Cingular Wireless is the biggest wireless company in the United States, and offers the largest digital voice and data network in the land. Cingular ringtones play a large role in providing the world with a variety of ringtone choices, with Cingular ringtones jamming on as many as 61 million phones.

Cingular ringtones have something for every lifestyle. Whether you enjoy hip hop, punk, hard rock, jazz or Reggaeton music, Cingular ringtones can provide you with your favorite music right on your phone. Cingular ringtones from artists such as Nickelback, Justin Timberlake, Young Jeezy, Snoop Dog and Carrie Underwood can alert you to a phone call in class, at the coffee shop or your at mother-in-law's house. And Cingular ringtones don't just include music or songs, but sound effects and comedy clips. Imagine hearing voices telling you to pick up the phone, when no one else is around. Scare burglars away with the sound of a dog barking or dishes breaking, scare trick-or-treaters with the creaky door, and remind a classmate that they'll be late to class with the sound of clocks ticking. For those who just want to use Cingular ringtones to annoy their friends, it is simple to download such irritating sound effects as tap dancing toes or a ringing doorbell. Cingular offers graphics and answer tones as well as ringtones. Answer tones are songs that are generally considered part of the Cingular ringtones family, but unlike their counterparts, personify your callers’ personalities rather than your own. Answer tones come in audio clips of songs, celebrities, jokes or quotes. The difference between Cingular answer tones and Cingular ringtones is a matter of storage. While Cingular ringtones are stored in the handset, answer tones are stored online, in your personal library. Cingular ringtones go with your phone, while answer tones can be transferred through a SIM card onto a different phone. Finally, answer tones have an expiration date.

Cingular ringtones play only on certain makes and models of phones, and not all songs can be downloaded to all brands of cell phones. To determine whether you can download those spiffy Cingular ringtones to your phone, visit the Cingular website at cingular.com/>www.cingular.com. Go to Tones and Graphics and select the make and model of your phone. Only those songs that can be downloaded to your particular phone will show up. Some other things to remember about Cingular ringtones:

Cingular ringtones are nontransferable • Don’t delete your Cingular ringtones until you are ready to get rid of them; once they’re gone they’re gone. • You have to have a Cingular account and subscription services to download Cingular ringtones • You can assign different Cingular ringtones to different callers, but only if each is in your contact list. • You can have up to 99 answer tones in your personal library and 2-99 tones in your play lists. • Prepaid customers can download Cingular ringtones and games as long as they have a compatible phone. • For monophonic ringtones, you need text messaging, while polyphonic ringtones/super tones require that you have text messaging and MediaNet.

You can download cingular-ringtones.html>Cingular ringtones and graphics either online, through wireless Internet access, or by way of text messaging, with the message “ring,” a space, and a download code, sent to 151. Cingular ringtones are becoming more prolific on the web, and easier to download, as those who carry Cingular cell phones demand the availability of ringtones that reveal their personalities.

The new Dell Latitude D620 and D820 notebooks can be configured with Cingular’s UMTS/HSPDA-based 3G technology onboard, giving customers global wireless data capabilities from day one. In the U.S., Latitude users now have mobile broadband access in all BroadbandConnect markets launched by Cingular in 2005 — and in most major markets by the end of this year — with seamless high-speed EDGE network coverage outside those areas in 13,000 cities and towns. Overseas, they can use their Latitude notebooks wirelessly in conjunction with EDGE or GPRS data service in more than 100 countries worldwide.

“The new Dell Latitude notebooks configured with Cingular’s BroadbandConnect service represent a complete, self-contained package — a fantastic new computing device with unparalleled global wireless capabilities built-in,” said Jeff Bradley, vice president, business data services, for Cingular Wireless. “This simplifies the wireless experience for business users by making it seamless. There’s no longer any need to purchase and bring along a separate wireless card or search for a WiFi hot-spot when traveling domestically or abroad.”

Cingular’s BroadbandConnect service uses UMTS/HSDPA technology — the global standard and natural 3G evolutionary path for GSM providers. In the U.S., it provides average download speeds between 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), with bursts to more than one megabit per second (mbps). Cingular’s EDGE network, the largest national high-speed wireless data network in the U.S., provides average download speeds of up to 135kbps.

BroadbandConnect is available today in 16 U.S. markets covering 52 cities. Markets include Austin (TX), Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland (OR.), Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose (CA.), Seattle, Tacoma and Washington, D.C. It is expected to be online in most major markets in the U.S. by the end of this year.

The new Dell Latitude D620 and D820 notebooks are available immediately through http://www.dell.com. Latitude customers can activate Cingular’s BroadbandConnect service directly from Dell and are billed monthly by Cingular. Unlimited monthly BroadbandConnect service is $59.99 per month with a two-year contract and qualified voice contract.

Beginning in late Q2, customers will be able to sign-up for Cingular Data Connect international plans. These will offer two international wireless data monthly usage plans — a North American plan ($109.99 for 100MB) for travel within Canada and Mexico and an Overseas plan ($139.99 for 100MB) — both include unlimited domestic usage on Cingular’s domestic data networks. The Overseas plan will provide access in more than two dozen countries, with service planned to be offered in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and other major areas in Asia and Europe.

Cingular Cellular Phone Service Is A Little Different

There is a lot of buzz in the telecommunications industry about different cell phone plan providers. Which is the best and which is the worst is really a matter of personal opinion. There is one name, however, that has been getting a lot of attention as of late. That name is Cingular. The Cingular cellular phone company is a little different than some of the others for a whole host of reasons.

With what is considered one of the best networks in the world, this company is winning over clients left and right. There are many particular features about Cingular cellular phone service that make it the choice of many. These reasons include:

* Large network support. These phones used to stand out on its own, but now it's even bigger and better than before. A recent merger has enabled the company to boast one of the largest networks in the country.

This means it is very difficult for a customer to go anywhere and not be able to receive service. However, There are still some remote areas that present challenges to getting service.

* Phone choice. The number of phones this company supports is fairly impressive. From the new iPhone from Apple to Nokia, Samsung and more, this phone service is not a single-phone-fits-all type of company.

* Supported services. Like most major carriers, they offer phones with service that are very compatible with most major technologies offered today. These phones can support PDA technology, Bluetooth, e-mail, text messaging, music and video downloads and more.

The company has poised itself to keep up with the industry and is doing so especially well. With both the Cingular and AT&T backing, if a service enhancement is offered, Cingular will likely provide it.

* Pricing plan choice. The company has a variety of plan options that can fit just about any need going. Some of the standard features of these plans include unlimited mobile to mobile calling, roll over minutes, exclusive phone models and more. This coupled with the overall network size makes it a popular choice for many.

* Fewest dropped calls. The company ranks at the highest for having the lowest number of dropped calls. This is great for those who are tired of losing the person on the other end of the line while driving, walking or even just sitting and talking.

* Track record. Cingular has been around for a while and currently boasts a large number of clients from the commercial and residential arenas.

* Member perks. There are benefits for loyalty that other companies might not offer. One of the top features is the refer-a-friend program that gives users a $25 bonus when friends sign up.

Boasting one of the largest calling networks in the world, the Cingular cellular phone service provides its customers lots of perks. From major name backing to extensive choices in pricing plans and features, it is at the top of the industry for some very good reasons.

The Growth Of The Cingular Cellular Phone

Riley Hendersen Technology/Mobile 2007-03-26

In today's world of advanced communication we - as consumers - expect a certain level of functionality from everything from our computers to our cell phones. The cell phone, especially, has single-handedly transformed how we communicate; allowing us to make and receive phone calls regardless of where we are or what we are doing. The birth of this industry has spawned an ever-growing community of cell phone service providers, formulated to deliver the latest technological advancements to customers far and wide - including phones and service plans.

As customers, choosing from among these service providers comes down to a matter of comparison shopping - seeking out those providers that will give us the features we need at the price we can afford. Choosing a cell phone often comes down to the same thing - finding a phone that has all the bells and whistles that will make our lives easier but still delivers quality communication at an affordable price. The Cingular cellular phone, among others, has achieved enormous popularity in this regard - enticing customers with its sleek style and dependable function.

Cingular Wireless was first formed in 2001 - as a combined effort between AT&T and BellSouth. With the increasing popularity of the their service and cellular phone - AT&T acquired BellSouth at the end of 2006. It is now wholly owned by communications giant, AT&T and holds rank as the largest wireless manufacturer in the United States - with over 60 millions customers.

Cingular has since become synonymous with service in the marketplace; known by consumers for its user-friendly rollover minutes, family plans, and its GoPhone plan that allows you to pay as you go without being tied to an annual contract. But just as popular, and just as well known, is the cellular phone offered throughout an extensive product line that offers features such as music, cameras, video, Internet capabilities, and PDA/Smartphone models.

One of the more popular cellular phone models is the Cingular 3125 - a flip open Smartphone that is supported by Windows Mobile 5.0. The 2125 Smartphone offers connections to the computer and Bluetooth capabilities. Pocket PCs offer communication and organization in one slim design. The 8125 Pocket PC connects with computer programs that you need to get the job done no matter where you are. The 8525 steps Pocket PC up a notch by offering global coverage, mobile email, and lightening fast 3G design.

Cingular often teams with mega-giants in the industry to create cutting edge products that will take communication to the next level. Evidence of this can most recently be seen in their work with Samsung to produce the new SYNC cellular phone that provides all the media you could possibly want in one compact phone including video, music, Bluetooth, and camera capabilities. But the innovation doesn't stop there; Cingular is currently working with Apple to produce the world's first iphone - the first phone/i-pod combination that will once again transform technology upon its release.

As communication and technology changes you can be assured that Cingular - and the companies like it - will work hard to stay on the cutting edge, providing their customers with what they need to stay connected. The cellular phone will be among the phones that will morph before our eyes - bringing us new and better ways to communicate.

Will Cingular''s Merger With At&t Affect You?

J. Lloyd Computer/Computer 2007-06-26

Cingular is now the "New AT&T." You may have heard this on the television as they are now advertising this new merger of the two companies. What does this mean for the average consumer? If you were a Cingular customer, will you have to purchase a new phone instrument or sign a new contract? The answer to this question is a resounding, "no." You have to do anything to remain a customer.

Why use Cingular?
Well, according to their literature, they are the best cellular phone company in America today. They tout that "no other carrier compares" to their outstanding service. They claim that they have a fewest dropped calls, unlimited mobile to mobile calling, and roll over minutes.

Roll Over Minutes
One of the best features of is their roll over minutes. No other cellular company offers roll over minutes. Your minutes accumulate for up to 12 months so that you can use them at your discretion.

So, how do you know if this is the company you want to use and the one that will meet your needs? The different plans they offer vary in cost depending upon the number of minutes you want to purchase for each month, if you want more than phone, if you want the family plan or if you want special features.

You can spend as little as $40 or several hundred dollars for your instrument. The final cost will depend upon whether you sign a 1-year or a 2-year contract with the company. The 2-year contract locks you in for a longer period of time, but it does provide you with the best final price on the telephone instrument.

The best way to get started is to determine what features you really want or need. Think practical. While games, music players, video records, and cameras are standard on many, do you really need these? Think about what you will actually use.

Some of the most popular features include volume controls, speed dialing, voice activation, hands free ability, and the capability to change your ring tone to vibrate or to very loud or very soft.

You should also take a 'hands-on' approach when selecting your phone. Go to the store and play with the phones. See if it is comfortable to hold in your hand and if it is easy to talk on. Does it fit well into your purse or easily clip onto your belt? Selecting a new wireless service provider, a plan and a new telephone requires some research on your part.

There are many different carriers, plans and options available for the consumer today and without adequate knowledge and planning you may be purchasing items that you will never need or use. Think ahead; know what you want, and make an informed decision before you sign a contract. You will not be sorry that you took the extra time to fully understand what is offered and what you really need in a Cingular cellular phone.

Crossing the Cultural Divide - Apple meets Cingular/AT&T

Linda Ford, PhD Business/Business 2008-05-05
View Detail
Hip and edgy Apple has decided to dance with Cingular (as in, stodgy old AT&T). The revolutionary meets the regulated monopoly. Will this be like "Bambi meets Godzilla?" Not likely, but there are some significant challenges in the alliance.

If you want a visual image of the difference, check out the story on Inside Bay Area (http://origin.insidebayarea.com/business/ci_5012753). In the accompanying photo, you can just feel the difference between Jobs and Sigman (Cingular CEO).

Here are a few elements of culture that could trouble this alliance.

Decision making. Apple has demonstrated its willingness to move quickly to be the market leader, sometimes at the cost of putting the wrong product out in the market. (Anyone remember the Apple II?) AT&T (Cingular's parent) is more known for the slow, lumbering moves appropriate to a giant.

Customer care. Early customers may very well get caught in the middle as the Cingular service reps declare the problem to be an iPhone technical issue while Apple declares it a Cingular phone service issue. Which set of policies and systems will prevail as the inevitable early glitches occur? Will the customers survive the battle?

Innovation. AT&T's enthusiasm for investments in technology may not keep pace with Apple's. Steve Jobs built Apple on his willingness to invest in leading edge (and sometimes bleeding edge) technology. With product life cycles measured in months in the cell phone industry, that mismatch could spell trouble for the collaboration.

Brand identity. Apple rarely co-brands its products. Cingular is returning to the AT&T brand. What does all of this mean to the iPhone? (To say nothing of the Cisco lawsuit over the iPhone name!) Trouble ahead on this front for sure. How will these two very different cultures tackle this tricky tangle?

Communication. I know - this is a communication device. But can the executives who have to hold the deal together make it work? The possibilities for miscommunication and misunderstood expectations are boundless. All of the things that are left unsaid in the course of normal business communication are possible sources for misunderstanding. Executives on each side of the deal will make their own assumptions about what was and wasn't said, likely without even realizing they are making assumptions.

This whole affair calls to mind cartoons from the 1950s showing a flustered telephone switchboard operator with wires all tangled and crossed. Can't you just picture the iPhone caught in that tangle of wires? However, all of that said, this is an exciting step in the media and communications world and it could be the start of some interesting developments.

Cingular Wireless, LLC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, is the largest mobile phone company in the United States, with more than 58.7 million subscribers. The company has the largest digital voice and data network in the United States.[2]

Cingular was formed through mergers and acquisitions, and as a result of these - as well as the rapid technological change in the wireless industry - Cingular operates wireless networks using many different wireless communication standards. The most widely used of these technologies is called Global System for Mobile Communications, or GSM. On top of its GSM network Cingular operates a data network called GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and an upgrade for faster speeds called EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution). Cingular supports their legacy TDMA and analog networks; however in March 2006 they announced that these networks would be shut down by February 2008.[3] As part of this effort, Cingular will charge a $5 monthly fee to those customers who still use TDMA phones. [4] Former networks include various paging services and the Cingular Interactive division that became Velocita Wireless which was recently purchased by Sprint Nextel. [5]

Among the services that Cingular aggressively promotes is its "Rollover" service, allowing customers to keep unused minutes from month to month on a twelve-month rolling cycle on its popular "Nation" nationwide plans. Contents [hide]

[edit] History Southwestern Bell Wireless logo Pacific Bell Wireless logo

Cingular Wireless was formed in 2001 as a joint venture of SBC Communications (now AT&T) and BellSouth. The joint venture created the nation's second largest carrier. Cingular grew out of a conglomeration of 11 regional companies. The 11 brands included Southwestern Bell Wireless, Pacific Bell Wireless, Nevada Bell Wireless, Ameritech Cellular, SNET Wireless, SBC Wireless, BellSouth Mobility, BellSouth Mobility DCS, BellSouth Wireless Data, some Cellular One markets, and Houston Cellular. Cingular's lineage can be traced back to Advanced Mobile Phone Service, Inc., which was a subsidiary of AT&T created in 1978 to provide cellular service nationwide. AMPS, Inc. was divided among the RBOCs as part of the Bell System Divestiture.

With the exception of Pacific Bell and BellSouth Mobility DCS, the digital network consisted of TDMA Technology. The Pacific Bell and BellSouth Mobility DCS networks used GSM technology on the PCS frequency band (1900 MHz).

In 2002 Cingular began an initiative called "Project Genesis" that involved a GSM/GPRS overlay of the entire wireless network. Project Genesis was completed by the end of 2004. Once Bell South is purchased, Cingular will become a whole subsidiary of AT&T.

First announced on June 22, 2005 Cingular Wireless announced the intention to divest its Caribbean and Bermuda operations and licenses which it acquired from the acquisition of AT&T Wireless, to Irish owned, Bermuda-based Digicel Group under undisclosed financial terms.[6][7][8][9][10] In 2006 one-year following the deal, a high ranking source allegedly close to the sale pointed the Barbados Daily Nation Newspaper towards some SEC filings made by Cingular Wireless, the SEC filings were said to establish an idea of the approximate sale price of the deal. According to the SEC filings it stated that Cingular Wireless was paid around US$122 million, with much of that $122m cost to Digicel going towards the purchasing of the former AT&T Wireless assets in Barbados.[11].

[edit] AT&T Wireless merger

After a bidding war with Britain's Vodafone PLC, Cingular announced in February, 2004 that it would purchase AT&T Wireless for 41 billion dollars. AT&T Wireless logo Cingular Wireless logo

The merger was completed on October 26, 2004. The combined company had a customer base of 46 million people, which placed Cingular as the largest wireless provider in the United States.

Cingular has launched a high-speed network known as "BroadbandConnect," based on UMTS and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), to counter Verizon Wireless and Sprint's EV-DO networks. UMTS service was launched on December 6, 2005 in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, San Jose, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore and Washington D.C. Cingular is expected to launch UMTS in all major metropolitan markets by the end of 2006.

[edit] Financial Performance

The first wireless company to announce Q1 results, Cingular reported an extremely strong first quarter, beating analyst expectations with 1.7 million net adds during Q1, drastically reduced customer turnover (or "churn rate") at 1.9% versus 2.23% one year prior and numerous other improvements. At quarter's end, 89% of Cingular's customers and 97% of its wireless "Anytime" minutes were on its GSM network, a move which the carrier is aggressively promoting. Q4 2005 saw the end of new subscriptions on Cingular's "Blue" (former AT&T Wireless) network, except where corporate contracts mandated they remain available. A down side was a slight overall reduction in Average Revenue per User (ARPU), due to increasing competition between wireless carriers and bargain-basement pricing from resellers. Cingular also during the first quarter began touting independent drivetime testing results showing Cingular as the carrier with the fewest blocked, dropped or poor-quality calls, in a direct attack on Verizon Wireless's "It's the network" campaign.

[edit] Business services

Cingular is known for its enterprise services, offered through its Business Markets Group, a subsidiary company of the joint venture. It acquired a considerable stable of business clients through the acquisition of AT&T Wireless in 2004, and boasts that it currently serves over 90% of the Fortune 100 and over 80% of the Fortune 500. Cingular is also the largest provider of BlackBerry service in North America.

[edit] Marketing

[edit] Fewest Dropped Calls

During the first quarter of 2006, Telephia reported that during an extensive nationwide test of major wireless carriers, Cingular Wireless dropped the fewest number of calls across the country. Cingular in turn began advertising with more aggression the "Allover Network" citing Telephia as "the leading independent research company." This was in stark contrast to the Consumer Unions published "Consumer Reports" which slammed Cingular for static and dropped calls and J.D. Power and Associates' findings. (J.D. Power and Associates consistently puts Cingular in the bottom (or near the bottom) of their "overall customer satisfaction" list.)

Telephia initially refused to provide details on its study, and a spokesman for the company has said, according to the Boston Globe, that "Cingular shouldn't have even mentioned the company's name to a reporter." [12] The research company later stated that Cingular had a "statistically significant lower dropped-call rate than the competition across some market/time period groupings," but that Telephia had "no knowledge of the specific methodology... Cingular used to reach the nationwide 'lowest dropped call' conclusion."[13]

[edit] Revival of AT&T's Brand in Wireless

On November 20, 2005, Ed Whitacre, CEO of the newly-merged SBC/AT&T, announced plans to market Cingular's service under the AT&T Mobile banner.[14] BellSouth spokesman Jeff Battcher countered that the terms of the joint venture allow either party to sell the service under another name, and that he believes they will be using the brand to market to business customers. [15] Cingular president Stan Sigman concurred with BellSouth's position, indicating that the Cingular brand would continue but be sold under the AT&T brand where offered in packages with other AT&T services, such as data and wireline telephony.

However, AT&T, Inc. announced on March 5, 2006 [16] that it would acquire BellSouth. Once the Merger is complete AT&T will gain full ownership of Cingular, and will no longer need the neutral brand that its parent companies created. Even though the merger has yet to be cleared by federal regulators, in the fall of 2006 some Cingular ads began using the slogan "Part of the AT&T Family" below its logo and "Raising the Bar" tagline. Beginning in 2007, the Cingular brand will have a slow transition to the AT&T brand. The first expected change will be "AT&T Cingular" followed by just "AT&T".

[edit] Facts

* In 2005, Communications Workers of America, the union which represents over half of Cingular's employees, specifically recognized Cingular for excellence as a union employer, in direct contrast to competitor Verizon, which CWA singled out as an aggressive union-buster. * Cingular Wireless is the wireless carrier of the street racers in Electronic Arts' street racing video games Need for Speed: Underground 2 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It is used to receive SMS messages from other racers. This was one of the points of criticism in Underground 2, as the Cingular logo was featured as part of the game's driving interface in Career mode, and was thought to be a dubious method of product placement. * Although Cingular's network standard (GSM) is completely different from Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless, Cingular does offer Sprint and Verizon customers roaming on to their older AMPS network. * Cingular Wireless offers Push to talk (PTT) service using network technology from Kodiak Networks. * Cingular Wireless is the main sponsor for the No. 31 Chevrolet driven by Jeff Burton in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. As a side note, if AT&T completely phases out the Cingular brand, they will no longer be allowed to sponsor Burton's car, as the grandfather clause in Nextel's contract with NASCAR does not allow for this. (No phone companies are allowed to enter into new contracts to sponsor cars.)

[edit] Controversy

A class action lawsuit alleges that Cingular misled former AT&T Wireless customers after it was acquired in October of 2004 [2].

In June 2006 tech website Engadget's mobile section posted a road map of upcoming Cingular products, this lead to Cingular temporarily banning the word 'engadget' and links pointing to engadget on their customer forums.

On August 25, 2005, Cingular was removed from the New York Better Business Bureau because of a large number of complaints that were not handled in a timely manner. The company is in the process of restructuring its customer care procedures and has appealed the decision.[17] It remains a member of the BBB in other states in which it operates.

In 2004, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reported logging more than 14,000 complaints (or 289 per million subscribers) against Cingular Wireless. The most common of which included number portability issues, over-billing, poor customer support and network reliability.

In Q1 2006, Cingular Wireless, LLC reported in its first-quarter financial statement that regulatory complaints (complaints to the FCC, Better Business Bureaus and other regulatory or semiregulatory bodies) were reduced over 56% compared to the same quarter one year prior.

Motorola And Other Cellphone Company Plans

Cingular Wireless - all quad-band phones purchased from Cingular work in Greece (and all other countries using GSM, which is the vast majority). For example, you could purchase a Motorola Razor V3 (currently available with a new agreement on-line for $29.99) and it will work in Greece. Cingular has three roaming partners in Greece - Cosmote, Vodafone and TIM.

Voice and Data and 2-way text messaging throughout the country. If she will be in Athens, for example, there is very solid coverage. Cingular also offers Go-Phone international, which allows you to purchase international minutes without commitment. Rates for international minutes used in Greece are $2.29 per minute. You would need a Cingular Go-Phone (prices range from $29.99 to $99.99).

The cost of a 1-minute call (whether made or received) is $1.29. A text message sent is $0.50. You will, of course, also have to have a standard rate plan with Cingular ($39.99 for 450 minutes - these are minutes that only count within the US, all the minutes used outside the US are charged, as mentioned above). Be sure to request international roaming is added to the account. Also, there is a 90-day waiting period, typically, so be sure to get your service soon.

T-Mobile offers international roaming in Greece also and any quad-band T-Mobile phone will work there, as well. The cost per minute with T-Mobile is $1.49. T-Mobile has very similar coverage in Athens. They also have international text messaging at a lower cost than Cingular - $0.35 to send and $0.10 to receive. You can also have it pull from a bucket of messages (separate messaging plans). As with Cingular, you will need a standard rate plan from T-Mobile (similar costs).

Verizon Wireless also has roaming in Greece. You must purchase or rent one of their Global Phones since Greece only has GSM coverage (versus CDMA). There is one Motorola phone and two Samsung phones available. Prices for purchase are around $300.00. Costs for a 1-minute call while in Greece are $1.29 per minute. International text messaging is $.50 for sent text messages and $0.05 for received text messages. If you rent a Global phone, the rate is $3.99 per day and $1.49 for minute for usage.

With Sprint/Nextel, you would need a Nextel phone capable of working on the GSM network in Greece. There are about 4 models available including the i930 and V180 from Motorola. Calls are $1.29 per minute. International rentals are available for $45 per week (or $67 for a month and other rates for different periods of time). Calls are the same as above, $1.29 per minute. International text messages are $0.15 per message sent or received. Coverage is very similar to all three of the providers listed above.

If you don't currently have a cell phone plan for your daughter and only want the service while she is in Greece, you may want to consider Cingular's International Go-Phone or Verizon or Sprint's rental program. If you currently have a phone for her on the T-Mobile or Cingular network, then you may want to verify that it is a quad-band phone and if so, then just add international roaming and/or text messaging and know that it will cost you the per minute charge while she is in Greece.

I'm a big believer in not messing with cell phones, as it relates to trying to fix them. If the dial pad is not working, it sounds like something is connecting properly and it needs to be fixed. If you bought your phone through a wireless provider like Sprint, Verizon, Cingular or T-Mobile, you can send it in for a warranty/exchange if you bought the phone less than 12 months ago.

If you have had it longer than 12 months, but less than 24 months, you may want to try to get it repaired by Motorola. If it is over 24 months, I would suggest replacing it, since you would be eligible for a replacement after 24 months.

What''s an Unlocked Gsm Phone?

Nat Jay Technology/Mobile 2007-05-10
View Detail

GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications. And an Unlocked Phone is a GSM cell phone that accepts the SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card of any compatible network carrier.

Which means, if you have a GSM phone like Sony Ericsson P990i or Motorola RAZR V3 from Cingular (a GSM-compatible carrier) and you decide one day to shift to T-Mobile (another GSM-compatible carrier), all you have to do is to remove the SIM card allotted to you by Cingular and load in any active SIM card from T-Mobile.

That way, you don't need to buy a new phone if you plan on using a different carrier. All you do is change the SIM card and you're on the other network, seamlessly using their services.

However, this system doesn't work with CDMA or iDEN phones -- the two other kinds of wireless services. That's because, when you purchase these kinds of phones (from Verizon, Sprint and Nextel), your phone is basically "locked into" the service provider's database system and parameters. The phone and the service are, in a way, connected to each other and each other only. So if you're on the CDMA / iDEN network and want to shift from say Verizon to Sprint (or to Nextel), the most direct option you have is to buy a whole new cell phone for that new carrier.

It's for this reason that those who continually "hop" between multiple carriers and do not want to be bothered with compatibility issues, Unlocked GSM Phones from Cingular or T-Mobile are the way to go. The only downside to this is, if you buy your phone from Cingular, all the features, services and buttons on the phone are already pre-configured to those offered by Cingular. So when you decide to use that same phone with T-Mobile, those features (from Cingular) would technically be disabled on that new network.

But that's a minor downside to the flexibility and convenience that unlocked phones offer. And with the number of free cell phones (and almost free cell phones) available in the market, it shouldn't be hard to find the perfect fit between using your phone as-is with your default carrier, and making it work with other services as well.

From 3G to 4G

Sprint’s current 3G network, based on CDMA 1xRTT EV-DO Rev 0 technology covers more than a hundred cities in the USA. Verizon uses a similar technology. EV-DO Rev 0 allows download speeds up to about 1 megabit in real-life circumstances, but has very slow uploads. From there, both Sprint and Verizon are moving to EV-DO Rev A, which slightly improves download speeds and greatly improves upload speeds.

Cingular and T-Mobile are far behind in the 3G race. Cingular’s HSDPA system, which is about the same speed as EV-DO Rev 0, is only running in 18 cities. T-Mobile hasn’t deployed any form of 3G in the USA yet.

Mobile WiMax, otherwise known as 802.11e, will boost real-world download speeds to 2-4 megabits/second, said Sprint CEO, Gary Forsee.

“Much of this 4G usage will be user-generated content,” Forsee said. “Imagine accessing and building MySpace and YouTube literally on the fly.”

Sprint will make a relatively seamless transition to 4G thanks to dual-mode devices and a common applications platform across their 3G and 4G systems, Forsee said.

“As we deploy 4G services, there will be certain devices where we want to embed additional capabilities. It will be an application-based transition,” he said.

AT&T Creates The Largest Free Calling Community

With AT&T s recent acquisitions and consolidation, Cingular Wireless is now under the AT&T Inc. umbrella. In a massive move to re-brand its wireless acquisition, AT&T announced its new UnitySM plan to give subscribers access to the largest free calling community in the United States. The Unity plan will give wireless subscribers unlimited free calling to and from all other AT&T phones including wireless and wire-line phone numbers.

AT&T s Unity plan begins Sunday, January 21, 2007 and it is AT&T s first major product offering since AT&T s acquisition of BellSouth Corp. and its consolidation of Cingular Wireless. This plan is designed to bring together home, business and wireless calling together to create the largest calling community of more than 100 million AT&T wireless and wire-line numbers.

The Unity subscribers can make and receive calls free from any AT&T number nationwide without incurring any additional wire-line usage fees or without using their wireless anytime minutes. There are of course limitations to the plan. To be eligible, all calls must begin and end in the United States. In addition, all wireless voice mail calls, directory assistance calls, toll-free numbers, 900 numbers, international numbers, and dial-around numbers are not eligible for the free calling network. Note that the new AT&T Unity wireless plans do not include rollover minutes.

Furthermore to qualify for the new Unity network, customers must subscribe to both AT&T s wireless service and AT&T s unlimited local and long distance wire-line services. The new Unity plans are available in Individual plans and Family Talk plans ranging from $60 a month to over $300 per month. Another benefit of the plan will be the convenience of a single bill for all of the subscriber s wire-line and wireless services. The new network is available to all new and existing AT&T qualified residential and small business customers in the company s 22-state service area.

Early Info On The Apple Iphone

Madison Lockwood Computer/Computer 2007-02-14
View Detail

Apple Computers (Now Apple Inc.) has recovered from years of corporate doldrums through the introduction of an innovative line of computers but more importantly, through the phenomenal success of the iPod. Apple more or less created the market for personal digital MP3 players and has sold millions of units, along with millions of songs through their online music store.

Now the video world is coming into the handheld market - virtually every cell phone has a screen of some sort and the recent iPods have video screens as well. Apple's most recent product introduction is the much-hyped iPhone, which combines the functions of a cell phone, a "wide screen" iPod with touch controls, and an Internet communications device.

Apple has chosen to make an exclusive deal with Cingular, the AT&T cell phone network. Your only source for an iPhone will be through Cingular, along with a Cingular cellular service contract. They plan to make the product available in June. Back in the digital dark ages, Apple made the choice to keep their computer operating system in house, while Microsoft moved beyond IBM and licensed to any computer manufacturer who wanted it. It was the most important misstep that Apple has ever made, and is the reason that they will probably never extend beyond ten to twelve percent of the computer market. It will be interesting to see what happens when iPhone clones begin to appear in Verizon and other cell operator outlets.

The 4GB iPhone model will cost $499 with a two-year contract and $599 for the 8GB version (also with a two-year contract). Those are expensive phones, but Apple is in a unique position in that it has a dedicated core of iPod fans that may become Cingular converts. The iPhone's design is cutting edge: it has done away with keypads and with the exception of a "home" button the controls are operated on a 3.5 inch square touch screen.

According to early reviews the videos and photos look great. One giant touch screen controls the phone, the picture component and the videos - no stylus needed. For text messaging, there will be an onscreen keyboard - again controlled by touch.

Apple's iTunes store has gone into the video business, most recently negotiating a distribution contract with Paramount. Videos are downloaded onto the iPhone the same way that music is: through a wired connection to your computer. Apple's decision to push the viability of the iPhone as a video viewing device raises a couple of questions. The first is how satisfactory watching a movie on a three and a half inch screen will be, and the second is whether or not 8GB is enough to manage a library of music and video content. The current largest video iPod model has 60GB of space, in comparison.

For Internet and video functionality, the iPhone runs on the most recent Mac operating system. It has a 2 megapixel camera and promises support for Google maps, conference calling, and text and multimedia messaging. In short, all the features are included that young people use their phones for today, along with increasing numbers of traveling execs. The iPhone has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and includes both email software and a browser.

If you judge by the hype, Apple is betting big on the iPhone. It's worth noting, however, that Steve Jobs is pretty good at hyping every new Apple product. But the integration of telecommunications, video, and full blown Internet interconnectivity into the revered iPod is a major step - and the cell service completes an impressive multimedia package. It should be interesting.

What is this year’s hottest holiday gift?

Rajeev Patnia Home Family/Holidays 2008-04-12
View Detail
When your friends and family gather around the tree on Christmas morning to see what “Santa” brought them, you don’t have to be there in person to enjoy the looks on everyone’s faces. Get them a camera phone equipped with Multimedia Messaging (MMS) and they’ll be able to send you an instant message of thanks.

“Whether your loved ones live in the next town or on the other side of the country, you’ll be able to experience their joy instantly,” says Andy Wilson, vice president of marketing for Cingular Wireless, the second largest wireless carrier in the nation.

New camera phones equipped with MMS are one of the hottest gift ideas for the season because they make a lasting impression. They allow users to send photos with voice messages, music, text, and graphics instantly to wireless phones or to e-mail accounts.

“Wireless technology has made a quantum leap in just the past year. Conversations are crisper, enhanced services are on the rise, and multimedia messaging services that allow you to share photos instantly are becoming more extensive and widely available. The fact that these phones are so versatile almost guarantees they’ll be big sellers during the holiday season,” says Wilson.

If you decide to buy one for yourself, or as a gift, here are a few things you should do before making a purchase:

* Shop around for an MMS phone that’s easy to use. The process for sending a message should be simple -- take the picture, record the voice message, add the text and send. If it gets more complicated, look elsewhere.

* Shop around and examine pricing plans -- some providers offer promotions allowing unlimited use of their messaging services for a set fee. Others will charge you a fee each time you send a message.

* Ask if you will you be charged additional airtime or kilobytes in addition to your per message charge when sending and/or receiving MMS messages.

* Find out if you can send the same message to multiple people without being charged for each person on the distribution list.

* Ask if you can send and receive MMS messages while roaming.

MMS phones range in price from $20 for phones with a digital camera attachment to over $199, for phones with a built-in camera. For more information about Cingular’s MMS services, log onto www.cingular.com/mms.

Samsung Cell Phones, A Stunning Winner In Blackjack

Wycliffe Williams Technology/Mobile 2007-01-29
View Detail

Samsung cell phones have its roots deeply imbedded in Korea. The word Samsung means three stars in Korean. The business was started in 1938. In their humble beginnings they sold fruit, vegetables and candy machines. Over the years they have become well known for their cell phones. If you own a Samsung handset, you own a quality instrument.

Currently the cell phone industry is a larger than life industry. It has contributed a staggering $92 billion to the US coffers. It is a mega monster industry. Be that as it may, with the cell phone you can still record a family video at Disneyland and beam it to grandma over in Boise, Idaho. Mobile phones have emerged as a versatile and user friendly component of life today.

Consider their sexy smart phone the Blackjack. It was introduced to the public on November 2006. The Blackjack will go head to head with Verizons Motorola Q and T Mobiles Dash.

It comes out of the Cingular Wireless stable and will sport the Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition. This strong competitor comes stacked with music subscription services and desktop video.

The music subscription service of Yahoo, Music Unlimited, Napster, and the recently launched Cingular Music Store are all compatable with Blackjack. In addition, it has great stereo sound and can handle Bluetooth.

Blackjack has a user friendly feel and checks in as thin as the Q. For the guys, when you pull this puppy out the girls ask questions. This smart phone is backed up by Cingulars cutting egde 3G Network, as well as EDGE. These networks are GSM based. Unlike the Q, Blackjack can go international.

This smart phone carries under its hood high speed 3G internet access. Not only does it surf the net fast, it also has fast download speed; something the Dash does not have. Again, this can be performed home and as well as overseas.

The Cingular HSDPA network has the unique ability to dance a two step. It can do data and voice at the same time. Verizon Wireless has the EVDO network and they can only dance one step at a time. They cannot do both.
Do you listen to radio? This is the smart phone for you. It sports a built in XM radio component that will allow you to access ten XM channels. It is also compatible with Cingulars video streaming service.

As if this is not enough, consider the user friendly QWERTY keyboard, email, and messenger programs. Not only can the Blackjack handle your serious business needs, you will have loads of fun operating this top class smart phone.

Ways to Unlock Motorola Phones

unlock cellphone Computer/Software 2007-06-08
View Detail

When you buy a new phone it is usually locked to your operators net. This means that you will be able to use your phone only with this operator, and no other nets. Unlocking your phone removes the lock without changing anything in your phone (no hardware, no firmware) so that you can use your phone with other mobile operators.

There are mainly two ways to remove sim-lock remotedly:

1. imei unlock.

you send you imei to unlocking service and they send you your subsidy password. Imei unlocking can be done by remote services from a certain provider, like:

Unlock from Cingular on www.moto-lady.com:

Cingular.html>Unlock any handset from Cingular

or Unlock from T-Mobile on www.fineunlock.com:

Unlock any handset from T Mobile

or, in other case, they can offer imei unlock of any motorola phone from any provider:

Motorola Unlock from any provider

i.e. any V3 RAZR Unlock:

RAZR Unlock

The good thing about imei unlocking is that you don't need anything but to know your imei. The disadvantage is that you will have to wait about 48 hours to get the code.

2. Software unlock.

Cell phones unlocking software removes the need for subsidy password, and, after unlocking, you are able to use your unlocked phone in any place of the world — with any network and any provider. You can choose the cheapest services and even take your unlocked phone with you when you travel and avoid roaming charges. Save money and enjoy free communication with your unlocked phone! You will need only a USB cable and the advantage of the method is that you unlock your phone instantly.

V3 RAZR Unlock

Motorola A1000 Unlock

Motorola mpx200 Unlock

Motorola V505 Unlock

Motorola V551 Unlock

and others.

Today, there are many services that take your money and do not provide any real service. To avoid fraud, we recommend you to choose web-sites, which already have a good reputation and have customer support forum with positive or neutral feedback, i.e. www.moto-lady.com for motorola unlock. www.fineunlock.com for motorola, blackberry, treo, HTC smartphone, and even iPhone unlock.
