Social Care Jobs

Social Care
Social care is one of the major public service areas. In England, the responsibility to provide social care services rests principally with local councils. At any one time, up to 1.5 million of the most vulnerable people in society are relying on social workers and support staff for help. Social care services also make a major contribution to tackling social exclusion. Currently, modernising social services is a national priority, and to have the greatest effect this must happen in conjunction with the modernisation of the NHS.

About social care
The term 'social care' covers a wide range of services, which are provided by local authorities and the independent sector. Social care comes in many forms, such as care at home, in day centres or by way of residential or nursing homes. The term also covers services such as providing meals on wheels to the elderly, home help for people with disabilities and fostering services.

Role of social care work in the United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom and elsewhere, a social worker is a trained professional with a recognised social job qualification, employed most commonly in the public sector by local authorities.
Spending on social services departments is a major component of British local government expenditure.
In the UK, the title "social worker" is protected by law (since 1 April 2005) and can be used only by people who have a recognised qualification and are registered with the Care target=_blank>General Social Care Council (in England), the Scottish Social Services Council, the Care Council for Wales or the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
The strategic direction of statutory social job in Britain is broadly divided into children's and adults' services. Social work activity within England and Wales for children and young people is under the remit of the Department for Education and Skills while the same for adults remains the responsibility for the Department of Health. Within local authorities, this division is usually reflected in the organisation of social services departments. The structure of service delivery in Scotland is different.
In 2007, the General Social Care Council launched a wide-ranging consultation, in concert with a number of other social care organisations, to agree a clear professional understanding of social work in the UK.

ng from his dog. As he ran outside he saw his poor pet come limping to the backyard with blood running all down his head as well as his paw.

With no dog care kit around the house he didn't know what to do so he called for help. The animal hospital was closed and so without immediate assistance he had to wait hours upon hours for his dog to get help, and without any available dog care in the meanwhile.

Had he at least had a dog care first aid kit he could have helped clean the wounds up a bit. Because it was so late in getting help, his dog developed a major infection. Moral of the story? Have a first aid dog care kitAre you equipped with the proper dog care first aid items in case your lovable dog gets hurt or bitten somehow while roaming outside, or even in the backyard? My neighbor certainly learned his lesson when it came to not having the right dog care kit available.

One afternoon my neighbor's dog was out roaming the country side on his 5 acre property and within an hour he heard the most frightening yelping and crying noises comi available in case of emergencies.

Consumer: Acne sufferers

The purpose of the Scar Care product is to fade scars caused by acne or other incidents.

Pros: Even after a zit appears and finally goes away, there is often a scar left as a permanent reminder of the event. There are many treatments for acne scarring, many of which include surgery. Scar Care has been approved by the FDA as a scar reducing treatment and is available without a prescription. Many doctors recommend it to their patients who have scars left over from acne eruptions.

Scar Care is a two-part system that works to reduce scars 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No compression bandaging is required. Scar Care provides occlusion and compression that is necessary to flatten and fade scars of any age. Scar care employs technology combining medical grade silicone gel sheeting with vitamin E and benzalkonium chloride. Scar Care is reusable and stays tacky for up to three full months.

Cons: Doctors often advise their patients to use Scar Care as an over-the-counter scar-reducing treatment. I could find no cons associated with this product.

Guarantee: There is a guarantee that reads in part, “Just4Beauty.com offers a limited money back guarantee for fourteen (14) days on UNOPENED products only. Sales on opened or used products are final.”

Good research has resulted into writing this article for you, I hope it helps.

Day care, whether it falls under commercial or home day care, should always be thoroughly checked out before the little one is enrolled, the baby sitter hired or any form of agreement signed. This ensures the parent’s own peacefulness of mind as well as the safety of the child.

Day care services are provided by nurseries, churches, crèches, and professional / retired child minders working from their homes and even by some business establishments for the gain of workings parents.

After a preliminary phone audience with the centre or sitter, it is obviously essential to meet the care givers in person so you can make a better judgement about their abilities. In the case of day care centers, a personal visit will enable you to see the facilities and surroundings your kid will be moving in without having to depend on second hand information.

The term day care applies to the long term, regular and, often, every day care of a child, during the parents’ absence at specific times of the day. Like during the time when they’re at work.

While a licensed day care centre would automatically provide quality care on a each day basis, home day care providers can sometimes be passing irregular. This inconveniences parents and also upsets the schedule of the child, who has got exploited to the way his day should progress.

Home day care providers would ideally be responsible, competent individuals with prior experience in the field. The child would be comfortable around them, and the sitters would be able to provide the names of at lowest two referees who were satisfied with their services. Be sure to call up the referees and check....please read more on a site that is all about this topic and more....

This article was written to provide you with knowledge about the subject I appreciate you taking your time to read it.

Customer Care

Tim Millett Business/Business 2008-03-05

How do you take care of your customers? More to the point, how would you define that term? Do you see it as taking care of things when they go wrong, to make sure that everything turns out right in the end? Or do you see it as the need to constantly perform actions – both large and small – on a daily basis, to ensure that the minimum of errors occur in the first place? In truth, outstanding customer care covers both of these areas and many more besides. It is an ongoing task that every single team member can influence every time they present themselves for work. Even if some members of an organisation do not come directly into contact with the customer, they still have a bearing on the overall experience that a customer has. Put simply, if the goal of the organisation is to make money, then the function of the organisation (and every person in it – whatever their level) is to actively work towards the acquisition and maintenance of customers. Without them, organisations could not exist and the money goes elsewhere. If rules are made by people further up the chain of command which have a pronounced detrimental effect on the service received by customers, then the negative reaction from the customer will be most directly felt by the person they are dealing with. From there however, that team member will go to their superior with the problem at hand, and the issue will travel up the chain of command – perhaps to the very top. Conversely, if rules and procedures are introduced which will actively facilitate front line staff in their delivery of superior service to customers, they will feel the positive effects from their customers helping to promote a positive work environment and good morale. This is why the role of customer care is vital for every single person in an organisation to fully understand, as everyone can have a significant impact on it. Good customer care should minimise the amount of errors that take place, which in turn frees up more time to improve the service that is being offered in the first place. Communication and openness are essential to maintain within a business if good customer care is to continue over time. Everyone has a right to have input where customer care is concerned, and it is often the ideas of those who are most directly in touch with customers that accurately reveal where improvements could be made. In short, outstanding customer care is a team effort – one that is ongoing and vital to the continued success of any business. Timothy Millett, head trainer at i perform, has extensive expertise in performance training, sales training and customer service training. Tim has helped participants from organisations such as SWIFT and UBS achieve peak levels of personal performance. For more information please visit Leadership.

Baby care

The care of a baby is very important for its growth and development. The care of a baby should be done both professionally and gently. The amount of care that is given to a baby greatly reflects in the later stages of a person’s life. It builds the basic character of a person. Therefore complete care should be given to a baby. All its needs should be fulfilled emotionally, physically and mentally. If complete care is not taken of the baby, the baby may not grow up to be a healthy person or the person can have various disorders in his later life.

A baby is very delicate. Almost anything and every thing have a great impact on the baby. How a baby grows up is greatly influenced by its surroundings and the people around him. The first and the foremost thing that should be noted is that the baby should be kept in a safe and secure environment. This means that if should be not too humid or damn as the baby might catch a cold. It should also be free from sharp objects. The lesser the medicines or antibiotics that are given to the baby the better it is.

The baby should be given a massage regularly. A regular message helps the bones of the baby to grow and set properly. It also helps in the growth of the baby and the development of strong bones. With a proper massage everyday, the baby will in no time be able to walk on its own acquiring balance and stability on its legs. The baby should be always kept in clean and dry diapers. This is to avoid rashes and infections. Also a baby in clean diapers will be happy and healthy.

One of the most important parts of baby care is breast feeding. A mother’s milk is the best source of nourishment for human babies. There is no substitute for mother’s milk in the diet of humans. Also many experts agree that breast feeding has many physiological effects on the baby. Therefore proper breast feeding of the baby is a must. The infant for the first two years of his life must be breast fed properly for a healthy growth of the child. Also breastfeeding passes on many anti bodies on the child’s body. This helps the child develop a strong immune system and combat many diseases that might affect it effectively. Also breast feeding strengthens that bond between a mother and her baby.

When the child is a little older a feeding bottle can be used to feed the child. Essentially a feeding bottle is used to feed baby milk. It should be held in proper angles so that the milk can flow down effectively from the bottle. The teat of the bottle must at all definite times be kept clean and sterilized. If possible a new teat should be used every time while feeding the baby although some babies might find adjusting to a new teat all the time uncomfortable.
Attention should be paid to the nature of the baby and care should be taken to ensure its proper growth. A good care of the baby is the very basic of good parenting.

Infant Care

Jack Smith Home Family/Parenting 2007-07-03

Caring the infant is not an easy task and requires special care and attention. They have no means of communicating except their cries. An Infant has to be given a balanced diet in all stages of their growth to enable them to be healthy and strong. They should be vaccinated in time to prevent them from viral attacks, which make them fall sick.

Essential things to consider for infant care

Diapering your Baby: It is easy to become an expert at changing your baby's diaper -- just wash your hands, gather the following items and make sure you keep everything out of your baby's reach:

A fresh diaper: If you are using a cloth diaper, you will need either a clean diaper cover or pins and waterproof pants.

Baby-wash supplies: Diaper wipes or, if your baby is just one month or has diaper rash, cotton balls and warm water for cleaning and a small towel for drying.

Ointment: If necessary, for diaper rash (preferably one containing zinc oxide)

Cornstarch-based Powder: If needed, which should be applied to your hand and not shaken on your baby to prevent it from getting into your baby's lungs

Swaddling your Baby: The first few weeks in the wide-open world can be unsettling for your newborn baby who recently emerged from the closeness of the womb. Swaddling, or wrapping your baby in a blanket can help him feel secure as he adjusts to his new environment.

Swaddling is effective for the first few weeks after birth. After one month, swaddling, which inhibits movement, can restrict your baby's development. Do not swaddle a baby in an especially warm room because overheating is a risk factor. If your baby does not enjoy being swaddled, it is fine. Holding your baby in a sling-type carrier is another best way to help your child feel safe and secure.

Bathing Your Baby

Bath time can be a wonderful and loving experience for both you and your baby. Here is some advice for approaching the task with good sense and confidence.

You may need to spot-clean daily in areas that get particularly sweaty, oily or dirty: the diaper area, face, neck and skin creases. Before you begin, make sure you have everything you need: Washcloth, Mild soap, Baby shampoo, Cotton balls, hooded towel, Rubbing alcohol, Cotton swabs, Diaper, and Clean clothes.

There are many recognized Child Care centres across the world, which provides infant care services to cater to the needs of the working parents. These services are exclusively provided for infants between the age group of 2 months to 18 months. In addition to providing with reliable care services, they strive to meet and develop the physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs of the infant in a safe and conducive environment.

These centres are also equipped with trained and registered nurses or qualified infant care teacher to attend to the basic health and safety requirements of the infants. Additionally these Child Care Centres are also regulated by the rules and regulations of the Child Care Centres Act.

Kitten Care

Your little girl has been asking for a kitten ever since her friend down the street got one and you’ve come to the point where it’s getting hard to resist her pleading little eyes. So you give in quite easily and take her down to the pet store, because let’s face it, you had always wanted a kitten when you were smaller as well. Before you actually go and get your kitten however, you might first want to consider what type of kitten you want. Sure they all look adorable with their big eyes when they’re still very young, but you have to realize that they’ll grow one day and you will have to live with your choice. And don’t forget that you’ll need to give the kitten care and love for a long time to come.

You might have only promised the kitten to your daughter on the basis that she look after the kitten by herself, but if you’re realistic you’ll know that there’s no way you’re going to let the poor thing go to rack and ruin when she does forget to look after it. And she will forget all about her kitten care will be the last thought on her mind, and you will be saddled with the kitten. She’s still too small and you knew that when you gave in to the whole kitten idea, so ultimately like everything else, the kitten care giving bit has now become your responsibility.

So how do you give your kitten care and love the way it needs to be done. Well first of all, the love part of this whole thing should be quite easy as you almost always fall under the spell of their big, wide eyes which will always seem to be staring up at you. For full details and information on what you will need to do for your kitten care wise that is, you should go see your vet.

They’ll also tell you what you need to do to keep your kitten happy and contented. You’ll be told that you need to give shots to your kitten care will also need to be taken to ensure that she doesn’t get into any scrapes or the like.

Kittens are also notorious for climbing up anything and everything that is within their sights so don’t be too surprised if you come home one day to find your lace drapes torn from top to bottom because the little critter climbed up them and couldn’t get a good enough grip.

When you go to get a kitten then, kitten care and everything that goes along with that should be uppermost in your mind. Your kitten should be healthy and well loved and able to boast to all the other little kittens it meets that he has found the perfect pets to keep him in the lap of luxury.

Car Care

IT'S HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF IT

No matter how old your car is, it's all about how you really take care of it. Your car is not only a valuable hardware that takes you to, and from, work, family outings or your gang's escapades. It does not only help you in times of emergency trips (not easy to get a cab in the middle of the night.)

While you may value your PC and cell phone as your most indispensable tools, your car is your unsung hero. It is the first thing you see and use, the moment you step out of your house; it is the last thing you see before you end your day and "park" yourself in the comforts of your home.

You mustn't have realized that, if not properly maintained and cared for, your car could be the first thing that could ruin your day if it doesn't start, or if it suddenly stalls midway to your office or to that life-changing executive meeting.

HOW YOU CARE FOR YOUR CAR REFLECTS ON YOUR PERSONALITY

While you take so much pride in your gadgets, e.g., iPone, iPod, laptop, etc., as reflective of who and what you are, you must not neglect that your car is your main show window when you're out there in the sun. It is sad to note that while some owners take a lot of effort in getting the right car color, accessories, model and brand that would "fit their personalities," they forget to consider that how they maintain and care for this same car several years later is what would really reflect on their personalities.

For a city dweller, driving around with days-old mud on your fenders, when it's not even raining, is like walking around the office with muddy shoes. For some, this is ok. This is precisely what we're talking about-different personality characteristics.

Here are some comparisons that may surprise you:

Your car have some "funny" out-of-place noise, emits a lot of smoke, frequently stalls - do you exercise or at least engage in some sweat- inducing sports like tennis, badminton, or occasional basketball? It would be a good project to conduct a survey in parking spaces of spas, gyms, and other sports facilities and see what percentage of cars are out of shape (regardless of age!)

When someone enters your car, a "funny" smell welcomes him/her (you might not know this anymore as you got immune to it) - are you particular about your hygiene? Do you wear the same clothes for more than a day? How about showers?

Days-old dust on your windshield, misaligned bumper, mud on fenders, bird droppings on hood - do you pay attention to the clothes you wear? How about your hair? And, in worst cases, are your teeth yellowish or brownish with nicotine?

HAVE STYLE AND FLAIR

Regardless of the age of your car, the following comparisons would still apply:

Great stereo set-up - is your cell phone the latest or at least the "smart" loaded-full of features one?

Clean, waxed, shiny condition rain or shine - are you fashion conscious, or at least someone who have a good taste in clothes?

And most importantly:

Your car performs well and looks well despite its age - are you the dependable type? The leader? Takes care of things? Responsible? And, regardless of your physical features and age, are you the "attractive" type?

Don't neglect your car and project a winning personality.

We tend to focus on improving our skin condition and complexion by using proper skin care products and follow our daily skin care regime. And yet, we never seems to care so much about our lip, neck and other parts of our body.

Talking about the lip area, the delicate area where lipsticks are applied onto it quite often or even daily to enhance your beauty. Some of you have a thick lip, some will have thin lip. The lip area is so delicate and sensitive that, the appearance of vertical lines and dull texture around the lip and in the lip area, are signs of aging without proper care. As you age, your lip becomes hyper sensitive and prone to dryness, lip crack, chapped and flaky, which may cause pain and discomfort when talking or eating.

Several factors which causes lip dryness, lip crack, lip chapped, lip peeling or irritation include changes of season, climate and weather, using the wrong types of lipsticks or lip liner, insufficient moisturizing, food allergies, poor circulation result in dull appearance, and environment pollution.

Use a moisturizing lip balm to repair your delicate lip area from time to time. If you have to use a lipstick, try to use a moisturizing lip stick, and add a thin layer of lip balm formulated with sun protection properties.

There are many types of lip balm which you can choose to protect your lips according to your lip condition – from a cream type for very dry and severe condition, moisturizing gel type for daily use, 2-in-1 lipstick and balm formula which is very convenient, to an easy to carry stick type. If you run out of a lip balm during emergency, quickly pick a natural based face moisturizer, apply a thin layer on your lip gently for temporary use. Or another way is,if you take vitamin E at home, break one vitamin E capsule and massage onto your lip, then leave it overnight.

A soothing lip balm contains gentle and mild ingredient, suitable for everyone of all ages, including children who suffer from sensitive lip problems such as chapped, flaky lips. However, as for very young children and babies, it is advisable to use a petroleum jelly to soothe and repair chapped and flaky lip, avoid using lip balms which are recommended for adults unless it is stated.

In order to slow down lip aging, try a simple solution to soften and visibly reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines and lip dehydration. You may do it at the same time with your DIY facial and eye treatment or on its own. Let us call this a DIY lip treatment.

Just remember, once a weekly only – cleanse, exfoliate, repair and moisturize your lip to feel the difference and delay lip aging. You will look great.

Pearl Care

To keep your pearls in perfect condition and maintain their luster and brilliance, you have to keep several things in mind. First of all, you must understand that pearls are organic substances and therefore need special care. They will easily get damaged by any harsh material that comes in contact with them.

To keep pearls looking their very best you need just a little knowledge on how to care for them correctly.

All pearls, including freshwater pearls are delicate organic gems that are made of the natural product called calcium carbonate. This product is drawn from the lake or river by the mussel that the pearl lives in. Pearls were once living and growing so you will have to take special care to keep them from harm. Ironically, the products that harm pearls most are the very things that the woman uses always uses. These are perfumes, hair sprays and cosmetics and face creams she will definitely use. These grooming products and other household chemicals if sprayed near pearls can build up on the pearl and damage the luster. The nacre can become marked, dull and pitted. They will tend to loose the exquisite luminous luster that defines a pearl.

Rules of Pearl Care

The most important point to remember to prevent damage to your pearls is by following the golden rule of putting your pearls on as the last thing you do when finishing your grooming. Put the pearls on after you have applied make up, perfume and hair sprays, never before. Never spray perfume on the neck area where the pearls will actually rest. Also avoid touching your pearls when you have just applied hand cream. If you need to reapply hair spray at some time, slip the pearls off for a moment and put them well out of range. Likewise make pearls the first thing you remove after a night out. Only after this you may remove your makeup, wipe your face and neck with cleansers or facial wipes, or night creams. Soon as you remove your pearls wipe them with a soft damp cloth. Buff them occasionally with a silk cloth to enhance their shine and luster. Be careful not fling them in a jumble on the dressing table; instead ensure that you put them back in their original container.
Storage

Mostly pearls are sold with a silk jewellery pouch and this is the best way to store your pearls. Velvet lined boxes with separate compartments are also safe to use as are chamois leather pouches. When pearls are transported, they may be wrapped in bubble wrap for protection, but you should never store the pearls in this plastic long term.

If you throw pearls into a jewel box full of other tangled jewellery your pearls will soon lose their lustrous sparkle, the surface will become scratched, wires will become bent and clasps scratched.

Floor Care

Carpet Care

Let's start by saying that the most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your new carpet or rug is to vacuum it. Regular vacuuming removes those nasty dirt particles that leave it looking dingy over time and abrade the fiber, which shortens its lifespan. Use a vacuum that has a rotating brush or beater bar, which stimulates the carpet tufts and loosens the dirt and soil. (Plus, schedule regular professional cleanings to remove soil accumulation that your regular vacuum can't reach.) If your area rug has a fringe, make sure it's sewn on well, and use the vacuum carefully.

If you have a thick carpet and want to remove any tracks the vacuum makes (it's called shading), you might try vacuuming in one direction, and then smoothing the carpet surface by hand.

You can help to reduce wear in your carpet by occasionally alternating your furniture placement to change the "traffic lanes" and allow the carpet to wear more uniformly. Be sure to vacuum these specific areas more often to reduce dirt particles, which can lead to matting too.

Vinyl Flooring Care

Caring for a vinyl floor is fairly easy, but there are some general rules.
Vacuum regularly to remove grit and sand, and wash your floor occasionally with the manufacturer's recommended floor cleaner. (Never use abrasive cleaners, soaps, paste waxes or solvents, though.) Also, to keep sand and grit from being tracked onto the floor, non-staining walk-off mats should be placed at every outside entry to the room.

Dull-looking vinyl floors can be restored to their original gloss with the manufacturer's recommended floor polish - but first, try cleaning to make sure a film on the floor isn't causing the dullness. With inexpensive PVC floors, you should consider using 2-3 coats of polish - any vinyl floor with a PVC wearlayer (that's a fancy name for surface) shows scuffs, scratches, and other marks very easily and by adding those coats of polish you'll make the floor easier to maintain.

When moving heavy objects across a vinyl floor, place plywood sheets down first and move the object over them.

Area Rug Care

Let's start by saying that the most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your new carpet or rug is to vacuum it. Regular vacuuming removes those nasty dirt particles that leave it looking dingy over time and abrade the fiber, which shortens its lifespan. Use a vacuum that has a rotating brush or beater bar, which stimulates the carpet tufts and loosens the dirt and soil. (Plus, schedule regular professional cleanings to remove soil accumulation that your regular vacuum can't reach.) Laminate Flooring Care

Laminate floors will give you years of sturdy life if you follow some regular maintenance tips.

Start by vacuuming your floor regularly using soft brush attachments. Wipe with a damp cloth or damp mop when necessary.

Even though these floors are extremely durable, they can be scratched, so you want to protect the floor from grit and sharp objects at all times. And always use felt pads or wide based casters underneath all chair and furniture legs. When moving heavy objects across the floor, use extra care and place walk off mats by all exterior doorways.

There are some "don'ts" when it comes to laminate floors, too. They should not be polished or waxed, and you should never use steel wool or harsh abrasive cleaners on them.

And never, ever try to refinish or sand a laminate floor.

Hardwood Flooring Care

To keep your hardwood floor looking beautiful, there are some simple procedures you should follow.

Vacuum regularly and use non-staining mats at exterior entrances to keep sand, dirt, grease, and oil outside.

To protect your floor's finish, use pads underneath furniture legs to help prevent scratching, and, while we're on the subject, keep all your pets nails trimmed, too. Along that same line, when moving any heavy objects (like furniture or appliances, for instance), use a dolly and protective sheets of plywood on the floor.

When cleaning the floor, always use the manufacturer's recommended cleaning procedures. Avoid getting water on the floor, too, as it may cause the wood grain to rise, or the boards to cup.

And be careful about exposure to the sun, because UV rays do the same thing to wood that they do to skin: accelerate the aging, which causes the wood stain to change color.

Climate Care

Lucien Oliveira Reference Education/Environmental 2008-01-22

For many years, we have been taking our environment for granted. We have been letting nature itself fix what we have been altering. But several things have shown us how wrong we are, and the climate changes are one of them. It is quite clear that scientists from all over the world disagree on the levels of such alterations and the risks it offers, but what we know for sure is that, no matter how much it affects our planet, it is definitely happening. Therefore, we must start caring about our environment, and this means caring about the climate.

Global warming is affecting the entire world as we know it. Snow and ice are melting in a faster pace causing the sea levels to rise and consequently threatening several species, such as the polar bear which is being left without no natural habitat. The polar bear needs the ice to survive, and even in Alaska, there are moving up north in search of better grounds. Moreover, we have been witnessing many floods, devastating storms, droughts, which mean damages to ecosystems and their species. What happens is that people are taking too long to realise is that even a small change in the average temperature has huge effects on our planet. But, the signs are everywhere. Even the USA, which refused to cooperate with the world's struggle to reduce CO2 emissions, is now experiencing its consequences. There have been more catastrophic hurricanes assaulting the country than ever seen before. Even the USA national parks are under threat, affecting several animals, including their wildlife symbol, the grizzly bear. As we can see, climate care is vital at this point.

We all know what is causing so many events: the greenhouse effect phenomenon. But what cause such phenomenon? Mainly, it is caused by methane, nitrous oxide, and especially CO2 emissions. Furthermore, most of these emissions are due to the use of fossil fuels (oil, gas, and coal burning), to chopping down forests, and farming, which alone is responsible for half of all emissions. Next on the list is energy consumption. Simply, the cost for the environment is too high. We must help protect the Earth; we must care about the climate if we want things to have a different ending. It is past the time to start doing something about it.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is essential. All our day-to-day activities have an impact: flying, driving, heating our home, using electric devices, etc. So, we should start at reducing fossil fuel consumption by having well insulated houses, by switching off whatever is not being use, by driving less and taking public transportation more, exchanging old devices by energy efficient ones, avoiding plastic product, recycling, controlling our waste, among others. In addition, there is a new trend which involves calculating the amount of CO2 one produces and offsetting it. Offsetting here means compensating our CO2 emissions by funding projects on renewable energy, forest restoration, energy saving, etc. There are several websites that provide such calculation, for example www.climatecare.com. Many companies and a great deal of people are adopting this trend. It is easy to become environmentally friendly. Because if you care about what our future generations are going to inherit, you must care about the climate and the alterations it provokes on our planet.

Camcorder Care

A camcorder is a talented filming tool that is increasingly popular with consumers as their size continues to dwindle. Learning to operate the various features generally absorbs the attention of new owners understandably. However, gaining knowledge of how to care for a new camcorder is equally important to assure continued optimal performance and longevity.

What are the critical tips that can assure the well being of these devices? There is nothing magic here. A camcorder is a fairly expensive and complex device but much of the care it requires is similar to that for any electronic device or camera.

• Avoid exposing the camcorder to water. Only a very slightly damp cloth can be used to clean the exterior; it's best to use cleaners suggested by the manufacturer.

• Protect the camcorder from dust, dirt, and scratches by keeping it in its case when not in use. Cover the lens with the cap.

• Be protective of the lens. Avoid touching the lens of the camcorder with fingers as the oil from a person's skin can gradually erode some of the protective surface. Avoid pointing the camcorder lens directly into the sun and use an ultraviolet lens filter for added protection. Use only manufacturer approved cleaners/tissues on the lens to avoid damage. Windex, a shirt tail, and facial tissue should not be used.

• Internal cleaning should be handled by professionals. It is usually acceptable however to run a head-cleaner type of cassette on appropriate camcorders at least annually.

• Be gentle when operating the camcorder; especially when loading any tape into devices that use such media. Tapes should not be forced in, and you should push to facilitate loading only on the surface where it indicates to push. Patience is golden as the process can be somewhat slow.

• Cleaning the viewfinder and/or LCD screen of the camcorder should also involve only approved cleaners and a non abrasive cloth; for instance, a micro-fiber cloth.

• Charge batteries per the manufacturers guidelines. Generally, batteries should be run down completely and then given a full recharge. In addition, batteries should not be stored in the camcorder itself.

Reading through the manufacturers instructions can shed a great deal of light on the proper care and maintenance of any product but knowing just the few tips above can get new owners started.

Leather Care

Ron Winsor Reference Education/online education 2007-10-19

The care of your leather is not just about making it look nice it is about extending the life of your leather goods and preserving the look for the long term.

Regardless of how much you spent on your leather product, conditioning and protection from dust, dirt, snow, rain and even sun always makes sense.

Keeping your leather product in wonderful condition will eleminate the need to buy replacements as often, so you'll be saving money just by investing a small amount of time and effort.

Research and years of common use have made it clear that leather is one of the strongest and most durable materials produced for wear. If you are looking for a long term solution for style, strength, warmth, convenience and character, depending on use, with preventative maintenance and proper care of a leather product can last indefinitely.

Leather can dry out until it eventually cracks and falls apart with out proper care and conditioning.

Unprotected leather is susceptible to water spotting and/or staining, we recommend the use of a water and stain protector, if available. These are usually available in an aerosol spray and are orderless and colorless ( will not change the color of the leather ) when dry.

Always hang your leatherjackets on wide hangers (Preferably , a wide padded hanger or a wooden hanger). Avoid using a wire hanger.

DO NOT store your leather in a non-porus or plastic garment bag. LEATHER needs to breathe, if you must store it in a garment bag leave the bag unzipped or use a breathable garment bag meant specifically for the storage of leather. Leather is a material that needs air to prevent it from drying out.If you live in an unusually dry environment, use leather conditioner regularly to prevent the leather from drying or cracking.

Wrinkles should fade away while the jacket is on the hanger. We DO NOT recommend ironing. However if ironing is absolutely necessary, set the iron to the lowest setting, place heavy paper (like brown paper bag) over the area to be ironed, and keep the contact short and quick to prevent burning or shine. Use the iron "dry" NEVER use steam.

Eye Care

Your eyes may be a tiny part of your body, but they play a large role in how you experience the world. They help you sense motion and color, intuit facial expressions and body language and see the wonders of your life in three dimensions. Here's what you need to know to keep your peepers in top form.

* Exam Essentials

Even if you have no problem with your vision, regular eye exams are critical to eye health, says Justin L. Gottlieb, M.D., a retina specialist and associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison.

* Who Provides Eye Care?

Ophthalmologists-medical doctors who specialize in eyes-provide total eye care, prescribing corrective lenses, diagnosing and treating eye problems, and performing surgery. Optometrists assess vision, prescribe corrective lenses and diagnose and sometimes treat eye problems. Opticians fill prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses.

* What Happens during an Eye Exam?

In a standard eye exam, the practitioner gives tests that measure visual acuity, or vision; evaluates refraction, which helps determine a person's prescription for glasses or contacts; and checks for eye problems. An ophthalmologist also checks eye movement and peripheral vision and examines the front and back of the eye.

"Ophthalmologists [and optometrists] use a slit lamp, which shines an intense line of light to illuminate the cornea, iris and other structures located at the front of the eye," says Dr. Gottlieb. Special drops dilate the pupil and let the doctor view the retina and other structures at the back of the eye with an instrument called an ophthalmoscope. Doctors also examine the skin around the eye.

* When Should I Get a Vision Exam?

If you don't wear corrective lenses or have a family history of eye disease or a condition that can affect vision, such as diabetes, get an eye exam every two to four years between the ages of 40 and 64. Starting at age 65, get one every year to two years. If you wear glasses or contacts, ask your eye doctor how often you should have an exam. You may need more frequent exams if you have a family history of eye disease or a condition that can affect vision. If you are African American, get more frequent eye exams, since your risk of glaucoma is higher.

* Why is Proper Eye Care Important?

The right corrective lenses can enhance your quality of life. More important, early diagnosis of eye disease can prevent vision loss.

Make an appointment today for an eye exam. Then, you can relax and enjoy the wonderful sights around you.

Dental Care

You can easily eat the foods you need for good nutrition only if you have healty teeth. Smiling, talking, and laughing with others also are easier when your mouth is healthy. Therefore you must take care of your teeth & mouth. Teeth are a lifelong. You should take good care of your teeth and gums, to protect them for number of years to come. When you don t take good care of your mouth, germs can cling to your teeth and form a sticky, colorless film called dental plaque. This plaque can lead to tooth cavities. Gum disease can also cause your teeth to decay.

Toothpaste and mouth rinse can help protect your teeth. If you have a problem with cavities, your dentist will give you a fluoride treatment during the office visit. The dentist also may prescribe a fluoride gel or mouth rinse for you to use at home.

Gum diseases are infections that harm the gum and bone that hold teeth in place. When plaque stays on your teeth too long, it forms a hard, harmful covering, that brushing doesn t clean. The longer the plaque and covering stay on your teeth, the more damage they cause. Your gums may become red, swollen, and bleed easily. This is called gingivitis.

If gingivitis is not treated, over time it can make your gums pull away from your teeth and form pockets that can get infected. If not treated, this infection can ruin the bones, gums, and tissue that support your teeth. In time, it can cause loose teeth that your dentist may have to remove.

To prevent gum disease: Brush your teeth twice a day (with a toothpaste), floss once a day, eat a well-balanced diet, don t use harmful products, cleaning Your Teeth and Gums. don't use sharp things to clean teeth like needle, etc. & visit your dentist regularly if you need. Every day gently brush your teeth on all sides with a soft-bristle brush and toothpaste, small round motions. Take the time to brush carefully and gently along the gum line. Brush your tongue regularly. Along with brushing, leftover food that a toothbrush can t reach. Rinse after you floss. Your dentist also may prescribe a bacteria-fighting mouth rinse to help control plaque and swollen gums.

False teeth may feel strange at first. When you are learning to eat with them, it may be easier if you: Start with soft non-sticky food;

Cut your food into small pieces; and Chew slowly using both sides of your mouth. Dentures may make your mouth less sensitive to hot foods and liquids. They also may make it harder for you to notice harmful objects such as bones, so be careful. During the first few weeks you have dentures, your dentist may want to see you often to make sure they fit. Over time, your mouth changes and your dentures may need to be replaced or adjusted. Be sure to let your dentist handle these adjustments.Keep your dentures clean and free from food that can cause stains, bad breath, or swollen gums. Once a day, brush all surfaces with a denture care product. When you go to sleep, take your dentures out of your mouth and put them in water or a denture cleansing liquid.

Take care of partial dentures the same way. Because bacteria can collect under the clips that hold partial dentures, be sure to carefully clean that area.

Dental implants are small metal pieces placed in the jaw to hold false teeth or partial dentures in place. They are not for everyone.Your gums must be healthy and your jawbone able to support the implants. Talk to your dentist to find out if you should think about dental implants.

Oral Cancer

Oral cancer most often occurs in people over age 40. It s important to catch oral cancer early, because treatment works best before the disease has spread. Even if you have lost all your natural teeth, you should still see your dentist for regular oral cancer tests. See your dentist or doctor if you have trouble with swelling, if it becomes hard for you to chew, swallow, or move your jaw or tongue. These problems could be signs of oral cancer. To prevent oral cancer: don t smoke; don t use snuff or chew tobacco; if you drink alcohol, do so in moderation; and eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
