Auto Paint

For the last few years the auto world has mainly focused on electronics and other technical areas. But now its paint technology, auto paint technology is changing fast at various levels. Automotive paint becomes significant when it comes to protecting the metal from the cruelties of nature. Whether it is, rain, sun or snow, the paint is expected to perform its job well, not asking for much attention. Not only protecting the metal from external enemies, auto paint also plays a major role in making the automobile attractive. It enhances the elegance and personality of the vehicle. More and more technical developments are carried on at different levels to extend the service life and quality of automobiles. Technical advancements over the last few years have resulted in auto paints with impressive durability, and the ability to retain that “new look” for years.

Paints are an excellent example of rust prevention products and corrosion inhibitors. Auto paints are industrial coatings that are known more for their protective properties, rather than aesthetic ones. These paints consist of several layers, each with a different job to do. While car rust prevention is their main aim, they carry out rust repair also. Automobile manufacturers commonly use zinc phosphate coatings because it provides a very tough barrier against rust, especially in harsh climates. These days more and more automakers prefer water thin able paints that are applied electrostatically. Like auto paints, concrete coatings are used for the protection of reinforce concrete materials.

With an increase in competition in this field, auto companies are trying hard to come up with a new range of paint systems. BASF of Germany has developed an automotive finish that focuses on eco-efficient waterborne base coats and high solid paints. Using this system it is possible to compile all the legal solvent reduction requirements. Another company - Daimler Chrysler has developed a new type of lacquer that is expected to be more scratch resistant than conventional paints. The lacquer contains minute ceramic particles that form a barrier against the ravages of mechanical car wash equipment, along with offering car rust prevention.

In recent years, current automobile finishing processes have advanced to a level that not only offers efficient rust prevention but also meets the environmental norms. To know more about paint technology and the latest range of auto paints visit www.rustbullet.com. Rust Bullet also provides you with suggestions regarding the selection of good quality, eco friendly paint for your vehicle.

Car Paint

Rust or Iron oxide (Fe2O3,) is a frequently occurring problem in todayâ€TMs world. This oxidation process is so common that iron in its pure form is a rare occurrence as iron readily combines with oxygen in presence of water. Rust leaves its ugly stain on all sorts of metal objects and our precious cars are no exception. Therefore, to protect your car from the ravages of rust you must follow some effective car rust prevention techniques.

A Car is more susceptible to rust because it bears the brunt of nature and is exposed to the elements of nature such as rain, snow etc. The vehicles in coastal areas suffer the additional problem of salt along with areas that have heavy snowfall where the roads have been salt. In all these conditions, the chances of the appearance of rust are very high due to the fact that all these conditions are contributing to the formation of rust.

Tips for rust prevention

• Your car should be clean and have an under coating of rust protectant on the surface, always.
• The tires and wheels should have no moisture holding material such as leaves, grass etc.
• Rinse the underside of the car to remove any salt to avoid rust formation.
• The drainage holes of the car should be clear to allow the moisture to get out.
• Rustproof your car with the help of car rust prevention products.
Rust Bullet offers a premium car rust removal product that also acts as car paint. You can use this car paint and the paint keeps your car rust free for as long as ten years. External Paint

We have all seen them dotted around South Africa, especially in small quaint suburbs that have a lot of history or attract people of the creative orientation. Townhouses, duplexes and cottages lined up in a row along the street, each painted in its own particular colour scheme, according to the owner’s preference. It’s these houses that separate that particular street or suburb from the rest of its neighbours. In general people have a tendency to just stick to neutral, safe colours for their houses such as beige, white and off white colour schemes. Occasionally you might find one house in these plain suburbs with a touch of one other colour on the accents of their house, but the basic idea is to keep everything simple. Whether it’s because they are scared their property might not be as easy to sell if it only suits a particular group of people, or whether it’s because making their house stick out from the rest of the crowd is too daunting to contemplate, is uncertain. However, colourful houses do exist and the amount of people that are flocking to the suburbs is growing by the day. Some historic neighbourhoods in South Africa have colourful houses due to the fact that in the 1900’s technology advanced to the point where many colours of paint could be made and people took advantage of it. In Cape Town, houses in Woodstock, Oranjezicht, Tambourskloof and Observatory all share at least one magical lane of multi-coloured homes, and it’s these suburbs that have the largest population of alternative families, artistic individuals and out-the box thinkers. It’s the colour that draws people to buy the house. Exterior visuals play a large part when the house is on show. It’s literally one of those “love at first sight” scenarios. When you paint your house a particular colour on the exterior you are revealing yourself to the world and people respond. Estate Agent Andre Bottger says that colour is definitely a contributing factor in the property transaction. External colour is the first thing people see and first impressions do count. He says that in his opinion most South Africans are conservative when it comes to exterior house colour. Estate Agent Arnie Berman says the opposite, in that he generally finds that if the exterior of a house is in colour it has a positive effect on the sales. Each colour brings its own territory of emotions and atmospheres and while the garden, fencing and structure do add to the ultimate end result, the base colour is the true origin of the over-all theme and feel. This is probably why certain colours work better when it comes to the sale of a house. Each culture has its own philosophy about what a colour of the rainbow brings to the table of tastes and emotions, but the theme of the house should also be examined when choosing. While your favourite colour might be purple and green, that doesn’t necessarily suit an old Victorian styled house. Recently earthy colours such as burnt orange and desert yellow have become quite popular in neighbourhoods that previously had reputations of clean white walls and picket fences. If you look at the psychological symbolism behind these two colours in comparison to global issues and where South African is today, it’s not really a surprise that people feel more comfortable coming home to these shades. Orange is a mix between red and yellow and therefore it’s meaning is a balance between the two. Generally its association shares the same as red, although due to the yellow added, it doesn’t share the intensity. So while red is hot, orange would be warm. It’s the colour of comfort, cheer and activity. Yellow, which is the more popular of the two, is the colour of hope, communication and optimism. Purple is more specific, as it usually deals with the spirituality of a person, which is why it only attracts certain people. Purple also refers to the mental state of a person. Turquoise is a popular colour for trimmings on a house and this colour has to do with inspiration and calmness, which is why a lot of people use it. When you paint your house a particular colour it might not be approved of by everyone or attract everyone either, but the fact is that when it does, that person will love it for its colour, just the same as you do.

Paint Vs. Wallpaper

This is a question that millions of people from all over the world puzzle over every year. And the strangest things is, even though they have decided on it, several days, weeks, months or years from then, they would probably ask themselves the same question again, “Which is better, paint of wallpaper?'

Deciding between wallpaper and paint can be a very tricky thing to do because both option offer different advantages and disadvantages that we all have to take into consideration first before choosing between them. So, here's a list of paint pros and cons as well as the pros and cons of using wallpaper which hopefully, would make choosing what to use on your wall easier for you.

Wallpaper Pros

Wall paper offers a wide variety of patterns, textures and colors -- There are hundreds, nay, thousands of patterns, colors and textures that wallpaper can offer. From polka dots, plaid, florals, geometric shapes and even landscapes, all these designs and more can easily be had with wallpaper. Plus, textured wallpaper can add more oomph to your walls which paints cannot offer. Some new wallpapers even have beading, sequins, lace and ribbons that add more drama and style to a bare wall.

Wallpaper is an easy and affordable way to hide imperfections and create illusions – If you have an unsightly concrete wall in you living room, you can easily hide it by just cover it up with wallpaper. Not only is this convenient but it can also be cheap because you don't need to spend a lot on priming and smoothing out the wall since the wallpaper can cover it up anyway. You can make a surface look like wood, bricks, metal or straw simply with wallpaper. Making a black concrete wall look like wood using paint only can be quite a challenging feat that only an expensive professional painter can pull-off.

Wallpaper Cons

Wallpaper is hard to clean and maintain – Once your lavish wallpaper is up on the walls, the main problem you would encounter is keeping dirt off it and removing it. Yes, most wallpapers easily stain and those that are stain proof can cost quite a lot. Kids armed with crayons and chocolate-covered fingers and wallpaper most definitely do not go well together.

Wallpaper can easily fade when exposed to sunlight – Yes, most wallpapers out there can easily fade and loose their colors over time. And they also fade quicker when exposed to sunlight and wind. So a room with a wide veranda, balcony or large windows might not be suited to use wallpapers on the walls.

Paint Pros

Paint is a low maintenance, cheap and easy-to-apply interior treatment – Having painted walls means that you need not be so worried about maintaining and cleaning your walls. Most kinds of dirt and stains can easily be cleaned of a painted wall or when the stain does not come off completely, you can easily paint that area in the wall the same color to cover up the stain. While cover up stains and fixing unsightly marks on wallpaper can be quite difficult and expensive since you might have to remove one entire panel of wallpaper and replace it just because of a small stain.

Paint can last several years – Because painted walls are easier to maintain, they also tend to last longer than wallpaper. The colors of paint would also take a long, long time before they show signs of fading and peeling even when constantly exposed to sunlight and wind. They also last longer than wallpaper in humid and moist conditions.

Paint Cons

Paint does not offer much texture and designs – Unlike wallpaper which can instantly create illusions, designs and texture where there are none, using paint to achieve the same effect would be difficult. If you want walls with flower designs without using wallpaper, you have to paint the flowers yourself which would take a lot of time and effort. You can also use stencils to paint designs although these designs would not be as detailed and flawless as those in wallpapers.

Exterior Paint Problems

Peeling Paint

Another common symptom of a failed paint coat is when the paint peels off from the surface. The paint may commonly appear to curl and flake from the work surface for a number of reasons. Most commonly, the peeling occurs because of poor paint adhesion, due to improper prep work or lack of primer.

Before any new paint is applied to the exterior of your home, the surface must have the necessary “roughness” for the paint to grip to. Sanding and/or applying a layer of primer is sufficient to provide this “roughness.”

Efflorescence

This condition most commonly occurs on painted masonry surfaces, such as brick or concrete. Efflorescence appears as crusty white salt deposits emerging through the paint film. This situation transpires when salts in the brick or concrete become dissolved with water, and then attach to the surface as the water evaporates.

Some common causes of paint efflorescence include moisture emanating from indoors, inadequately waterproofed below-ground walls, and poor surface preparation. If basement walls are not adequately waterproofed, ground water may penetrate the paint and induce efflorescence. Cracks in walls and other water damage are also common causes. If the concrete or mortar was not entirely cured and dried out when the paint was applied, or if prior efflorescence was not entirely removed before the last paint job, the condition may materialize.

Mildew/Mold

Another common symptom of failed paint is the appearance of mildew and mold. Mildew is easily recognized as dark green, brown, or black splotches on the paint surface, and is usually found in damp, shaded areas. Mildew is actually a living fungus which feeds and grows on paint film.

Mold spores can float through the air and form new colonies where they land. Mold and mildew have been found to cause several health problems, such as chronic fatigue, sinus problems, respiration problems, sleep difficulty, and an impaired immune system.

Mildew and mold is most commonly caused by heavy moisture, poor ventilation, and lack of sunlight. A combination of these conditions will provide an ideal habitat for mold and mildew to thrive and grow. Some of the most common areas on the exterior of your home where mildew may grow include the underside of soffits, eaves, and similar shaded areas.

Chalking

Paint chalking occurs as a formation of fine powder on the surface of the paint film. Chalking paint will rub off of the surface and get on to skin, clothing, etc. Chalking paint can also have a fading effect on the paint coat. Chalking is actually a natural cleanses process of paint, however, excessive film erosion can result in heavy chalking.

This problem is typically caused by the use of a poor quality paint, or the use of an interior paint on the exterior of the building. Before applying a new coat of paint, be sure to fully remove any excess chalk from the surface. Primer may also be needed. Budda Oliver is a marketing agent for N. Chasen and Son. I love paint. There are so many kinds of paint and there are so many fun and important uses of paint. Our lives and most especially our homes would be very different without it.

Can you imagine a world, or even just your bedroom, without any paint on the walls? Imagine that all our walls were plain cement or wood. No colors and nothing to make them unique or standout from the rest. Having paint for walls and to decorate has made life easier and more beautiful. People are able to be creative and to use paint to make their homes reflect their personalities. Look around your house and see if there is a room or two that might benefit from a fresh coat of paint. You will be surprised at how different your living area can become when you simply add a little new paint.

Or think of all of the beautiful artwork that you see in homes, offices, galleries, and churches. The world would be a lot plainer without the paintings of talented artists, and we all know it takes paint to make a great painting. Have you ever wanted to try your hand at learning to paint? Now is the time. Go to your local craft store and pick out a small canvas and a few paints and go to town. Recreate an image you have seen before or imagine your own scene and paint it. Allow trying to paint to be a relaxing and fun way to spend time.

Have you ever noticed a refrigerator filled with the artwork of children? Parents love to display the creativity of their kids. Often these masterpieces took shape with paint. Allowing your children to play around with paint can be a great way to instill in your kids the value of creativity and of enjoying learning how to do something new. So grab some kid friendly paint and see what your kids come up with. Invite their friends over and making learning to paint a fun group activity. Incorporate artistic activities at birthday parties or other social events you hold for your children. They can have fun and learn at the same time.

Paint is great whether you are picking out a new color to update a room in need of remodeling or you are attempting to keep the kids entertained for a few afternoon hours. People of all ages will love to decorate and redecorate the finest homes and the oldest refrigerators using nothing but a little paint.

HVLP Spray Paint Guns

Vehicles/automotive 2008-05-04
View Detail
HVLP stands for high-volume, low pressure. They are more efficient and cause less over spray than standard spray paint guns. If you do a lot of spray finishing, an HVLP spray paint gun can save you money over the long run because you will use less paint. You can use your shop air compressor's powerful air output to run a spray paint gun. A trigger operated spray paint gun takes paint or finish and mixes it with high pressure air. The paint is atomized and sprayed out in a cone shape to produce a neat and controllable pattern. An experienced painter can produce very nice finishes smoothly and with a professional look. HVLP spray guns are widely used in automotive shops to produce factory quality finishes. Most HVLP spray paint guns allow you to change out nozzles for different types of finishes. Examples are lacquer, stains, paint and varnishes. However, thick latex paints are not advisable. (You can't use your HVLP spray paint gun to paint the house.) Most spray guns have a 1 quart cup that attaches below the nozzle and others have a top mounted cup. These are referred to as gravity feed spray paint guns. HVLP spray paint guns require large amounts of air to operate for continuous spraying. The paint gun manufacturer should tell you in the specs how much air is required to operate their gun.

One important thing to be aware of is that HVLP sprayers cause lots of over spray and will make a mess. It is very important to wear paint coveralls, breathing protection and eye protection. Also, masking and wheel covers are important to protect the car you are painting. HVLP spray paint guns are not precision instruments. It is more like a shot gun approach to painting. They are very good at applying a professional finish but they also blow paint everywhere. Body protection is very important when using HVLP sprayers. You can get away with minimal protection when painting a room in your house, but with these tools you need to make sure your whole body is well covered before you begin spraying. Because they out so much and in such fine mist, breathing protection is absolutely mandatory. Tiny droplets of paint will be suspended in the air and you will inhale them without a respirator mask on.

Killer Paint Job

Branden Schroeder Health Fitness/Health Fitness 2007-11-24
View Detail

You know the smell of new paint, the one that gives you a slight headache? That's the smell of the paint releasing toxin-containing fumes which may be harmful to you and your family. For those with chemical sensitivities and allergies, these hidden pollutants can make life extremely difficult, and they aren't good for the rest of us. The EPA estimates over 10,000 Americans are killed annually by indoor air pollution, and one source of this pollution are the toxic VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that are released from new building materials, paints and other finishes as they "off-gas". In addition to respiratory and eye irritation, headaches and muscle weakness, VOCs have been linked to serious conditions like liver disease and lung cancer. Studies have found that when paint is drying, indoor air can contain VOCs at levels up to 1,000 times that of outdoor air.

How can you reduce your family's exposure to these chemicals? Well, the good news is that, as the links between health effects and air quality have become better understood, environmental regulations have gotten stricter. And with consumers becoming more aware of the health issues, the demand for less toxic paints has gown. Today almost every paint manufacturer offers at least one variety of non-VOC paint.

VOCs are measured in grams per liter (g/L). While standards vary somewhat, national regulations limit VOC content of flat paint to 250 g/l and non-flat to 380 g/l. Although it's almost impossible to make a completely toxin and VOC free paint, it's not hard to find safer alternative: "No VOC" paint is typically considered anything less than 5g/L. "Low VOC" paint is anything less than 50g/L. Keep in mind that adding color can increase the VOC levels.

The cost of low and no-VOC paints is usually around the same as a manufacturer's premium paint line. There are many benefits to choosing these paints – they are effective and long lasting, have reduced toxins and fumes (low odor and no off-gassing means higher indoor air quality), and they have environmental advantages as well. Using low and no-VOC paint reduces groundwater pollutants and ozone depleting contaminants. They can be easily disposed of because they aren't considered hazardous waste, and, being water-based, they clean up easily with soap and water.

So save yourself a headache and so much more – give your home a paint job that's safer for your family and the earth. Your lungs will thank you.

Paint Your Investment

It’s amazing how much a coat of paint will help make your home more unique to your individual tastes. If your trying to sell your home a nice neutral color can really make a huge difference for prospective buyer’s who are looking at your property. Before you commit to 5 or 10 gallons of paint, always try samples because they never are the exact color as the card. Also buy a roller with 3/8 inch Nap, also buy a GOOD handle (stick, like on a broom), don't buy the 3 dollar wooden one it will break in less than an hour. You can roll much faster with a longer handle, and if you are going to roll the ceiling it helps alot, but don't stand under where you’re painting you will get paint in your face. If you’re rolling the ceiling roll a foot or so in front of where you’re standing. They also make these awesome tools for cutting in on the where the wall meets the ceiling. You can buy little square tools with paint pads on them, most have 2 wheels that roll on the ceiling. If you buy the one with wheels, make sure not to get the wheels wet, and buy extra pads. Change the pads as often as you need to, you also might want to take the pad off and wash the plastic piece every hour or so. Paint will start to seep into where the pad and the plastic holding device slide together. It tends to make a mess.. These tools will be next to the paint brushes. Also buy a GOOD brush, don't buy the cheapo brushes because the brush hairs will fall out and get caught in your paint. Tape off anything you don't want to get paint on, unless you feel comfortable painting around it with either the cut in tools, or a paint brush. I always use large drop cloths that are a cloth material. The plastic tends to be a huge pain, but it's a lot cheaper. If you use the drop cloths just buy 1 or 2 and move them around as your painting, I would use plastic tarps to cover any furniture. Use regular latex paint for inside your home, don’t buy the cheapest paint in the store, you will just have to put on multiple coats. Better paint tends to cover in one or two coats, where cheap paints can take up to 4 or 5. If you are covering dark colored walls always use a primer first, and give it a good coat of primer. In high traffic areas use satin paint (kitchen, bath). In low traffic areas use an eggshell or flat. Flat paint will not have any sheen or glossy look to it, eggshell will have a slight gloss, but barely visible, and satin will have a slight gloss to it. If you can't find the "cut in tools” Just ask someone in your local hardware store for a tool that helps you cut in. If you get good with the tool you won't need to tape off any trim. You shouldn't need to tape off the ceiling at all. If you do get paint on the ceiling just wipe it off with a wet towel. You may have to scrub it a little but wipe it off immediately because the quicker you wipe it the better chance you have of it all coming off. You will need a step ladder also. It will help, a 6 footer is fine for a one story house, in a two story home you may have area where you will need an extension ladder. If you do not own one of these you can rent one fairly inexpensively. Painting is much easier than it seems, it just takes some careful planning and patience. Never rush painting or you may end up making a huge mess. Take your time and do it right the first time!

Paint A Panel

Eric J. Slarkowski Home Improvement/home improvement 2007-04-11

If you aren't satisfied with the wood paneling in your house then you might want to think of a home improvement option to help you out. It can be pricey to replace each panel, but you can find a solution to live in a house that isn't marred by ugly paneling. Here are some ideas about how you can make the wood paneling look better. It might take some hard work, but it will be worth it compared to dealing with wood paneling in your house.

One option is to paint over the paneling. You just need to remember that if you want it to look professional you can't just throw some paint up on the wall. You need to make sure that prepare the surface properly to get the right look that you want. You'll need to clean the wall well and degrease it for all the years that things have built up on your paneling. You'll want to put a gloss remover on large parts of and make sure to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Let it stay on for about 30 then lay down a coat of primer. Don't try to take off the gloss remover, this stays on and helps with the final effect. If you can still see wood through the primer then you need another coat. IF you don't' you will still see the wood through your paint and you will have wasted a lot of time with the whole project. You'll need to let your primer dry over night and then you can lay down the caulk in the grooves that separate the paneling. After this you can paint your first coat of paint. Make sure you let the first coat dry enough before you lay down another coat.

Another option is putting down wallpaper that you can paint. You can find this in a nice wallpaper store. It makes your wall look painted, but can be a lot easier than painting directly on the wood. You'll need to clean the wall with a degreaser and allow it to dry. Then you'll need to put caulk in the space between the panels. You then can apply the primer to get the wall ready. You can then put up the sticky layer followed by the paper. The paper should soak for a few minutes in water and then it will be ready to go up. You can paint it with one color or more than one! Read the instructions carefully before you do this so you make sure you do a good job. You want to get that really pro finish on your wood paneled wall and you can make sure this happens by taking your time with the job. You don't want to rush through it, so make sure you follow all directions word for word.

How To Paint

Daniel Kretschmer Self Improvement/advice 2008-02-03
View Detail
I wrote this post as a prelude to a series of posts in the near future set out to help beginner painters, wannabe artists, and anybody else interested learn how to paint. I will include every "how to" paint resource I can get my hands on, so even if don't take away any of my advice at the very least you should find somewhere else that can help. I know I'm not the best painter but I will share with you everything I know about painting from A to Z, and if that's not enough you can use the links I'll provide. The purpose is to help you, I'm not trying to sell anything. My advice is absolutely free. So take it or leave it!

First let's look at why people paint. Why should you get started? People paint for a variety of different reasons.

* They might do it as a hobby, "Sunday painters" if you will.

* Some do it to let off steam. It is very therapeutic, the process of painting itself and the satisfaction you get from it.

* That leads to people doing it for something they can be proud of. When they feel they've accomplished something they can actually put it up on their walls for everybody to see.

* People paint for a couple extra bucks. There are plenty of people that can make a few dollars at fairs or flea markets, or on busy city streets with their artwork. There is a market for this, because not everybody who wants artwork can afford the stuff found at galleries.

* People paint for a living. Painting as a profession will never die. Even with all these technological breakthroughs, people still want good oil paintings hanging in their living room. People still want their portraits painted in genuine paint. Granted it takes a lot of skill to be able to reach this level.

* Some do it hoping to achieve greatness, with aspirations to be like the masters and to emulate them. A true artist rarely comes along in history. Could it be you?

Whatever the reason for painting, I highly recommend it. Most people come up to me and say they can't paint, nor ever will be able to, and I think this is just hogwash. Some people just don't feel like ever trying, and I understand this is not everyone's cup of tea. To each his own.

You never know until you try. Most creative ventures are never begun because of an underlying fear. I'm guilty of this one myself and it's what keeps me from pumping out canvas after canvas. I don't want to fail, I don't want to waste my time if it turns out bad, and I'd rather not find out the hard way that I'm not as good as I think in my head. But it's this type of thinking that prevents some of the greatest artwork ever from being created. I may be no Leonardo, but I know I can do my best, and I know sitting around worrying about it accomplishes zilch. So I get around my fear.

The good thing about the would be amateur is the wealth of information available. With the internet, there are infinite resources at your fingertips, especially for the "How to Paint" tutorials. Each book or article is written by a different artist with different views and styles, no two are exactly alike.

What I intend to accomplish here is to provide a step by step tutorial on how I paint, and how you can too. Like I said I'm no expert, but maybe we could learn together. Each post will be a different chapter, which will include topics such as "Materials," "Composition and Subject Matter," "Techniques," and plenty more. I intend to show plenty of pictures as we go, and maybe even a couple videos.

All of us have different backgrounds and maybe some of you have gone to art classes and art school and whatnot. I myself went to one drawing class when I was 11. It was comparable to my ninth grade art class, and didn't really teach much (or rather I didn't learn much). So most of my learning has been by doing and developing as I went. There is no better advice than to actually do it. Painting is not learned by reading a book alone.

Although there have a good deal of decent art books that I've read rich with information. The best art book I've read by far is Rudolph Arnheim's "Art and Visual Perception." It's not light reading and I didn't finish it in a day, but the point is to absorb the info on the pages, not just to race through it. This is the kind of book that I've gone back numerous times to reread passages, and I always end up learning something new every time. "Art and Visual Perception" is a great book that's half psychology, half art book about how people see things, look at things, and understand them, and how this relates to art. I'm sure Arnheim could sum it up better, so you can take it from him. I wouldn't recommend it to just anybody, but it is a must read for any serious painter.

There's also a number of good television shows about painting that you can always find on public television in the afternoon. I think we all know and love Bob Ross. When I was first starting out painting years ago my parents bought one of the Bob Ross painting kits. It was great, it came with everything you need: palette, brushes, about 10 tubes of paint, painting knives, a book and a VHS, even a small canvas I think. You can't develop creativity from tutorials like this, having to copy exactly what you see, but it's great practice. I still use Bob Ross techniques for painting pine trees and reflections in water.

So all kinds of methods can be used to learn how to paint. I recommend hitting up the arts and crafts shop and buying one of those starter paint kits. If you're brand new at it, I would start with acrylics, being easier to use, and you can wash the brushes in water instead of turpentine. Or you could get some oil paints, they're generally a little more expensive. You can get some small canvas boards for cheap, just for practice mainly, or you could get the larger stretched canvases. I use Fredrix medium tooth, red label canvases.

But whatever you do, just do it. Fail at first, it only teaches you. But have fun with it, and have with this tutorial. Stay tuned for upcoming posts, on "How to Paint."

Until then...

Paint in Spain – Types of paint

I imagine that many people including myself only think about the planned or suggested colour for any decorating project when it is getting near the time that they actually wish to purchase paint. However it is just as important to decide which type of paint should be used and for which surface etc and the final finish that is required needs to be carefully considered.

I will attempt to set out some of the various options that are available and usually work well in most average settings.

Various Types of Paint:

The terms used in paint Latex and oil base are often used rather loosely. When a painter specifies a gallon of a certain brand of latex, he may in reality often be getting non-latex or an artificial-latex water based paint. The explanation here is that there are continuously new products being developed using synthetic materials that perform more or less identical to latex. Naturally many of these paints still carry "latex" on their label. Where a paint or stain product is referred to "acrylic" or "water based", it usually has the same properties similar as that of latex paint, even if it does not include the term latex pain on the can. Similarly when you ask for an oil-based paint you may get the similar alkyd. In this article I have used the term "latex" to also include other similar water-based paints, and the term "oil-base" to include alkyd.

Effects of varying degrees of Gloss High gloss, semi gloss, eggshell, satin, low sheen and flat, these are all very general terms, and it can often be noticed that as one moves from one brand of paint to another or perhaps from one type of paint to another the gloss factor will change. A very good example of this is that with many paint companies you will find that their interior oil based semi gloss appears to be quite a lot glossier than their interior latex semi gloss. In addition a satin oil finish from one company may look to have the same shine factor as perhaps semi gloss oil from another paint manufacturer. Obviously it is important to choose the correct gloss and in many ways this is just as important as selecting the right choice of colour.

A shining surface sends out a much different effect than a non-shinny surface and so the degree of gloss will most certainly influence the final outcome of the entire project.

Car Paint Protection in Bendigo

Noel Clarke.. Vehicles/Cars 2007-07-24

What is auto paint protection, or car paint protection ? This is the term given to the process of applying a protective coating or sealant to the paint on your car. Automotive paint protection comes in many forms, some are very good, and some are an expensive waste of time.

Generally speaking, the better forms of paint protection available, contain liquid glass, or Glassplexin. These silicate based products offer the following benefits when professionally applied. 1) Seals your paintwork against dirt, salt and grime. 2) Results in a super smooth surface, making you car easier to clean. 3) Protects the paint from fading. 4) Protects against corrosion. 5) Removes imperfections, such as scratches, orange peel and swirl marks. 6) Gives your car the ultimate mirror shine. 7) Results in an increase of your cars resale value.

Simply put, after your vehicle has been professionally treated with a quality paint protection product, preferably one which contains Glassplexin, you will find that your car is shinier, easier to clean, does not require polishing, and will basically stay looking like new for far longer than an untreated vehicle.

Glassplexin based paint protection products, are not restricted to cars. Professional applicators have had fantastic results on boats, planes and even on the radar dishes aboard ships.

Something to keep in mind when considering getting automotive paint protection, is that not all car paint protection systems are equal. Beware of the numerous expensive but ineffectual products on offer. A top quality car paint protection product professionally applied will result in your motor car looking like new for years to come.

Purchasing The Perfect Paint

Jim Brown Home Improvement/home improvement 2008-04-02

An appropriately applied paint transforms the look of a piece of furniture or a room. No matter how plain, their outward appearance undergoes a notable transformation when paints coat them.

To the wiser, however, the final results can be even lovelier when considerations are taken way ahead of time. Selecting the right paint or color coat for the job definitely doesn't start and end with shades that are "nice to look at."

The first step is to make sure that good lighting is a given in your area of painting. Cover or remove all flooring and furniture, patch, fills, cracks and sand holes on the surface. Clean thoroughly and carefully all the surfaces to be painted. Plug covers, switches and other electrical materials should be removed. Take measurements of your room size, and count the windows and doors to determine the quantity of paint that you will need.

Indeed, it is utterly frustrating to spend your precious effort and time applying paint to something which has an underneath surface that is tattered with various imperfections. Neither is it clever to spend several hours painting and then spend as much number of hours or even more cleaning up.

There are several paints available that you can choose from, all of these guaranteeing superior results. An initial yet critical step is to select the correct paint for exterior and interior surfaces. Interior paint is quicker in drying, while the exterior paint dries at a slower pace. Interior paints also have "less offensive" smell than exterior paints do.

According to experts, finishes of an interior paint can be classified into five types. The gloss paint fits on areas that need to be cleaned frequently. These include bath walls and cabinets, and the kitchen. Meanwhile, the paint known as semi-gloss shines less, but is famed for its durability. There is also a satin paint that is of a distinctively low shine, but is much easier to clean. The eggshell kind of paint is suitable for walls of living room, bedroom and family room. The eggshell paint lets out a glossy effect that is barely discernable. The last kind is the flat paint that is almost not of reflective quality, hence is perfect for ceilings and walls that have certain surface irregularities.

It is also significant to find color swatches that look good in lights, either night or day. Remember that the ideal blue can in fact be awkward and look unfit in a room when your lamps are turned on. To avoid ending up with the wrong shades, find the one that suits for the most time that you will be in your room. So if you are out working for the most part and home only during the evenings, choose the shade that best suits in artificial or electric light.

Mostly, cans of paint offer information regarding the paint's expected coverage under usual circumstances. Under-buying is not recommended since you are sure to put in some touch-ups after the main paint work.

With these considerations at hand, you may already check home centers or paint stores. Choose chips of paint color that are sure to coordinate with what you like. It will also be helpful for you to talk with a salesperson about your project. Gather as much suggestions, tips and opinions as you can for the proper gloss level and the most suitable product for your paint job.

A good Paint Job

Although it is hard to notice the surfaces of your home accumulate dirt, fingerprints and a variety of stains and contamination. If you want to achieve the best look for the interior of your home it is essential that you follow the advice below to get the best possible look and feel from your interior paint job.

Before you even open the tin of paint there are steps that need to be taken to get your paint job off to the best start. It is essential that you clean the area by scrubbing the walls with detergent and water and using a stiff wire brush to do so. You should then rinse the area and allow it to dry thoroughly before priming your walls.

It is also extremely important that you choose good quality tools to perform your paint job. It is highly important that you have the following materials:

• Broom • Brush • Bucket • Cloths • Dust sheets • Ventilation (window or fan) • Ladder or step

Once you have cleaned your walls and gathered all the necessary materials you can start to paint but before you do are you sure you have the right paint for your walls? There are many different types of interior paint that is available such as solvent or water based paint. Each of these have there benefits and disadvantages. Water based paint is better for long term flexibility and for good resistance to cracking and chipping. Water based paint also emit less odour and is not flammable.

Solvent based paint has the ability to be applied in just one coat. It is a better adhesive to different types of surfaces, such as ones that haven’t been cleaned. Solvent paint also allows a greater length of time for it to be brushed before it sets.

Another aspect that you need to consider when applying paint to the interior of your property is the level of sheen that you want to acquire. The level and amount of sheen and gloss that you should choose depends on the appearance and functionality of a room. Matt paints are excellent for a uniform appearance across a large area and hides bumps and dents but can tend to trap dirt. Silk paint produces a longer lasting ‘just painted’ look and is popular for large wall areas. The finish is also resistant to dirt and stains.

Another aspect that it is important to think about is the conditions that you are going to be painting in. The temperature of a room can affect the finish of a paint job. Paint performs better in mild conditions; it shouldn’t be too hot or cold when the paint is applied. Conditions that are too cold make brushing and rolling more difficult and slows down the drying time of the paint. Conditions that are too hot can make paint dry to fast and compromise the durability of it.

For the best paint finish possible you should hire the help of a professional interior painter from a building contractor firm. By enlisting the help of a professional all your surface preparation will be taken care of and you won’t have to buy all of the equipment needed as the building contractor team will provide it. Painting is one way in order to make an immediate impact on home improvements. Nothing can instantly perk-up your ambience than repainting, it is an instant renovation that revive faded sidings and peeling walls. A property can significantly improve through repainting. According to some painting contractors in Atlanta GA repainting a house can dramatically increase its market value and painting services in Atlanta are very affordable. Painting can also increase the lifespan of your property though you have to do it correctly in order to attain maximum benefits from your paint job. An Atlanta painter said that house painting is a serious business and you have to do it right the first time so you won’t be repainting again in just a couple of years.

You have to commit time, money and effort, even if you’re going to hire a pro. A good painting company involves you from the planning to the finishing of your paint job project. Though you’re going to exert more time and effort if you’re going to do it on your own. Painting project can be very rewarding, so in order to execute a job that you can be proud of, here are some tips and notes you might want to pick-up:

· Summer is the best time for your house-repainting project, especially the exterior.

· Choose the right paint. Good paints are durable and will not easily wear off or fade through the years. Paint quality also determines whether your paint job will look good or not, top quality paints are also easier to apply, making your work much faster as it covers surfaces more quickly and with ease. As painting is a no easy task, you wouldn’t want to be repainting the same wall again within 4 or 5 years right?

· You will only need to apply a primer if the surface to be painted is porous or the paints are incompatible like latex paint over alkyd painted surfaces.

· Repair damages and smoothen the surface to be painted. Free your surface to be painted from peeling, blistering and wrinkling but be careful not to scrape the wood or misshapen the original material. Smoothen the surface with appropriate tools like sandpaper, etc. The smoother the surface the better it will look and last.

· Cover areas that DO NOT NEED painting. Use masking tape (at least 2-3 inches thick) and drop cloths or newspapers. Mask windows or ceiling areas near the wall to be painted, but be sure to remove mask after painting to avoid stubborn bond. Cover the floor area or anything that maybe in danger of catching drop-off paints while painting.

· Paint from top most portions going down. With your high quality four-inch brush, stroke paint from the gutters or eaves going down to the main surfaces. Cover 3 to 4 square feet sections at a time. Stroke paint in a down-up motion for concretes; follow the wood grain for wooden walls or panels.

· Clean-up. Use soap and water to clean latex paints and paint thinner for alkyds to thoroughly clean paintbrushes immediately after painting. Keep excess paint tightly enclosed in cans while seal used paint thinners in bottles or cans. Do not dispose thinners and paints on the ground; also do not burn these substances as they may cause wild fire or blow-up your place. Bring these waste materials to toxic waste collection sites.

Beautiful Pintos And Paint Horses

Samantha Davis Home Family/Pets 2007-06-22

Broken colored horses are associated in the popular imagination with the old American west. In particular, they are associated with Native Americans, with whom they were a popular choice, as the pattern of broken colors made the horses hard to see, either during a hunt or during war.

Broken colored horses - also known as pintos - continue to be popular today, both in the American west and around the world. However, even though "pinto" is the Spanish word for "paint", pinto horses are not quite the same thing as paint horses.

To be registered with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA), a horse must not only have the classic broken-colored coat, it must also have either the sire or the dam registered as an American Paint Horse and have Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred blood somewhere in its background, Quarter Horse for preference.

Thus, while all paint horses are pintos, not every pinto is a paint horse - for example, a chestnut-and-white Shetland pony, while it certainly fits the description of a pinto, is not a paint horse. The same is also true, for obvious reasons, for parti-colored donkeys and mules.

Appaloosa horses, while they were also developed by Native American tribes for a similar purpose, are not classified as pintos, even though an Appaloosa can do much of the work that a paint can. The Appaloosa spots and "blanket pattern" are unique to that breed alone. The same applies to other spotted breeds.

Those not familiar with the term "paint horse" or "pinto" may be uncertain as to what the terms actually mean and what all the fuss is about. In general, paint horses are bi-colored horses, having a coat that is a mixture of white patches and patches of another colour. This should not be confused with the color known as roan, where individual white hairs are interspersed with either chestnut (red roan) or black/grey (blue roan).

A horse with black and white patches is often referred to as a "piebald" and a horse with patches of white and another color is known as a "skewbald." The most common patch colors in skewbalds are brown and chestnut, but patches of palomino (gold) and buckskin are also possible.

Among paint horses, further distinctions are made, tobiano and overo being the main ones. A horse classified has a tobiano is predominantly dark on the belly and neck with the white markings being smaller, while an overo is the reverse. Paint horses are often bred for the beauty of their markings.

Why choose a paint horse? As they have Quarter Horse ancestry, paint horses can take on a number of working roles with ease. They make excellent mounts for stock work, combining beauty with practicality, and perform well on the rodeo circuit in cutting competitions and barrel racing.

Paint horses also make good trail horses or general hacks. They also do well in the show ring, their distinctive coats making them particularly eye-catching. And, of course, many are kept as companion animals by those who admire the beauty and history of the breed.
