Tarot cards and the ability to divine is an amazing skill to have. Tarot cards allow us to peer into past, present and future and find answers which sometimes can be hard or next to impossible to find.

* Tarot Card Basics
Tarot cards are cards that allow you to divine. That is to look into something and learn more about it. So, you can find out about topics or questions on your mind, or what others have as questions and are in need of answers.

Tarot cards are a set of cards which when shuffled bring the enquirer an answer. This is usually through intuition. The cards have different meanings, and the symbols are designed to stir up something in the unconscious mind that brings the answers or intuition. Though some people also believe that answers are from God, higher spirit, angels, etc.

The cards are accurate in the information they provide. However, you may not be! This brings us to the 2 type of Tarot card readers, in what I term the Tarot card reader and the diviner.

The Tarot card reader is someone who has just began in the journey of Tarot. At first, when you begin, you will need to look at the book and find the meaning of the cards. However, I believe this does not give the most accurate information for our questions, as these meanings are only a loose guide.

The diviner is someone who has excelled in there ability to pierce the veil and find the answers they seek through the use of intuition. It can take many years to get to this stage. However, every time that you divine, you will get better and better. This all depends on your spiritual evolution at this time. Some people have great intuition when they begin reading the cards, while others have to spend years, and yet others may not quite be able to connect in a whole lifetime.

* First Steps To Buying A Set Of Tarot Cards
My first set of Tarot cards were not expensive, in fact they cost the equivalent of a few dollars! When beginning your journey of divining with Tarot cards, realize that you do not have to invest in an expensive set of Tarot cards, you can easily start with a low priced beginners Tarot card set, and then once you feel you want to continue on this amazing path, then you can invest in a more expensive set.

* Tarot Card Tips And Care
It is best to find a tarot card set that meets your needs. That is, as a beginner you will need a book that tells you about Tarot, and also the spreads. The spreads are how you lay the cards to find the answers you need. Different spreads are used for different purposes.

If you have ever wanted to find some easy to follow tarot cards instructions then you have come to the right place. Many people want to learn more about the tarot and using tarot cards, but finding tarot cards instructions that are geared for beginners can be tricky, especially if you are unsure of what, exactly, tarot cards are for.

First here is some basic tarot card information: tarot cards are not going to predict the future. They aren't going to give you answers from the cosmos. What tarot cards do is speak to your intuition. Tarot cards are not going to tell you anything that some part of you doesn't already know. The card can shed insight into a current situation or help you figure out answers to problems yourself. Keep that in mind as you read the following tarot card instructions.

1. Choose your tarot card deck carefully. This is not a normal deck of playing cards or a pack of trading cards that you are picking up. Each tarot card deck has its own energy and it is important to take your time in figuring out which deck you feel the most comfortable with. Look at the illustrations on the cards and pay attention to your senses. You will eventually find a deck that you feel a connection to and that is the deck you should purchase.

2. Even if you haven't started to learn what each of the cards means, take some time to become familiar with each of the cards in your tarot card decks. Really look at the illustrations and start figuring out how each one of the cards fits into the different categories of cards.

3. Begin studying what each of the cards means. Putting meaning to each card is easier if you can easily call to mind the card when you are reading about it. Sure it is easy enough to do a tarot card spread and then look up the meaning of each card, but a tarot reading is far more fulfilling if you already know what the cards mean.

4. The easiest tarot card spread is the three card spread. This card spread gives you insight into the past, the present and the future that surround the question you are concentrating on. We've already said that tarot cards cannot predict the future, but they can give you some insight into your feelings about the future. Once you've mastered the three card reading, you are ready to move on to other card spreads.

These are just a few simple tarot cards instructions. Obviously there are more complicated card spreads and there are techniques to learning about the individual cards and what they mean. If you are just starting out, though, hopefully these tarot cards instructions will provide you with enough background information to start you on your journey to being a practiced reader of the tarot cards. Before you know it, you will be advanced enough to do readings for other people.

If you are a newbie and absolutely lost in reading tarot cards, carry on reading this article. Truth be told, many people are interested to learn about tarot and reading tarot cards. However, very often, tarot newbies find tarot card instructions too complicated and tricky. Before being discouraged by the seemingly sheer amount of information they have to look through, it is important that tarot newbies learn about the facts of reading tarot cards and the tarot deck. Before we proceed to talk about the 4 simple tips you can use to enable you to embark in the amazing journey of reading tarot cards, you need to know that tarot cards is not going to predict your future. As a matter of fact, nobody knows what their future has in store for them. What reading tarot cards really does is that it allows you to tap into your subconscious mind and to speak to your intuition. Our intuition can be a really powerful tool and tarot cards allow us to tap into this tool, which when used properly, can be beneficial and helpful. Tarot cards will not tell you anything which you haven't already known. So, just keep this in mind before embarking on the journey of reading tarot cards. Let's cover the 4 simple tips you can use to be better at reading tarot cards, especially when you are a tarot beginner.

Tip 1: Choose your tarot deck carefully. Tarot cards are not like your normal poker cards. Each tarot deck has its own energy and it is important that you choose a tarot deck that you can relate to or feel comfortable with before deciding to use that particular tarot deck for reading tarot cards. Look at the illustrations depicted on the tarot cards before purchasing. If you feel that you can understand and relate to the illustrations, that tarot deck might be suitable for you. The reverse is true. Keep this point in mind before reading tarot cards.

Tip 2: Take some time out to study the tarot cards. Do not worry about memorizing the tarot card meanings. Reading tarot cards is a matter of you relating and understanding what the illustrations on the cards are trying to tell you. Reading tarot cards will only be easier for you when you have "connected" well with the tarot deck. Hence, do remember to take some time to study the cards and relate to the tarot deck.

Tip 3 After relating to the tarot cards, now begin to study the exact meaning of the card. Reading tarot cards become a much more enjoyable activity when you can easily call to mind the meaning of each card. It can be disruptive if you have to check on each and every tarot card while you are trying to interpret the tarot card meanings.

Tip 4 When you are familiar enough with your tarot deck, you can start using tarot spreads. There are many different types of tarot spreads, with differing degree of complexity. Start easy and build confidence. Tarot beginners are usually encouraged to use the three card spread when reading tarot cards. This tarot card spread gives insight into the past, present and future. I have mentioned earlier that reading tarot cards cannot predict your future. However, it can provide you with some insight into your feelings for the future. After mastering the three card spread, you can advance into harder aspects of reading tarot cards. These four tips are some of the most simple tips to help you get started in reading tarot cards. Reading tarot cards is an entertaining and therapeutic activity and there are just so much more interesting aspects to it. Drop into my site if you are interested to learn more about reading tarot cards.

How to choose the best Tarot Card Decks?

Chloe Kor Self Improvement/Self Improvement 2008-03-11
View Detail
Contrary to what many individuals who are interested in reading tarot cards believe, there is really no "best Tarot Card Decks" because "best" is really a relative term. Choosing a suitable tarot card deck should be the aim for individuals interested in reading tarot cards.

There are certainly some tarot card decks which are more popular then others and perhaps these decks are easier to understand and relate to. The most popular and easiest tarot card deck is the Rider Waite Tarot Deck. This deck was named after the very famous occult scholar, Dr. Arthur Edward Waite. The deck was first created in 1910 and the designs were drawn by a lady named Pamela Coleman Smith.

The Rider Waite Tarot Deck is an aesthetically-pleasing and easy-to-understand deck. The symbols are easy to understand and there are also many books written on this deck, hence starting off with the Rider Waite Tarot Deck is a great way to begin the journey of reading tarot cards. Many occultists actually recommend beginners to start off with the Rider Waite Deck.

The Llewellyn Tarot Deck is another popular tarot deck. However, this deck is harder to learn, certainly not as easy as the Rider Waite Tarot Deck. Finding books which teach beginners about this deck might be harder too.

The most popular Tarot Card Deck is perhaps the Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot. Reading these tarot cards can be extremely difficult, hence it is generally recommended that beginners, who are just getting started in reading tarot cards, start off with Rider Waite Tarot Deck and after gaining sufficient experience in reading tarot cards, they can move on this deck of tarot cards.

SCRAPBOOKING FOR BEGINNERS

So you have finally decided to have a go at this ever growing hobby. Good on YOU!

Having spent many years in the art field in various roles I used to think scrapbooking was pretty elementary. Very arrogant of me, wasn’t it!

Well, I am now on my second scrapbook and I tell you it has really been an uplifting experience. I found when I was working I never seemed to get time to pull out the canvas and paints and then ‘get in the moment’ and feel satisfied with what I had ‘time’ to paint!

Scrapbooking has really filled that void for me, because I have all my papers, stickers, pens, stamps, etc etc organised I can quickly pull them out and in even an hour can produce something that I am happy with. It may not be a finished page, but at least I can see some results. Then pack it all up quickly and put it away til next time.

Well, you want to start scrapbooking, is that right?

I am going to give you some good basic beginners scrapbooking tips for starting and I can expand on that when you visit my website.

One important point to remember that this is not a race, unless of course, you do have a deadline. The WORK IN PROGRESS can be just as enjoyable as the finished product.

First off get a notebook. Sketch any scrapbooking ideas you see and note down products you may want to buy at a later date.

1. Decide on the topic of your book: wedding, anniversary, baby book, flowers, holiday or whatever it is that you want to focus on.
2. Choose your photos – it is better to have less very good photos rather than a lot of average photos – the reason being is that it is better to have one memorable photo highlighted on a page than several not so good.
3. Decide on your color scheme. There are several schools of thought here – depending on your topic some prefer to have a blended background and others prefer to have a contrasting background.
4. At this stage you should choose your book so that it matches the color tonings of your pages.
5. Start collecting tools that you will need: exacto knife, metal ruler, sharp sissors and more depending on your budget (see our website)
6. Keep a look out for:
colored papers for decorating (some magazines include lovely ones)
colored card
double sided tapes (it is good to have several types)
lettering
sayings, quotes and verses (amazing how the mind goes blank at times!)
stickers and other embellishments (ribbon, buttons, etc)
stamps

Other items to look out for, which are not needed straight away, are:
1. Spare insert pages for your book. Make sure you get the right size as not all books are the same.
2. Different coloured pens. Gel pens are great as are gold and silver.
3. Further embellishments. It seems you can never have enough of these because they help bring the pages alive. These can be bought at sales, cheap shops, cut from cards, calendars, magazines and the like.
4. More lettering. These too, can never go astray.
5. Stensils can be very handy.
6. Strings and wools to add on.

Remember, you don’t have to complete each page as you go. If you feel you can’t decide what to put on it, you can always go back at a later stage and a saying or other embellishment. That’s why it is called a Work in Progress.

Being Aware!
Once you start looking at scrapbooks it is amazing how you will start focusing on layouts. I found this so interesting because all of a sudden I would see advertising on TV or brochures and realise that the layout on them would make a great scrapbooking layout.

If you wish to use your own imagination for layouts you can get guides from the internet, from hobby shops and magazines, or you can simply purchase them.

Digital layouts are now very popular too, so it depends on what you are wanting from this hobby.

Hope you have an enjoyable start to your hobby, don’t be afraid. As is often quoted “if you make a mistake, you can just cover it up”. I have done this and it is better to get rid of a page that annoys you than keep it in and always be a ‘bug bear’ that you feel you have to explain away to people.

There are many scrapbooking techniques, but like anything you have to start somewhere and the beauty of it is that you can always go back and add things.

Snowboarding For Beginners

Jasmine Stone Self Improvement/Self Improvement 2008-04-28

If you are interested in taking up a new hobby, and you enjoy thrilling, fast paced action, why not consider snowboarding? Increasing in popularity year on year, snowboarding has always been highly fashionable, and is no more accessible than ever, so you really have no excuse for not giving it a go if you are interested. In this article we will look at the equipment you will need, where to get started, and the things to watch out for when snowboarding.

First thing's first - get yourself online. Look around, and find out exactly what snowboarding involves. It is a dangerous game, and highly physically taxing. Additionally, it can be quite expensive, so you need to try to ensure it's right for you. Next you need to look for a board to get you started, and some clothing for wearing on the slopes. First off, forget about buying a top quality board. You need to start off with something cheap and cheerful, designed for beginners. You can find these easily online, and you may also be able to come across some models in your local extreme sports shop. Alternatively, you could try to pick one up second hand from a friend, or from another snowboarder. You also want to make sure you look cool whilst your out there! Check out some of the highly fashionable snowboarding wear, and kit yourself out from hats, to sunglasses to thick socks - make sure you're prepared for the elements before you set off.

It is worth looking around to find lessons in your local area. Lessons range in availability, quality and price, although you will often find recommendations or local adverts particularly helpful. Again you could look online for some tips to get you on your way. If you do take lessons, it is important to take on board what the instructor says from both a performance and safety perspective. Additionally, get out there and practice between lessons if you ever want to improve. If you stick at it, and work hard, you will eventually see an improvement, and find the sport significantly more enjoyable also.

It is also good to note that snowboarding is a highly dangerous activity and people do get hurt. Before you even think about snowboarding, take some lessons in safety, and make sure you are fully equipped both mentally and physically for avoiding injury to yourself and others. Snowboarding is responsible for many accidents every year, and it is an extreme sport after all - if you're of a weak disposition, it is perhaps not the best sport for you. Having said that, snowboarding can easily be performed safely with a bit of common sense, and a bit of research, so make sure you're prepared before you get out there. Warnings aside, snowboarding is great fun, if you like this sort of thing. Many people adopt the mantra that you should try everything at least once, and as far as snowboarding is concerned, this is definitely true. Try snowboarding once, and join the legions of followers who enjoy snowboarding at every opportunity. Chances are there are clubs and associations in your local town, so get yourself along and join in with like minded people. Your level of experience doesn't matter, as long as you go along and participate, you will gain a lot from it, and you will definitely have a good time in the process.

What is Tarot?

James Wickson News Society/culture 2007-01-21
View Detail
Tarot (also known as Tarock, Tarokk, Taroky, Taroc, Tarok, Tarocchi and similar names) is a family of trick taking card games played with an enlarged deck of 78 cards which include an extra court card for each of the four regular suits, a permanent trump suit of 21 cards, and a kind of "wild card" called "the Fool" or "Excuse." Although seen primarily by many as a means of fortune telling or divination, the Tarot deck was created in northern Italy during the 15th century for playing card games. The notion of a trump suit which survives in such popular card games as Spades and Bridge originated with the game of Tarot.

The myth of Egyptian origins of Tarot, while once common, has long been debunked by later scholars. There is also no record of Tarot cards being used for the occult or divination prior to the 18th century. The Tarot card readings popular at Renaissance Fairs are a creative license taken with historical fact and should not be viewed as authentic. Contrary to popular belief, conventional playing cards were not derived from Tarot decks and the Fool is unrelated to the Joker of conventional playing cards. The Joker was created in the USA during the 19th century originally for the card game Euchre.

Tarot cards

There are two types of Tarot deck.

The Italian suited Tarot

The traditional Italian suited deck of coins, cups, swords, and batons is currently favored by those using Tarot for divination, although in some countries such as Italy and Switzerland such decks are still used for game playing. Those practicing Tarot divination often call the coins "pentacles" and the batons "wands." With few exceptions, the trump scenes of Italian suited Tarots differ little from deck to deck and are often seen by Tarot readers as containing symbolic meaning. The depictions of a Popess (II) and Pope (V) on Italian suited Tarots have been controversial in some areas. In Switzerland, these images were replaced by depictions of Juno (II) and Jupiter (V). In Bologna Italy, the papal figures along with the Empress (III) and the Emperor (IV) were replaced by four Moorish figures which are unnumbered and act as trumps of equal rank in the Bolognese variety of Tarocchi. The Italian or Spanish suit system is not confined to Tarot cards. This suit system is a common regional pattern of conventional playing cards in Southern Europe and in Latin America.

The French suited Tarot

The more modern deck using the French or international suits of diamonds, hearts, spades, and clubs is now used in such countries as France and Austria for game playing. In France and in southern Germany , the Roman numerals have been abandoned in favor of Arabic numbers, while in some countries such as Austria, the Roman numerals are still used. The trump images of French suited Tarots often depict arbitrary scenes of people at work and at play, animals both actual and mythological, and landscapes of regional locales. In some regions, such as Austria and southern Germany, the deck is shortened to 54 cards by the removal of the lowest ranking pip cards. Unlike the Italian suited decks, there is a great variety of imagery on the trump cards of French suited Tarots. On French suited Tarot decks, the Fool is often depicted as a musician, a harlequin, or some other kind of entertainer. French suited Tarots are seldom used for divination.

Common rules of play

In each trick, players must follow suit if possible. If following suit is not possible, a trump card must be played. If players are void in the suit played and are also void in trumps, then any card can be played. The winner of a trick leads the next.

There is considerable variation on how the Fool or Excuse is used. In countries such as France and Italy, the Fool is a "wild card" which may be played to any trick to avoid having to follow suit while in some regions such as Austria and southern Germany, the Fool is simply the highest trump.

Many modern Tarot games incorporate bidding to determine who will become the taker and play alone against the other players. In some Tarot card games with four or more players, the taker calls a king or a high ranking trump to choose a partner who's identity remains secret until the called card is played.

The values of the cards where "n" is often equal to 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the type of game one is playing are given as follows:

Trump XXI (21), Trump I (1), the Excuse or Fool, and the 4 kings are worth 4 + 1/n each

The 4 queens are worth 3 + 1/n each

The 4 cavaliers or knights are worth 2 + 1/n each

The 4 jacks are worth 1 + 1/n each

All other cards are worth 1/n each

The usual goal of Tarot card games is to score the most card points along with any other bonus points which might also be available depending on which regional variant one is playing.

Tarot reading and divination

Although originally designed for card playing, Tarot cards are commonly seen by many as a tool for divination especially in regions where Tarot card games remain largely unknown. There are numerous decks published nowadays dedicated for divination purposes. The most well known deck designed for divination or to "gain insight" is the Rider Waite Smith Tarot.

To use the cards for divination, one arranges them in a pattern. Such patterns, usually cross-shaped, are known as "throws" or "spreads." The "querent," that is the one seeking the Tarot reading, shuffles the deck and asks the card reader a question. The question might be of a "yes" or "no" type or of a more general nature. The reader arranges the cards into the spread of choice and supposedly attempts to answer the question by using the cards as a guide. The divinatory interpretation of a Tarot card often depends on whether the direction of the card is upright or reversed or by its juxtaposition with other cards. Sometimes only 22 cards of the Tarot deck are used. These cards, called the "Major Arcana" by Tarot readers, include the 21 trumps and the Fool. The remaining 56 cards are called the "Minor Arcana."

Not all Tarot readers call themselves "fortune tellers" when they claim they do not technically use the cards for predictive purposes. In recent years, "psychological" interpretations, rather than paranormal ones, have governed the context in which many Tarot readings are seen. Such Tarot readings are said to be "introspective" in character and make no supernatural or prophetic claims. Tarot card reading has also recently become popular in some circles as a brainstorming tool in efforts to boost one's creativity. However, it should be noted that, there is no scientifically acceptable evidence of any psychic phenomena or of any therapeutic benefits of Tarot card readings.

Beginners Exercise Tips

Matt Oconnor Recreation Sports/fitness 2007-07-03

When someone wants to make a change in their life, they often think about eating better and starting an exercise program.

The problem is that most beginners think they have to go to the gym and get on a tread mill for an hour.

That is not possible for most people who have not been exercising, as it will simply be too much for them. They may be lucky to stay on for ten minutes before they simply cannot go any longer. Beginners exercise should be easy and simple so the body can get use to the new activity.

For the most part, one of the best ways to kick off beginners exercise is by walking. Almost anyone can walk, and it does not have to be that far at first. A walk around the block can have great benefits for anyone, and this will start the body on the process of learning to exercise again.

I recently read a piece from recently deceased copywriting legend Gary Halbert. His book was called The Boron Letters and in it he suggested that the one thing that helped him enjoy his day the most was having an early morning walk for an hour. He called it roadwork and pointed out that this simple exercise could give you a glow that lasted the rest of the day!

After a few weeks a person can start to walk further than when they started, and they might even walk a little faster or carry some very light weights in their hands. Walking is a very common beginners exercise and many doctors will recommend if for those who have been sedentary for a while.

When walking is not safe for any reason, there are some other beginners exercise that a person can do right in heir own home. If they have stairs, they can go up and down them. For the very obese, this might just be one trip, but that is okay. It will get easier after a while. Anyone who likes music can dance in their own home for beginners exercise as well. It does not have to be fast dancing, and it does not go on forever. Simple moving around to a few songs is a great way to get started.

Beginners exercise is only effective if it moves on to something else. After a few weeks it is important to add to the exercise so the benefits keep piling up. Any type of exercise will get easier and a person will be able to go longer as long as they do it a few times a week and that they keep going a little longer each week. After awhile, anyone will be able to work up a good sweat in any way they see fit. The important thing is to start and to keep going. If motivation is low, find a friend who is willing to make the journey too.

Tarot - a Brief Introduction

TAROT – a brief introduction

The Tarot has many myths, mysteries and misconceptions associated with it and it is often regarded with suspicion. It is one of the most enigmatic systems of divination and prediction and has fascinated all who have come into contact with it for hundreds of years. No one really knows for certain how or when the Tarot began as its origins remain shrouded in mystery although the general opinion is that it originated in the 15th Century in Northern Italy. Since then, Tarot cards have been used for gaming, fortune-telling, meditation, psychological insight, ritual, creative inspiration and healing.

These days, the Tarot Reader is much less likely to use the Tarot as a 'fortune telling' device and more likely to use it for advice, guidance, empowerment and enlightenment both for others and her/himself. I believe that the future is not set in stone or predestined as our free will and the decisions and choices we make can change the direction in which we are travelling. The Tarot can help us to make these decisions and choices by showing us options that we may not have considered before. Sometimes we can be so involved in a situation that we cannot see the way forward.

The Tarot does not take away our free will or ability to make choices for our self and does not predict a fixed, unchanging future. It is best to consider a Tarot reading as advice and guidance.

A standard Tarot deck consists of 78 cards depicting scenes, symbols and images which can seem mysterious, curious, fascinating, disturbing or even amusing. There are 22 cards in the Major Arcana (Arcana means secrets) and 56 cards in the Minor Arcana. Each card of the Major Arcana symbolises an aspect of human experience or one of the life lessons that we need to learn. The cards of the Minor Arcana represent the day to day events and happenings, the dramas of our everyday lives and are divided into four suits. These suits can be compared to a standard pack of playing cards. The suit of Wands relates to Clubs, the suit of Pentacles relates to Diamonds, the Swords to Spades and the Cups to Hearts.

There are literally hundreds of different styles and themes of Tarot decks to suit all tastes and needs. Many of the early packs are French in design for example the Tarot de Marseilles and this deck is still very popular today. Some are more suitable for beginners than others for example the Rider-Waite (or similar) but it is important to choose a deck that suits you, one that you like looking at, one that you feel you can relate to and which stimulates your imagination. Take a good look around before you buy. Look on the internet; some books have lots of pictures of different cards and some shops have display packs to look at. If you like dragons - get a deck which features dragons, if you are into Medieval art - get one that features this type of artwork, if fairies or angels are what you are into - then get one of these decks. Although the pictorial images of the cards of different decks vary considerably, the basic essence of what each card is saying is the same. It is unlikely that you will be unable to find a deck that appeals to you or that you feel comfortable with.

The Joy of Learning Tarot

Christiane Hayes Spirituality/new age 2007-12-19
View Detail

After decades of being regarded as part of dubious occult practices, Tarot is now becoming more mainstream and available for everyone to experience and learn. Decks and books are widely available from most bookstores, New Age shops and on the internet. Numerous websites offer information on Tarot and message boards, where like-minded people can meet and exchange ideas. It has never been easier to learn the Tarot.

If you are interested in learning the Tarot, you can rest assured that you do not need to be ‘psychic’ or possess a ‘special gift’ to be able to read the cards. All you need is the enthusiasm and perseverance to keep practicing. Your skills and knowledge will be reflected in the efforts you put into your studies.

Before you start, however, consider why you want to learn the Tarot. Most people at first are interested in the fortune-telling aspect of Tarot, as the ability to predict the future offers excitement and perhaps even a feeling of power over those, who ask you for a reading. You need to be aware though that the Tarot cannot make any predictions, as the future is not pre-determined. However, it is possible to establish future possibilities or a trend by analyzing a situation’s past and present.

Most of all, the Tarot offers a tremendous potential to better understand yourself. By examining problems or issues with the cards, a more informed decision can be made on how to proceed. Learning the Tarot to get to know yourself is a rewarding and enlightening experience.

The beginner soon realizes that learning the cards can be a daunting task. Memorizing the many different meanings of 78 cards doesn’t seem to be an easy undertaking. But there are ways of learning the Tarot more easily and efficiently. Most Tarot students nowadays learn to read the cards with the help of books or mentors; the latter will save time and money. Check out your local area for courses or look on the internet for contacts; The Tarot Association of the British Isles (TABI) has a list of professional readers, who also offer tuition not only in their local areas but also online.

My top tips for learning the Tarot more efficiently:

• Choose a beginner’s deck, such as the Rider-Waite or Sharman-Caselli deck. Don’t be tempted by the Star Wars or Flower Fairy Tarot deck; you need cards that offer plenty of archetypal symbolism and meaning, so you can develop your intuition.

• Don’t try and memorize card meanings from books. Instead, try looking at each card and figure out the meaning for yourself. The cards need to speak to you. Relate each card to an experience or phase in your life; this will help you to remember its meanings more easily.

• If you need to buy a beginner’s book, choose one that provides plenty of exercises to help you learn the Tarot more intuitively. A good example is Mary K. Greer’s 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card.

• Find yourself a friend to learn Tarot with or a mentor. Sometimes it is hard to get motivated on your own. A mentor will also help you to focus by guiding you with individual exercises and reading material, so you can achieve your goal more quickly.

• Be realistic on how much time you can devote to your studies; Tarot cannot be learned from one day to the next, although it offers insight and guidance the moment you start. Your accuracy will improve in time.

• Have fun! This is very important. Don’t put yourself under pressure. If you cannot invest much time, use the cards for meditation purposes or just reflect on them informally. Pick a daily or a weekly card and see how its image reflects the events occurring during the day or week.

Overall, learning Tarot offers possibilities way beyond fortune-telling. According to Gerd Ziegler, it is the Mirror of the Soul. It reveals your true personality and offers opportunities for self-realization and discovery. May your Tarot journey be filled with pleasant and enlightening surprises!

Forex Scalping For Beginners

Monica Hendrix Finance/Currency Trading 2007-10-06

Forex scalping is one of the most popular ways for new traders to get into forex trading and offers the appeal of regular profits and low risk. In this article we are going to cover all the facts related to forex scalping for beginners, so lets get started.

Forex scalping in essence, looks to trade within daily time frames making small regular profits, using tight stops to generate big profits overtime - the big problem is it has never worked and never will.

Why?

Because the logic it is based on is simply incorrect and if you read on, we will tell you why and show you the evidence, which shows why one of the best ways to lose money in forex trading is forex scalping.

Let’s take a look at the market first and how they move.

We have trillions of dollars traded daily, by millions of different traders and to say that you can say what this vast mass of traders is going to do in such a short time frame, as a few hours is laughable.

Fact:

All short term volatility is random.

This means that prices can and do go anywhere in a day – support and resistance levels are not valid, so it doesn’t matter how good your technical indicators are they will fail in this random environment.

I have seen successful track records though!

Sure you have – and their sold by vendors with a vested interest.

There are loads of them and they are all designed to bring forex scalping to beginners - for a few hundred bucks you get rich, sure you do.

Take a reality check!

These vendors make money selling forex scalping systems, NOT trading them - their far too clever for that.

What you will see is an unbelievable track record that shows great profits with little or now drawdown and common sense tells you that if it’s too good to be true and it most are!

Many traders however fall for the ploy and buy the system, lose and wonder why.

If they were to take a closer look at the forex scaling track records presented, they will see the words “hindsight” or “simulation” written all over the track record as a disclaimer.

What does this mean?

Well – the track record is done in hindsight and simulated, knowing the closing prices!

How hard is that?

My eight year old daughter could do that and so could anyone who can read and write and you can to – these track records are totally meaningless and really not worth the paper their written on.

You can of course find a real-time track record but you will spend a long time in your search – I have spent 25 years trying, so if you find one let me know.

The fact is forex scalping for beginners takes advantage of naive and gullible investors who think winning is easy and they don’t stop to think about the reasons these systems cannot and never will work

If You Want to Win

You need to trade the odds and that means using time frames that allow you to get the odds in your favour and this means trading longer term.

If you are a beginner at forex trading and want to get a forex education that will help you win look at forex swing trading or long term trend following here you work with valid data and can get the odds on your side.

Avoid forex scalping and forex day trading and like I said earlier if you find a real time track record let me know.

Breeding for Beginners

Probably the most rewarding thing about tropical fish keeping is watching young fish grow from birth to adult size. You can take immense pride in achieving this, but is particularly true for the more difficult species to breed. However beginners should be wary of jumping in at the deep end (so to speak).
Mollies Guppies, Swordtails and Platys are fantastic fish for beginners to breed. They are all live bearer fish types, ie the fish are born live and can swim from the outset. These fish come in an enormous variety of colours and patterns and are great for beginner breeders to hone their newly acquired skills
Probably THE most important tip on breeding tropical fish that bear live young is to keep the baby fish, called fry, away from the rest of your community tank. Adult fish consider fry to be fantastic food, so “keep them apart right from the start”. If you don’t your breeding efforts will be in vain. In fact, even the mother and father will eat their own young as food.
Your best bet to avoid this fate is to use a separate breeding tank with lots of plants and foliage for the fry to hide in. Once the mother has given birth, she must be returned to the main tank quickly, in order that young fry can grow safely inside the incubator tank.
Water temperature and tank size are both very important when it comes to conditioning tropical fish. Each different breed of fish has a different best breeding temperature, so first determine that. Fish are conditioned to breed when the water temperature signals to them that it is breeding season. If you maintain this optimal temperature, the fish will be more likely to breed. As a general rule, larger tanks tend to produce larger numbers of fry in one birth as well.
Food is also an important factor in the conditioning, try to find out which is the favorite food is your particular type of fish. However as it isn't always possible to obtain 'specialist food', nowadays a well balanced diet can be provided easily in the form of high quality flaked or similar prepared food. Bloodworms, frozen or live are excellent for conditioning most fish.
The joy that you get from breeding fish will be all the more if you follow these basic rules.

Blackjack for beginners

Michelle Jonson Recreation Sports/Gambling Casinos 2008-05-04

Blackjack is the most played casino card game in the world today. Blackjack is one of the very few ‘beatable’ casino games, meaning that if you know the rules and have a basic understanding of strategy than you can come out in the black, so to speak, over the house.

The edge over the house can only be achieved if a player knows the rules and the strategy of the game.

The rules are simple; the main purpose is to have a hand closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over. The strategy involves knowing the odds. Knowing whether to hit – get more cards – or stand – stay with your current hand – at 17 is where strategy starts to come in.

There are amazing tools online today for a beginning player to learn the game. HitorStand.net (http://www.hitorstand.net/) offers an interactive blackjack tutorial that teaches the game as you play. This is a must for the novices.

You can the upgrade to sites like Online-Casino.com (http://www.online-casino.com) that have free blackjack games versions. Try finding a site like this that has a no-download, completely free game version that you don’t have to register for.

After you feel completely comfortable with the game and you decide whether you would want to play online for real money.

Playing for practice, or free money, online is a great advantage for blackjack beginners today. Blackjack is one of those games where the rules are easy to learn but the strategy takes time to master. It is possible, though. Today, with the free versions online, all a person needs is perseverance and an Internet connection.

The basic objective in the game of blackjack is to get the highest hand value to 21 points without going over. When learning the rules, the main factor a player needs to learn is how much each card is worth. Afterward, with the strategy, a player will need to remember the odds and statistics of the cards.

The great thing about a blackjack strategy is that the more tips you learn, the better your game will get. Knowing a few tips can dramatically increase your game.

The best advice for beginners is to find a site with a free version and start playing. The strategy will come with time. Once you know that you should never play with a casino that uses more than 6 decks at a time and to never, ever, take insurance, you’re well on your way to becoming a blackjack pro.

Telepathy For Beginners

Trevor Johnson Arts Entertainment/Arts Entertainment 2008-04-13
View Detail

Communication through means other than senses bears the name of telepathy. It consists in transmitting and receiving information to and from someone else's mind. We all know from experience that these things do happen. Here is an example of telepathy.

I was planning to go on a trip to a foreign country a few months ago. I ordered my flight ticket and received the flight details with the name of the airport where the plane was due to take off. On the big day, before heading for the airport I checked my flight once more, just to be sure everything was all right, and I was surprised to see that my plane had been directed to another airport in the city.

That came as a shock because I had checked on the previous day and no changes had occurred yet. Fortunately this did not interfere with my plan and everything went smoothly I got to the airport just in time to catch the plane but this incident made me take a moment and think more thoroughly of the connections that human mind can establish with other minds. In this case the message may have been sent to me spontaneously by someone who found out of the change before I did or by the airport staff.

This was a typical example of spontaneous telepathy, the kind of connection that is established irrespective of the receiver's or sender's will. However, telepathy can be practised intentionally and the effects are the same. A message reaches the receiver because the sender wants him or her to get it and mentally concentrates on that purpose. This is called deliberate telepathy and there is a very good exercise that beginners may do in order to learn how it works.

Here is a typical telepathy exercise for beginners. Choose someone you feel comfortable with, a very good friend you have a lot in common with. It is easier to send and receive information to and from someone you know well. Your friend should sit in the opposite corner of the room. Grab a pack of cards and start looking at one of them, trying to make your friend 'receive' the image of that very card. Your friend will then write down the impression he or she has got from this attempt of yours. Do the same with another card and so on, till you have 'sent' the images of the whole deck of cards to the receiver. Check your friend's notes to see if he or she has got the right messages. Then reverse roles and be the receiver yourself. In this way you may understand how good you both are as senders and receivers. After practicing this with all the cards twice or three times, you should have a break so as not to get bored. When you have seen some improvement in the quality of the messages sent, you may as well practise this exercise long distance if you and your friend agree to a certain time and each of you tries sending an image for five minutes. Next time you meet, you can compare the results.

Some people are better senders; others can receive messages more easily. There is also a certain number of people who can do both at a very high level. They say 'practice makes perfect' which is fairly true about telepathic exercises as well. The more you practice the more details you are likely to send or receive and in time you will be able to 'manipulate' more complex thoughts between you and your partner.

It is important to understand the basics of aerobics for beginners to avoid unnecessary injury. If you are new to aerobics or have not been exercise for a long time and are just getting started with exercise again with aerobics, you might be feeling overwhelmed. There are many ways to work out and it is fun to choose a workout that you enjoy and be healthy at the same time. Aerobics require your heart and lung to work harder than when you are at rest by the intensity and repetitions of your movement.

Don’t think that you have to start at the top right away. Advanced aerobics can be something that you have to work up to. This includes running in place and doing a series of movements that you might find very intimidating to start with. And also, it isn’t safe to start anywhere other than as a beginner, because you might hurt yourself and you also might run into problems. Therefore, you have to start form the beginning if you want to be able to get the most benefit from your routine.

Always start from the beginning and slowly work your way up to advance level. Beginning aerobics are very easy and it can be done anytime even from home. The point is to get your blood flowing, you may try jogging in place and moving your arms and legs in order to get your heart rate up. Then, you gradually increase the intensity and repetitions. For instance, running in place lifting your leg as high as possible or doing a series of movements with high speed can be an excellent aerobic exercise if your heart can take it. Another advance aerobics is rope skipping.

Something else that you should keep in mind is that aerobics often work better with music. The way that it works is that you can use the music to keep your tempo and to keep you working hard. You can also time your exercises with music – you can do one set for an entire song, for instance. Music can be your motivator and it can help you keep working out.

Hiking For Beginners

Nadia Eshott Travel Leisure/Outdoors 2007-06-21
View Detail
Have you ever felt an urge to bask in the sun, feel the wind in your hair and get a little dirt under your fingernails? It's natural to want to spend a little time in the wilderness, because human beings are just animals, after all. That's why learning to hike is the perfect sport for our stressed-out society.

Hiking is considered by some to be a recreational pastime. To others, however, it's much more than that. Some people begin a lifelong love of hiking as very small children. They remember spending family vacations as endless hours spent tackling the trails with mom and dad. A child's newfound love of hiking will blossom into skills and memories that he or she will carry throughout their lives.

Others discover the joys of hiking later in life. Older kids journey with scout troops. Packs of teenagers search for the perfect spot to hang out. Frenzied professionals seek refuge from the demands of home and business.

Whatever the reason, one thing is certain: People go hiking to shake off our contemporary hassles, and enjoy all that nature has to offer.

It can be a little tricky when you first begin hiking. You may struggle with bulky packs loaded with too much gear, too much food and too many pairs of shoes. You'll set off on a two-day trek, but pack for a week. Seasoned hikers can always spot the rookies as they struggle along the trail.

The truth is every professional hiker was a beginner at one time. We all need to make mistakes and learn from them. Don't worry about making the same mistakes. You'll soon be confident enough to pack a little lighter and in no time at all you'll be traveling a little easier. As you lose bulk from your pack, you'll log miles on your hiking boots. Your skills and experiences will grow with time, and soon you'll be the experienced hiker on the trail.

While you're honing your craft, here are some helpful tips that can help to clear the trail:

Be Prepared

There is nothing like the freedom of hiking, but there are basic safety rules that you must always follow. Remember, anything can and will happen in the great outdoors. If you don't prepare for your "anything-goes" journey, you can find yourself at the centre of backcountry disasters and near- misses. Bad judgment calls, inadequate clothing and a poor sense of direction can all contribute to potentially life-threatening hiking situations. Knowing what to bring, understanding what you need to do, and following through are all important first lessons for beginning hikers. Check the weather forecast before you plan your trip. You'll need to know the conditions and pack appropriately. Bring a lightweight rain jacket in case the weather turns unexpectedly. Be aware of the trail and remain in tune with your surroundings. When hiking a national park or conservation area, ask park management for advice on the local conditions and any permitting procedures. Research online or check your bookstore for hiking guides and maps. Learn how to read them properly, and use them during your hike.

Understand Your Equipment

Hiking for beginners leaves no room for vanity. No one cares what you look like, or whether you're coming across as a hiking "dork". Outdoor temperatures can drop quickly after the sun sets, so make sure your sleeping bag is insulated. Staying warm is infinitely more important than looking cool. And it's a lot smarter. Hiking equipment is not about coordinating your ensemble. It's about staying safe -- and it can save your life.

Relax and Have Fun

In the end, hiking is all about having fun. Otherwise, no one would do it. To a hiker, lacing up a pair of boots and stomping for miles through remote wilderness is a luxury vacation. Mosquito bites and scratches are five-star amenities. If you're hardcore about your love of nature, all the trouble pays off in fun and freedom.

Remember, there's no stress in hiking. Take your time and enjoy your journey. Watch the clouds drift by. Breathe in the fresh air and drink in the sunshine. Catch a butterfly, and then let it go. Hiking for beginners isn't difficult -- it's the start of a beautiful friendship.

Easy Scrapbooking For Beginners

barbarak Home Family/Hobbies 2007-02-25
View Detail
So you’ve seen some of the eye-catching and heartwarming creations your friends have made scrapbooking, and think, “I can do that!” Visions of four-year-old photos stuffed in random boxes in secret corners of closets nag at you, and you think, “Oohh- organized picture albums!” Truly, these are some of the thoughts and motivations that compel woman the world over to trim, journal, crop and create the most inspired photo albums ever seen.

Yet, for a beginning scrapbooker, the choices can be overwhelming. During my first crop, I spent most of my time awed by the dazzling array of paper, stickers and cutters. I was so afraid to commit to any one decision, I didn’t get a single page completed. So, if you are just embarking on your scrapbooking journey, here a few pointers to help you enjoy this great hobby, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Where to Start?

Scrapbooking for beginners can be a daunting task. I truly believe the key is to start where you are. Yes, I know there are childbirth photos of your 8 year old sitting in a box under your bed. You will get to them eventually. If you start back in time, you will feel like you are forever catching up. I strongly advise that you begin with your most recent set of photos, and get into the habit of cropping regularly. Eventually, you will find you are up to date with current photos, and then you can start to travel back in time.

Step by Step

First of all, it is helpful to use a scrapbook with removable pages. This will allow you to decide on placement of the pages as you go, and allow you to add pages at a later date. Just knowing that the page placement is not set in stone will help you to go ahead and try new things without fear of “ruining the page.”

Beg, Borrow, and Steal

Your best sources of inspiration will come from looking through other people’s books, and getting ideas from websites and catalogs. Don’t be afraid to “borrow” someone else’s idea. Eventually, it will morph into something uniquely your own.

For your first page, a prepackaged kit can be really helpful. These come assembled with pre-cut paper in coordinating colors, with lined paper for journaling, or with event appropriate stickers. Think of it like teaching a child to draw. They need to start with the basics of drawing a face: the shapes, the features and the correct placement. Eventually, every child will develop a unique style of drawing.

It is the same with scrapbooking. If you start by following a plan, you will soon be comfortable enough with the techniques, tools and methods to branch out and create your own masterpieces. And don’t worry, with a little pre-planning, your pages will look great!

Tools for Beginner Scrapbookers

One of the keys to scrapbooking for beginners is to have the proper tools. The most basics are, straight and sharp scissors, a high quality photo album (with removable pages!), an adhesive tape runner, writing implements, and decorative papers.

Using an acid free colored paper as the background for your photos is usually more appealing than working over the white background. The other materials allow you to affix your pictures, write event descriptions or tell stories, and add some flair to the page.

The next set of tools I would recommend for a beginning scrapbooker, is a set of cutters and a cutting board. This will allow you to create curved edges and shapes for your pictures. Finally, stickers are usually an inexpensive purchase that can add a lot of pep and personality to your page.

Just Crop It!

The most important thing to remember is that scrapbooking is fun! It’s a great use of your time, helps you to preserve precious memories, can be a social activity among friends, and is a great creative outlet. So don’t worry about making the wrong color choice or placement decision. You finally got the pictures out from under your bed! You can’t go wrong from there.
