, the only difference is that the dialing component here is simulated as a user interface on the monitor and the users have to click on it using a mouse to dial a number. Further, since the soft phone loads all the required VoIP features, no additional external components is required to make the call. All the behind scene technicalities will be managed by the service provider himself.

If there are any other advantages with VoIP phones, then it is that it gives the customers maximum flexibility at virtually no additional cost. While the traditional telephones are tied to telephone lines permanently, the ATAs can be taken with the customers to virtually any part of the world. Then by connecting it to a telephone and an internet connection, one could make VoIP calls to any other phone in the same ATA network for no cost. For other networks, it may cost a bit, but a lot cheaper than long distance calls.

Finally, all standard VoIP phones comes inbuilt with features such as caller id, repeat dialing, call transfer, and call waiting, which may be missing in most unsophisticated conventional phones. For advanced features like call forwarding, forwarding to voicemail box, giving busy signal to the caller if busy, or playing automated messages, however, the service provider might charge a fee. Such paid services also include the facility to check voice mails over the web or attach messages to an e-mail that is sent to one's PDA/PC.

Cell Phones

Consumers’ buying choices of cell phones are influenced by both the available features and the form. With every killer feature added and modification in forms made, the consumers keep changing their minds. It is almost a rage to get hold of the latest model. This guide is written with a focus on the basic features to help you arrive at a model which will serve the daily needs as well as be trendy.

Categorization by Features

Size and weight
Those bulkier and heavy weight models of the wireless phones are things of past. You will be amazed to find one weighing as low as 2 ounce with no compromise on the essential features. You have to decide based on your usage and lifestyle what features matter most to you.

The models are slightly heavier if you desire to use it as palm computer, wireless phone or as a camera phone or if the instrument is prone to rough use.

Display

Screen is one of the features you will want to consider before you buy one. The screen size is around 2 inches by 2 inches but you may want to see the world clearer and brighter with it. You may even want to see the web pages, still photographs, 3D games, music videos and TV. A slightly big screen with high resolution will satisfy the requirements. Go for the ones with TFT or Active Matrix screen as they provide a wider viewing angle than the LCD screens. They are also ideal for playing games and for taking and viewing video clips.

Many cellular screens handle information the way a computer would. The screens can download, process and store color images and displays. The quality however is not as good as computer screens and televisions and a lot depends on the resolution of the screen. Newer generations of cell phones have better displays with true color images, easier to work with and compact size. Screen resolution is thus an important feature that one can’t afford to overlook.

Address book capacity

The name of your caller is flashed on the display, if the name is stored in the phone’s address book. This is a common feature with most mobiles. There are some models capable of storing this information in the SIM card. This saves you the headache of typing in the name of the contacts each time you change your handset.

Ringing tones can help you identify your caller. The polyphonic ring tones too have become a standard feature with most handsets. You can look out for the models that can play MP3 songs as ring tones.

Cell phones come with address book capacity ranging from 100 to 1000 contacts.

Talk time and Standby time

The battery life of cell phones is expressed by either the talk time or by standby time. The total duration you can talk on your cell phone without recharging the battery is called the talk time. While the cell phone is in talk mode, it keeps on drawing additional power from the battery draining it fast.

Leaving the cell phone on without putting it to any other use too will discharge the batteries. This is standby time.

Network type

Networks determine whether you will get good coverage in your cell phone. Most cell phones are geographically sensitive, you step out of the range and the reception is gone.

Two networks are incompatible in the sense that different technologies are used to transmit voice and data. Thus a CDMA network phone cannot be used on GSM or vice versa.

Each network is used by various carriers and offer distinct advantages. So when you are choosing the carrier, consider the following features:
reception in your area
phones and tariff-decide which has the most economical plans
cost of extra services like voice mail, text message receipts, push e-mail
3G and streaming video
customer service-take feedback from friends and family members

Digital Camera Resolution

Camera phones image quality ranges from 0.3 pixels to 5 Mega pixels. Add to this the features like optical zoom, auto focus, automatic timers, flash and editing options, and night mode. Customers have been rushing back to the stores for brand new models introducing new killer enhancements. These higher mega pixel cameras are narrowing the gap between cell phones and digital still cameras.

Auto focus feature makes a lot of difference in the picture quality. A 2 Mega pixel camera with auto focus will produce superior photos than a 3 Mega pixel camera without the same feature! If you are interested in photography go for the camera phones that can shoot video clips. It may be just 15 or 30 seconds in duration though. You may even be able to upload your captured shots directly to the photo sharing sites.

Installed Memory

Memory is an important part of a handset. Every handset comes with a decent amount of installed memory. Most have expandable memory slots to store photos, music and applications. The various types of memory cards available are:
Flash Memory Cards- likely to replace the presently used storage mediums
Secure Digital(SD) Memory Cards
Memory sticks
RS-MMC (Reduced Size MultiMedia Cards)
Micro Drives
MMCmicro Cards

It matters which format the phone supports, as each card has its own storage capacity. It will decide how much you can store and how much will it cost. A 1 GB microSD card is about $45 while a 1 GB miniSD card is $27 and 2 GB card $79.

Categorizations by User Type

Basic Cell Phone Users- If your primary requirement is just making and taking calls. A basic handset having features like text messaging, voicemail, clock, address book, alarm clock and calendar should meet the requirements. These cell phones can take in lot of abuse than the higher end models. They are comparatively smaller and lighter and offer better battery life because they lack many of the battery draining features found in the expensive models. Check out for good sound quality on calls. Such models are made of plastic and less expensive materials and not the usual chrome and metal.

Office or Business Users- As a marketing executive you may use more than 20 hours of play back time while traveling, 5 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time as you surf the web and navigate through the calendar. You want to stay organized and connected to office, but you don’t want to always carry your lap top around. Well all this is possible with Smart Phones and will come at a cost.

The cell phone will act like a lap top connecting back to office with internet access. Some models have browsers and can get you access to almost any website. Wide sites can be viewed with scroll left and right options. Another must feature is push e-mail, your inbox is always up to date. If you travel a lot look for good roaming plan.

MultiMedia Phones- For the Elite User or for them who wish to use the handset other than for talking and text messaging. These handsets come with trendy features: big bright displays, full color screens with good resolution, multimedia messaging, camera phones, playing video clips, live TV and 3D graphics for gaming. You can play MP3 and also other music files.

Categorization by Price

Low range cell phones- The cell phones in this range are simple with essential features for conversation and messaging. They come without the flip cover and other frills. Some include color screens, polyphonic ring tones. Extras like Bluetooth and cameras may give you a great feeling, but if you are not going to use these features, it is waste to invest on them.

Mid range cell phones- The cell phones in this range will have better feature list than those in low price range like: better display, good sound quality, camera with 1 to 2 pixels with zoom feature, MP3 and FM capability and some with great looks. Some models come with high end ranges of one feature while compromising on other features.

High range cell phones- Recently launched ones with high end features come in this category. The bevy of features include more memory capacity, cameras with up to 5 mega pixels, touch screens, brighter, better and huge displays, and business applications.

Categorization by Brand name

There are umpteen numbers of brands there out in the market luring the customers with great features! Companies fall into oblivion and are also fast enough to recover with a few mergers and takeovers. A good research will help you feel confident about the purchase. Concentrate on the manufacturer’s feedback rating, percentage of positive responses and also what extra features they provide at the same price when compared with other manufacturers. Some models of popular brands are:
Nokia
Samsung
Motorola
LG

Musical Phones

Lydia Ramsey Business/Customer Service 2008-05-05

"Let me transfer your call." What goes through your mind when you hear those words? Do you have visions of being placed on hold, waiting for someone else to come on the line, repeating what you just said, and then hearing one more time, "Let me transfer your call?" Feelings of frustration set in and your confidence in the company you dialed begins to diminish. It's a game of musical phones played to a tune that no one enjoys.

If you don't like being transferred from person to person over the phone, your customers don't care for it either. There are a number of ways to transfer callers without creating more problems along the way.

Listen to the caller's issue. Even if you think you know immediately what people want and who can help them, hear them out. Don't interrupt. You could learn something that will change your mind about how to handle the call.

Avoid saying the word "transfer." Tell people that you need to "send" their call to another department or employee. Offer to "connect" them or "put them through" to someone else. Using a different term can save your callers undue anxiety and fellow employees from having to deal with edgy customers.

Check to be sure that the person to whom you are sending the call is actually available. Your customer will not be happy if the call unexpectedly goes through to a voice mailbox. If you know that the person who can help is not in, ask before transferring callers to voice mail. They may prefer another route.

Verify that you have the right person before connecting the call. If you aren't certain, ask the caller to wait while you check. Tell callers why you need to transfer them.

Give your caller the name and the direct number of the person to whom you are directing the call. That way, if there is a disconnect, your customer knows whom to ask for when they call back. If you have the ability to stay on the line and make an introduction, that is all the better.

If you want to provide customer service that will delight your callers, offer your name and phone number and invite people to call you back if their needs are not met or their questions are not answered. Thoughtfully and carefully transferring calls reflects positively on your entire organization and will eliminate musical phones.

Digital phones are lighter and more compact and have a longer battery life. When you are inside of a calling area the quality is better than analog. Digital phones support new features like caller ID, text messaging or wireless internet services.

2. What is a Dual Band Phone?
A Dual band phone is a phone that can operate on an analog and digital service.

3. What type of battery has the longest life?
Lithium-Ion or Li-Ion batteries have the longest life. They also happen to be the lightest in weight. The two pluses means there is minus attached, which is price. A li-ion battery will always be the most expensive type of battery available.

Mobile Phones from the Formidable Finns

Nokia mobile phones are almost ubiquitous. It’s definite that you or someone you know has a Nokia mobile phone. After all, who hasn’t heard of Nokia?

Nokia: From Start to Finn-ish

What started, surprisingly enough, as a pulp mill in 1865 has become one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers in the world, accounting for half of the capitalization in its home country of Finland. Sure, the company’s been through some rough years. Their fiasco with their television division gave them some heavy losses in the late 80’s but, overall, they’re one of the most noteworthy companies in the world. They had a key role in many of the milestones in telecommunication, such as the first ever GSM call in 1991 – this was made on a Nokia mobile phone. They’ve even managed to make their mark on Hollywood with the much-documented cameo appearance of their Nokia 7110 model in the 1999 film The Matrix.

The Beginning of a Finn-omenon

The Finns clearly had no intention of staying on their own turf. Their products quickly spread all over the world, particularly in Europe. By January 2007, the Nokia 6230i mobile phone model had become the most installed handset in the UK, while the bestselling handset in the world is another of their products, the Nokia 1100.

Nokia has become a worldwide force because their portfolio of mobile phone models caters to just about every market segment. They can provide everything from a basic mobile phone to a music phone to a GPS mobile phone that’s got everything but the kitchen sink. Nokia is well-known for integrating so many functions into their mobile phones, making them all-in-one devices.

For instance, their Nokia E90 Communicator is a quad-band mobile phone that is capable of hi-speed internet connectivity so that it becomes a mobile phone that can access the web as well as make voice and video calls over IP. Of course, this handset is also a digital camera and video recorder, among other things.

Nokia also has something in store for the groovier and younger set – the Nokia 5700 Xpress Music which has just been recently added to their repertoire of digital phones. Aside from standard functions, this phone has dedicated keys for accessing music and video files as well as for taking pictures and video. It also has a PC-Phone music file transfer application built in. It has in-built hi-fi speakers but if you want more amplification, you can buy the optional Bluetooth speakers, also from Nokia.

For the traveller, Nokia has also introduced their top-of-the-line Nokia 6110 Navigator phone which comes with a GPS navigation system (in voice and full 3D) so that one can access and view maps very easily.

Nokia is also responsible for the first WAP mobile phoneNokia 7110 – which was released in 1999 and the first mobile camera phone Nokia 7610 – released in 2004. Their apparent liking for firsts has helped make them the world leader they are today.

Nokia: Setting the Trend

Nokia is undoubtedly one of the biggest trendsetters in the mobile phone industry today. Their N-Series mobile phones have redefined the consumers’ notion of a multimedia mobile phone. Their N-Gage mobile gaming phones have further blurred the line between a gaming console and a mobile phone. Even their accessories push the envelope, such as their Bluetooth stereo headsets for Bluetooth mobile phones that use the fledgling A2DP technology.

Nowadays, Nokia is at the forefront once again. Their new Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology blends wireless Internet connections and GSM technology into one mobile device, giving the user greater flexibility.

Nokia mobile phones are reasonably-priced, well engineered and very user-friendly. Their Series 40 and Symbian Series 60 user interfaces, in fact, are some of the most popular today. In fact, an analysis of the mobile phone market in 2006 revealed that Nokia is in the lead with approximately 33% share of the market. Indeed, for something that started out as a pulp mill over a century ago, Nokia seems to be doing pretty well for itself in the industry of mobile phones.

Mp3 Mobile Phones

A few years ago, the craze was for the iPod and the MP3 player, portable digital devices which replaced the portable CD player. At around the same time, mobile phone manufacturers must have started thinking "There's a new market here"...thus the birth of the MP3 Mobile Phone.

Now, just about every notable manufacturer has made at least one of these phones. They combine the usefulness of the mobile phone with the entertainment value of the mp3 player, and most also have the integrated camera and video recorder which is standard on most handsets now.

Most MP3 phones tend to be of the 'slider' variety, with a couple of exceptions such as the Ericsson W950i and W960i, and the Nokia 5310. The younger sister to the 5310, the Nokia 5610 has not only the slider design, but also has a sliding bar on the front of the phone so you can easily switch between phone, MP3 player and radio. On most MP3 phones the music will cut out during a phone call automatically, and you can have the player on while doing other things on the phone like browsing the web or sending messages.

Most handsets come with minimum storage, depending on the model, but memory cards are quite cheap to buy. The MicroSD card starts at just over £10 from most phone stores, and comes in a 1GB, 2GB or 4GB size. The phones are set up so you can transfer music, videos and JPEGs directly from your PC by use of a cable, or Bluetooth if you have it on your PC.

So if you want an MP3 player and a mobile phone, and can't decide which to buy first, don’t. Get a phone that thinks it's an MP3 player instead, and save money.

Look for pay monthly or phones/pay-as-you-go/>pay as you go mobile phones with built-in MP3 player. Compare tarriffs and deals on mobile phones before you buy. You can often find the best deals on mobile phones if you buy online.

With speaking figures compression methods, the broadband phones diminish the figures time as the voice signals are encapsulated in compressed IP packets. As a matter of fact, these IP packets are routed over the internet. This method is recurring at the receiver's end and the IP signals are converted back to voice.

To make a call with broadband phones, one would want certain tools such as exclusive hardware symbol as well as software. The hardware tools would involve the ATA and a common receiver. distant from that, the broadband speed internet connection is another important wantment for making the calls. The users can simply invest the software from the internet on their respective phones to like passion. The ATA or Analog phone Adaptor acting a necessary character in making the calls, as it digitalizes the analog signals before routing the same over the internet. This way, the users are able to experience internet telephony just like a even receiver service.

The VoIP phones permit the users benefit the add-on profit such as simple convey of similes, videos and texts on the same IP group. thus, incredible quantity of bandwidth is a former wantment to access the information and make the calls over internet. Cell Phones II

Ian Ball Reference Education/Science 2007-09-28

Even before the iPhone, cell phones were getting more and more applications that could be useful to their owner. It may have started with the fabulous product called "ring tones," or it may have started earlier, but it turns out that as the DSP (digital Sound Processor) chips in cell phones became more powerful it seemed a waste to not use it for more than just voice grade communications.

One of these other uses appeared as snippets of favorite music used to replace the old fashioned "Ring" of a telephone. Actually, even the old standard ring tones were being produced by the DSP as music.

It only took a little bit faster and more powerful DSP and some more memory to make it possible for the cell phone to converge with the MP3 player, (a generic version of what the trademarked iPod is). As Research In Motion sold vast numbers of its famous Blackberry email, and web appliance, the cell phone industry took noticed and began to add these applications to "standard" cell phones. RIM, for its part added cellular phone features to its Blackberry devices.

As the market forces drove cell phones, iPods, and Blackberrys toward each other’s markets, each added features to enhance its own features and to make incursions into the territory of other devices. Along with all of this development in the cell phone industry, there were other developments in the "cell" end of cell phones. Tower technology developed better quality transmission with lower power, and better coverage. The companies offering cell phone service multiplied and merged with POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) companies, and the ability of the consumer to contract for the service that served his/her purposes best increased by leaps and bounds.

One of the "other features" that have appeared in the cell phone industry in recent years include the appearance and disappearance of "roaming charges" for the most part. If you are paying roaming charges find a different service.

Another feature is "unlimited off-peak hours." This feature allows you to make calls without using "minutes" during the non-business hours of nighttime and weekends. Associated with this feature, you may find "unlimited incoming calls." Some service providers also offer unlimited "in-plan" calling.

With everything that the cell phone service providers are giving away, it is hard to see what is left to charge you for. With that consideration, I ask, "Why is my monthly bill always over $100.00 when I am on a plan that is supposed to be $39.95/month?"

Symbian Mobile Phones

J Tillotson Technology/Mobile 2008-02-29

A phone using the Symbian operating system is able to integrate several software applications at once, such as word processors, internet browser and email. The first phone on the Symbian OS was the Nokia 9210. It was launched in 2000 and was a fairly ordinary-looking handset with the old style black-on-green screen and simple keypad...at first glance.

Opening it up revealed a full QWERTY keyboard and colour screen, almost like a mini laptop. It could be used to send emails, browse the internet and it featured a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation viewer and file/contents manager. All this from a fairly basic-looking handset.

Since the 9210 the Symbian OS has appeared on several new handsets, with more and more software being developed to make use of them. A regular feature on the Symbian OS is the ability to send and receive emails as well as access instant messaging, full internet access and even hook the handset up to your TV.

Nokia seems to have cornered the market in Britain when it comes to Symbian phones, with handsets in all shapes and sizes from clamshells to sliders to PDA's. There's even a handset which looks like a small camcorder; the Nokia N93i is capable of video capture of DVD quality, as well as mobile TV software to turn it into a portable television.

But Nokia are by no means the only manufacturer to jump on the Symbian bandwagon. Ericsson, LG, Samsung and Motorola all have handsets carrying this technology too. The Motorola Z8 also carries yet another new feature; a 'kick-slider'. This means that when the phone slides up, it forms a curve which fits the shape of your face letter than a standard handset would. Not exactly a feat of modern technology, but sometimes the simplest things are the best.

While Symbian phones are the top end of the technology spectrum at the moment, they're still reasonably priced. Some are even available on a pay as you go tariff, for those who don't want to be tied to a monthly package. Look on the internet and mobile phone retailers for the best deals.

Cellular Phones vs. PCs Phones

Eric Morgan Computer/Computer 2007-12-21

Most people are unaware of any discrepancy between the terms cellular and PCS. PCS services have cropped up however, in order to offer a viable alternative to cellular phone plans. While both are providers of mobile communication, there are some slight differences between the two. PCS stands for Personal Communications Services, which is essentially the trademark for the difference between the two. PCS boasts its ability to cater its services to meet the needs of the client. PCS is defined as a combination of services like paging, caller ID and e-mail. PCS has an emphasis on personal service and extended mobility, often used in place of digital cellular .

A cell, used for communication between such named cell phones, is described as such: Cell: The basic geographic unit of a cellular system and the basis for the generic industry term cellular . A city or county is divided into small cells , each of which is equipped with a low-powered radio transmitter/receiver. The cells can vary in size depending on terrain and capacity demands. By controlling the transmission power and the radio frequencies assigned from one cell to another, a computer at the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) monitors the movement and transfers (or hands off) the phone call to another cell and another radio frequency as needed.

While PCS boasts a more extended mobility than that of cell phones, it essentially is a phone service with additional features such as caller id and paging, with more comprehensive customer care. Another central difference between the two is the wavelengths on which they operate. Cellular wavelengths operate in the 824 MHz (megahertz) to the 894 MHz ranges, while PCS runs on the 1850 MHz to 1990 MHz ranges. In addition, because of the wavelengths on which PCS travels it doesn t cover a network as extensive as those covered by cell phones. PCS phones also work under digital technology, whereas cellular phones employ both digital and analog. Initially PCS phones were typically more expensive to purchase, but offered lower rates than competing cell phone plans. Currently, PCS phone plans are competitive in price with standard cell phone plans. A typical PCS cell phone plan starts at about $29.99/per month for 300 minutes ranging to upwards of $109.99 for a family plan with 2100 minutes.

As with any mobile calling plan, cellular or PCS, it is critical to determine your individual needs prior to deciding on a plan and purchasing a phone. Mobile phone plans are varied whether they are cellular or PCS, and one may suit your needs better than the other.

Everything evolves, becomes more complex and better quality (we hope). Look at the TV for example, first there were radios (sound only), then black and white, then color, then remote controls, then cable, then digital, and now High Definition TV s. The same principal is true with wireless, portable, phone service. We started with Cellular, which was originally geared at being available for people on the go, in their cars, away from their homes and offices. Then slowly, as the coverage areas grew, cellular coverage became almost absolute. Cell phones have now replaced the landline phone in many households. However, cell phones, on a cellular network, have just about hit a brick wall so in walks the PCS! PCS, Personal Communications Services, is the new wave, the upgrade, of Cellular phone service.

PCS is a complex mixture of digital, wireless technology linked with messaging and internet at its base, not as additions to the service like Cellular. The whole process that PCS utilizes is shown, at its best and simplest, basically, in the children s movie Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when he is explaining Wonka-vision to Mike Teavee. Now, with that assisting in the explanation, PCS utilizes digital technology, not cellular. It takes small pieces of the conversation or message and then breaks them into smaller pieces and sends those pieces out in random spurts of information that is collected by the PCS and put back together. This process makes the data more secure and harder to intercept than the continuous flows of information sent as in Cellular service. Another plus to PCS service is the speed. It is over twice as fast as basic analog Cellular service, this increased speed means that data such as text messages, emails, downloads, caller ID, and even voice calls will be faster.

All of this sounds great when comparing Cellular and PCS services; However, one of the drawbacks is that there are three different types of PCS services competing with one another. Unlike Cellular service where you can link up to any tower that is near you and have the airtime sent back to your carrier, if you are registered with one service, and you travel into another service area, you will not have service. There may be partnerships and mergers of technologies and creating compatible systems in the future, but as of now, this is a large concern when thinking about PCS service. The three major competing services now are Global System for Mobile Communication, Time Division Multiple Access, and Code Division Multiple Access. Another problem with PCS versus Cellular service is that the technology is still fairly new, making it not was widespread, and thus, reliable as traditional cell phones.

Every new technology has some hitches and bumps in the beginning, but slowly they get ironed out and the product with the best coverage, quality, and durability will surely win out. Some are placing bets on traditional Cellular service, others on PCS. But either way, the improvements to both will benefit us all.

O2 Mobile Phones
While O2 may be known in other countries as a large mobile phone brand, it is known in the United Kingdom as one of the biggest mobile phone network services providers. The O2 that UK residents know today is a subsidiary of the Spanish-based Telefonica S.A. It has a long history in the telecommunications business, having been formed in 2001 after BT Wireless broke away from under the bigger British Telecom.
O2 in UK
O2 is one of the largest mobile phone network providers in the UK with over 16.3 million subscribers (as of March 2006) and more than 9,000 employees. They have both GSM and 3G coverage all over the United Kingdom, particularly in and around London.
Aside from offering GSM and 3G services, O2 also boasts lower monthly phone fees, a straightforward, no contract monthly plan and cheaper roaming rates. O2 has also been able to capture several niche markets, including those who want more than Pay as You Go services but don’t want contracts, as well as subscribers who frequently travel around the European Union. O2 also has comprehensive content download and data services, including their music download service which they launched in 2004.
O2? Oh Yes!
Something you’ll definitely love about O2 is that they have service plan pricing that’s so straightforward. When you try choosing one of their monthly service plans (they call them Tariffs), you get to choose how long you want to stay in a contract with them, whether it’s 12, 18 or 24 months. The details are all there, including the monthly service fee, the amount of monthly minutes and monthly texts included in the package and the respective unlimited benefits, whether it’s unlimited calls or unlimited texts. Once you’ve picked out a service plan, you get to choose your free mobile phone and what extras you’d like to go with it – very simple.
O2 also offers a very unique kind of service plan. For subscribers who 1) don’t want a new mobile phone with their plan, 2) want to be able to terminate plan when they want to do so and 3) want a lower monthly fee, O2 is offering Simplicity. O2 also has something for those who are too busy to visit the O2 store. O2 has Online Pay Monthly and phones/payg/1/pay-as-you-go/ target=_blank>Pay as You Go Tariffs for people who wish to subscribe to O2’s mobile services through the internet.
