There is no shock in saying that the current state of our planet from an ecological basis is worrying. Summers are getting hotter, winters are getting colder and the planet seems to be moving more into extremes of weather with every passing year. It is only recently that society seems to be really getting on board with plans to improve the world's condition and to this end there is a new designation available for real estate professionals, the Eco-Broker. Following the lead of many different groups and societies that not only alerted the general public to the current state of affairs but have brought forth some of the new technology and ideas that could stand to save our home, Eco-Brokers are a new breed of brokers who are educated and knowledgeable about the possibilities that home owners have in installing and purchasing eco-friendly technology for homes. Now more than ever the environment is becoming a real concern. One thing that has damaged the environment significantly is our dependence on forms of energy that are either non-renewable or environmentally damaging. This can caused a real surge of research and development of appliances and gadgetry for the home that does not exact such a high toll on our environment. From energy efficient appliances to complete green design for homes, Eco-Brokers are at the forefront of education and implementation of these ideas. There are a huge number of new technologies that one can employ to make a home more friendly on the environment. Something as simplistic and ensuring that the home is properly sealed can save an incredible amount in heating and cooling bills or something as extreme as a complete solar power system can almost nullify the energy drain of a home. There is a real move towards an eco-friendly society and we as a society should hope that it is not too late. Humanity has taken a real toll on the planet and it is something that we can see on a daily basis from the increased number of storms to the rising heat and the melting of the polar icecaps. The planet is clearly sending out a message that we need to make some changes to the way that we live our lives. Eco-Brokers are brining this change to the front lines of the real estate industry. If we are to make these changes then they need to start at home with individuals before they can become a greater part of society. After all without our planet, what do we have? This very slogan was introduced by CITIZEN Watch Company presenting their innovating technology called ECO-DRIVE. The Eco-Drive watch has become a real step towards the future. The original idea of these watch coined in 1995 is a complete realization of contemporary development in the sphere of high tech. Citizen, the world’s largest watch company, was established in 1930. All the products manufactured by this company are known all over the world. Printers, calculators, machinery and of course watch have invariably good quality. More than a decade ago Citizen introduced the revolutionary Eco-Drive collection which has become the world’s most popular collection of light-powered watch. The collection is being improved constantly trying to achieve perfect quality, reliability and attractive design. The idea of Eco-Drive watch is perfectly simply – the power source is widely available, free of charge, inexhaustible and harmless. This is the sun power. The watch is equipped with a special lithium-ion battery that is charged by an amorphous silicon solar cell located behind the dial. Depending on the model, a fully-charged cell could run with no further charging for more than 6 months. If the watch are kept in the dark for a long time, a sleep mode activates, and in case of this the dials of the watch would stop running but the internal quartz movement would still keep track of time. The design of the first Citizen Eco-Drive watch was influenced by technical factors only. That is why the first collections were equipped by large accumulators that resulted in the huge size and not very attractive appearance. Unlike early solar-powered watches, the solar panels in latest Eco-Drive watch are almost invisible. Moreover, while earlier manufacturers were limited in choosing the color of the dial, now the variation of colors, shapes and materials can attract the most fastidious and capricious clients. The latest Eco-Drive models developed by highly qualified and extremely talented designers and engineers of Citizen company are constituted according to the last world trends both in technology and in fashion. One can be really impressed by thin, elegant, stylish and at the same time classical design of the watch. Citizen offers a variety of materials that the body of watch is made of. It is undoubtedly obvious that the Citizen Company succeeded to find the niche for its Eco-Drive brand. It comes as not surprise that ecological technology used in the watch together with smart appearance and progressive technical innovations have gained wide recognition all over the world.

Speaking of green culture, eco furniture is the next happening thing in the world of home and office décor. Eco home furniture segment offers different styles from solid wood traditional designs, to quite up-to-date modern and modular furniture. Environment friendly furniture not only helps with a good cause, it is specially crafted in such a manner that it has minimum negative impact on the environment. It is sourced from renewable resources and there are few or no chemicals used that result in harming the environment. Herbal oils and polish is used to minimize the toxic levels. Furniture crafted from recycled material and which also can be recycled also falls under the same category. Green living ensures that we do not burden the environment and also burn off precious energy from virgin resources. You can easily find great modern and traditional home designs in furniture that is unique and economical and as enticing as other furniture made from regular sources. Often, green furniture is considered boring and quite unexciting. But that is not the case, and you can find many creative designers crafting fabulous pieces of furniture for the environment friendly buffs who care about their actions. Certification : There are different certifications you can watch out for while buying furniture like FSC, LEED certification and look out for other factors like whether the furniture you buy is sourced from renewable or recyclable sources and whether the furniture you buy is also recyclable. Following are some points you may like to pay attention to • The furniture can be made from rapid renewable or sustainable material like bamboo or cork. Also, recycled materials can also be any material previously used like factory scraps, salvaged or post-consumer material like old furniture or items disposed off. Also, materials that have gone through very little processing such as natural granite, stone, slate, and wood are also considered green, as they expend little energy during the manufacturing process. • Non-toxic: The furniture should be free from chemicals and compounds. It should reduce or completely eliminate the use of toxic chemicals for production and finish such as chlorine, wood preservatives such as creosote and PVC which depletes the ozone and are labeled ‘green’. • Depletion of natural resources: High operational costs for a manufacturing can have a negative impact on the environment. The costs include electricity and other natural resources, including costs on packaging. Green products are the ones that are minimally packaged, preferably with recycled materials. Also, handmade products that do not consume much fuel are also eco-friendly. • Multifunctional furniture not sourced from protected forests, uses recycled material that is eco-friendly and also reduces the cost of transportation as also reduces trash on earth can be termed eco-friendly. • There is a eco-friendly stream of building products that reduce the impact of environment to create a healthy and green system. Bamboo for instance is a fast growing grass and when used as a building material like flooring etc, it can contribute in eco-friendly homes and construction, and is certified by LEED points recognized as a green effort to architects. There are simple facts about environment-friendly furniture and furniture designers are realizing its importance in fashioning furniture that is not just green, but thoughtful in the most practical sense. For we all can in some way contribute to the green culture that is not just in vogue, but also the right thing. And the designs follow the trendier path, even with its functionality and it’s really a fashion statement to embrace green living as part of everyday life.

Nowadays there are many Vegans, who are against killing of animals. They do not eat meat; do not wear fur and leather. In the same time there are many cruel victims of fashion, who are ready for everything with only aim to be attractive, stylish and fashionable. Usually people use the leather to sew the footwear: knee- high boots, sandals, loafers, sneakers, etc. Today the task to find cruelty free footwear is not very complicated. The people have wide range of choice. First of all you have to determinate with the amount and style of the footwear you need. You can create your own cruelty free footwear wardrobe if you will use the recommendations which are presented below. Here is the full list of eco – free shoes: 1. Weather protective boots. One of the best decisions is to buy 14-eye boot. If you like to walk outside, buy two pairs. The sole of the boots is made of rubber and the quality is very high. 2. Several pairs of fashion shoes in dark and neutral colors. The style must be classic enough, but in the same time quite sexy and attractive. Such footwear must be worn with classic suit and jeans, skirt and trousers. You must have one pair for cold weather with flat heel and one pair with high heel. Pay attention on the details and comfort. 3. One pair of chic boots. High heel is a guarantee of chic look. Such boots must be combined with formal and casual cloths. The soles must be eco – friendly and the lining must be made of soft synthetic fabric. 4. One pair of casual books. There are few places in the world where the eco-tourist can view the ecological wonders that result from the melding of two large continents and the molding of the land by the world’s two biggest oceans. There’s only one such place — Panama. It is no surprise that the respected Forbes Magazine cited Panama as the best eco-tourism destination for 2007. Panama is the narrow isthmus that connects the Americas. That is easy enough to remember, but people tend to forget that Panama is also that fragile strip of land that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean (by way of the Caribbean Sea). Nature and Wildlife Off the waters of Panama, you can watch whales cavorting along the Golfo de Chiriqui, or snorkel among the colorful coral reefs on either ocean. Small as it is, there are over 1,500 islands in Panama, each with its own stretch of white-sand beaches. You have the chance to watch four species of sea turtle nesting on the country’s beaches and wetlands. Panama’s marine and aquatic life is so rich that they have evoked comparisons with the Galapagos Islands further south. There are many national parks that you can visit for every ecological habitat you’d like to see. The mountains along the spine of Panama have their beguiling charms. You can hike through cloud-covered forests or swim in chilly mountain streams. If you feel adventurous enough, you can trek up Volcan Baru, the highest peak in Panama, and get a really unique experience: seeing, at the same time, the two largest oceans and the two largest continents at your feet. Its jungles are among the least explored areas in the world. They offer a visual treat for the eco-tourist. In the country’s 500 rivers and 22,000 square kilometers of rain forest, there are 940 bird species and 125 animal species unique to Panama. If you’re lucky, you may get to see some of them. What Else to Do Panama offers you the colonial ruins and fortifications that once defended old Panama, Spain’s capital in the New World. You can check out the many fortresses along the Caribbean coast. Find time to attend the colorful festivals in the towns, where the Spanish legacy continues. Dinner and a night on the town will make a good beginning or ending to your trip in the wilds. There are fine restaurants in Panama City to tickle every palate, quiet cafes overlooking the bay and the city, and nightclubs to while the night away. Best Time to Go It really depends on your plans. The peak tourist season corresponds with the dry season on the Pacific side, which is between mid-December and mid-April. The weather is mostly sunny in Panama City and places south of the Continental Divide during these months. On the Caribbean side to the north, the rains come all year-round. There is relatively less rain February to March and September to October. If you want some serious hiking, trekking in the national parks, or taking in the beaches, the dry season between December and January may be the best time. But remember, that hotel prices and airfares will be higher during this period. Planning Your Trip Because of the ecological diversity in Panama, one gets tempted to spontaneous adventures. But it is good to make plans before you go to maximize your eco-tourism thrills. Some destinations are very popular and you will need reservations. Bocas de Toros is the country’s top destination. You need to reserve flights early if you wish to go to the islands of Comarca de Kuna Yala. There is only one carrier that flies to the archipelago. A visit to remote Parque Nacional Darien would give you the best views of Nature in the tropics, but you will also need to book lodgings way in advance. The same arrangements are necessary for a visit to the Smithsonian Institution’s Tropical Research Institute on the Isla Barro Colorado. Panama is an eclectic city that can accommodate any budget. There are many budget accommodations and inexpensive eating places. There are also five-star lodges with seascape views and charming B&B hideaways.

Kerala is the perfect eco-tourism destination with all its greenery and natural beauty. Eco tourism is defined as ecologically sensitive tourism in harmony with nature. In the process making the tourists aware of the protective, productive and regulatory functions of the forests. For tourists, being on an eco tourism holiday means making an effort not to disturb the integrity and sensitivity of the ecosystem. People visit eco tourism destinations for studying the natural and cultural history of the environment and in turn creating and making a stage for economic activities to conserve of natural resources beneficial to local inhabitants. Therefore, to put it in a few words, eco tourism means environmentally conscious tourism. It involves understanding the ecology of a destination. Eco tourism is mainly nature based, where awareness about the natural resources is an important part and ecosystem has to be maintained besides benefiting the local people. All these conditions should be met to call any tour a successful eco tourism endeavor. Beaches, backwaters, hill stations, wildlife sanctuaries and culture including festivals mainly comprise the eco tourism products. The main issue is to improve the environmental settings. Kerala has a bounty of all eco tourism products. The Western Ghats, on which Kerala is located, is blessed with a tropical forest ecosystem providing a natural advantage for development of its section of tourism. Enhancement in quality and diversification of tourism is a must to further develop eco tourism in Kerala. Tourism that is too vigorous disturbs the natural habitat of an area to an irreversible extent. So to prevent this, there must be a well-planned strategy and proper programs. Though tourism cannot be averted and neglected, as this is a major economic activity for locals also, eco tourism is a good way to let make people aware of their surroundings and conscious towards their region’s ecology. Kerala has many places that can be put under eco tourism category. It has 12 wildlife sanctuaries and 2 national parks, creating a base for planning eco tourism activities. There is large scope for eco tourism activities in Kerala like mountaineering, trekking, bird watching and more. Many water bodies formed within the forest due to construction of hydel projects provide ample space for recreational activities. Moreover, Kerala is well connected and has a long coastline. The forest staff is also well trained for conserving wildlife and ecological balance. Major eco tourism avenues in Kerala are Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Shenduruny Wildlife Sanctuary, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary, and many more.

Your dog or cat is probably is not all that worried about global warming and deforestation, but a lot of owners are, and so many are now adding environment friendly pet furniture to the eco-friendly items they have in their homes. In just the last couple years there has been an explosion in eco friendly pet furniture sales, and to meet the demand manufacturers have produced a vast new array of pet related eco-friendly products. Pet owners across the country are now seeking out quality, eco-friendly items for their pets, giving the same emphasis to buying planet saving products for their pets, as they do to their homes and vehicles. This movement seems to be mushrooming each year, with sales of these products, such as certified organic pet beds booming across the nation. Many owners now feed their pets, as well as themselves, on organically produced food items. Many vinyl and plastic toys for pets are produced from soft PVC, which contains several harmful toxic chemicals. When your dog chews on his favourite squeaky ball these harmful chemicals can leach into the animals system, causing serious side effects such as organ damage and tumors. It is preferable to search out toys that use natural dyes or organically grown fibers that are chemical and pesticide free, these items are also biodegradable. Another good example of pet and planet saving products are certified organic pet beds which are filled with various materials, often100% fleece scraps that have been recycled. These beds can be slightly more expensive than regular pet beds, but are a better long-term investment as they are completely washable, even the soft filling. So instead of dumping the bed in the trash after a couple years, the bed should last your pet's lifetime. There are many other eco pet products available, such as environment friendly pet furniture, one stylish example is the ‘Kings Bed,’ a classy off the ground certified organic pet bed made from bamboo. Holden designs have produced several upmarket pieces of eco friendly pet furniture including their chic raised pet feeding units. There are also dog and cathouses made of eco-friendly materials, such as replenishable wooden doghouses and interior cat homes made with recycled cotton materials. Therefore, your pet can be as environmentally conscious as you are, with food, toys furniture and pet houses that are made from materials that will not harm the planet or you’re pet. With $20 billion per annum in public funding the modern earth cult can easily spend some nickels to attract cult members. I can well imagine that soon, on prime time TV, [or a gay sitcom], will be the tax-payer funded eco-cult recruitment, ‘You must join us’ advert. It will show a wide expanse of meadow populated by masses of automatons with arms outstretched resembling a fuehrer cult rally. Their laconic voices will repeat the intonation, ‘save the earth goddess...save the earth goddess...’ The camera will sweep in and out showing mindless, fixated faces with dilated pupils staring upwards, saliva seeping out of their mouths, whitening their black tunics.... Children will be weeping. A polluted river will wind through the copse of blackened trees in the background. Dead animals and dying polar bears shall litter the fringes. The sky will be somber and dense with particulates, interspersed with flickers of ominous lightening. In the foreground the massive throng’s chant will get louder as Al Gore the high priest enters his dais and raises his arms to the sky. The crowd will writhe together in communal ecstasy. Frenzied voices will chant louder as the first virgins are sacrificed and their blood used to soak and propitiate mother earth...then more are killed...capitalists; deniers; rationalists; Jews; Christians;...and then more and more...the blood will flow, the chanting will wail... In the midst of the bloody carnage a voice will break in and declare that you the viewer should join the earth cult and receive for a limited time only: ‘a snappy haircut, the true-believers guide to the Gaia cult; and sensible cardigans and footwear which are all the rage on gay sitcoms. Kool-aid will be free. Lobotomy mandatory. Oprah Winfrey approves.’ So says the disclaimer. State owned TV and tax payer funded pundits applaud. Civilization collapses. The mother Gaia cult has long antecedents in the history of failed civilizations. Yet with $20 billion or more in annual tax payer financing the modern eco-cult has plenty of resources to ensure a high recruitment level. It can buy off politicians; ostracize ‘deniers’; and brainwash school children through the mindless fantasies of eco-doom which are taught in public schools. It can ally itself with low cultural stupidity and liberal-left wing hogwash to realign society from individualism to communal Marxism. The new modern pagan eco-cult is led by high-priests who are at least in part, resolutely anti-Christian and irreligious. Their sect is also more obnoxious, dangerous and anti-civilisational than the most fundamentalist of Christian sects. As with all pagan earth cults from times past it demands obedience, irrationality and hatred for those outside the cult. All the high rollers in the modern eco-cult are socialist or Marxist. Maurice Strong, Ted Turner, the denizens of Hollywood and the Useless Nations Organization, Al Gore the eco-whore, George Soros the anti-reality billionaire amongst others, privately fund and force governments to finance the new eco-cult of mother Gaia. The earth cult’s pronouncements on temperature, climate change or Globaloney warming, is about as relevant to reality as Islam’s belief in the one-world Muslim caliphate; Hitler’s obsession with race purity; or the Communist desire at universal domination in the name of class warfare. The eco-cult is just another fascist paganism intent on control. The extent of the madness inside the eco-cult movement is obvious if you bother to read any of their prophet’s deranged pronouncements. For example UN documents on the climate movement depict Christianity as evil – since it separates humans from the loving earth goddess. Gore in his writings constantly refers to the ‘earth spirit’. He and others in the eco-fascist movement regularly call the earth, mother, a living spirit, the global brain, a living organism, and our nurturer. There is little to separate the modern eco-cult rhetoric from that of the Druids; the earth fertility cults which dominated the Near East for 7000 years, or the 2000 year reign of the Oracle at Delphi in central Greece. A former and now reformed true-believer columnist Alston Chase, warned about 10 years ago that, ‘It may be only a matter of time before America becomes a complete theocracy — a place where, in the name of environmentalism, science and religion fuse with civil authority to rule the populace.’ Well maybe the old boy is on to something. The nexus of populism; feminism; communalism; and government control can find no better location than in the environmental movement. Akin to saying that you love babies, the ‘I love mother earth’ cult wraps itself in the toga of irrational, post modern, psycho-babble to immure it from criticism. Politicians support the limitation on freedom, capital, markets and individuality in order to force conformity and social conditioning. New age feminists link up with the earth goddess cult to support female virility and emancipation from patriarchal control. Marxists support the earth cult since they see an opportunity at government control; class warfare and by extension wealth appropriation. Internationalists use the mother Gaia cult to further transnational governance and impose limitations on ‘rogue’ US power. There are endless uses of the Gaia cult for power mongerers. Therein lies the lesson. It should be painfully obvious that sanctimonious anti-reality posturing is more important to these groups, than actually doing anything concrete to help mother earth. For the assorted rabble of the eco-cult, the earth mother is not the prime concern – power and wealth control is. If the eco-cult really desires to improve the condition of their spiritual mother how about this? Make sure poor nations get inside the global trading system since technology and wealth correlate with a clean environment. Recycle your local city’s garbage through incineration into electricity. Stop using landfills. Clean up rivers, lakes and streets. Filter all industrial emissions. Push for more nuclear power – the cleanest and safest power generation we have. Privatize the oceans to stop over-fishing and oceanic destruction. Ask politicians to stop subsidizing inefficient, out of date plants and industries. Get poor people access to clean water and power, so they will not engage in deforestation and clear cutting. These and many other concrete measures are ignored by the eco-cult of Gaia. Moralizing about the abstract is such meaningless nonsense. There is no link between Co2 emissions and climate. There is more science supporting a coming ice-age than the reverse. Cultish behavior has never led civilization into the right direction. This is as true of the failed fertility cults of the Near East which were overtaken by advanced centers of capitalism, as it is with Islam, Nazism, Communism or the current madness and hysteria surrounding the ‘earth mother’. It is rather disturbing that in a computerized world people still need to believe in cults. It should be obvious that posturing with abstract theologies will not clean up the environment. Neither will scare mongering nations into disastrous Marxist management. The eco-cult is just another anti-reality program.

Eco friendly property in Spain. “Go Green” – “ECO friendly” - “save the planet” – “Global Warming”. All words we are very familiar with unless you have lived on the moon for the past 5 years or so. Now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and offering green products and services. But how green are they and is it just a token gesture to be popular? We have been researching the possibilities of building eco friendly and economical green villas in Spain after I inadvertently made the mistake of asking my wife how she would like her new house built. “Eco friendly” she replied. Those two words began a journey of thousands of miles across Europe and countless hours researching the web to find out how “eco friendly” I could build her dream home. Initially I found that an eco friendly home was just a cave house...I didn’t fancy living in or building a cave house, or they had thicker lagging on pipes or they offered solar water heaters...BIG DEAL, I expected that as standard, in fact it is law in Spain now to have alternative water heating supply, one company even classed a home as eco friendly because the heating had a thermostat. Two years later and after securing the sole rights to build with a German quality ICF system we are beginning our first two new eco friendly villas in Spain for clients and have several scheduled to begin next year. The interest has been amazing; unfortunately this means my wife’s dream home has been put on hold for a while but our business and our attitude to all things green is being transformed. We are offering geothermal heating systems, solar power, grey water systems, water saving systems inside and outside the home, wind turbines, appliance advice, lighting systems I never knew existed and even water less toilets (the jury is still out on that one with me) all this to make our eco friendly villas in Spain as economically friendly as we can. The fantastic thing about the Eco friendly build systems is the speed and insulating values they offer. A traditional styled villa of a 100m2 villa can be erected within 10 days! Saving weeks of labour charges thus bringing the cost of these new eco friendly properties on par or even cheaper than traditional block and beam villas. The insulation values are amazing and they even have fantastic sound insulation (great if you have noisy teenagers like me). When we first introduced this system to an architect he looked blankly at the proposal and smiled that smile you see in Spain when you know they think you are mad and after experiencing this manic suppressed grin over a lengthy period of time with a lot of old – maybe not old but my age – ok old Architects! We finally came across a young enthusiastic architect who believed and embraced the system as we did. We drew up a set of plans and submitted them to the local town hall and put the project forward to the bank for a valuation. The town hall was thrilled with the idea and the bank valued the project over 40% higher than we charged the client! Now this could have a lot to do with the fact that we are inexpensive builders but the manager did tell us they are valuing homes with eco friendly factors higher than traditional homes. We are not jumping on the bandwagon ... we’re driving it! All the information can be found on our web site.http://www.1st2spain.com /a>

As people are becoming more conscious about the environment, the demand for eco friendly products is increasing. And when it comes to furniture, the trend of going green is fast picking up. Customers nowadays prefer to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing products for home décor and furniture. And why not? After all, eco friendly furniture are made from non toxic, renewable materials. Moreover, they offer umpteen benefits: • Harmless to your health - Environmentally friendly home décor products and furniture are harmless to your health. After all health is wealth. You may choose a rather decorative piece of furniture for your home but if you come to know it was made from noxious materials and can be harmful to your kids and your health, would you still buy it? No way! Furniture made from toxic substances can affect the indoor air quality badly. • Harmless manufacturing process - With eco friendly furniture you can be sure that its manufacturing process didn’t harm the environment in any way. Now consider wooden furniture. You might think that since it is made from wood, it has caused environmental damage since trees have been cut to acquire the wood. But that’s not the case. Eco friendly wooden furniture (unlike regular wooden furniture) is made from wood which are taken from certified wood harvesting sites. On these sites trees are grown for harvesting purpose only and as soon as old trees are cut new trees are planted at the same time. At times, the furniture which looks wooden is not actually made of wood. It can be a product of bamboo which is a fast growing grass. • Prevent deforestation - By purchasing environmentally friendly products, you prevent deforestation, logging and global warming to some extent in your own way. This process of recycling helps in keeping the carbon foot print down in the environment and in lowering the pressure of excessive natural resource consumption. There are several kinds of recycling techniques. Firstly, it is post consumer process wherein plastic used in consumer goods like water bottles, containers and plastic bags are reprocessed and remodelled. Secondly, it is the post industrial process in which industrial plastic waste generated during manufacturing of heavy industry products undergoes thorough refinement and reshaping. Thirdly, off-white recycling of plastic on the basis of colour is another practice. Apart from processing the non-biodegradable materials, the bio-degradable products like natural fibres, organic cotton, hemp, bamboo articles and tote bags are also chemically treated to shape up into related and non-related products. With the threat of global warming looming large, more and more people are switching over to energy-efficient appliances and environmentally-friendly products. Offices are large consumers of furniture and in keeping with the green revolution it is important that office furniture should be eco-friendly. The primary concerns to be considered when choosing eco-friendly office furniture are the choice of wood and the chemicals involved in the manufacture of the furniture. Hard wood has traditionally been the material of choice for office furniture. However, with increasing pressure to save precious natural rainforest resources, the new trend is to manufacture furniture only from woods obtained in an environmentally friendly manner. Most furniture makers are now committed to sourcing their wood only from lumber companies that are known to indulge in sustainable forestry practices. When buying office furniture, look for those that have been certified by recognized authorities such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). These certifications guarantee that the wood has been sourced from well-managed forests that meet the principles of environmental conservation including maintenance of ecosystems, conservation of biological diversity and establishment of long-term management practices. Recycled materials are also beginning to find favor in the office. Office chairs are now available that are being constructed of material that is made from recycled soda bottles. It is equally important that office furniture should also meet indoor environmental pollution standards. Certain finishes, glues and stains create emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCâ€TMs) that are largely responsible for indoor air pollution. Eco-friendly office furniture includes powder-based finishing coats that require less energy to manufacture, create less waste and are VOC- free. Greenguard, a non-profit organization evaluates the effects of various products on the indoor air quality. Opting for furniture with a Greenguard certification ensures that only low-emission materials that are non-polluting are used in the product. Business owners have recognized the importance of buying eco-friendly office furniture. With furniture-makers acknowledging the need to comply with the ever-increasing demand, eco-friendly office furniture is now easily available in a wide range of designs and eco-friendly materials.

With threats of global warming, the lack of rubbish disposal areas, the shortage of water and other things which affect the environment, having an environmental friendly approach for your company can be a good way to move forward. Stats show that the driving force behind going green is more personal than professional, with more people considering environmentally-friendly practices the right thing to do and that personal interest in environmental and social courses in general has increased. This increase in environmentally-friendly practices has also lead to an increase in Green exhibitingoptions. Adopting this green exhibiting is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. However, there is one main obstacle to overcome before this can happen. Currently there are very few green options that perform and cost the same as the more traditional exhibiting options. Highlighting that not only is cost an important factor, but the lack of variety of green exhibiting options available. Although the adoption of green exhibiting has been low so far, fast growing interest will drive forward greater use of greener options, providing that exhibition contractors can overcome the obstacle of price, variety, and awareness. If contractors don't get involved they'll miss out! Top tips for Eco-friendly Exhibiting - Use recycled metals. Metal may not seem like the most eco-friendly material, but by using recycled or salvaged metal it is good ecological practice. - Paints. Instead of traditional paints, use Non-VOC paint as it is made from natural minerals and is competitively priced. - Recycled plastics. Using recycled plastic instead of virgin plastic has already made a huge difference to the environment. Research has shown, for every tonne of new plastic products made, using recycled plastic produces a carbon dioxide saving of 3.46 tonnes. Per tonnes this equates to running 195 average family cars, flying 502 passengers by jumbo jet and running 63 households for a year. - Energy-efficient lighting. By using CFL's you will use 25-30& less energy and they last 4-16 times longer. Use LED's as they have a lower operating cost and are very durable, lasting up to 10 years. - Timber. Use recycled wood as it is generally higher quality than new wood and is available in a wide range of styles. - Green giveaways. Choose an item which will minimise rubbish. Avoid plastic packaging, in fact, avoid plastic all together, unless it is recycled. Good examples of giveaways include recycled plastic pens, ceramic mugs or cotton/hemp tote bags. - Eco-friendly bags. It's nearly impossible to attend a trade show and not gather a loads of literature, giveaways, and more. Receiving a bag from an exhibitor makes it much easier for attendees to lug around their haul. A good idea can be to use eco-friendly bags and to put your company information on this type of bag along with a eco friendly logo. This will all reflect well on your company. - Use recycled paper. If you are sending out invites to your stand or getting new business cards printed, use recycled paper. Instead of mailing your contacts, why not email them!

Eco friendly furniture refinishing helps to reduce our demands on the environment by preserving furniture created long ago, and prevents cutting down and wasting trees growing today. It also helps us to improve our homes with updated fine quality pieces of furniture that might otherwise be overlooked, and clog our waste dumps and landfills. Fine, old trees were cut down in decades or centuries past, and utilized in the production of furniture that is eventually in need of maintenance, not discarding. Old furniture finishes, especially twentieth century finishes including lacquer, turn dark, translucent, and finally semi-opaque, hiding the beauty of the wood beneath. An old finish is then susceptible to whitish heat and humidity marks, becomes brittle and scratches easily. If a new, natural wood finish strikes you as unappealing, then a vibrant, more contemporary colored lacquer finish may be applied instead. Perhaps a glossy bright yellow, orange, or blue is more what you have in mind for your old, tired looking Danish modern furniture ? If you prefer a natural wood finish, keep in mind that beauty is skin deep, the damages are just to the finish, and you will start over when the finish is removed. If the old finish is removed using Eco friendly furniture refinishing techniques, then a new finish applied, the furniture can display the original beauty of the wood when it was created, with an antique patina that is irreplaceable. The quality and species of wood available and used then was generally better than what is available today. Whether colored lacquer or natural wood finish is more attractive to you, there is little comparison between craftsmanship of yesterday with today’s shoddy manufacturing. Old furniture you find that was made more than twenty years ago, will outlast just about anything made today. Eco friendly furniture refinishing is about more than just preserving old furniture, and not wasting resources to produce new flake board, melamine, laminate, or MDF and their waste products in the production of new furniture. Critical to Eco friendly furniture refinishing involves the use of less toxic strippers and removers to take off the old finish, prior to applying a new finish. Over the past fifteen years or so, removers have been developed to strip off old finishes, that are not lye based, or methylene chloride based. These modern, environmentally improved furniture removers include N Methyl-2 Pyrrolidone, or NMP, and other enzymatic removers that facilitate the removal of finishes without such toxic or ozone damaging chemicals as the older generation of furniture finish removers. Other Eco friendly furniture refinishing removers include the use of ceramic or quartz emitter infrared lamps to remove paint and heavily built up finishes, leaving no toxic remover waste or organic solvent to evaporate into the atmosphere at all. Living on our planet today, we have a responsibility to tomorrows’ generations. Preserving our heritage and the environment is something all can appreciate. The vintage antique, or designer furniture we admire from the 50’s, 60’s, or 70’s, including Eames, mid century modern, space age, op art or pop art is often available in local thrift shops, or from eBay, from yard sales, or flea markets. Often, you need look no further than in your own homes to find candidates for refinishing. Open your imagination to wider refinishing possibilities for such handsomely designed furniture, and you will be helping yourself, our society, and the environment for a brighter tomorrow.

Interior design is all about creating aesthetically pleasing spaces that are safe, practical and in harmony with the rest of the surroundings. In order to carry this out effectively we must source the best materials, furniture and fixtures and fittings for the job, and in doing so, we inevitably have an impact on the environment albeit inadvertently. These days with so much emphasis being placed on global climate change, reducing consumption, and recycling, interior design can be a bit daunting if we want to limit our carbon footprint and still get the effect we want. However, armed with the right information, it needn't be a big challenge and we can still create beautiful rooms that are stylish, healthy and that are environmentally friendly too. So where do we begin? First of all it's important to note that every single thing we buy has an impact on the environment somewhere along the line either, from the way they are extracted, manufactured and processed, or from the distances they have to travel to end up in our home. Take for example paint, wood, glass, metal, textiles and furniture, each of which can have a negative impact if we don't know what to look out for but with a little effort and forethought, we are able to find eco friendly alternatives. Paint Conventional paint contains solvents and lot of other harsh chemicals and toxins but it is possible to source paints that have a reduced effect on the environment and that don't contain solvents, which are not only a much healthier option as they won't release harmful gases into your home and the atmosphere, they can be just as effective. Wood If possible, try to buy wood that is grown in a local forest so it doesn't have to travel long distances to end up in your home. Also, choose woods that don't have a negative effect on the environment. Look out for the FSC symbol which stands for Forestry Stewardship Council, an international non-profit organisation that will ensure that when you buy you will not be contributing to global forest destruction and threatening the livelihoods of people who depend on the forest or timber to survive. Glass and Metal Glass and metal are fairly easy to recycle and one of the advantages of both is that in most cases they can be recycled over and over again without losing any quality. Using recycled glass and metal helps reduce the amount of resources needed to produce these materials from scratch, also the process of recycling uses a lot less energy than what is required to make new glass and metal. Textiles Textile production can include processes like dying and bleaching which uses a lot of energy and will produce toxic gases which are then released into the environment not to mention the harmful pesticides that are often used whilst growing the raw materials. The main things to consider when choosing an eco friendly option is how renewable the product is, in other words, can it be replenished quickly, whether the product is dyed or if natural dyes are used, and whether a lot of chemicals are required to produce it. Some of the more eco friendly choices include organic cotton, wool and hemp although there are many others available too. Furniture How eco friendly your furniture is will depend on the material it is made from, how it is processed and what finishes have been used, so choose carefully. Consider buying second hand furniture or items made from recycled or reclaimed materials and doing them up as this helps to keep existing items in circulation and reduces the amount of perfectly useful items ending up in landfill. When sourcing eco friendly materials for your interior design project, try to stick to the following guidelines: - Buy from local producers and suppliers as much as possible as the less distance an item has to travel, the lower the impact on the environment - Consider the type of materials you choose and whether they come from renewable and sustainable energy sources - Avoid materials that contain chemical additives or that use a lot of energy during manufacturing processes - When buying new items, try as much as possible to choose products that can be readily recycled after use or that can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner - Consider low energy or energy saving devices and buy as much as you can from recycled or reclaimed materials Finally, as a result of the massive amount of publicity given to global warming and the need for conservation of energy, many producers make claims about their products that are misleading or even false so check out the credentials of any suppliers claiming that their products are certified as natural, organic or eco friendly.

There are many reasons why you should use eco-friendly products. These items use non-toxic ingredients, which are not only good for your health but for the environment too. Here is why: 1.Farmers who grow organic produce do not use pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizer. This means that the produce has not absorbed any harmful chemicals, which in turn you would either absorb or ingest. This is really good news for your overall health. Plus, the environment also benefits from this as pesticides and herbicides are not draining off into our water ways. 2.Organic produce uses less natural resources while providing more long-term viability of the product. As such, this produce is safe and yet it is able to meet the same high demands that you would require from any produce product. 3.Traditional farming methods also put a strain on our environment. This strain is becoming more and more unbearable. As such, it is becoming very important that we manage our natural resources better. So, as you can see, using natural products pose less of a health risk. Therefore, it only makes sense to use these products. Of course, you really do need to look at these things for yourself so that you can make well informed decisions. This should be a good reason for you to want to start using eco-friendly products in your home. Even if you only slowly convert your home to the use of these products, you will still be helping yourself and the environment at the same time. When babies are born they are unable to make decisions for themselves and the young lives in our care deserve the best that we can provide and it is our responsibility to ensure that we give them a natural and healthy environment to grow in. The author looks at things that can make all the difference to an eco baby and eco family. Organic and Fairtrade Baby Food Organic baby food has been around for decades and fairtrade baby food has only recently been launched. Why feed your baby with chemicals, additives and possibly genetically modified ingredients when you can feed them fresh, organic and healthier food? By buying fairtrade it also enables you to put something back into local communities where the ingredients originated from, so that they can look after their families better due to being paid a fair price for their food and hence they are able to reinvest the funds into their community and families. Organic and Eco Friendly Baby Care Babies have extremely sensitive skin that requires a mild and gentle touch - which is why it makes sense to treat them with products made from the purest ingredients. The skin is the largest part of the babies body and is often prone to sores and nappy rash in the early days. Minimise the amount of chemicals coming into contact with the babies skin by buying organic or natural baby care products. Organic and Fairtrade Baby Clothing A babys skin is thinner than that of an adult, so make sure the clothes against their bodies are free from harmful pesticides and chemicals by buying clothing which are made from organic or hemp fibres which are made with the minimum or no chemicals in the production and processing. By buying Fairtrade or ethical baby clothes from companies such as HUG ensures that other babies in developing countries may benefit as well from the clothes that you buy. Cheap, brand new clothes from supermarkets etc. are often made in China in low cost production facilities where workers are paid the minimum wage and where the term sweatshops originated from. Buying second hand or using donated clothes is the ultimate form of recycling and is cheaper too at this expensive time of life. Environmentally Friendly Cloth Nappies Cloth nappies can be washed and reused hundreds of times. Millions of disposable nappies are used throughout your country and you can imagine what size of landfill is needed to bury them all! Cloth nappies can reduce nappy rash and have no suspect chemicals. By washing them with your normal clothes, you again minimise your babies impact on the environment. Breast feeding Breast milk is very economical, constantly available at the right temperature and if your diet is organic then so is your milk which is therefore better for your baby. If you have to buy formula be wary of buying Nestle as an International Nestle Boycott is in effect in 20 countries. The boycott will continue until Nestle ends its irresponsible marketing of breast milk substitutes world-wide and abides by the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and subsequent Resolutions in policy and practice.
