Gino Green Global, the shirt that taken over the hip world and even the entertainment world, that strange shirt that has a lot of “9’s”, or is it “G’s”? Anyway, Gino Green Global grown so big that it has taken over nations, Gino Green Global grew globally! Actually Gino Green Global didn’t start with the word “Global” before; Gino Green Global was first called Gino Green Apparel and was founded by a Designer named Prince Mayol. His first designs of Gino Green Apparel hit stores across NYC on the year of 1999, Gino Green Global quickly caught the eye’s of people whom want their styles to be artistic and creative, and wanted to start a new age of trends in fashion throughout NYC, is it because of those “9’s” that made it unique? Well, actually, those “9’s” aren’t really “9’s”, but “G’s”, it’s a fashion thing they say. Anyway, it grew so big that many celebrities or entertainers wanted to join in, many of these shirts appeared on tournaments, such as the Dyckman Summer League. Many players, such as basketball, included Gino Green Global shirts on their fashion line. It’s because of these that made Gino Green Apparel to be recognized worldwide, so on the year of 2004, Prince came to an idea to change its name from Gino Green Apparel to Gino Green Global, so it can fit perfectly on its “G” logo.

Gino Green Global globalization made way for new designs, from a mere T-shirt and Hoods, Gino Green Global expanded their collection from polo, jeans and leather jackets, to women shirts that made them feel real and sexy, stylish yet artistic.

Barley Green

Barley green is the new super food. It's loaded with vitamins, minerals, and live enzymes.

When choosing a barley green product, look for one that is freeze-dried. Heat destroys the enzymes in barley green. So ingesting a heat-processed barley green product would be like eating cardboard - it wouldn't hurt you, but it sure wouldn't do you much good.

Barley green usually comes in two different forms - tablets and powder. Tablets are easy to swallow and are great for people on the go.

Barley green powder requires a bit more work, as you have to mix it with juice in order to consume it. But it has the added benefit of faster uptake by the stomach. And, once you've built up the alkalinity in your body, barley green will taste really good.

When buying a barley green product, find one that's 100% barley green. Some companies dilute their barley green products with fillers like kelp or seaweed. Barley green is extremely nutrient dense and doesn't need any other ingredients mixed with it. Thus, the only reason to mix another green product with it is because these other products are a lot cheaper and save the manufacturer money.

Expect to pay between $40 and $60 for a 10 oz bottle of barley green powder. And $30 - $60 for a bottle of barley green tablets.

A lot of nutritional supplement companies make barley green today and you should be able to find a good one by searching the web. MorterSupplements.com has a barley green product called Alka Green which meets the requirements listed here (http://mortersupplements.com/alkagreen1.html). For other products, do a web search for them.

In conclusion, barley green is a great all-around nutritional tool. It provides numerous vitamins, minerals, and live enzymes to your thirsty cells. Consider picking up a bottle today.

Green Tea

Since ancient times, green tea was a highly prized beverage in the Orient. There are even elaborate tea-drinking ceremonies held in the Orient and especially in Japan. At first, it was a seasonal drink and as such, quite expensive. This is because green tea is harvested from the tealeaves and buds that can only be obtained in the spring when the tea bush is putting out new growth.

Now green tea is becoming immensely popular in the West, and because of increased demand, green tea is now being grown in different parts of the world, like Australia. This means it is available year round, instead of just in one season due to different regions. Because of this, prices have become more reasonable and available to everyone. Now green tea is common and in high demand. You can find it in the grocery stores and even in different flavors to mask the slightly bitter taste that is part of the flavor.

So how can green tea help you?

Of course it is a distinctly refreshing drink, letting you relax and unwind after a hard day s work, or as a pick me up during the day. However added to this, it also has antitoxins, helps burn calories, and boosts your immune system.

Antitoxins are good for protecting the body against toxins and poisons that can enter the body from the air, water, or food we eat. It will also protect against free radicals, which are made by the liver when metabolism takes place. These free radicals can harm the body and also age your cells.

It is a good beverage to drink when dieting as it has little or no calories and can even act as an appetite suppressant by filling you up. Green tea can also help you to burn calories.

Green tea has flavonoids, which act as antitoxins. They also will help your immune system to ward of disease and ailments. Green tea also has catechin polyphenols especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful antioxidant. Green tea is also thought to help the body fight cancer and prevent blood clots. Research is still being done to understand more about the benefits of green tea.

So on those hot thirsty days, do not just reach for a soda, try a refreshing glass of iced green tea and really feel the difference. Or, do not even wait for summer and just relax anytime with a cup of green tea. It takes about 3-4 cups per day to get the maximum benefits from green tea.

GREEN POND

Caked blood
on striated muscles,
you worshipped the seeds.

The lion roars
stirs the sleeping peacocks.
Pale skin becomes red.

Green and yellow mess of a matrix :
searching for an answer,
you scramble on the bed.

Take my sin, you said –
the penile god was not with me,
capricious as he was.

Community service for a condemned man,
let me take a plunge.
not for the body.

The glass house, mirrors on the ponds,
every wall has a door
leading nowhere.

Remaining a virgin for life
you are learning to swim
in a green pond.

Green Things

What is at the very center of the rainbow? What color is lacking in cities? What color is the heart chakra? Green. What do most people die of? Heart disease. Green foods are extremely important for our overall well-being. They keep us centered. Their high alkaline-mineral content keeps us calm.

If we lived in Nature, eating 100% wild foods as 100% of our ancestors did just a few thousand years ago (before agriculture), we would find that green leaves would be a big part of our diet. Why? Because that is what is out there in the world. Visit any forest, farm, park, or orchard, and you will find that the predominate food available is wild green-leafy foods.

All frugivorous primates eat green-leafy vegetables. Orangutans, chimps, and gorillas eat grass, leaves, stems, among other foods. They eat these foods in their wild state. Humans are the weakest primate (pound per pound) because humans eat cooked food and agricultural food. Imagine what would happen to a tribe of gorillas fed on donuts and coffee for several generations. If we ate wild raw food we would find that we would become strong like wild animals.

In December 1930, the press reported the incident of a young human infant who had been kidnapped by a baboon. For 13 years thereafter, the young boy was raised among the baboons. At age 14, he was captured by a hunter and returned to his mother. It was soon noted that he was "tremendously powerful" being able to use a 14 pound sledgehammer in the blacksmith shop and turning a heavy lathe all day without the slightest trace of fatigue. His mother was never able to make him eat cooked food.

In March 1935, a young girl was found living in the Carpathian Mountains (in Europe). She was captured in a remote district where wild boars, wolves, and bears lived. When captured she put up a great fight against several lumbermen and exhibited "superhuman strength." She refused all food except for flowers, plants, and grass. These are exciting stories which reveal the tremendous power in wild foods and wild living.

We begin to incorporate wild green foods in our diet by first educating ourselves about them. I personally enjoyed the book "Wild Edible Plants: A North American Field Guide" so much that we (Nature's First Law) now distribute it to health-food stores and all those interested in wild foods. I have found tremendous value in that book, because it has color pictures which make identification easy.

Once you can identify wild edible foods, then introduce them slowly, but surely, into your diet. Include them with salads, blend them with smoothies, eat them plain.

I personally enjoy wild dandelion (a true superfood), malva, lamb's quarters, green onions, nettles, mustard, wintercress, celery, and watercress. The strengthening power of these foods is fairly obvious after including them in your diet for several months.

You can allow wild green foods to grow wildly in your garden or you can forage for them. Avoid picking wild foods near water sources in large towns and cities as they could be contaminated.

Wild green foods seem to be a big part of the answer. Wild foods will always pick up every mineral available, and thus, they help prevent mineral deficiencies. Wild green foods definitely reintegrate you to the Earth as they identify for your body exactly where you are on the planet. Additionally, eating wild food is fun!

Going Green

J Tillotson Reference Education/Environmental 2007-11-15

Ever wondered what the world would be like without electricity, gas, water on tap and heat? Sounds like a nightmare, the stuff of Hollywood, right? Wrong. It is a world we could be facing in the not-too-distant future, if we don't do something about it.

So what can we do? How do we avoid this scary scenario?

One alternative that is becoming more and more popular is so-called “green” energy, using renewable resources and harnessing them to provide us with the home comforts we've come to depend on as a species.

There are four basic types of renewable, or “green”, energy:

Solar - using energy from the sun and converting it to heat and electricity. We have all seen solar panels doing this wonderful job, but probably never thought you could get one yourself. Well, now you can.

Wind - No shortage of this resource in the UK! It's a good thing too, because wind energy provides a clean source of power with no nasty emissions into our precious atmosphere.

Hydroelectric/water - Using another limitless resource (essentially what green energy is all about), hydro-energy converts stored energy in water into kinetic energy to power turbines.

Biomass - Essentially, this uses natural and waste products to produce heat. Think of the old-fashioned wood-burning heating systems and you have the general idea. Of course, there is much more to it than just burning wood. Practically any biodegradable material can be used.

And that’s the basic idea behind green energy. So where to start? As well as the simplest ways of recycling your rubbish, and growing your own vegetables, you could switch to an energy-efficient supplier of your utilities.

More and more gas and electricity companies are waking up to the benefits of going green and offering a green tariff in addition to their regular services. Generally this takes the form of generating an equal amount of green energy for every unit of fossil fuel consumed. But there is also the option of paying a little extra into your supplier to be invested into renewable energy systems.

Remember: we only have one planet. Help to look after it!

Go Green!

No I’m not cheering for a sports team even though my high school colors were green and white. I am talking about green design. What is green design, you ask? Well it is when you use all natural products and products that reduce energy use in your home.

It is very easy to go green as we in the design industry like to say. One of the easiest ways to start is by replacing your appliances with energy star ones. Yes this can be expensive, but for most people it will not change there habits too much, but it will save you money in the long run and help the environment at the same time.

What else can you do to go green? Well if your thinking about putting in hardwood floors opt for bamboo flooring as bamboo is a strong wood that is great for flooring, but it’s also considered a weed, and grows very quickly, bamboo can be harvested after only 2 years, so it is considered a renewable resource.

Another way to go green and save you money is to replace all of your light bulbs with the new florescent ones. This can save you so much per year that you can get your money back in less then 2 years, and they last up to 7 years, much better then those other light bulbs.

The last thing I am going to talk about is windows, are your windows drafty and let out that warm air in the winter and cool air in the summer? Well if your thinking about replacing them go for the energy star windows, they insulate and keep all the air you want to stay in your home in, and the air you don’t want out. They also will cut down on your heating bill and help the environment at the same time.

There are many other ways to go green, so start with these and find some more, good luck!

Green Painting

Green painting - better health for you, the painter, and the environment:

Because all synthetic materials gas off, many paints, although dry to touch within an hour or so, will continue to gas of on a molecular level, more or less indefinitely, and certainly for days, or weeks, on a level that is not preferable for those who have to live with it. Alternatively, there are now “zero-emission” paints (no VOCs – or volatile organic compounds) on the market. Where feasible (90% of cases), an environmentally conscious painter uses these alternative products for interior applications. This development is especially beneficial for anyone in your household/workplace who may suffer from environmental effects (perhaps all of us, on some level). Australia’s Green Island was first sighted by Lt James Cook on the 10th of June in the year 1770 - and it is said he named it after Charles Green., the Chief Observer and Astronomer on his ship (HMS Endeavour).

Located in the scenic beauty of the Great Barrier Reef marine park, Green Island is the epitome of beautiful land you’ve likely been dreaming about visiting for a long time.

It is ideally located 27 km from Cairns and the relaxing boat ride of approximately an hour (quicker by fast catamaran) is just the beginning of your wonderful vacation.

Green Island is a much sought after tourist destination in Australia, even Queen Elizabeth II had included this lovely destination as part of her Royal Australian Tour in 1970. Green Island is home to a number of tourists both domestic and international all year round.

Green Island is the ideal place if you do not have any specific agenda for your vacation (which we Australians term as ‘veging out’ – as in acting like a vegetable !) - and just want to spend a relaxed holiday close to Mother Nature.

You can go on the long Rainforest walks, make a visit to the Underwater Observatory (which is the World’s First Underwater observatory by the way) or maybe a tour on the Glass bottom boat watching the lovely marine flora and fauna could be the connection with nature that you’ve been so looking forward to.

Do not despair, for the adventurous among you we have a lot in store as well. Right from windsurfing, beach volleyball, to parasailing and diving, Green Island has it all. This is going to be your fun-filled vacation and likely beyond comparison. You can enjoy all the adventure activities right here in the lap of nature.

Green Island has the distinction of having a lot of the natural flora still remarkably well protected and preserved. The resort is built in such a way that disturbance to nature has been kept to the minimum. Green Island has an envious variety of flora and fauna which makes it the ideal spot for all nature lovers. It is a lovely place to see on foot and enjoy nature’s beauty at its best. Spreading over an area of about 15 hectares it will only take a person of average fitness about 45 minutes to an hour to go around on foot.

Come back after your rendezvous with nature and refresh yourself in the lovely luxurious resort. The hospitality and the service is some of the best available and you may well feel like royalty on this holiday. Whether it is a fun filled vacation with family or a business trip that you are on, its hard not to enjoy the beauty of the place and have a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

The Island provides a wide variety of cuisine to suit every palate and is sure to leave you talking about tropical cuisine for a long time to come. Visit and enjoy Green Island with friends and family and it is sure to leave you looking forward to your next holiday here, right on the doorstep of the World Heritage site of the Great Barrier Reef.

It is likely while in the Cairns Region you want to example much more than a single island, in a region that offers such a wealth of travel experiences. Most seasoned travellers to the region will recommend setting up a ‘home base’ in the City of Cairns, because it is an ideal central location from which to be collected by the huge number of quality day tours available. Experience the rainforest, SkyRail, Great Barrier Reef, white water rafting, hot air ballooning – the list is endless. Consider the apartment accommodation at Reef Palms, centrally located with most of the best day tours picking up right from the front door or very nearby. This allows you the opportunity to relax in space and privacy on return home from your day trips – which will be much appreciated because most day tours offer a ‘full day’ indeed !

Green Wedding

How do you feel about the environment and living green? Why not have an all-natural, eco-friendly wedding! Green weddings are actually some of the most beautiful weddings around, not only is having a Green Wedding is great for the environment but the wedding is very unique from all the others. When planning a Green Wedding there are three things to keep in mind; Reduce, reuse and recycle! It s just natural for it to be stylish.

Obviously when it comes to the food, it will be organic or fair trade. That s just a given. Try even serving berry pies with organic berries rather than a wedding cake. A great drink to serve is biodynamically farmed wines. Also, donating left overs is very popular because you are not letting any food go to waste. A great idea for invitations is to use recycled materials or even email. It still get the job done, but in an environmentally friendly way. There are several materials that can be used for confetti. The first is biodegradable confetti also known as ecofetti or flower pedals which is actually very traditional itself. When it comes to kitchenware, use eco-friendly products. You can even use compostable cutlery. It s made from non GMO corn starch and can literally be thrown into your home compost pile. The wardrobe in the wedding is always very difficult to decide on. In a green wedding, clothes should be rented so they keep on being re-used. If you know you are going to wear the outfit more than once, then it is safe to buy it because it will not go to waste. Or you can look for Hemp gowns or clothes made with organic cotton. Many women are interested to recycle their wedding dress. You can visit nearlynewbridal.com to buy or sell used wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, tuxedos, flower girl dresses, etc. Hold the wedding ceremony locally.

You will spend less on traveling and also save on gas. Car pooling is a great idea; this saves a huge amount on gas, especially if you re planning a large wedding. This will keep for a healthier environment and will reduce the amount of pollution being put into the air. At the dinner table, rather than using regular paper napkins use rice paper napkins. When it comes to decorating, hemp draping should be included. Now listen to this, a new product has come to the market in candles. In your green wedding be sure to use Soy Candles. They are made from renewable crops and burn cleaner and 30% longer than paraffin candles, and they contain 100% biodegradable materials. Great additions to centre pieces are milk soaps. They are hypoallergenic and are made from all natural ingredients which make them great for the skin! Another idea for all natural centre pieces is herbs and natural spices. They would look stunning in small crystal glasses tied in neat ribbon for decoration. A common centre piece is small jars of honey stack in several patterns on the table. Each guest is able to take one home with them as a gift from the newly weds. Another great idea for gifts to the guests are all natural lip bombs made from all natural ingredients.

Working Green

Gayle Buske, Owner Business/Business 2008-05-04

These days everyone is talking about going green: green building, green recycling, and green commuting, green EVERYTHING! And with good reason; all reports indicate that global warming is on the increase; various animal species are on the decrease and near extinction. Much of this is due to the way we, and generations before us, have treated the planet.

As I read a recent copy of Backpacker magazine, the Global Warming issue, I thought about how truly “greenâ€ working and hiring virtually really is. Iâ€TMve always had it in the back of my mind, of course, but until I read more in-depth how weâ€TMre destroying our planet and whatâ€TMs being done about it, I had a hard time relating the greenness of it all.

So what do we do to help the planet when we work and hire virtually?

• Assuming you own a vehicle with a whopping 30mpg and your daily commute is 30 miles each way and you worked at a bricks-and-mortar office (or forced your administrative assistant to drive to a bricks-and mortar office each day) 5 days a week, you (or your assistant) would emit 9,860 pounds of carbon each into the atmosphere per year! So if you hire a virtual assistant, as well as work virtually yourself, you would SAVE an amazing 19,720 pounds of carbon emissions per year. Source: Stanford Universityâ€TMs emissions calculator: http://transportation.stanford.edu/alt_transportation/calculator.shtml. Be sure to stop by the website and calculate your carbon emissions.
• While itâ€TMs hard to gauge exactly how much paper is used in a bricks-and-mortar office, what I can tell you is that our use of paper has gone down significantly since starting Team Double-ClickSM, a 100% virtual business. In the old days it was nothing to order as many as 10 cases (yes 50,000+ sheets of paper) in any given month. With a virtual business and by utilizing virtual assistants for 100% of the companyâ€TMs work, weâ€TMre pushing a lot of paper if we use more than 2 reams (1,000) sheets a month. So again, working virtually wins: save on trees, save on carbon emissions caused by the processing and shipping of all those trees, which make all that paper.
• If weâ€TMre using less paper; weâ€TMre using fewer ink toners and cartridges
• What about the carbon footprint we leave when we eat all of that fast food when we eat out while working at a bricks-and-mortar office? One article http://openthefuture.com/cheeseburger_CF.html suggests that each of us, by eating three fast-food hamburgers per week, contributes to the emission of 1,188 to 2,013 pounds of carbon per year (this includes the energy used in the cooking of the burger as well as the commute to the burger joint). When youâ€TMre working virtually, you usually greatly reduce the number of times per week you eat out, thus reducing your carbon footprint once again. And you tend to use reusable containers instead of all those throw-aways.
• Most of us who work virtually also utilize virtual fax and phone systems, which again reduce our carbon footprint through reduced electrical carbon costs as well as reduced paper usage.
• If you have kids and you work in a bricks-and-mortar office (or if your assistant is forced to work in a bricks-and-mortar office) youâ€TMre contributing to greater emissions with all of those trips to pick up and drop off the kids at daycare.
• While I couldnâ€TMt find any figures on the carbon footprint left from dry cleaning, we can safely assume itâ€TMs considerable. Working virtually significantly reduces the need for carbon-costly dry cleaning.
• Think about the “green space we save by reducing the number of office buildings being put up.
• We hear about green building (the use of reclaimed or recycled building materials) often, but what about totally eliminating the need for that new building. This act alone reduces the carbon footprint in materials-savings.
• Letâ€TMs talk about the carbon-cost of powering a huge office space. Working virtually, you only have to power the room that you are working in
• Working virtually, you have the ability to choose green desks, packaging and materials
• And the most fun “green feature of working virtually is the envy of all of your bricks-and-mortar friends, family, and associates!

As you can see, working and hiring virtually makes a significant impact on the reduction of ozone-depleting greenhouse gasses and reduces your carbon footprint. Team Double-Click and its staff (both internal and outsourced) have worked virtually since 2000 and are proud to contribute to a better planet for our children. If youâ€TMre interested in hiring or working virtually and helping the planet, be sure to visit us at www.teamdoubleclick.com.

Green Gables

Montgomery’s book ‘Anne of green gables’ was eventually translated into 20 languages. People travel from all over the world to witness the site that inspired the famous tale of beloved Anne. As many as 10000 of the island’s annual visitors are now from Japan. It is one of the country’s top destinations for Japanese travelers because of green Gables.

Fortunately, the trip is well worth it. Green Gables located in Cavendish has all of the charm and character that Montgomery’s book promises. Touring through the delightful farmhouse is like visiting a place from your childhood in which a dear friend once lived. There is no need for a tour guide to explain which room is which. The period furniture and decor would please even those who are not familiar with the novel.

Outside the excitement and experience continues with a stroll through Lover’s Lane which sings with idealistic childhood ambiance. The Haunted Woods are no disappointment either. Here one identifies with Anne’s panic and apprehension over the horrifying possibilities and eerie atmosphere. The trees through here appear ready to grab little girls with wild imaginations.

Aside from the house and surrounding gardens and paths, there is a gift shop on the grounds. There are also several museums and exhibits throughout the island that invite the public to learn about and recognize Lucy Maud Montgomery’s role as an author of national and historical significance.

Following a path that leads from green gables toward the church will bring visitors to the cemetery in which Montgomery is buried.

Green Travel

Green Travel Everyday we are reminded that global warming has become a MAJOR issue worldwide. We all would like to be good global citizens, but many times don't know what changes to make. The good news is that small actions make big differences!

Did you know that the travel industry is the fastest growing industry in the world? Last year alone, there were over 715 million international arrivals worldwide according to the World Tourism Organization. And, each arrival leaves its footprint behind.

Eco-Friendly travel (also known as ecotravel and/or sustainable travel) is travel which promotes a sustainable environment. Travel is a wonderful opportunity to experience our planet, yet poses an enormous threat to it. Leah Powell, president of Trade to Travel (www.TradeToTravel.com), recommends the following websites and easy sustainable travel tips:

www.ResponsibleTravel.com www.GoodTravelCompany.com www.TravelWithConscience.com

Planning Your Trip: Seek accommodations and tours which carry environmental-friendly certifications or memberships in green industry associations - such as Green Seal or Green Leaf. Several organizations have developed standards to measure the environmental initiatives of hotels and tours. Standards vary depending on the organization; however, green hotels and tours include reducing energy consumption through fluorescent lighting, instituting recycling programs, conserving water either through installation of energy star products or by asking patrons to reuse towels, and by purchasing local organic foods. When hotels and tours meet these standards, they are certified as “green.” Travel to fewer destinations and stay longer at the destinations you do visit. Air travel leaves the largest carbon footprint of any form of travel. Choose trains and buses over airplanes whenever possible. Don’t fly at night. Trails of condensation from aircraft have a greater warming effect at night, trapping heat but without reflecting any of the sun's rays back into the atmosphere as they do during the day. Select accommodations close to public transportation or near the places you are going to visit during your stay. When flying, book electronic tickets. It reduces paper waste and you're less likely to lose your ticket. If you own a vacation property (villa, chalet, condo, apartment, flat, boutique hotel, castle, estate, bed and breakfast, spa, penthouse, private aircraft, yacht, or private island), become a member of Trade to Travel (www.TradeToTravel.com). Not only will you save 80% on fine accommodations worldwide, you'll be gentler on the planet. Instead of building more and more properties, let's share the ones we already have.

Before You Go: Pull the plug on any unnecessary appliances such as TVs, VCRs, stereos, toasters, and microwaves. These items may still use energy even in their off mode. Set your thermostat and water heater at low settings so energy isn't wasted while you're gone. Stop your newspaper or donate the paper to a school while you're gone. When You’re There:

Never buy items made from endangered species. Leave no trace. Do not pick flowers, take rocks or break coral. Don’t litter. Be familiar with cultural mores prior to arrival be respectful of cultural practices. Shop local: Head to local markets, where you can purchase fresh food from local vendors (which reduces the pollution required to import goods). This benefits the community by increasing their economy, and you will get fresh fruits and veggies and maybe even some handmade souvenirs. If your accommodations have an environmental program, please participate as much as possible. If you have any questions about how, simply ask when you check in or by calling the front desk. Never leave lights on when you're not in the room. Lower the thermostat when you leave the room for long periods of time. If your destination is a warm climate, close the drapes. Or, if you have Venetian blinds, angle them up to bounce the sunlight off the ceiling. This will keep the room cooler. Conversely let the sun warm up your room during the day if you're in a cooler climate. Leave unopened shampoo, soap, and other items in your accommodations when you leave unless you're taking them home to use. Avoid room service and carry-out which increase waste. Use water sparingly. In some places water is a very scarce and precious resource. Walk or use public transportation whenever possible. If you're driving, please carpool and/or rent hybrid a vehicle. Grab only the maps and brochures that you will actually use. If in a large group, share brochures whenever possible. Take pictures and leave the location as you found it. Never remove wildlife from its natural environment including shells, flowers and coral. When hiking or camping, stay only in marked areas to avoid destroying vegetation. If you're staying in a vacation rental property, leave the property owner a note letting them know that he/she can become a member of Trade to Travel (www.TradeToTravel.com), save 80% on vacation properties worldwide, and make a BIG difference for Mother Earth. It'll be almost certainly be the best tip that any of their guests have ever left them!

Are you wearing your oxygen mask when you clean your yard and house? If not, you might want to consider switching to green products for your house and yard sanitation needs.

If you use degreasers, stain removers and standard detergents to clean your clothes, dishes and bathroom, you've made your home into a small chemical plant! And using pesticides on your lawn and garden can harm the environment as much as they help your plants and grass. These chemicals contaminate groundwater and our lakes and streams. And if you breathe in or, worse, ingest some of these chemicals, you can get sick months or years later and not realize that you're ill because you came in contact with these hazards.

Phosphates in laundry detergent alone can kill fish, wildlife and plants in rivers and streams over weeks or months after they've been washed away. If you drive or walk by large masses of algae in ponds or streams, chances are pretty decent they've been caused by pollutants like laundry detergent and other household and yard chemicals.

You can combat these problems of hazardous cleaning products by cleaning your office and home green. You can clean with environmentally-friendly cleaning solutions that won't hurt the fish and plants in our rivers and streams and by changing your bathrooms into places where you can save money on water, paper and energy in the process.

GreenSeal offers multiple products to clean everything from your bathroom to your windows to your walls and floors. The Enviro Care Washroom Cleaner takes care of your soap scum and any mineral deposits that not only are havens for bacteria but are unsightly. At the same time, this solution doesn't hurt the environment when it is flushed away through your drainage pipes.

The Enviro Glass Cleaner works just like other types of glass cleaners to clean mirrors, formica and other polished materials and doesn't use alcohol or leave streaks. The Enviro Care Low Foam All Purpose Cleaner will clean your floors, walls and other surfaces without even needing to be rinsed. GreenSeal offers other environmentally-friendly cleaning solutions, as well, to meet your needs. These cleaners are typically non-toxic, biodegradable and some are even registered with the EPA. You do have to follow the mixing instructions when you use these. They come in a concentrated form and need to be mixed with water.

Green Moving

The days have come where the word green is used more often. There have been so many years of threatening words like chlorofluorocarbons and global warming, that we are becoming more aware of the impact we are making on our environment. This is just the beginning, of course, but this is the right time to figure out how you can make simple changes that will go a long way during your move.

Essentials

By taking a closer look at the aspects of moving and how it can be more green, the standards that are being used right now can be changed and innovated. There are plenty of people who have been through the process of moving long distances and know that it is one of the only times to see how many items are in your possession.

When you consider the expression reduce, reuse, and recycle, you will find that there are many ways to change the way we move. If packing is already in progress, you have probably found many items that you do not wish to keep, and definitely wouldn’t want to have your long distance movers ship. Sometimes it can be hard to find the energy or put time aside to recycle, donate, and find a way to keep your items out of the landfill. In general, the easiest way to prevent this as much as possible is to be more aware of the items you purchasing. Having fewer belongings will relieve you of more items to throw out or send with your long distance movers.

It is important to allow ample time to accomplish the task of packing you belongings. The reason you need this time is so that when you come across items you wish to toss, you will have the time to find a home for it instead. The Salvation Army is a great place to donate some of those items, and they have moving crews and vehicles that can hold small or big items.

To prevent the purchase of new packing materials that would end up in a landfill, ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and grocery stores if they have any extra boxes hanging around that you can acquire. If you must purchase new packing materials, save them for the next time you move.

Living Green

Today, more than ever before, we as residents of this planet have the responsibility to safeguard the earth so that there will be one left for our children. If this move does not start in the home then it may never gather the momentum that it needs. There are a number of eco-friendly technologies and developments designed specifically for homes and it's time that we investigated some of them and what they bring to the table.

Perhaps the best known innovations, or at least the most commonly see, are things like low-flow toilets, solar heating and energy efficient appliances. These developments have come a long way in past years and were some of the original "green home" products. They helped to form the basis of what would become a revolution in home building and in the way we think about the construction of a home. One of the newest ways of thinking about "green homes" is the idea of thinking about a home as a system unto itself. That is that in altering or changing one aspect of a home it is impossible not to affect other parts of the system. This systems is comprised of five, sometimes 6 distinct systems if there is a fireplace(s).

There are some really exciting things happening in the world of "green Homes." People are discovering new ways to drastically reduce their monthly energy bills on an ongoing basis. This is all part of a move by home owners and real estate professionals to show that there is an alternative to our reliance on forms of energy that are both detrimental to our environment and non-renewable. Eventually we will all have to consider these new ways of supplying power to our homes as we are leaving a trail of devastation in our wake in a ecological sense. What kind of planet are we leaving behind for the next generations? One that is devoid of clean water and organic foods? One that is getting hotter every summer and colder every winter? One that is so polluted that we cannot ever hope to clean the air that we breathe? It's not an attractive prospect and it will be our children that have to deal with the results.

Giving Green

Giving Green at Christmas:

Seeing the beginnings of Christmas produce in the high street made me realise that the next couple of months months are going to fly by, as they always do.

Put your feet up for an hour or so and create a 'natural' Christmas gift list. Okay it may be necessary to buy the new games machines for the kids, but for everyone else, giving green gifts will be very much appreciated.

If you haven't any flowers that will be blooming around Christmas time, make a note in next years garden journal to grow some. Fresh flowers in mid-winter straight from the garden brighten up your home and make great gifts. If you have got flowers that will be blooming at the right time, try your hand at a little flower arranging and see if you can't come up with some really nice displays.

As well as cut flowers, winter plants in pots are a good present to give. Whether you buy the plants or grow them, decorate the pot with simple painted flowers or leaves, or buy a decorated pot from your local garden centre.

Giving Green - crafts:

Pressing flowers is a traditional craft, and can be easily done at home. Buy or make a press, and choose blooms from your garden that you can create a picture with. Set your picture in a frame and cover with glass. A photo frame will do nicely. Small blooms can be used as well. They are more fiddly, but look stunning when arranged onto a picture. Pressed flowers can be used to decorate home made cards, larger items such as glass coffee tables, and tiny badges.

Start pressing your flowers now, and keep them safe until the winter nights start drawing in, then get creative!

During the autumn months, woodlands are a great source of natural gifts. Take a bag or two with you, wrap up warm and take the kids on a ramble round your local woods. Keep your eyes peeled.

Fallen branches are a wonderful base for making Christmas table decorations. Insects live under the bark so remove all the bark before you start. Varnish it if you want, or just smooth down with a little sandpaper. Then glue on holly leaves and berries, mistletoe, dried grasses, whatever you happen to find that will work.

How about having a go at sculpture? Prepare and carve the wood into a shape, or an abstract design and let your imagination go with it! Use natural materials, dried grasses etc; to decorate your masterpiece. It's a good idea to varnish the wood first if you are intending to make a longer lasting creation.

Giving Green - for Foodies:

If you know your mushrooms, collect some for a foody friend and dry them. Either hang over a range threaded onto string for a day or two, or slice and lay on baking trays, and place in a very cool oven ( the lowest temperature possible) with the door open for a few hours. Turn over after a couple of hours. Lay the sliced mushrooms on greaseproof paper if your pans are not non-stick, or spread the mushrooms onto a wire rack. When they are cool, put them into a nice jar and label.

Closer to home, you may have an excess of produce this year. Have you lots of tomatoes at the moment, and don't want to fill the freezer with tomato soups and purees? Sun dried tomatoes are a popular food, and make a lovely gift. Guaranteeing 3 or 4 days of sun is not always feasible though, so let's cheat!

Cut the tomatoes in half and lay them on wire trays, sprinkle a little chopped fresh ( or dried ) basil on each tomato half. Flavour some with sea salt ( very sparingly ) some with basil, or any other herb you have available. Then, as with the sliced mushrooms, put trays into a very cool oven for a few hours, leaving the door open. Don't turn them over. After a couple of hours, take out any that are totally dried, and check every half hour or so until they are all dry.

Cool completely and keep in an airtight glass container. Three sealabe glass jars full of different flavoured 'sun-dried' tomatoes make a lovely gift.

There are so many gifts you can produce from the garden, it's well worth making a few notes in your garden journal for next year to grow a few Christmas presents.

Giving Green - more ideas:

For example, elderberry wine - elderflower grows well in most places, and produces very nutritious berries, perfect for wine, juices and syrups. And if you can't wait for the berries, the flowers can be used to make elderflower champagne.

Scented flowers are wonderful for 'pot pourri'. Collect rose petals as they fall, and dry them. Then fill simple cotton sachets or buy pretty ceramic bowls or small trays.

Create a sleep pillow. Make a small pillow from a cotton fabric. Fill the pillow with lavender flowers. The lavender pillow is placed under the pillow at night. Lavender is proven to help relax and calm the nerves and is an excellent gift for a stressed friend. If you are good at sewing, make a neck pillow, to relax into after a hard days work.

Nature is simply bursting with creative ideas. Taking a moment or two now to get in touch with them could save a lot of Christmas shopping traumas. Giving Green must be best!

Green Gambling

Crucial as they are nowadays, environmental issues are usually easier to talk about than to actually solve. We dutifully buy energy-efficient light bulbs, recycle our household waste and drive fuel-efficient cars, yet our collective impact on the environment remains very substantial.

In gambling, unlike many other areas of life, going green is extremely easy. All players have to do to play in an environmentally-friendly way is to switch to an online casino.

Traditional land-based casinos, like all brick-and mortar institutions, are of course costly and energy-consuming. The construction itself and the building materials are the first big expenditure, unfortunately resulting in hundreds of others. There are the costs for water supply and sewerage (and scarce water resources are a chief environmental concern), electricity bills for heating, neon lights, surveillance systems, slot machines, and so on. Moreover, not all the materials used for the gambling itself can be described as being environmentally sound. There are playing cards, dice, Roulette wheels and tables, poker chips, slot machines – made of various materials: plastic, metal alloys, clay, glass, acrylic, wood. Each part of a land-based casino imposes some kind of impact upon the environment, and that impact is all the greater for the larger and more lavish operations.

The solution is amazingly simple – with online casinos, the energy efficiency of gambling is only measured by the energy efficiency of your PC. While going to a traditional brick-and-mortar casino is costly for both the gambler and the environment, logging onto a well-designed and popular online casino site such as the UK-based Red Lounge Casino (redloungecasino.com) is cheap and easy, but just as much fun. Red Lounge, like other online casinos, offers a wide variety of games suited to every gambler’s preferences with no added costs for exotic materials and no concerns for carbon emissions.

Online casinos also have lower operating costs than land-based casinos, which can be returned to players through more generous game rules, special promotions and surprising bonus features.

While cutting environmental damage down to a minimum, online casinos have not sacrificed what gamblers really value – exciting games, big payouts, new features, and efficient customer service. The Red Lounge London-based customer care team is available at all times, through telephone, e-mail, or video conferencing – all web-based activities which keep players happy and the world green.

Green Furniture

Certified Sustainable Wood
Murmur ‘furniture’ and it opens up your imagination with vivid pictures of retro and modern furniture in sundry materials. Wood, fabric, steel, glass and processed material like Methacrylate, high-density fiber—the most common being wood—accepted world over for its natural charms. There are options to meet the fancy and demands, and the choices are good for you, for me, good for everyone. Let’s say the world needs trees—they help with the natural balance. They hold the soil together, they cool up the planet surface and they help with the food chain.

We have been debating over using wood from sustainable harvested forests, sustainably harvested tree farms, and reclaimed wood being the main sources. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and its largest forest certifier, the Rainforest Alliance, is the most widely used standard for sustainable forestry. Relating to the theme, I found a couple of designs that appealed for the right reasons...

The Baltic coffee table rocks for its antique features and green theme. Crafted with harvested Solid Wood-Durian Timber, it goes well with the light hearted and conventional buff alike...the ring-shaped handles on the drawers look great, and the low-slung design demands attention....

Then we have the Tua Glass Doors Media Stand—a unique combo of utility & bygone charms—the furniture retains antique looks in modern form. Intelligent furniture....

Turning away from antique looks, lets focus on contemporary green furniture....the Loft media center, for instance. Designed diligently to store and display, it carries elements of sound architecture to make flawless furniture. Also deserves a mention is the Loft Modern Dining Table with its watertight features that add a contemporary touch to the overalls..

Furniture made with reclaimed materials

A stitch in time saves nine. Wood, as precious as it is, if taken care of, can last for a long time. Remember the legendary wood furniture tales passed on by grannies as it being preserved since long time. I think there is great substance in preserving wood. Why shouldn’t we make good use of all the wood that’s already out there? It’s the right way and many designers are doing a wonderful job out of reclaimed wood.

Reclaimed wood is the wood that usually is retrieved from old furniture, houses and other wooden articles, as also from left over sraps in a factory. Some stuff even comes from the bottom of the riverbed, wooden logs that sink to the bottom while being transported to the sawmill, and even from the bottom of the man-made reservoirs. Either way, furniture made from reclaimed wood is a great example of resource efficiency, but usually comes in shorter supply. The Rainforest Alliance has a Rediscovered Wood Certification label to look for.

Spacify line of AZCAST collection is committed to crafting furniture out of reclaimed material, crafting attractive and useful furniture and goods that are ultimately recyclable themselves; indeed, when an unfinished product is rejected, it is simply recast and used again.

Most of its designs are worth mentioning...the 5-Star Glass Dining Table, for instance. Made from aluminum used in aircraft parts (among other sources) is hand-poured into casts to produce the desired moldings. The clean minimal design hits a cord with furniture buffs as each piece is hand-molded, hand-poured, and hand-finished.

Bamboo—great grass for furniture!

Bamboo is a highly aesthetic grass used to decorate, build and landscape. It represents a family of grasses that range in size from a blade, growing up to many feet, and varying in color from jade green to maroon stripes. It grows incredibly fast and is highly versatile. As a matter of fact, it is the favorite with environmental designers and builders.

The beauty of bamboo lies in its flexibility. It can be flattened into flooring, shaped into furniture, compressed into veneers, sliced up to make window blinds. To get to extremes, you can even build a whole house out of it. Using bamboo in buildings earns architects and builders LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designs) points. Most organic bamboo is grown in China, sometimes grown with few or at best, no pesticides. Because it grows fast, it is much easier to maintain a healthy bamboo forests. This also means it uses a lot of water, however, and harvesting too fast can deplete soil fertility. But for the most part, bamboo is one of the greenest materials around.

In line with the concept, I recently came across Spacify’s Legare furniture and makes it here for all eco-friendly reasons. Made with Birch-plywood, it is worth noting that producing plywood yields 8-10 times more usable wood from a log as against solid lumber. Plywood furniture has greater potential to outlast solid wood furniture. And the energy utilized in converting wood from a raw material to a finished product is minuscule as compared to any other industrial material. Some examples....

The Dante Straight Desk made from 13-ply Baltic Birch Plywood is an FSC-certified 60” desk offering generous room for storage & study. A stupendous test carried out at Entela Labs showed that the furniture managed to load an incredible 2000 pounds (one ton) of shot bags and weights on Legare’s Corner Desk with no structural damage!

Plywood furniture has been around for a little over 100 years and its manufacturing techniques have been explored by a handful of designers including Aalto, Eames, Danko, and Pfeiffer. The Enrico straight desk goes on to prove just why. The modular design allows you to lock multiple units together to form a single, rigid workspace. The assembly is easy—without screws and bolts.

The Bice Peninsula adds that extra bit of deep handy desk space and is great for two-way meetings. The 31" Peninsula adds approx 31" of deep, end-cap width to an existing desk. The asymmetric panels are reversible, allowing left/right-hand unit to be attached to either side any desk or to an extension.

The Zita Modern Media Stand is a modular design flaunting four 8-high bays for audio/video components. The top can hold Plasmas/LCDs up to 50 cm in size. For surround sound systems, the center divider is recessed to allow a small center-channel speaker to be ideally placed under the TV and it has storage for more than 120 DVDs or 170 CDs on its four outer shelves.

Recyclable and disassemblable

The world would look so much better, and us, we would feel a little more at ease with green furniture speaking the universal language of eco-friendliness. The concept gains popularity for its equanimity and practicality, FSC certified furniture rings for its obvious implications on mother earth. Means products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, an international organization established to develop guidelines and certification processes for ecologically sustainable forestry.

Some examples of these products would be ones that can be easily disassembled, arranged, and recycled once they have lived their lives. Concrete furniture is out of fashion, in this context, and it means furniture that can’t be separated, may not be very inspiring. If it can’t be easily disassembled it’s probably a sign it can’t be repaired easily.

For obvious reasons, we need to take a close look at the recyclable furniture we wish to buy. Is it robust, easy to assemble & most important—is it certified? Spacify’s Legare collection looks smart and I would like to highlight a few models...

The norms being set, I like the Lucia Designer Extension Desk for its easy looks, easy assembly, practicality and robustness. Made with 3-Ply Baltic Birch Plywood, the Panels are asymmetric and reversible and the Bridges are designed to pull two desks together to make larger workspaces for two or more users. And yes, its really easy to get together....

Lia Office Corner Desk deserves a mention too. The corner desk is available in two dimensions; and holds it there; Entela Labs showed that the furniture managed to load an incredible 2000 pounds (one ton) of shot bags and weights with no structural damage! Adjustable shelving holds up to three 12" shelves and three 24" shelves. Great design....less fuss...its FSCfied as well...

Low-toxicity furniture

Have you ever noticed new furniture or car with its peculiar odor—it’s what they call off gassing, emanation of volatile matter of any kind from materials into habitable areas. It’s not relatively new; when you buy a piece of furniture and set it down, it tends to off gas which is all right if the materials used are non-synthetic. Some synthetic materials are toxic and can be linked to birth defects, and even cancer.

If your house is well insulated, toxins tend to circulate in the air and can be harmful. If you have children around and even pets that lick as a habit, it can be dangerous. One good idea while buying furniture is to check for ‘‘Green guard certification’’. It will ensure that you bring home low-toxicity furniture.

Also, try to explore naturally treated furniture with natural wood finishes, or biologically tanned leather and organic cotton. Here are some fine examples of green grade furniture,
Lectern Table Mobile Base is indoor air quality Certified® by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute under the GREENGUARD Standard for Low Emitting Products. The metal mobile Base is a well-structured creation while top is made of smooth wood and is noteworthy for its unusual shape and fine edge all around. Meets or exceeds ANSI/BIFMA standards soft edge options protects the user (as well as the furniture) from damage.

Team Table X-Base with metal pedestal and wood veneers top makes a style statement, made available in four Surface/Edge colors. It is designed to meet ANSI/BIFMA standards; soft edge options protect the user (as well as the furniture) from damage. Wood fiber core and veneer surface are 100% post-industrial recycle content.

Jack Solo Office Table is right for tight spaces. The standard design with black modesty panel is intuitive to use and comes with four braking casters for mobility and control. The ADA compatible design has Single activation lever for flip-flop motion located under work surface.

Green Holiday

Environmental friendliness. What is it? Simply put, it is the push to save the planet. Everywhere from downtown Los Angeles to the middle of Antarctica, scientists are working year round discovering ways to curtail global warming and the destruction of the ozone layer. With layers of pollution invading the skies everyday, what can you do to help?
Well, this holiday season instead of driving store to store, using precious petroleum resources and emitting carbon monoxide and countless other pollutants, just fire up your desktop or laptop, get on the internet and online shop!!
Yes, you can help this year be a green holiday by leaving the car in the driveway and do your Christmas shopping at home.
And it is easy, with your credit card in hand, you can shop thousands of online stores and you are sure to find whatever you are looking for. You can buy diamonds, toys, games, computers, electronics, and ipods, anything you can think of, you are sure to find on the internet. All you need to do is search. And you can do this all in a matter of a few hours.
And you can shop in your skivvies if you want!! Try that at Dillard’s! You will be arrested for sure!!
But sitting at your computer you can buy all the presents the kids have asked for. Or maybe the Pocket Fisherman Dad has wanted for years!
There are some sites that specialize in certain hard to find items, and sites for the unique gift.
Even most major department stores now are online. Though for my money, I like to shop at the Mom & Pop stores online. This way you get what you are looking for and you also support us lonely store owners that offer you the best quality for you hard earned dollar.
Really, it’s not hard to do! Just search for your gift idea and viola! There before you are pages and pages of stores offering you the perfect shopping experience. Look through the stores and decide the best deal for you.
The only warning I have is that while most stores are reputable, there will be sites thrown up designed to take as much money as possible and close without shipping any merchandise, however those are mostly uncommon as it takes some time for sites to be indexed in the major search engines, so these fraud stores stick mostly to the auction sites. These stores can be opened easily. The best advice I can give you is look for the stores privacy policy. This is where the owner lets you see how they handle the information that you submit to them. Question the store owner how they secure the credit card information and your name and address.
Also check the stores payment and refund policy. If the site allows credit card information, they should have a security certificate that lets you rest assured your information is encrypted. Do they offer refunds? Any reasonable store will offer some type of refund.
Look at the shipping selections. If the store is a drop shipper, you may not have lots of choices, but there are physical good stores that inventory merchandise, therefore you may be able to ship the common carriers or the U.S. Post Office.
Ok, I have only highlighted some of the more important points and there is more to look for, but don’t let it scare you. There is a lot more opportunities than disadvantages, so fire up the browsers and shop the night away!
