New Age

New Age philosophy may be the vehicle to move people from the dark ages to the next step, but it to does not go far enough - it's just another stepping stone that is moving very slowly and is destined to box itself in.

There were centuries of life on the planet before religion came along where man fought to get a foothold on dry land and survive the elements. As he became more comfortable with his life out of the ocean, he began to organize his random thoughts into cohesive sentences so that others may understand what he was thinking. Communication between tribe members brought about curiosity about whom he was and why he was here. Because he was getting no answers from the sky or from the ocean, he began to make things up and imagined all kinds of things. Some of the tribes more creative members found that they could get special treatment for telling their stories and so the seeds of organized religion were created.

For centuries humanity's imagination has been locked inside religious boxes. Centuries of religious dogma have not brought about the promise of equality, peace and brotherly love that was promised. Laws based on religious moral laws have not kept us from war between countries, special interest groups, or family and neighbours. It has not brought equality to the sexes or sharing of our natural resources. The system has failed us, yet it was inevitable and a natural step in the evolution of primitive cultures.

New Age is the present door that offers alternatives to religious faith. Its major theme is oneness as apposed to the duality taught by many religions. The other major difference is that it does not seek to change the world, but to allow the thoughts of the individual to evolve. Because New Age believes that we are all connected as one mind, any thought that one has, will be communicated to the whole and eventually accepted as the new truth. Therefore it does not need to be organized or have institutions. New Age philosophy teaches that it is the natural tendency for all things to evolve to a higher level of awareness or experience. Because New Age philosophy is not centralized or boxed, it encourages evolution outside of its own philosophy. This insures its survival in the process of humanities evolution, because it is not an end unto itself. The seeds have been spread and allowed to germinate sporadically around the world.

As a New Age writer and one who has helped to spread the philosophy, I can see the end of it unless it is willing to take the next step itself. Not unlike religion, New Age is getting quite comfortable with itself and is enjoying a surge in popularity and recognition. It is in danger of becoming another money making venture as has religion.

The motive behind writing and teaching New Age must be its basic philosophy of expanding humanities awareness, not how much you can make from it. There is nothing inherently right or wrong about making a living teaching New Age philosophy or religion. And I support these people as I don't believe a life lived in poverty or want is a good example of how well a system is working.

However, it must be the goal of the writers and teachers to move their readers and students past its philosophy for the benefit of all. In other words if I teach you my truth, you will develop a new truth and teach me yours. And so this leap-frogging will keep moving us to the next step of greater awareness and evolution. The very meaning of life is "movement" and without it there is no life. And therefore there is only limited life in a closed system; a box is a closed system. So any philosophy that teaches one to stay in the box is doomed and so is the believer.

New Age has moved God/Creator closer to home. It talks about "the god within," "oneness with God," "one mind," but all these terms are dualistic in nature. There is the Creator/God and you joined together; which means that you and God are different entities with divided power.

You will never be fully able to manifest what you desire until you know yourself as the creator. In other words you cannot be God until you know and proclaim yourself as God. The truth is for example, that I am God manifesting in the physical body known as Roy. In order to facilitate fully the law of attraction and move myself to the next step of enlightenment; I will have to know myself as the law, as God. This is where New Age is lacking. It is embracing the age of this realization but cannot go forward because it and the rest of the world is not ready to accept that responsibility. And there is still money to be made in religion and writing New Age books, (Not that there is anything wrong with that).

I am not saying anything different than what religion has been saying for centuries. There is a path back to the Creator. What I am saying is that You/God can continue in the physical life knowing who and what you really are. I am saying that you and your creator have never been separated, but have lived with the illusion that you are. In knowing this you can take control of your own personal power to create the life that you want to experience and life will be much easier. Understanding the bigger picture will bring great satisfaction knowing that it is you who creates the circumstances of your life and that you have the power to change it at any time.

History has shown that the first step is usually the hardest and the slowest. New Age will be a little faster, and the next step will be a quantum leap into something else. Our technology best demonstrates this point, if you consider where we were 150 years ago.

Most people will experience the end of the world, because they believe that it will happen. For the few that have moved past that belief, there will be an easy transformation from one state of existence to another as matter cannot be created nor destroyed. The universe is changing shape but it will never be lost.

All beliefs are relevant, they are all appropriate as the creator moves from one to the other to experience what the mind can only conceive. As the creator you can make yourself aware of this movement by letting go of your old concepts and open the doors to other possibilities. By understanding that you are not just the body, but the energy that animates it. No thought should be the end, but a new beginning. Roy E. Klienwachter is a resident of British Columbia, Canada. New Age Solutions For New Age Business

Modern problems inevitably require modern answers. And modern business has to stay up to date with the changes that are constantly taking place. Technological advances have made it necessary for offices everywhere to deliver quickly and efficiently. There is a great deal of competition everywhere. A slight hiccup here and a faltering step there might result in the slipping away of a lucrative contract. Businesses today do not have the luxury of dilly-dallying with their decisions. Everything has to be instant. A minute more might result in tremendous loss. That is the way of the world today, and every business organization has to adapt itself to the various needs of the world.

Conference calling has been one of the solutions that more and more businesses are increasingly turning to. Now, conference calls have been around for a while. They are not new entrants to the business world. However, conference calling has become much faster. It has become far more convenient. And it is widely regarded as a great way of coming in contact with people across the globe. With globalization becoming quite the rage, one cannot help but recognize the power of a conference call to facilitate business decisions. People who are located miles away from each other can be brought together via the power of technological progress.

Moreover, the look of the age-old conference call has also changed. One no longer has to sign up for a con call much in advance. Conference call booking these days happens within minutes. Also, a conference call no longer has to be restricted to the audio mode. These days, with the rise of the Internet, and the popularity of web conferencing, most conference calling services give clients the option of using video facilities. So, conducting a conference call is now very similar to the traditional meeting. The personal touch that might have been missing in the audio conference calling facility can be gained via audio-video conferencing.

Conference calling is increasingly providing an effective way of speaking to the problem of having clients and colleagues who are situated abroad. Their travel and accommodation expenses might have amassed to a higher amount than that of conducting a conference call. Most conference calling services that you might look up will provide a variety of rates and bargains for their best customers. Whether one decides to go with web conferencing or audio conferencing would be almost entirely dependent on the budget that is at hand and the requirements of the meeting. The need of the day seems to be customized conference calling.

New Age Science Equals Baloney

Go into any book store and the shelves are filled with New Age Science books. But of course, in reality, there is no science to be had. The New Age movement actually contradicts every aspect of the scientific method. Science relies on inductive and deductive reasoning and conclusions are arrived at through principled procedures of investigation and identification, of objectively knowable phenomena, that obey physical laws within reality.

To couple New Age with science of course, leads to an oxymoron. The very definition New Age, implies that there is a new method of reasoning to arrive at, through determinable facts about the universe and these new age proponents, are doing something revolutionary and beyond what the average working day scientist is doing. But 'New Age science', should really be called new age mysticism and indeed, it is when people are being a little more honest.

So, why do people believe in this clap-trap. Well, the fact is that most individuals are mentally lazy and they will look for and even believe in any method of knowledge, that even sounds remotely scientific, even though of course, it is not based on scientific research in any way whatsoever. The other reason is; that most people don't really care about science and would rather live their lives in the realm of delusion, anything other than face reality as it really is.

An example of new age mysticism that 'borrows' from science is the writings, audios and lectures of Deepak Chopra. He makes his New Age science pitch sound scientific, by rapping it up in Quantum Physics. Of course he is not doing any scientific research within the field of quantum physics and not only that, he totally misappropriates the correct scientific definitions of what Quantum physics predicts in reality, wrapping it up in pseudo scientific predictions, about the individuals 'spiritual self', and how the physical self relates to the 'Quantum World' but really it has nothing to do with quantum physics and is just a religious position. He does this to pass on his New Age religion and sell it to the masses of none thinking dupes, in a form of pseudo scientific sounding mumbo-jumbo... Something all New Age gurus do, in one way or another.

Chopra is just one of many of course and the list of New Age 'sciences' is almost endless, it can really be defined as anything within the paranormal or supernatural realm, that 'apparently' cannot be explained through 'normal' science and thus New Age science fills that gap. The term New Age was popularized in the media in the 1980's... Such supernatural and paranormal phenomena include, but are not limited to: Crop Circles, holistic health and medicines, Crystal Healing, Channeling, psychic phenomena, cold reading, transcendentalism, Feng Shui, Magic Alchemy, Mesmerism... etc.

Now, what all these beliefs have in common, is that they rely on paranormal and supernatural claims. Well supernatural means above nature and paranormal means beyond the ranges of natural definition. So, in reality when one combines the term New Age with science, what one is really saying is that paranormal and supernatural claims can be subsumed under scientific definitions, but of course this is a complete contradiction, if something is above or beyond the realms of natural definitions, then it is by definition, beyond the realms of science.

The reason that the New Age gurus like to combine New Age within a scientific definition, is to raise it to a new level of credibility, simply through definitions. If you combine Science with New Age in a new definition of New Age Science , it leads to a gullibility in being swallowed as something it's not. By simply adding science to the definition New Age, then the mystic gurus are more able to 'peddle their wares' with an air of 'credibility' beyond that of simply calling it New Age. But at the end of the day, it is just mysticism and there is no science to be had.

New Middle Age Group And Their New Careers

There are over 78 million Baby Boomers, and a lot of them are getting ready to start new careers as they enter a new stage in their lives and prepare to reenter the work force.

Many people in their forties, fifties and sixties who consider themselves part of the new middle aged group are searching for new careers where they can take advantage of their vast experience and prior successes.

Some have decided to start a second career because they need more money to fund the type of lifestyle they want to continue to enjoy.

Some have decided to start a new career because they feel good and just don’t want to retire.

Some like the sense of accomplishment that comes from working and being creative.

Whatever the reason, there is a large group of people who want to find something to do that can bring them income and or personal satisfaction, and the ability to work at home for as many hours as they wish.

One has to be careful because there are many scam artists out there looking to take advantage of this situation and hawking a variety of get rich quick schemes.

One rule of thumb to follow is if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If it promises instant riches with little or no work it is probably a phony.

There are, however, legitimate opportunities out there in the market place, that depending on your talents, interests, and background, might be worth pursing if you are interested in starting over.

The question is what can you expect when starting a new venture – probably the same type of thing you have been used to in the past in a new Internet based format.

You still have to answer the questions who wants to buy what I will be offering, and are there enough of them to make my venture profitable?

You will have to decide for yourself if the project you are considering offers you a really substantial money making opportunity, or if you are just going to be wasting your time and spinning your wheels.

Whatever you decide to do, please remember the words that God in His infinite wisdom may be whispering in your ear.

“Yes you can. You can do anything you set your mind to. All you need is faith in yourself and in Me.” *******

The New Age Child

Here comes the New Age Child - the Indigo Child. Clear and large eyes are the recognizing factors of the Indigo Children. Brilliant memory, a strong urge to live accompanied with sensitivity and god gifted spirits, these children are the New Age Children. They possess both the capability and the potential to change the ambiance of our lives. Thus they are acting as the bridge to our future.

The Indigo Children are the new generation being born in the 21st century. 'Indigo Child' - the name itself indicates the vibrant colors which surround them and the 'Third eye' of these new born children is indicative of the fact that they are born psychics and possesses a strong intuition. On the basis of their in-born powers the Native Americans call them 'Children of the Sun' whereas 'Millennium Children' is the name given by some other authors.

Characteristics of the New Age Children:

1.They do not like to be dominated by others.
2.Rituals and traditional beliefs irritate them.
3.They are always on the look out of improving themselves and their work, be it their school or home.
4.They gel with their kind of people very well, otherwise they are very unsociable.
5.They are very straight forward in expressing their needs and feelings.
6.Timid ness is something which repels them.
7.They have a strong self esteem.
8.Impatient is the keyword amongst the new age children.
9.They never tolerate or respond to any erroneous work done by others.
10.Monotonous work is something which bores them easily.
11.Creativeness is in abundance.
12.They are 'the Jack of all trade' - can do too many things at a single go.
13.Sixth sense is very strong within them.
14.God gifted intelligence are their specialty.
15.Develops abstract thinking power from infancy.
16.Acquires high self confidence.
17.They are masters in day dreaming.
18.Wise thinkers with foresightedness.
19.They are generally born psychics.
20.They are extroverts in expressing their angers.
21.Need the help of others to discover their talents and themselves.

But one thing should be remembered - as a result of their psychic abilities indigo children should not be confused with the children who genetically inherit these abilities. The New age children purportedly possess certain spiritual as well as some psychological attributes.

Parenting the New Age Children:
Parents are always the same; whether they are the parents of a normal child or an indigo child. Like the other new born children, indigo children are no exceptions to facing several challenges in life. But it is very important for the parents of the indigo children to understand their psychology.

Parents need to give their children all possible special attention, love, care and proper guidance. The child should be given every opportunity to excel in whatever field they express their interest; because if these children are meant to play some important roles in bridging the current generation with the next, they will do so in whatever way they feel it right. In short, the Indigo Children are the 'well balanced' children. So being the parent of these children, you need to know the child you are dealing with. In case you fail to understand their needs and psychology always be prompt in taking professional help.

That "New" Middle Age, Again

Leeann Simons Health Fitness/Health Fitness 2008-01-08

Whilst lying on the ground (having slipped on the ice during my walk the other day), I was once again pondering this whole idea of the "new middle age." I was lying there thinking "if I was in my 30's, would I really be thinking about calling my husband and asking him to pick me up, because my back hurt? Or would I simply get my 30+ year old body up and keep walking?"

Finally, I did pick up this 50+ body and started walking, albeit as a much more sedate pace.

This whole idea of my 50’s being more like being in my 30’s intrigues me. In many ways, we 50+ folks are indeed in better health than our parents were. Our access to health care, for many of us, is much better, so medically we can take better care of ourselves. The concept of “personal trainer” was unheard of twenty-five years ago, as was the idea of belonging to a gym. Many of our parents couldn't even consider making time for a daily walk.

We are lucky, though, because so many of us are able to include these benefits into our lives, allowing us to be a much healthier generation.

However, some things haven’t changed. As we age, our metabolism still slows down, which is why we tend to gain weight as we age. Metabolism refers to the rate at which the body burns calories. There are many factors affecting what is called our “metabolic rate,” including height (tall people burn more calories than short folks), fasting (that’s why skipping meals is not a good way to lose weight-your metabolism slows down) and temperature. In colder temperatures, our bodies need to burn more calories to stay warm. I suppose one way to lose weight would be to run around naked in the cold. However, I’m not sure how long this “diet” would last before your neighbors call the police.

The point is that we cannot control many of the factors affecting our metabolic rate, including age (young, middle or old). Activity, however, is one factor we can control. When you are active, you’re body can build muscle. Muscle tissue is considered to be more metabolically active because more calories are needed to maintain muscle than fat. Fat is a lazy tissue, and can get along without any help on our part. But muscle? There’s a different story. Because muscles need more calories to get their job done, the more muscles you have, the more calories your body requires. And that’s why, as we age, we need to stay active. We need to build our muscles, and maintain them to keep weight off. Walking is one important activity I rely on to keep my metabolism up. Others enjoy lifting weights. As long as you have worked with an experienced trainer making sure you don’t injure yourself, increased muscle mass is definitely a benefit of this activity. Being active raises your metabolic rate, increasing the number of calories you burn while preventing fat tissue from growing.

So whether you are lying on the ice wondering how to get up, or stuck in a couch wondering how to get out, think about staying active. It’s the activity that will make moving around (and preventing weight gain) a lot easier-at any age.

WHOLISM AND THE NEW AGE

by

Diane Brandon

We find ourselves perched on the "cusp" of a new era, or so we're told -- a "new age." A whole new era will be ushered in -- with the emphasis on newness.

Part of that newness, I believe, will be new thinking, a breaking of the old, the creation of the new. New thinking, new forms. But are we still caught up in the old thinking? Are we marching into the "New Age" dragging our old thinking along?

We talk a lot about wholism -- "wholistic health," "wholistic living." And I feel that wholism is a form that we are inexorably moving towards, an integral part of the "New Age." But what does "wholism" really mean and what are the implications of wholistic being?

Well, obviously the term wholistic comes from the word "whole." And a whole is the combination or total of its parts. "Wholeness" is considered to be desirable: we strive "to be whole."

Unfortunately the age and culture we live in has heavily swayed us against wholeness. We separate and compartmentalize, rather than uniting. We live in an age of specialization, splitting off parts of ourselves and earning a living doing one thing, thereby neglecting our other talents and interests.

We separate and reject, rather than unite and accept. We compete, rather than cooperate. We fear and push away that which is feared, rather than accept and understand. We judge, rather than forgive and accept. We talk about dualities of good vs. evil, light vs. dark, rather than look at the whole, which is composed of both, and combinations and gradations thereof. We engage in simplistic labeling and thinking, rather than deal with totalities and nuances -- the polar opposites, rather than mixtures or shades of gray.

All of these engrained habits of thinking have been salient characteristics of the Piscean Age, and we have all been under their spell.

So, how do we move toward wholeness, given all the influences on us to the contrary?

The Personal Level

Let's take a look first at wholeness as applied to the individual or personal level. I would think that, to be whole, we must first accept ourselves as a whole. Rather than split off parts of ourselves as undesirable and disowning them, we can accept that everything exists for a purpose. To believe otherwise is to reject creation and second guess the Creator.

Therefore, we can first accept all our faculties: left brain and right brain; logic, feeling, and intuition. How many times have we heard someone say, "I don't think; I feel?" Why not think and feel. Instead of labeling one as "bad" and the other as "good," why not consider that both serve a purpose? Why thinks in terms of "ors" that separate, instead of "ands" that unite? If any of these faculties did not serve a purpose, why were they created? There are times when I don't know where my thinking or ideas come from: from my logic or intuition or feeling. It feels, instead, as if the parts are working together as a whole -- which is a nice feeling, a feeling of wholeness. We can become more whole by reclaiming all parts of ourselves.

Emotions

Emotions get a lot of bad press. We tend to reject emotions as undesirable qualities, especially "negative" emotions like pain or anger. We suppress our emotions; it's not "good" to be "emotional." Isn't it possible that emotions serve a purpose, perform a function? To me, emotions are indicators, or signals: they tell us when something is going well or needs to be worked on. If we pay attention to our emotions, we can learn and grow.

If the different parts of ourselves are working together, then we achieve a wholeness or balance in our lives. If we suppress or deny parts of ourselves, the energy of the parts disowned does not dissipate; it remains and throws us off balance.

The Role of Fear

Certainly fear is an emotion that is a big bugaboo to us. When we label something as "bad," we push it away. The more "bad" it is for us and the more we push it away, the more we fear it. As anyone who has worked on his or her issues knows -- or as any truly spiritually wise person knows -- fear is our teacher, if we go into it. Fear separates and holds us back; it does not unite. If, however, we face our fear and go into it, we learn from it and reclaim a disowned part of us. We also usually learn that our fear of the fear was worse than what we thought we feared, the object of our fear. We learn that superstition and fear are only shadows, projections from within ourselves with no real substance, projections from our own lack of wholeness. We also gain in self-confidence when we go into fear. We become more whole.

A healthy curiosity can also help with fear, because curiosity opens us; its energy goes outward. An open mind is an inquiring one. A closed mind holds us back. Curiosity impels us forward to learn and grow.

Fear exists in the New Age community as well and, unfortunately, at times is taught to others. There was an idea going around last winter before the first Uranus-Neptune conjunction about "negative space entities" that were going to use the conjunction as some sort of opening to do "negative," bad things to "lightworkers."

I was taken aback when I heard this, as well as baffled and somewhat saddened. Here was fear in all its grandeur, rearing its head again -- this time in the New Age community, a community I had thought was enlightened. New drama, old thinking. The old myth and fear of evil and Satan in New Age clothing. The old need to fear something and project it outward in an anthropomorphic fashion: Satan was now "negative space entities."

Fear wields its power pervasively, especially when one feels separation, and it rules with an iron fist. Unfortunately fear can contaminate and be contagious: we teach our fear to others. Again, we can learn from going into fear and examining it openly, thereby reclaiming our wholeness. A life without fear is a "whole"-some life.

Self-Development

The human potential development movement also springs from a move toward wholeness. As we develop talents that have lain dormant and acquire new skills, we develop more parts of our selves – and thus become more of a whole.

As we start to reclaim disowned parts of ourselves and truly develop ourselves as whole human beings, wholeness is not the only result. Self-development can also lead to self-acceptance, self-esteem, and self-empowerment.

We can also apply wholism and new forms to the personal area of career. I first found myself expounding the following idea during a reading and was surprised by what was coming out of my mouth. An idea had formed, unbeknownst to me, and it was an idea that I could apply to myself.

Basically, I found myself saying that one could assess one's talents, abilities, and interests and come up with a career that combined these, thus drawing on one's wholeness. That perhaps we err in trying to think of having a job or career that already exists in our economic structure -- of trying to fit ourselves into a pre-existing hole, instead of carving out and creating a career that suits us. A new form customized for us specifically.

In our one-dimensional society, we tend to think of people as being or doing only one thing. But this, of course, is the antithesis of wholeness. The eclectic person tends to be whole. And that eclecticism can be incorporated into how one earns one's living. This idea runs counter to our era of narrow specialization, but I feel that we are truly moving toward just this sort of whole living and career, and away from specialization that cuts us off from things.

Wholistic living does not imply a closed system. The moment we think we have all the answers and stop seeking and questioning and adding to our whole -- we close down and cease learning and growing. Closing down -- not being open -- also implies separation.

The Societal or Larger Level

Which brings us to another area of wholism -- the societal, or our interactions with others and our world. How can we apply wholism to our interactions with that which is outside us?

Just as being whole means accepting all our own parts, it also implies accepting other people. It means feeling a connection, rather than separation. Just as Native Americans view all of life as interconnected, wholism as a world-view implies that we are part of a whole. We are not only connected to other humans (both those we deem "bad," as well as "good"), but to all of life: animals, plants, rocks, air. We are part of an interconnecting and very complex web of life -- the ultimate symbiotic relationship. Any time we separate ourselves from the whole, we are negating not only the whole, but also aspects of ourselves.

There are many ways in which we separate ourselves from the whole: by judging others; by seeing ourselves as separate or different or better; by criticizing; by "shoulding" other people; by labeling.

Personal Causes of Alienation

Why do we feel this separation (so strongly that at times it is more alienation than separation)? One of the reasons is that old word "ego." We are trapped in our egos -- and the ego need to feel important in comparison to others and separate from things. And the ego need to feel important comes from not loving ourselves, from low self-esteem. Which ultimately goes back to not accepting ourselves -- and all our parts and traits. Ergo, learning to accept ourselves -- all of our parts -- is a step towards loving ourselves, as well as loving and feeling connected to others.

Another cause of separation is our own pain. And our pain comes from different things -- from not accepting ourselves, from unresolved issues from the past. The more we go into our pain (similar to going into fear), the more we resolve and heal it – and heal ourselves. As we heal our pain, we become more whole. Pain closes us in into ourselves. It pulls our energy in and prevents that energy from radiating out. As we heal ourselves of pain, we feel our energy flow outward -- thus connecting ourselves to other things and people.

Even our language may contribute to our feeling of separation. We define by difference, rather than similarity or commonality. We want to know how something is different from something else. We have a need to distinguish by differences. It is interesting to note that many Native American languages do not have nouns, only verbs. In these languages, what we see as things or people are instead processes or actions -- a dance of energy, rather than something fixed or immutable. It is very hard to label something that is in movement and thus changing. And once we label or define, we cease seeing something or someone as unique; we cease seeing them afresh. It is a mental shortcut to label and define -- we no longer have to deal with the more involved process of seeing freshly.

Our very society has influences for alienation. As our population has increased and increasing urbanization has crowded us together more and more, we increasingly tend to view other people as objects -- as obstacles that get in our way. We have to "fight" through traffic. We have to stand behind others in line. It is hard to feel connected to others when we feel others are "in our way." So some of us seek a more "wholesome" life in less urban settings.

Cooperation

The very idea of competing for things -- competing for food, for jobs, for space -- has been a hallmark of the Piscean Age. The Aquarian Age, we are told, will be one of cooperation, rather than competition or domination. Some people speak of the shift from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age as a shift from the dominating, paternalistic force to the rise of the cooperative, feminine principle.

Certainly cooperation is a facet of wholism -- the parts of a whole cooperating or working together, rather than fighting or abrading against each other. But striving for wholeness in society or the world ultimately begins on the personal level. A whole entity cannot be working together smoothly and "wholesomely" if the individual component parts are not smooth, whole-functioning microcosms of the whole.

Charity Begins at Home; Wholeness Begins in the Self

Perhaps healing our pain, working on our issues, shining a light on our less-illumined areas, accepting ourselves, striving to be whole within ourselves, developing our potential, having an open, curious outlook, and changing our thinking -- all of this together is the first step. It is no coincidence at all that there has been an intense flurry of activity in the past several years as more and more people have been "working on their issues." This is definitely happening for a reason, for we can't bypass the personal work to leap into the divine. Ofttimes an intense desire to immerse oneself in the New Age movement without having done one's personal work may represent an unconscious desire to escape from pain -- a denial of one's reality and diversion of attention from one's problems. (Denial is not just a river in Africa!) If we are here for a purpose, then part of the purpose may be to fully experience life and learn and grow -- here and now.

I often hear some people refer to themselves as "lightworkers," who are on a mission to save people. That we are now in the throes of a struggle between light and dark. That people are being forced to choose between "life" and "death." And woe to those who choose "death."

This is a very seductive idea. But does this picture feel right to you? It encompasses a lot of the old thinking and pulls people in through fear and separation. It taps into a lot of ego needs and pain-based needs. Physician, heal thyself.

We first have the duality of light vs. dark, the totalitarian and simplistic thinking dividing things and people into polar opposites -- no grays, just black and white. People are good or bad, light or dark. Period. There is no in-between. We also have the old separatist thinking of Us vs. Them, the Good Guys vs. the Bad Guys. (If we wanted to give it a Western touch, we could add white and black hats -- just so people could tell at a glance who was who.) We also strongly have the element of fear: if you don't choose life, you get death. It pushes people's fear buttons big-time. (If you're not good, you'll get coal in your stocking; "so you'd better be good for goodness' sake....")

And, after it has pushed all the big fear and separation buttons, it then gives a pay-off, the Reward, by pushing the ego-need button. The need to feel good about oneself. And not just good -- superior. Superior to others. A savior. A "lightworker," separate and above others (except for those other lightworker members of your exclusive clique). Who needs a country club when you can have your own New Age substitute version? This, for many, is an enticing notion, coming out of pain and need, but, unfortunately, at the expense of others: others must be seen as in the dark and needing to be saved in order for the "lightworker" to be exalted. For anyone with low self-esteem, who feels alienated from others and has deep-seated fears, and who has not done his or her personal work, this is very strong stuff.

And it is exactly the same heady brew of button-pushing that we have seen in religions over the years. Take a populace that has fears, is alienated from itself as well as others, and is into separation (Us vs. Them) and, voila: we have the Crusades and other variations on a theme. We can all be susceptible to such ideas.

We all have a mission and a purpose. Otherwise, why are we here -- any of us? But are we divine saviors? (Or are we all not divine saviors?) Must others be base, foundering in the dark and needing to be saved -- by us in our elevated and rarefied position? Or are we all not a mixture of light and dark -- somewhat less than perfect (and yet perfect because we are where we are meant to be)?

In reality, we are all at different places on our respective paths, and we all contain grays and gradations of light. We are all in this together and are connected. We all learn from each other, and we all have something to contribute.

And, as we contribute, there is an exchange of energy, which can be wholistic as well -- a circle, if you will. With wholistic energy, the cycle must be complete: if it goes out, it must be returned. An equal give and take. As we teach, so we learn. As we give, so are we given.

Transitions are not easy. As we go through change, a lot of dirt and discomfort are stirred up. We are, however, inexorably moving towards wholism. All our separation and fear and underlying dualistic thinking are gradually dying away. The old rigid and separatist forms and thinking are winding down. More and more people are changing their thinking, working on their issues, healing themselves, and becoming whole. And seeing themselves as part of the whole. And as we heal and grow, the whole reflects our change by also healing. The throes of change may be discomfitting, especially when the change is fundamental, but wholism will be part of the future. We can be healthy parts of that whole.

Social Filmmaking: the New Age Mashup

Betsy Parker Arts Entertainment/Movies 2007-08-27
View Detail

What do you get when you combine the popular Web 2.0 model of social networking (Facebook, Orkut, MySpace) with filmmaking? Social Filmmaking – The New Age Mashup.

A “Mashup” is defined by Wikipedia as, “A web application that combines data from more than one source into an integrated experience.” When it comes to Social Filmmaking, the two sources are namely: “Social Networking,” i.e. a collaboration of like-minded individuals on a Web 2.0 platform that encourages sharing of messages and media, and “Filmmaking”—the process of creating films for entertainment or education.

Social Filmmaking has found its unique definition already—defined as the process of building either a part of, or a complete film, through a group of people collaborating on a social networking website. The origins of Social Filmmaking can be traced back to the first Open Source movie project, which was launched in 2005. Although the project never gained visibility amongst a mainstream audience, it was lauded by industry experts who were amazed at the possibilities of using the Internet as a collaboration medium. Before this era, no one had dreamed that people collaborating on a website could ever make a film together. Although that dream is far from being realized even today, it is not very distant. With the power of the Internet, and particularly as like-minded, talented individuals begin to collaborate—working as remote teams from different parts of the globe—a skilled resource pool has emerged that knows what people want to see and is competent enough to deliver tiny bits and pieces of entertainment together.

As the Web 2.0 framework undergoes rapid changes in recent months, this new age mashup promises to trigger a new revolution in the entertainment industry. The question that remains to be answered is, “Is it possible to create an entire mainstream film through “social filmmaking”?” Well, according to Hinesh Jethwani, Founder & Head of Lets Film - www.LetsFilm.com – it is. “When millions of open source software developers can collaborate to create and support a complete Operating System (Linux) that has gained cult status in less than a decade, why should making a complete film in a similar collaboration be any different?” he says. “The only problem, is making producers believe in this model,” adds Hinesh.

Social Filmmaking is giving a unique chance to individuals to come and experience the science of filmmaking without having a pre-requisite qualification for the same. This next big revolution is waiting to explode. Would the next Steven Spielberg or Syd Field be you?

A New Age Of Feminism

Kate Loving Shenk Politics/Politics 2007-01-17

The February issue of Playboy magazine hit the stands this week. An Airforce sergeant holds the dubious honor of centerfold celebrity stardom.

Her name is Michelle Manhart.

Ms. Manhart is mother of two, whose husband is also in the airforce. She trained in the Air force law enforcement academy and the K9 program, soon racking up a long list of medals and commendations. She served in Kuwait on the second anniversary of 9/11, got a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Northern Iowa, and started on a master's degree.

Her childhood dream was always to be a Playboy model. And her wish has finally been granted.

When Manhart told her superior officier about the Playboy pictures, she was taken off the job.

"The staff sergeant's alleged action is not representative of the many thousands of outstanding airmen who serve in the US Airforce today."

Manhart now has a lawyer.

"There's nothing wrong with it," Manhart said last week. "By no means did I see anything wrong in what i was doing."

My sister and I were discussing this on the phone last evening. We decided that The New Age of Feminism is here.

In simple terms, feminism is the belief in social, political and economic equality of the sexes, and a movement organized around the belief that gender should not be the pre-determinant factor shaping a person's social identity or socio-political or economic rights.

Our grandmother was a suffragette. Feminism as an organized movement appeared in the late 19th century in a number of countries, and agitation for votes for women became increasingly visible and vocal at the beginning of the twentieth century. After the granting of suffrage, women's movements turned to other issues of social reform and equality. The two world wars changed much of the world and with it the perception of women's work outside the home.

After the Second World War, feminism entered a second stage or wave with campaigns for reproductive rights and removal of discrimination. The United Nations created an office to represent women's rights. Since then feminism has continued to reinvent and redefine itself to adapt to a changing world and a diversity of cultures.

"When we were young, women did not serve in the military nor did we want to serve, because we were pacifist--at least everyone we knew were pacifist," said my sister.

"We, our generation, thought Playboy bunnies were sexist pigs, starting with Hugh Hefner," I said.

I see things differently, these days.

I see Manhart's actions as an extention of the bravery she displays by her service to our country. Women all over the globe are oppressed and abused. 90% of the nursing workforce are women, who are hostile and aggressive to one another, especially to new nurses coming in.

So when Michelle Manhart decided to live out her chilhood dream, little did she know that she resurrected Women's Liberation to a new level of expression.

Her right to uninhibited free expression translates to a greater level of freedom for women everywhere, in the long run.

The military, for starters, will drop the double standard.

Maybe after I'm gone from this physical plane, Muslam women will drop their veils, the Widows of India will be given the freedom to remarry, Taliban women will be given the right to a good education.

The list goes on and on........

The freedoms that American women enjoy are light years ahead of what women in third world countries experience.

And Michelle Manhart's story just dropped the barriers even further.

For that, I am grateful.

The Personal Digital Assistants better known as the PDA's are new age electronic devices that store all your personal information and data and process it whenever you need it.

These devices are not only about storing and retrieving data but they come with a variety of options for added functionality and convenience.

These devices are equipped to give you more functionality than processing data and these new functionalities include handwriting recognition, networking, wireless communications, MP3 players, phone etc.

This device can be classified by considering its functionality and the operating system or OS it uses. More features like the Memory and processing speed also help us to determine different types of PDA's.

But in general you will find the PDA's classified as hand-held PDA's and palm-sized PDA's. The only major differences between these two being size, display and mode of data entry.

The hand-held PDA's, if compared to the palm-sized PDA's, tend to be larger and heavier. They have larger liquid crystal displays (LCD) and use a miniature keyboard, usually in combination with touch-screen technology, for data entry.

Whereas, the palm-sized PDA's are smaller and lighter. They have smaller LCDs and rely on stylus/touch-screen technology and handwriting recognition programs for data entry.

When you stat looking for a PDA device what you need is device with the most compatible operating system. The Windows Pocket PC OS is the most popular as it is compatible with most of the Desktops. The size does matter.

The small sized PDA device is easier to carry and use. While considering a PDA note that a choosing a big screen will ensure that no unnecessary strain is put on your eyes.

The best PDAs are loaded with the most useful applications and are Internet ready to keep you on move. RAM is an essential factor for choosing a PDA device. The one that have more RAM helps you to process data faster and run more applications.

Some of these devices come with memory slots so that you can insert a compact flash or secured memory stick to increase its storage capacity. The handheld device is well equipped with networking capabilities. It helps you to get connected with LAN's and other wireless networks.

A handheld model is designed to give you the freedom of accessing important data without the geographical limitations, and with added convenience. So it can be used by those who have to spend most time out of the office and carrying a laptop every time is not a possibility. In fact in some occasions it is more useful as it is handy and can be carried in the pocket.

It is very useful with some of its interesting features like handwriting recognition software, which make using it even more convenient. It helps you in a great deal to stay connected to the Internet and can function as a mobile phone as well.

This combination is great for the people who need to communicate a lot and at the same time require data at their fingertips. It is also a great entertainment tool with music and video player, which makes it a great companion everywhere.

The New Age of Marketing

This is the age of the Internet. I bet whoever is reading this is going to be reading it from a website. How many countless millions are online at this very moment? I wouldn’t even bother counting. There is no denying that the Internet has stirred a massive change not just on how we go about our social circle but most of all in how businesses have taken Internet Marketing to a different level.

The size of the audience one can reach through online advertising, websites, banners, or even pop-ups is enormous. Even television advertising can’t necessarily lay the same claim to the size of audience that the Internet opens up for a business. However, as great of a form of marketing it can be, no company should be foolish enough to disregard the power of print advertising. In fact, the successful ones are those who know how to maximize the fusion of both.

The problem with focusing your energies on advertising online is a matter of targeting a certain audience. Placing advertisements on websites can certainly be effective but with the number of ads showing up everywhere, people have developed a greater ability to ignore it. When sending a business brochure in the mail people are going to be more inclined to open it up and take a look at what it has to say. You’ll find that actually holding printed materials in your hands can do wonders in grabbing your attention like no web banner ever could.

What websites grant a business is the ability to have a detailed and extensive information about their company ready for any customer to look at whenever they want, but you still need to be able to properly direct the customer to your website to begin with. Full color brochures hand them a smaller amount of information on your company, the words well chosen, the designs specifically picked out to grab a person’s interest. And then, when their attention is yours, the website address or email address should be appropriately placed. Now they know where to look and now they can take advantage of that website you set up. Give them a history of your company, an insight into exactly who they’re doing business with. Take all that information you couldn’t fit on the brochure and make sure your website covers all of it. That’s the advantage a website has, so use it to the best of your abilities. Once a person gets a full understanding of a company, they’ll be much more willing to hand over their business to them.

The Internet reaches a massive audience, sure, but a business has little control over exactly what a person chooses to look at. No matter how flashy your banner is you can’t know a person is going to really look at it, but when sending business brochures and fully colored brochures you know they’ll have to give it some of their attention. People simply like to have something tangible to look at. Why deprive them of it?

The New Age Of Computers

In the last few years, say about five, we have seen the growth of computers like never before. Though there was a lot of development over the years since its advent, there has been a big boom in this industry. This is mainly due to the money involved in this business. A lot of competitors came into the field, and they have brought it various computers to the world’s market.

When computers were initially invented, they were massive, and a lot of operations were done manually. But now, there are computers that would fit into the palms of one’s hand. A lot of companies have now stormed the market with new models. They are also of reasonable prices. Some year’s back, common man could not afford a fast machine.

Today with a single payment, people can buy a very good personal computer or laptop. It is also interesting to note that though there has been a lot of change with computers, there are still many nations who do not have access to them. Many under developed nations still do not use computers. This could probably change in the next five years.

Then there is also the use of the computers that we can look at. Earlier it could be used for many businesses as they could spend a lot of money. Today many people use it at home for simple purposes. This is what makes it exciting for many people, as they can indulge in many activities for time pass.

Computers are serving the world like never before. There has been a lot of evolvement in the computers, as they serve a lot of industries. From medicine to education and government organizations, everyone uses computers. These are the main aspects of any organization today, and without them there will be no work that could happen in today’s world.

Imagine if all computers around the world crashed. It is being estimated that information worth millions of dollars as well as a vast amount of data will be lost. The point is that this data would not have any backup. The world has become so independent on computers today, that it is so scary to know that anything could happen.

There is also the need to look at the security of the use of the computers. A lot of hackers are around, and they could steal information. The only drawback with computers!

A New Age For Aromatherapy

Misty Rae Cech, ND Health Fitness/Alternative Medicine 2007-01-12
View Detail

Therapeutic use of natural and organic essential oils for medicinal purposes is just now on the verge of being recognized as a valid tool to compliment the diverse tools of natural healing. A significant amount of resistance is still apparent, perhaps due to the pervasive image of Aromatherapy being 'feeling nice from smelling something pleasant'. Most degreed aromatherapists do not even consider this the most important function of healing with essential oils! There use in treating infectious illness is considered the realm of medicine of where they may be of greatest importance - and the fight of their image may be one 'behind the scenes'. Big pharmaceutical companies are under pressure to continually develop and market new drugs - many with questionable safety and efficacy - to meet the demands of stockholders. At the same time, many bacteria and viruses are becoming resistant to these companies products, with alarming results.

Essential oils offer inexpensive, effective treatments to which microbes do not apparently easily develop resistance to. Whether the very limited and somewhat skewed presentation of Aromatherapy in the mainstream media is related to the pharmaceutical company's demands remains to be clarified; in the meantime, you have the ways and means to include essential oils in your own natural health and wellness program.

Aromatherapy is the branch of botanical (plant-based) medicine using a particular class of compounds - no more, no less. It just so happens these compounds smell exceptionally nice - does medicine have to be nasty to work? And do drugs made by high-tech means always result in the best of these medicines? This seems unreasonable, given the fact that a very high percentage of today's modern 'drugs' are extracts of wild plants, though they have been encapsulated and manipulated so that ownership may be granted under patent law.

This doesn't mean a natural preparation of the plant can be any less effective! And what, physically, are essential oils? If you boil or send steam through plant matter, collect the steam and allow it to cool, an oil-like liquid will float atop the water. Essential oil. That's it! The chemicals made by the plant that do not dissolve in water. Interestingly enough, this 'lipophillic' nature of essential oils makes them even more compatible and absorbable with our physiology than many other plant compounds. No reason to turn our backs on them as medicines, eh?

A backlash may be coming; more people are getting fed up with the high cost of healthcare and the soaring cost of prescription drugs. They are willing to investigate natural, inexpensive alternatives, particularly when 'proven' effective in the same arena as are modern pharmaceuticals. An important example is the use of Peppermint essential oil in treating irritable bowel syndrome. A study of 50 children comparing the effects of a common chemical preparation and peppermint oil capsules on alleviating their symptoms showed the peppermint oil to be drastically more effective, with fewer side effects, than the pharmaceutical drug. The nature of the essential oil is that it will eliminate bacteria causing disease symptoms, while leaving much-needed natural intestinal flora unharmed. This is the beauty of aromatherapy, and properly utilized natural medicines in general.

Another widely published effect of a particular essential oil is that of the powerful anti-viral (and anti-depressant) Melissa oil. Melissa herb has long been used in natural medicine, often for it's stress relieving effects and nervous system support. Now, many university studies in Europe have confirmed it's effect on treating Herpes outbreaks, the result of a viral infection that has, until now, been considered incurable by the modern medical establishment. Outbreaks tend to occur when an individual is under particularly stressful conditions - and although the aroma of Melissa is thought to relieve stress, one of it's chemical components has been shown in the laboratory to eradicate certain virus types. Topical application of Melissa oil to Herpes legions has reduced the pain, duration, and frequency of the outbreaks in a significant number of study participants. Some have even experienced complete remission of the disease! A definite seal of approval for efficacy of essential oils as natural health and wellness medicine.

Then, of course, there is the 'aroma' therapeutic aspect of essential oil use. The hard facts show the olfactory sense of the brain is wired directly to vital control centers of the gray matter - particularly those governing emotions, stress levels and, well we're not sure how this relates to your health, but sexual arousal as well. And with acceptance of the importance of one's mental health relating to their physical well being continuing to grow, Aromatherapy may eventually find it's place in hospitals and doctor's offices alongside stethoscopes, syringes and cotton swabs. Many, many studies have shown the self-evaluated improvements in mood and stress levels when inhaling particular essential oils - and because stress is considered by many health professionals as THE number one cause of disease, it's a short leap to believe the inhalation of spirit-lifting aromas can result in improved states of health.

Aromatherapy is certainly not a cure all, but like any medical specialty, should be used when appropriate by knowledgeable patients and practitioners. How do you learn to use Aromatherapy most effectively for yourself? Education is the way! There are many wonderful, well-written books on the subject of medicinal usage of essential oils; of particular note are those by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt: Advanced Aromatherapy and Medical Aromatherapy; also Jane Buckle's Clinical Aromatherapy, and any publication by Robert Tisserand. These books can open a whole new world of alternative health and wellness, giving you more options to control your health care decisions than ever before. If in need, find a qualified, degreed practitioner - and remember, always consult a medical professional for any serious injury or illness. In some cases, aromatherapy can be used to as an adjunct to other treatments - discuss this with your doctor. Finally, there's little harm in simply getting started with essential oils - learn, buy yourself some nice oils, and have fun!

Casters The New Age Wheels

Casters are basically small wheels used to supporting legs of heavy furniture, support trucks, machinery to facilitate movement and transportation. In Today’s world most of the house appliances such as stoves, Television sets, room coolers, washing machines and refrigerators come with casters, as do many types of furniture. Caster wheels can be made up from a vast variety of materials and can come in many designs. Wheels might be grooved with aluminum, plastic, wood or soft rubber.

Most casters are designed to be more utilitarian than stylish so as to prove useful and beneficial rather than showing off. Though as the trends keep changing, casters are becoming more and more decorative than ever before, with wheels in various bright colors and patterns. Casters are a major part of an integrated material handling system as they do solve the problems of shifting to a great extent.

There are many kinds of caster some of which are Light Duty Casters that are Multi-purpose casters used for light duty applications. Another type of most commonly used casters is the Medium Duty Casters which are usually visible in Industries and are designed for heavier applications accordingly. The next range includes Heavy Duty Casters which are used to keep your very heavy loads rolling. Some assets seem to be immovable but these casters make us do so easily. Furniture & Office Chair Casters are used for store fixtures, ottomans, service carts, dining room chairs, and stereo equipment.

Casters have become a need of the day and we all use them without noticing the ease they provide us. Without caster wheels we will surely face a great problem some day. Some of the benefits of casters are that they are inexpensive, and can easily support up to 300 lb (181 kg). Casters are readily available at home improvement stores and one does not have to run around a lot to find suitable once. Casters are used in many applications for movably supporting loads. Smooth-wheeling chair casters can allow employees to multitask without much strain.

Casters are also very useful in offices where workspaces need to be rearranged constantly for maximization. When you are going to replace or purchase new casters you must be clear with the basic things in your mind like the wheel type that will be suitable for floor protection, what exactly should be the wheel diameter that can give necessary mobility, What will the maximum load, In what type of environment will the casters or wheels operate say water, oils, acids, corrosive materials, or excessive temperatures, How many swivel and how many rigid casters are needed, How are the casters to be mounted I.e. Top Plate, Stem, Hollow Kingpin, etc. All these questions do matter while going for caster wheels. Keeping these points in mind you can be sure of getting top presentation without excessive investment. And equally it is significant selecting the right wheel or caster will save money in the long term by heading off downtime, unnecessary maintenance expenses, and premature replacement.

For additional casters information and resources visit Casters which offers Casters, Plastic Storage Bins and other industrial supplies.

New Age Music: What Makes it different.

Tymon Hytem Business/Business 2008-05-04
View Detail
We all can agree that different styles of music have different sounds. For example, with Jazz music you can not argue the fact that Jazz music uses seventh chords almost exclusively. Because of its chord progressions this makes Jazz a different and unique sound. It is this uniqueness that gives Jazz its own specialness. It is the distinctiveness of sound that makes every music genre out there special. So just what makes New Age music so different? In this article, we will compare and contrast New Age music to Jazz, as they are on the opposite ends of the spectrum and most musicians and Jazz enthusiasts will tell you that they could not be further away from each other.
For the most part new age music is a consonant music. For one thing you do not hear Saxes in this type of music. So you won't hear any of the tense jazz chords and their voicing in this type of music. What you are left with is chords based on the regular scales and the modes. The chord progressions are much simpler and for the most part they all start on the I chord.
So we know that new age music is a consonant music. Now we need to consider the melody. In Jazz there is usually a soloist who usually plays a lot of chromatic notes. You will not find this often in new age music because it would create conflict. New age music melodies tend to be softer more in sync with what you hear on the spiritual side. Solos, on the other hand are not so much concerned with letting the music express itself.
A distinction that Jazz players must have is an ego especially when performing. What new age music musicians do is let the music play them. Basically, the musician acts the part of a speaker where the music speaks through them. You really will be hard pressed to find this in a jazz musician and if you ever watched a Jazz performance you will know that for yourself.
So now that we have talked about the type of music and melody we need to consider rhythm of the new age music. You also have to talk about the situation concerning rhythm between the two musics. If you do a contrast between Jazz music and new age music, you will find that Jazz music has a discernible rhythm more so then new age music. This is really what makes Jazz what it is. With New age music you will find a pattern or rhythm to the music. It is this rhythm that is used to create trance like states in the listener. In Jazz music it is the drums that help to maintain the rhythm of the music. You will not find Percussion in New age sound because it simply does not add to the atmosphere that new age musicians want to try to create.
The old saying that goes "timing is everything" applies here for Jazz musicians. The soloist has the freedom to play whatever he/she wants as long as he/she maintains the meter and stays in time. New age music is more flexible because timing is there, but is not what the musician is concerned with.

New Age Music - How It''s Made

Different styles of music have different "sounds." We can
all pretty much agree on that point. For example, Jazz uses
seventh chords almost exclusively. This, and the kind of chord
progressions used in Jazz gives it its unique flavor. But what
about new age music? Does it have it's own special ingredients?
Yes it does.

Now, there are no hard and fast rules here but for the most
part, new age music is a consonant music. That is, there is
little or noharshness going on in the music. No Saxes wailing
and what not. Having said that we can eliminate most of the
tense jazz chords and their voicing. So what are we left with?
Mostly Major and minor chords based on the regular scales and
the modes. The chord progressions are simpler and usually start
on the l chord. No ll-V-l progressions here.

What about melody? In jazz, we have a soloist who usually plays
a lot of chromatic notes. This is rare in new age music because
it would create dissonance. New age melodies tend to be softer
and more on the spiritual side. Solos, if there are any, are not
so much concerned with the expression of the self than they are
with letting the music express itself. A subtle but very important
distinction. Jazz players may have some ego invested in their
performance. New age musicians learn to let the music play them.
They learn to become a channel for the music itself allowing it
to speak through them. Of course, I'm not saying that this can't
happen in Jazz, but, just watch a Jazz performer and you'll see
what I mean.

Last but not least is rhythm. Let's do a comparison/contrast
between Jazz and New Age music. Jazz has a definite discernible
rhythm. It is what makes Jazz Jazz. New age music can have a
pattern or an underlying rhythm to the music. It can be used to
create trance like states in the listener. Drums are usually
a part of Jazz music. Percussion is mostly absent from the New
Age sound simply because it would not add to the atmosphere most
New Age musicians create. Timing is very important to the Jazz
musician. The soloist has the freedom to play whatever he wants
as long as he maintains the meter and stays in time. New Age music
is more elastic in that timing is there, but is not a master of
the player. The New Age player can disregard time altogether.
Just listen to Zen flute music as a good example of this.

Now, what does all this mean for the aspiring New Age musician? A
couple of good things. It means that there is a definite new age
"sound" out there. That it is here to stay and that people like
and need to hear it. And it means that there are some guidelines
out there for what defines the meaning of New Age music.

The Law of Attraction and New Age Theories

Paul Warren News Society/religion 2007-07-15

New age theories originate from occultism, neopaganism and shamanism. The ideas state that the human mind has enormous strengths and this makes us capable of achieving everything in life. The theories explain that we make our own reality, which means overcoming all possible adversities and fulfilling our mission.

The theory states that the human mind has enormous powers and can confront all negative forces that are likely to impede progress. An individual is guided by their inner voice or intuition, which is commonly referred to as divine guidance. The 'inner call', according to the theory results from a state of inner consciousness, which is the attainment of a state of mind at which one is able to see and therefore, make his reality.

New age theories speak to the law of attraction by their emphasis on the potential of the inner voice and the need for its realization. Both the modern theory and the law of attraction theories accept that the human mind is the driving force behind all successful developments in life.

Like the new age theories, the law of attraction also states that positive thoughts attract positive action and in turn, bring about positive results. It is the inner understanding of ones mind and a positive belief in his thinking that leads a man to reach this end. new age of theories stress the need for complete faith in ones inner self and self guidance rather than scientific methods operating on the plain of doubt and questioning.

Both theories, talk about realization of 'inner being', acceptance and consistency of thinking. The law of attraction too, operates on the principle of faith in ones thoughts and translates ones actions as a direct outcome of ones thought process.

The law of attraction differs from the new age theories at the level of inner consciousness; while new age theories explain that the exploration of the inner self is for the realization of the cosmic goal, the law of attraction centers on individual self awakening for individual achievement.

New age theoreticians parallel individual self exploration with spiritual exploration. According to the theories, every individual has a fixed purpose in life and this purpose is related to universal goodness.

Thus, the new age theories are a further extension of the goal law of attraction. The new age theory identifies individual accomplishment with cosmic consciousness, starting a fresh new journey from where the law of attraction reaches its end.

Energy Drinks started the New Age Beverage Industry

Everyone wants to enhance their lives and their health in some way. When there's a product that promises to help with our health or with our well-being, we tend to give it a second look to see what it might be able to offer us. And while the fountain of youth and vitality is yet to be found, new age beverages are stepping into the market in the meantime.

What's interesting is that new age beverages don't have special ingredients necessarily in order to appeal to the masses. One of the early trends in new age beverages was actually the bottling of water into individual containers. Consumers were shown that their ordinary tap water just wasn't good enough, clean enough, or pure enough for their drinking habits. People began to carry around these individual containers and sip water frequently. The water bottles became status symbols of good health.

There are numerous producers of this water that emerged. Some waters came from natural springs, while others came from exotic places. And people drank it up. They didn't mind spending an additional dollar on the bottle of water and liked the idea that they were getting their daily recommended water allotment.

But as new water filters were created, people began to think that perhaps they could †̃make' their own bottled water taste at home, so this trend began to decline. That is not to say that many people are not still buying water, but fewer people seem to be as interested in the market. To supplement this trend, market researchers began to look at what was missing from the beverage market.

One of the first things that they saw was that the supplement market was doing well and that maybe there was a way to add these kinds of supplements to the beverages they were selling. Liquid vitamins had been around for a while, but what if they were added to tasty beverages? People loved this idea and thus the new age market really began. People loved the idea that the supplements in these drinks could enhance their metabolism and increase their energy. They craved the idea that a drink could help them focus or help their stamina.

Ingredients like guarana and taurine, caffeine and Echinacea were all added to the drinks, giving each beverage a sort of purpose – which allowed manufacturers to charge a little extra for the drink itself. These drinks could also be flavored with fruit juices and artificial sweeteners, which allowed them to be low in calories, but better tasting than their †̃ordinary' soda.

New age beverages seem to be increasing in choices as well. You can now find these drinks at local gyms and delis in addition to the normal soda selection. However, people love things that are new and different, so these drinks tend to be more popular than ever. And with cool designs and bottles, people love to carry them around and show off their taste in new age beverages.

The Latest New Age DVD Players

A standard CD-Rom could hold only 700 MB of data. Later on CDs with more storage space were manufactured but failed to attract the attention of the buyer. Additional storage space meant an increase of 50 to 60 MB, which was not much considering the data requirement of the end user. So, a new removable storage medium was required to suffice the need of the consumers. DVD technology or Digital Video Disk simply transformed the whole data storage concept. Computers played all forms of DVDs with compatible players but DVD Players played only a selected format.

What is a DVD player? Simply, it is a player or device that is able to play two different standards, DVD video and DVD audio. The player has to be connected to the TV for the display. Some devices come with mini LCD screens, which are there as a smaller counterpart of the TV set.

The new age DVD players succeeded the present breed of DVD media. Blu-ray disk player and HD DVD players are the two trying to capture the consumers with their upgraded quality and high storage space.

DVD players run on the MPEGII standard of video compression. For a standard VCD compression, the CODEC used was MPEGI technology also known as MPEG format. 1 minute of video took 10 MB space. The MPEGII format support a much higher bit rate to give a constant quality for both video and audio.

New age DVD players support more formats like DivX, Xvid and x264. All are compressive technologies giving sharper pictures at lower bit rates. Another compression catching on is the h264 standard also known as MPEG IV part 10 with Advanced Video Coding.

New age DVD players are the ones that are capable of playing the next generation of DVDs. A standard single channel DVD can hold roughly 4.7 GB. However, a DVD can be dual channel or double layered, the storage capacity can be up to 17 GB.

The latest in the technology is the HD DVD brought out by Toshiba. Media Control Gfk International reported that out of the total number of next generation storage medium sold in the year 2007, 27 percent are HD DVD. Therefore, it is obvious the new age DVD players are being sold fast to play these disks. The main problem in creating the next generation standard is availability of two different media, Blu-Ray and HD DVD. Both Sony and Toshiba are trying to make their products the standard for the next generation

This continuous competition of the manufacturers for upgraded DVDs is creating a problem for the new age DVD players. When the format is not finalized, it is not too good a prospect to make a device, so the manufacturers are both looking at the media sale to finalize their next step. Samsung, Sony, LG, Phillips, Sharp and APEX are the popular ones. All the gaming consoles PS2, Xbox, PSP, GBA, PSX and others also support playing DVDs. Sony Play Station 3 is also supporting their latest Blu ray disk.
