Mother

When a mother takes her child for vaccination, when the needle is inserted into body of the child, it troubles the mother first. Even after the child is out from the womb, mother remains connected throughout his / her life. Though the mother shows her feelings by means of touching or looking with love, or speaking, but for that the child need not be nearby. However away from child, mother's good wishes are always with the child.

With this article, I do not ignore what the father does for a child, but I admire what the mother does for a child.

Mother can never be cruel, but child's well-being is always in her heart. For the same she may have to scold, beat the child. But after beating the child, she feels uneasy for the full day. She can never be happy when the child is uncomfortable.

A mother is biological female parent of a child, and raising of the child is mainly dominated by mother. Even the God is in the favour of mother. The God has made structure of body such that only female (in all types of animals, creatures, birds etc.) can give birth to a child and get automatically attached more to the child.

Mother gives everything to child throughout his/her life without any expectation. Now-a-days when parents are sent to old age homes, the Father complains, Mother doesn't.

Even step mother can not be as cruel as is shown in movies. Yashoda and Krishna is the best example.

Mother Love

"The love of awakened motherhood is a love and compassion felt not only towards one's own children, but toward all people, animals and plants, rocks and rivers-a love extended to all beings."
Amachi

Mother love needs to be cultivated for the good of mankind and for the wellbeing of our sacred planet. The potential for this all-embracing maternal consciousness lies within all of us, male and female. Very often, it is when we hold our first child in our arms that the flame of mother love is ignited. Once burning, it cannot be extinguished. Throughout history, women have acted to bring the love and compassion felt for their own children into their community, their country and their world. Passionately expressing a mother's love, they have worked to create a better world for future generations. Their work has left a legacy for us to follow.

To the women who contributed to the inception of Mothers Day, the connection between mother love and the fight for social and economic justice and peace seemed self evident. To Anna Reeves Jarvis, Julia Warde Howe and Anna Reeves, (the daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis), Mothers Day was much more than a recognition of individual mothers. It was an opportunity to use mother love as a powerful force for peacemaking, reconciliation, and community cohesion.

The History of Mothers Day:

Anna Reeves Jarvis

In the 1850's Anna Reeves Jarvis organized Mother Work Day Clubs that focused on providing medicine for the poor and on improving sanitary conditions. Then, during the Civil War, Mothers Day Clubs cared for all soldiers-irregardless of which side of the battle they had chosen. After the war ended, Anna Reeves Jarvis continued her peacemaking by working to bring people together to heal the deep wounds of those who had been divided by the war.

Julia Ward Howe

In the 1870s, Julia Ward Howe began organizing "Mothers Peace Day." After the blood bath of the civil war, she focused on voting rights for women and world peace. When war broke out between France and Prussia, she wrote an impassioned plea to mothers saying, "Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs." At the end she implores, "In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed and held to promote the great and general interest of peace." Following unsuccessful efforts to pull together an international peace conference, and while the Franco Prussian war was still in progress, she began a global appeal to women. She implored women to speak out for peace asking, "Why do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters to prevent the waste of that human life of which they alone bear and know the cost?" For the next thirty years, Americans celebrated Mothers Day for Peace on June 2nd. During this time, mothers played a leading role in the abolitionist movement to end slavery and launched campaigns to protect children and to improve the working conditions of women.

Anna Jarvis

Anna Reeves Jarvis' daughter, Anna Jarvis is generally credited with the establishment of Mother's Day in America. She tirelessly organized a letter writing campaign so that the work that her mother waged for peacemaking would not be forgotten. In 1914, her efforts paid off when Congress passed the Mothers Day resolution, appointing it as a national holiday to be celebrated annually on the second Sunday in May.

Mothers Day Today

Today Mother's Day is a time for honoring and thanking our own mothers for giving us life, raising us and being a source of emotional support and love. It is that rare day to enjoy breakfast in bed, cards, and flowers from our own children and husbands. Mothers Day is an opportunity to celebrate mother love, the life-affirming value that is inherent to us all. And most importantly, Mothers Day provides us an opportunity to put this love into action in the defense of the sacredness of life.

Today, our greatest threat is from an indifference and irreverence for human welfare and the health of our planet. But mother's hearts are not indifferent. Heartbroken by the suffering and death of their own sons or daughters or those of another mother's child as a result of war, women around the world are gathering to fuel the flame of mother love, urging women to speak up, to say no to war and to work for peace. Together, our mother love is powerful.

Organize your own circle of women to fuel the flame of mother love in order to protect our children and the planet.

Help your children to discover and maintain inner peace, compassion and acceptance. Peace starts with each individual. Each child whose heart is filled with inner peace, compassion and acceptance will grow up to become a beacon for peace on Earth.

When we feel what others feel, our understanding will be real
Differences will disappear, loving kindness will be here
Every day, every night, show you care
Every day, every night, say a little prayer

Every day is a holy day
Every night is a holy night

(excerpt from The Christmas Dream, by Patti Teel)

Loving Mother

The three daughters were in the tennis club lounge heavily drinking and lamenting about their crazy ninety year old mother and her sexual promiscuity. They were discussing how she was spending a thousand dollars an evening on male studs supplied by an escort service. It was agreed that in a few more years she would be broke and that there would be nothing left for them to inherit. Their mother had undergone two open heart surgeries and she survived them both. They wished she would die of heart failure.

After she had ruined his reputation by her wanton behavior her third husband had her committed to a mental institution to be treated for Nymphomania. The head psychiatrist diagnosed her as incurable after he found out she was making love to his whole staff and all the patients. It was rumored that he also was one of her lovers. She was released only on the condition that she remains heavily medicated.

Nymphomania is a disorder said to show up in ten percent of women. It is marked by an insatiable desire to have repeated sexual intercourse. Catherine the Great was one of its famous victims. It is said that she made love to every member of the royal guard and some of their stallions. She died when she was kicked to death by a jealous Mare. Most psychiatrists say the disorder is incurable and if possible it should be ignored and allowed to continue. The Courts were full of claims from its victims who demanded that nymphomania should be legally declared a disabling disorder. It was impossible for them to be in a work place without making love to all the employees. The federal government has finally recognized Nymphomania as a disability and has issued monthly checks to its victims.

The three daughters discussed how their mother had ten husbands and had lost them all with her insatiable desire to make love. All ten of her ex- husbands were sex driven men who thought they had found the perfect match. Little did they know what the future had in store for them. None of the marriages lasted more than a year. Four of her husbands developed physical impairments from the sexual demands forced upon them. They limped away from the marriage, never to make love again.

The three daughters were not innocent victims of a sexually disordered mother; they too had their mother’s disorder. Each of them had married many times and chased away their husbands. No man can stay with a woman that is afflicted with Nymphomania for more than a year. But now the desire for money had temporarily subdued their lust. They now planned to get rid of their mother and enjoy their inheritance. After that was done they would take a long vacation in Rome and sample a few thousand Italian lovers.

It is rumored that there is a young and fantastic lover that lives in a villa in Switzerland. He is visited by rich sex crazed women who travel thousands of miles to spend some time with him. His reputation as a great lover is impeccable, and he is always available for the right price. The daughters had an idea; they would send their ninety year old mother to him. He would be instructed to keep her constantly in the bedroom. A bonus would be given to him if his sexual marathon exceeded forty eight hours. Their mother had two open heart surgeries and the encounter was sure to kill her. They put their plan into operation.

He was declared dead by the examining physician, and after careful examination was said to have died from exhaustion. The doctors were surprised that a twenty five year old man in perfect health would die from exhaustion making love to a ninety year old woman. His naked body was then shipped to the morgue.

The daughters were there to greet their mother, as she stepped off the plane after returning from Switzerland. She said that she was having a marvelous time until her lover ran out of steam and died. But she will shortly replace him. The daughters gave up the idea of getting rid of their mother and resumed their endless search for horny men.

Weeping Mother

Satish

Huge crowd surged forward
stones were breaking stones.
lynched, cracked open the skull
of unarmed, lone man,
crushing the sane voice, effacing a wise thought!
Commandor was extracting blood,
killing past and future.
Time was blood
blood was time.
This was extortion, brutal art of living.
A frightened mind grinds to a halt
tears down the curtains.
Eyes unreadable. Rashes are furtively
burning the skin red.
Young generation was sliting the throats
Red ants are crawling on your back
Tomorrow, before sunrise,
no body will wake you up.
Deep in the sands, your
weeping mother will take you,
lull you to sleep in bones.

Mother Earth

Ernie Fitzpatrick Spirituality/mysticism 2008-04-06

Mother Nature or Mother earth is a metaphorical expression for the Earth & its biosphere as the giver & sustainer of life. The Ancient Greek word Gaia was the primal Greek goddess personifying the Earth. Man is coming close to a tipping point wherein we could totally destroy our world unless we make some changes. It won't happen over night; however, there could come a point of no return soon.

Some think the answer lies in the rise of the feminine spirit.

James Enredy, a spiritual guide, has written extensively about this in his book Beyond 2012. He carries on conversations with Earth Spirit Nakawe (Grandmother Growth). I'm not sure I can relate to that nor his conversations with Fire Spirit Tataiwari (Grandfather Fire), but neither am I ready to write it off as fantasy. Let the mythological stories abound! They're the glue that holds us in many ways.

What I do know is that there is an ascendency of the feminine spirit. And there needs to be because of the distinct natures of the masculine and feminine. As foreign as it may sound to some, our earth needs to be nutured back to health and therein comes the Mayan calendar and it's attendent concepts.

There are nine Underworlds in the Maya consciousness. They are called Underworlds, not because of a Mayan concept of Hell, but because of the activated crystalline structures in the earth's inner core. These crystalline structures were not "scientifically" known by the Mayans, but were "sensed" or "intuited" by the spiritual priests and tribal leaders, chief of whom was Kukulcan - better known as Quetzalcoatl in the Aztec culture.

Carl Johan Calleman has written most of the relevant material on this coming age that I know of in his book, The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness. His dating of the Mayan calendar is a bit different and I'm not sure I agree with his end dating but, here's his reasoning.

This doomsday clock may just be the opposite!

The ninth cycle, known as the Universal Underworld, will begin on February 11, 2011 and will end on October 28, 2011, lasting only 260 days. At the end of this final 260-day cycle, the Mayan Calendar simply stops. The original calculated date marking the beginning of the calendar defined the end of the "long count" as December 21, 2012 and that's the date I'm currently giving the msot credence to. Many believe the end of this ninth cycle is also known as the birth of the 6th Sun and the 5th Earth - the beginning of a new 5,125-year cycle.

Regardless of the exact date, they all speak of the ushering in of a strengthening feminine cycle. Mother earth needs that!

O, Mother Earth

O, Mother Earth,
you’re so rich, with butterflies’ songs
and full of olden lullabies,

sung by mountains and valleys
while rivers keep flowing through
the ever-changing seasons of life.

You speak the language
I hardly know,
but your silver touch

sends me a tingle,
that great joy and laughter
bejewel the lake of green.

Your yellow orb scattered
sparkly gems on the blue water
of a mesmerizing sea;

as for your majestic sky,
it wraps, gently, its arm around me
whilst I gaze, at-night, at the stars.

O, Mother Earth,
take me to the fortress,
where kings and queens meet

and teach me...
the graceful dance
of the wind.

Fenstad’s Mother

C. Ozcan Product Reviews/Book Reviews 2007-07-19

In the story, Fenstad’s Mother, by Charles Baxter, characters take our attention to the story and we as readers try to understand them. The characters’ actions and the things they say are controlled by the author, of course, just like everything else in the story is controlled. The author uses the action and dialogue to portray each person in a particular way, to develop personalities. Then, we participate in analyzing and understanding these story characters.

The main character, Harry Fernstad, is a brouchure writer, but he also teaches an extension English composition class at the downtown campus of the state university two nights a week. He doesn’t need the money, but it is stated that he likes teaching strangers and enjoys the sense of hope that classrooms hold for him. He has some students from different jobs; a hairdresser, a garage mechanic, a housewife named Mrs. Nelson, three sanitation workers and a black man, called York Follette. Although Fenstad seems to enjoy spending time with them, it is obvious that he likes to be around people who do not know his inner world. He keeps some kind of a distance with them. He chooses to observe these people, he doesn’t participate in their speech, he only begs for the answers he has asked. He teaches logic, but when he is confronted with questions concerning real life, he can’t answer. He maintains this distance to both life and people.

In the beginnig of the story, we see that Fenstad is very fond of ice-skating. As he’s going to visit his mother he stops and decides to skate a little bit. From the words used to describe the situation, we see that Fenstad also here keeps the distance with his friends. He only waves to his friends, he doesn’t utter any word to them. It seems that his friends are very similar to Fenstad. They like the same things and show the same attitudes towards life. Fenstad never wants to change his rutine way of life.

Fenstad’s mother, Mrs.Clara Fenstad, is an old lady who spent her life in the company of rebels and deviationists. She used to be very active in politics and she stil writes to her congressman and to political dictators around the globe. She is opposite to her son that she loves to be with people and she shares her opinions concerning the ‘real’ world. She starts to attend his son’s logic class. She is very kind to the students and they seem to enjoy spending
time with her. She also likes the atmosphere of the class because she adores people with ideas. That is why she wants to attend the class for the second time. She is a very marginal woman. Her mind is open to new possibilities. She becomes so interested with the man, York Follette, that they instantly become friends. That is because he is a different man .He is African American, he has different political views, he listens to music Mrs.Fenstad is not familiar
with. They both try to understand each other. Mr.Fenstad also knew that his mother would like to meet this man and as the story continues we see that is true. One of the reasons she likes this man is that she does not want people agree with existing theories; she always searches for the ‘new’.

They go to Country Bob’s to have some tea after the lecture. This scene shows us how the mother and his son contrast with each other. A beggar come to their table and asks for some money. Mrs Fenstad pities the woman and wants to give her the coat she is wearing. Fenstad is almost appaled by the audicity of the homeless woman and by his mother’s action. He feels very uncomfortable and offers the woman some Money in order to leave them. This middle-aged man is not as generous as his mother and he thinks of himself first before thinking about the comfort of others. Mr Fenstad seems to be disgusted by the woman: “The woman’s mouth was open, and her stagnant-water breath washed over him”(pg 122).

Fenstad also carries a dilemma in his innerself. It is said that he attends church regularly. But, in the beginning of the story, as he is coming from the church, he is trying to determine if the wine of his breath could be understood by his mother. He conradicts with himself. If he is not doing it for himself , it is possible to think that he lives for the sake of his mother. Her mother is the one who is amused by her son’s churchgoings.

Although these two people contradict with each other in some ways, they have some similarities. They are considerate people. They both care for each other. As Fenstad enters her house, he immediately checks it for any signs of memory loss or depression. He is also so worried about her health after he sees her sitting on a bank in a cold night. He is afraid that she might catch an illness. Mrs.Fenstad also cares for her son’s mental well-being.She asks him some questions about his soul. She feels that his son does not enough time thinking about himself. They both try to understand each other by asking questions.

Fenstad is divorced from Eleanor. He has a girlfriend called Susan. They enjoy spending time with each other because in the story it is said that they go skating some nights. Susan is a very silent girl. She once makes a conversation with the mother; and in that Mrs.Fenstad does not listen her. Clara Fenstad tries to be an active woman in the story. Even she fails in some parts she tries her best and the end of the story is a proof of that. Contrary to Mrs. Fenstad, Susan shows no course of action. Fenstad’s choice of such a girl shows that he wants someone different from his mother.

As we understand from the title of the story, Clare Fenstad is always referred as “Fernstad’s mother”. The author and also Fenstad himself do not refer to her using the name Clara. It’s only once that Fenstad introduced his mother to the class using her first name “Clara”. It is again here a man introducing a woman. She’s not given a voice here. It’s not Mrs. Clara Fenstad here who tells the class her name. It’s the same when she wants to give her coat to the beggar. She says “Take it before my son stops me.” (pg. 122) This sentence shows us that in a way she’s dependent on her son. Nevertheless, her going to the bathroom shows us a sign of her rebellious side. She doesn’t want tos tay there anymore. She wants to leave her son alone. This kind of rebellion reminds me the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. Nora, the major character of the play is a voiceless woman. She is always referred as “little, bird, doll”. She has no right to decide on her own. She behaves according to expectations of her husband. Her husband needs her to be a good wife for him. On the other hand, Nora needs him for protection. As the play contiunes Nora starts realize her self identity. In the end she becomes aware of her oppression and decides to leave her husband declaring that she must “make sense of [her]self and everything around her” she walks out and slams the door behind her. When we go back to our story, we will find Clara Fenstad listening to jazz music with this black man, York Follette, in her own house..When her son sees them together, she declares being alone for so many years as her unique problem. Here, she does not behave according to her son’s expectations. She does something for her own and she enjoys it. Moreover, her broadly speaking about politics, writing letters to congressman, spending her life in the company of rebels are proofs to her rebellious side. She is always open to new things and she prefers people with ‘new’ ideas.

As the story continues we see both good and bad sides of these characters.Charles Baxter has developed them so that we see several sides of their natures. Fenstad and his ‘mother’ work well together . While I was studying on my essay, these contrasts helped me to develop my ideas about their characters.

Mother''s Day

Mother’s Day is almost here. This is the time when we take a moment to really appreciate our Mothers. We do love them but how often do we honor and show them with special tokens that we really care.

We could never repay our Mothers for all they have sacrificed for us. My Mother is priceless. Many people will be sad on Mother’s day, but remember that she lives on in our hearts.

Usually on Mother’s Day, there is a barbecue at our house for all the Mothers in our family. Some Mother’s appreciate gifts while others are contented with being feted on Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days in other countries depending on the origination of Mother’s Day. Originally, the US copied the UK where Mother’s Day was a call to unite Mother’s against war. Now they are totally different in that the US celebrate Mother’s day on the second Sunday in May and is an occasion to celebrate Mothers and Motherhood. In the UK, Mother’s Day is related to the Church. The Mother Church is visited by all and is a means for Children and their Mother to unite.

Mother’s Day has now been copied from the US by several other nations. It now represents a Day where we celebrate with our Mothers by taking them out to restaurants, sending them flowers, buying them special gifts or, like us, just having them over for a barbecue.

My Mother (poetry)

"Mother"

Mother, is that you? Reflections in my looking-glass kindness shows, those eyes of blue

Would it not be a splen-diferous debut if possibly, you would return, a young lass Mother, is that you?

Your presence, my imaged view appears beautiful, rather serene, with class kindness shows, those eyes of blue

Artistic, musical, a crowd you drew "By ear" the piano keys lightly stroked - none surpassed Mother, is that you?

Tho' this meeting, long overdue "Shuffle-off-to-Buffalo" yet lingers the air with sound of brass Kindness shows, those eyes of blue

Into the mirror I continue, pursue hope -on-hope the icon will speak, as visions pass Mother is that you? Kindness shows, those eyes of blue

In the market one can find gift hampers, gift baskets and gifts for all occasions. However, since mother's day is a special occasion, gifts have to be special as well. Mothers appreciate even the slightest effort of love by their children. They will be immensely happy with just a single flower given to them. But every child knows that his mother deserves a lot more. So children think of marvelous gifts to show their gesture.

In the Internet world of today, when everything is available at the click of the mouse, unique mother's day gift ideas are also just a click away. There are many sites available online that provides great information on mother's day including the gift ideas. One can look into these websites for gathering wonderful gift ideas or can think of the ideas themselves. Gift hampers and gift baskets are passé now as they are common, but if you are not able to think of something else then you can go for these. If there is something you know that your mother always wanted then gifting her the same thing on mother's day would be just an ideal gift. She will remember this day always and also cherish your love for her.

Your gestures speak your love for someone. On the mother's day, give expression to your love by the fine gesture of gifting and treasure the precious smile on your mother's face, forever.

Mother Of Pearl

Mother of pearls and ownership of one or several pearl farms has found a lucrative market in the public. Pearls are usually used in creating necklaces, rings, bracelets and even in the creation of various sets of jewelry. It has become a status symbol not just to the rich but also to people from all walks of life so much that the market for fake reproductions of the mother of pearl has found its own patronage. With its increasing popularity, it is bound to create questions to interested investors such that a lot of people have become intrigued on how it is made or created by nature.

How it is formed

Mother of pearl is also known as nacre. It is a composite of both organic and inorganic chemicals created by nature. The chemical make-up of this composite is hexagonal platelets of aragonite. The dimension of this platelet is 10-20 micrometers with a thickness of 0.5 micrometer. In between the layers of these platelets is a thin organic matrix made up of elastic biopolymers. This unique combination makes the mother of pearls resilient and strong. When this combination is multiplied, meaning the dimensions of the composite grows bigger, the toughness increases as well.

Mother of pearls are created by the mollusk species from their epithelial cells from the mantle tissue. Over time, the mollusks continually deposit layers on the inner surface of the shell. This action presents two purposes. One, as defense against parasites which could damage the detritus and two, it smoothens the shell of the mollusk itself.

The process of encystation occurs when the mollusks get invaded by a parasitic organism or in cases when they are invaded by a foreign object which the mollusk cannot spew out. What happens is that the parasite or foreign object gets enclosed in the layers of the mother of pearl that the mollusk continually deposits. This continuous process of depositing several layers eventually creates the pearls that are marketed by jewelers to the public. Until the mother of pearl is taken from the mollusk, the pearl continues to grow bigger.

The inner layer is unique because of its iridescence. A characteristic that jewelers and the public alike find very attractive. The same characteristic is primarily due to the thickness of the platelets comparable in size to the visible light s wavelength, which translates to about 0.5 micrometers. This produces a play of light due to the different wavelengths which occurs when light is allowed to pass through it from different angles.

Major sources of mother of pearl finds come from the freshwater mussels. This species normally live in the waters of Asia, Europe and the United States. The same mother of pearls can also be seen in pearl oysters of warm tropical waters as well as the abalone of the Japan, California and the Pacific.

Natural mother of pearls are sources of pride and joy to collectors of these items. Knowing that nature takes time to create them in such a unique slow process has added more depth to its beauty and rarity.

Spoil Your Mother

Syahrul Azlan Idris Home Family/Home Family 2007-03-28

I mean it. Why not spoil your mother on Mother’s Day? It’s the one day of the day when you can have the chance to really get all out and make her day special, so why don’t you? Make your mom feel like she’s the most wonderful person in the world – which, by the way, she is – by taking care of her and pampering her with all the nicest things you can buy and do for her. After all, she took good care of you ever since you were a little baby, so it shouldn’t take too much of an effort for you to show your love and appreciation for everything that she’s done for you.

Sometimes I can’t help but wonder though – it’s really very nice that we set aside a special day to honour and pay tribute to all mothers, but do we have to wait until Mother’s Day to show our moms how special she is to us? In fact, I have constantly made this mistake in the past of not telling her how important she is to me and to my life, until it was too late. And until now, I keep thinking – if I had only known how it felt to lose someone who cares deeply about me without ever asking for anything in return, I would’ve changed a lot of things. One of my deepest regrets is that I lost my mother at a time when I couldn’t do anything special for her – I couldn’t afford to buy her gifts, I couldn’t afford to take her out to dinner, and I even couldn’t tell her how much I loved her.

We never really stop to think about all the hard work that our mothers – or all mothers in the world – have to go through to take care of us. I personally believe that there is not a single person in the whole world that can do a better job of taking care of me, educating me, and helping me become a better person other than my mother. Sometimes we forget how much our mothers have sacrificed and suffered for their families; a lot of times we just take her for granted. We take it for granted that there will be breakfast when we wake up, that there will be clean clothes in our closets, and that there will be a helping hand and a listening ear whenever we feel like talking to someone who cares.

Mothers don’t have it easy. They are put in charge of a lot of things that frequently go out of control. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a nurse, doctor, dietician, business manager, financial consultant, painter, graphic artist, plumber, electrician, carpenter, and driver all at the same time? Mothers know. And they’re on the job 365 days a year, 24/7. Which is more than I can say for all the corporate executives and politicians in the world. What’s more, all they really want in return for all their hard work is your love. A simple thank you, a hug, a kiss on the cheek – this can be your mom’s salary.

This Mother’s Day, take the time off and do the best you can to make this day a very special one for your mom. Be aware and mindful of what she likes and do everything you can to give it to her. Is there a movie that she’s been dying to see? Take her out to see it; don’t just rent the video. Buy her a bottle of Dom Perignon, instead of that ordinary table wine you can get at your local supermarket. Buy her a copy of her favourite book and have it signed by the author if possible. Get the idea?

We’ve already set aside a special day each year for mothers; now’s the time to take advantage of that. And always remember: no matter how much we spend, what really counts in the end is the sentiment and the thought that embodies Mother’s Day. So go ahead and spoil your mother. It’s the least you can do, and she deserves every minute of it.

GMS: Guilty Mother Syndrome

Cheri Alguire Home Family/Parenting 2007-06-21
View Detail
A lesser known condition related to parenting, Guilty Mother Syndrome commonly arises the minute that you hear you’re pregnant. Everything from what you eat while you are pregnant to the way you sleep at night may cause you guilt. But if you think that’s bad, wait until your baby is born and you try to start balancing work with your new family! Guilty Mother Syndrome can be a real predicament for almost every mother who works, and the problem can be particularly prominent for women who run their own businesses and do it all on their own.

What is Guilt, anyway? According to Mirriam-Webster, guilt is defined as “feelings of culpability especially for imagined offenses or from a sense of inadequacy.” If you feel guilty for not being there enough for your children, according to the actual definition, then you are imagining that you are committing an offense to them. In actuality, you are creating this guilt from your imagination! Since you have created it, you can also remove and prevent this guilt. So how do you take action against creating this guilt?

The main cause of guilt for us working moms is that we cannot be everywhere at once, making ourselves feel bad for not being available for our children 24-7. Of course you want to be with your children all of the time; you want to be where they are, and see what they are doing and constantly be a part of their life. But the reality is that you have a business to run as well, and you cannot be everywhere at the same time.

To prevent yourself from feeling guilty every time you have to go to work, take a new perspective on the times that you have to leave your child. Rather than imagining how sad he/she is, look at this as another lesson that you can teach your child about responsibility, independence, business, and work-ethic. Your child will eventually appreciate these lifelong lessons and put them into practice later on. Although you can teach good lessons through being a working mother, make sure that you schedule quality time with your children. Try to attend and be involved in all of their important events, concerts, doctor’s appointments and other special moments. If you are particularly busy, be sure that the time you spend with your family is quality time, not just hanging out in front of the television.

Your business is important to you, and you need to work for your family, however don’t forget to keep the balance, and you will be able to keep your Working Mother Syndrome under control, giving you the freedom to enjoy the best of both worlds.

A great real-mom guide for balancing work and motherhood is The Business Mom Guide Book: More Life, Less Overwhelm for Mom Entrepreneurs by Terilee Harrison. All mom entrepreneurs know it's a challenge to raise their family and run a business, but hardly anyone talks about how they get it done. Instead of continuing to live in overwhelm, Terilee Harrison decided to bring the insights, tips, failures, and successes from mom business owners that are getting it done so that we can all help each other. These courageous moms all shared their stories - what works for them as they run their business, little things they try to do to be the best mom possible, and how they still find time for themselves.

Mother Should not Turn a Mother in Law

Dalip Singh Wasan Home Family/Home Family 2007-11-10
View Detail

Mother should not turn a mother in law.
Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

A mother should remain a mother and should not turn a mother in law. The designation and status of mother in law is artificial one and such a woman actually forgets that she is mother of the house and if a new person has come in the house, he or she is her son or her daughter. It is just an addition in the house and the person who has joined here has come with an intention that he or she would remain in this house or shall remain connected with this house and he or she know what is the status allotted to him and her and he or she must abide by this relation and designation.
As far as India is concerned, her the brides who are joining the house with their husbands are facing so many difficulties and so many problems. The people who are already present in the house are not allowing this new comer full opportunity to join and become a member of this family. They are keeping her apart from the other members of the house and often she is not allowed to listen to the important maters of the house. She is kept like a stranger in the house and the people start concealing so many things and matters from this new comer. They do not realize that this girl who has come here to join this house permanently had been a daughter in a house where all the peop[le were loving her, all the people were having faith in her, all the people were considering her as the most responsible person in the house and they were giving her so many important works, she is the girl which had been doing so may works at the house of her parents and in most of the decisions, the people in the house were having her decisions and what she said, those decisions were accepted as good. The people in this new house never realized that she would not be able to face all these separations all of sudden and she would break her heart. All these new happenings in his new house are shocking and that is the reason, she starts realizing that she is not being taken here as a regular member of the house. And such things happen in the house, we must say that the mother of the house is responsible for all these discriminations in this house. It is her duty to see that all are accepting the new comer as a member of the house and she must lead in this direction. She should accept this new comer with love and affection and she should be disclosed all the things of the house and she must be allowed to become a full-fledged member of this house.
In most of the cases this mother in law feels that this new comer shall be taking her place and she would be losing all the authority and command in the house. This is the normal course of life and the mother in law must accept this course of life. She must recall those days when she had joined this house and what was happening with her during those days, she was not tolerating and was not accepting all those behaviours from the other side. An she had to struggle for the achievement of the present goal. She should not put her daughter in alw in the same examination and it would be better, she herself prepare this new comer and train her to have the command of the house because if she is taking the command, this old lady shall be having some relief in life. She had been running the house for the last so many years and now she has already a tired person. Old orders must change and yield place to new one and if she recall the days when she was finding our a girl for her son and she was telling each one that she has grown old and now she wants a woman who can take over the charge from her and when this girl has been found and she has joined the house, this old lady must hand over the charge to her without any objection.
The mother of the house must understand that it is her duty to keep the house joint and sound and therefore, she must give good treatment to this new comer because if this new comer is not given due welcome, she would try to prepare her husband to leave this house, because she has not married only to suffer here in this new family. She married so that she should establish a house to which she could call her own house and where she shall have a final say. This psychology of the bride must be understood and must be allowed to flourish because this old lady has also got her daughters and she is desiring that her daughters should have command in the new house. If she is demanding command for her daughters, then she must give this position to the bride which has joined in her house. It is very easy and must be transferred without any hitch. The new comer shall be hesitating to take up all these commands, because she shall be telling the mother that she has got no experience and therefore, the mother should continue with these commands in the house as hither to and at the same time, the old lady must take this new comer as her own daughter and must look into the difficulties which this new comer is facing in the new house. If the mother becomes the mother of this new comer and starts helping her in adjusting herself in the new circumstances, she shall be liked by the new comer and there are no chances of troubles in the house because this new comer has come here to join the house.
A mother may turn a mother in law, as per traditions, but at all the times she should bear the character of a mother and if she remains a mother, then this new comer shall also start taking her as her own mother and there shall be no trouble in the house. If the mother in law turns a mother, then no parent shall be killing a daughter before her birth, no daughter in law shall be burnt, no daughter in law shall be committing suicide and there shall be no dispute of dowry and on dowry items. We have already suffered much and let this old lady may change her character and she is the main cause of all the troubles in the house and also in the society. If daughters in law are being killed, the mother in law is responsible and if they are committing suicide, even then the mother in law is responsible and she is also responsible for shortening number of girls in some of the areas. The mother is always for giving birth and for bringing up children and when people are not allowed entries in this world, are being killed or are being compelled to commit suicide, the mother should curse herself and must start amending her way of life. She is the mother and a mother should never change her character.

Mother''s Day: Remember Mother''s a Homemaker

Dorothy Smith Society/Relationships 2008-04-15

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.”
Cardinal Mermillod

The crux of feminist theory is the concept of the family. The family is the building block of the society and social scientists over the ages have designated the role of holding this unit together on women. This has not gone down well with the fighters of women’s rights. They have objected strongly to this as derogatory to the independence of the woman. They have also stressed on the necessary of economic independence for the woman to raise her voice against male oppression. In the modern age, women have been able to throw off the shackles to a large extent. However, if a woman herself chooses to stay at home and raise a family?

Female students have a general tendency to work after they complete their education. If someone chooses a family life within the confines of a home, her peers may take it to be a rather timid and obsolete choice. I feel it’s the choice of the individual that matters. If she chooses to be a wife and mother at home, we cannot jeer at her decision. Nor must we feel that she lacks in ability to go out there and rub shoulders with the competitive, inconsiderate world.

A mother staying at home has to take stock of a lot of things. She makes sure that the family wheel stays well lubricated. She helps her husband and children go out for work or education. She keeps them well fed. She takes care of their things and makes sure they are there at hand when needed. She takes care of the bills and other expenditures. She takes care of the finances and plans her savings according to the income of the household. So she does everything that an office manager would be doing. The difference is tat she is doing it on a microcosmic scale, but that does not talk lowly of her efficiency.

There lies another difference too. She does it out of love. The problem arises if her family does not appreciate that love and caring. That is where feminists who are against women staying at home have a problem. The lack of economic independence does compromise her position. Mothers have it particularly difficult if the father is not responsible to the children. Many mothers stay put at home in a loveless marriage for the sake of their children just because they do not have the means to step out of the threshold of stability and security. She has to bear the consequences of not earning a living.

It is very difficult to conclude which path is the best for a mother. It depends on individual calling. Homemakers need not be totally devoid of earnings today. They can do a lot of free lancing work from home which will take care of their expenditures, even if their first priority is the family. What we can do is to empathize with our mothers who are homemakers as they deserve all the appreciation that you can possibly assimilate. What we can also do is respect the sacrifice of love that they have undergone to make us have a better life.

Saint Mother Theresa of Calcutta

Karen Cole Peralta News Society/politics 2007-12-09

Karen

She is a heroine and a saint to many, not just the Catholic Church.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” ~ Mother Teresa

"Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty." ~ Mother Teresa

“The less you have, the freer you are. The rich are sometimes poorer than the poor; they’re lonelier inside. They always need something more. The hunger for love, you see, is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.” ~ Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa, with the help of public donations, opened villages on the outskirts of the city of Calcutta. Lepers could be treated, stay away from uninfected relatives, and live in cleanliness and dignity there.

Being unafraid of leprosy, disease and death, Mother Theresa was often photographed nearby, holding hands with, or hugging the lepers. She made close personal friends out of these dying but charming people.

Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity and the Brotherhood of Charity helped the poorest of the poor. Mother Teresa believed being poor herself was the best method for helping the poor, and so the Missionaries and the Brotherhood refused all luxuries, including eating out.

Even with the many donations and awards they received, they refused to use this money for themselves, and gave much to the poor. They not only opened missions, hospitals, and hospices, but they also used this money to feed them. Some also required medicine, which they readily supplied. Mother Theresa was everywhere, trying her best to serve others.

As she grew older, she resigned as mother general of the Missionaries of Charity, shortly after dying in a mother house on September 5th, 1996.

Loving Mother And Motherly Affection

Shweeta Bhandari Society/Relationships 2007-11-27
View Detail

In life, we generally come across various forms of relationships like Father-son, husband-wife, love, friendship etc but the most dearest and hearty relation of all is of a mother and her child relationship. The bond of mother and child is purest and holy. Mother is next to GOD. She is the Gem who knows everything. A warm and affectionate touch of mother will give you immense pleasure and you will feel as you are in heaven.

The relationship of a mother and a child carries deep emotions and feelings within it and it is always nurtured by love, affection and care. Mother is the one who gives birth to the child, bought him up, support him when he need someone the most, guide him in taking right decisions, stand against crowd and favors his child if he is right, always stands behind her in his thick and thin, biggest sharer, suffer a lot of pain from the time of birth of a child till he become adult but never expect anything in return. Whenever you feel sad and tensed, she will embrace you and all your worries will come to an end.

The most respectful and adorable person on this earth is Mother Even if you will fight with her, argue with her, pour you anger on her; she will forgive you for everything with a gentle smile on her face and without thinking for a second. Is there any relationship better than this relation where there is no ego, no fears, no hard feelings, just the feeling of love and affection? In today s generation people get so much busy in their lives that they hardly find time for their mother, they don t even remember the things she has done for them to make their life smooth and comfortable. A person should always remember the efforts made by the mother for his betterment and should give utmost respect and care to his mother, as she really deserves it. He should let her mother know what she mean to him and she will be the most happiest person on this whole world.
