Skin care is not a topic of recent times; it has been in practice since ancient times, when herbal skin care was probably the only way to take care of skin. However, skin care has transformed in a big way. Herbal skin care routines have been replaced by synthetic/chemical-based skin care routines. The herbal skin care recipes which once used to be common place are not so popular today (and even unknown to a large population). This transformation from herbal skin care to synthetic, can probably be attributed to two things – our laziness (or just the fast pace of lives) and the commercialisation of skin care. Even herbal skin care products have been commercialised. These commercial herbal skin care products have to be mixed with preservatives in order to increase their shelf-life, hence making them less effective than the fresh ones made at home. However, it seems that things are changing fast and more people are now opting for natural and herbal skin care routines. But still, none want to make them at home and hence the commercial market of herbal skin care products is on the rise.

So what are these herbs or herbal skin care mechanisms?

Aloe vera, which is an extract from Aloe plant, is one of the best examples of herbal skin care product. Freshly extracted aloe vera is a natural hydrant that helps in soothing skin. It also helps in healing cuts and treating sun burns.

A number of herbs are known to possess cleansing properties. Dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary herbs, are a few examples of such cleansers. Their herbal skin care properties get invoked when they are combined with other herbs like tea.

Antiseptics are another important part of Herbal skin care. Lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel are good examples of herbs that are known to possess antiseptic properties. Lavender water and rose water also form good toners.

Tea plays an important part in herbal skin care. Tea extracts are used for treatment of skin that has been damaged by UV radiation.

Oils prepared from herbal extracts present another means of herbal skin care. Tea tree oil, Lavender oil, borage oil and primrose oil are some popular oils used in herbal skin care. Some fruit oils (e.g. extracts from fruits like banana, apple and melon) find use in shower gels (as a hydrating mix)

Homeopathic treatments and aromatherapies also come under the umbrella of herbal skin care remedies.

Herbal skin care is good not only for the routine nourishing of skin but also for treatment of skin disorders like eczema and psorasis. Most herbal skin care products don’t have any side effects (the most important reason for preferring them over synthetic products) Moreover, herbal skin care products can be easily made at home, hence making them even more attractive. So, herbal skin care is the way to go. However, this does not mean that you totally discard the synthetic products. Some people go to the extent of debating with their dermatologist, if he/she suggests a synthetic product. You should accept the fact that some skin orders might need usage of clinically proven non-herbal skin care products.

How Are Herbal Skin Care Products Any Different?

David Yu 2008-04-21
Title: How Are Herbal Skin Care Products Any Different?
There are a lot of labels flung at consumers who want a good quality, economical skin care product that will be safe to use in the long term. These labels include “Organic” and “All Natural” and “Herbal” skin care products from lotions, to soaps, wrinkle creams and acne solutions. What makes herbal skin care products worth buying? Gentler For You Herbal skin care products are not made with any materials that are synthesized, or man-made in laboratories. Usually, they have ingredients that are about as long as your arm. What herbal skin care products do contain are botanical extracts, essential oils, minerals, salts, pastes made from natural sources like shea butter from shea nuts, fruit and vegetable parts.

These synthesized products have only been around for less than one hundred years. They can, in some people, produce allergies, itching, sores and who knows what else. It is suspected that long term use of these skin care products may lead to harm. Although we don’t eat these products, we still absorb them into our bodies through our skin.

Vegetarian Soaps And if you are trying to go vegan or vegetarian, you will have to use special soaps. Did you know that animal fats are usually used to make soaps? You would need vegetarian soaps, which are often sold in shops specializing in herbal skin care products. They use oils like castor, palm, coconut and olive oils with herbs and essential oils. The binding agents are usually materials like cocoa butter. Then, they need to be dried for a while. This makes the soap making process longer, which means they usually cost more than “carnivorous” soaps.

Facial And Body Scrubs A really fun way to indulge in herbal skin care is to get an exfoliating product called a “face scrub” or “body scrub.” It looks kind or like gritty sludge. You need to make sure the abrasive grit, as well as the cleaner, is made of natural materials like ground apricot kernels, almond shells, fine sand or silica. The cleaner (or sludge base) parts usually are made with oatmeal or ground-up almonds.

You need to wet your skin first, then apply the scrub and massage away. This gives your circulatory system a workout and clears away dead skin, dirt and excess oils that may be clogging your pores. Not only that, it feels good. You only need to do this a couple of times a week or less, or you might really dry out your skin.

Skin Care: Men''s skin care

Nicholas Tan 2008-03-22
Title: Skin Care: Men''s skin care
‘Man skin care’ would seem like an alien topic to some men. It would have been even more alien a few years back. However, more and more men are now realising the importance of man skin care (and hence you see markets flush with man skin care products too). Even though the male skin is very different from that of a female, ‘man skin care’ is very similar to the skin care for women.

‘Man skin care’ too starts with cleansing. Water soluble cleansers are preferred. Cleansing helps remove the dirt, grease and pollutants from the skin and helps in preventing pore clogging. The inherent oily nature of male skin makes cleansing an important part of man skin care procedure. Cleansing should be done at least once every day, even better if it is done twice a day. Using soap on the face is discouraged.

‘Man skin care’ revolves a lot around shaving. Shaving foam/gel/cream and after shave lotion are one of the most important man skin care products. Serious ‘man skin care’ requires a proper selection of shaving related equipment and products. One of the main considerations in choosing shaving products should be the skin type (since the degree of oiliness differs from person to person). Alcohol-based aftershaves should be avoided. Proper ‘man skin care’ also mandates the use of good quality razors. Here, swivel-head razors are preferred since they are known to reduce cuts. Besides these products and equipment, it is also necessary that you use them properly. Be gentle when using your razor. Do not scratch it against your skin; use a soft and smooth action (after all it’s a matter of removing hair, not the skin itself).

Male skin is generally thicker and oilier, owing to larger pores and more active sebaceous glands. However, due to regular shaving, the skin can get dehydrated quite easily. Hence moisturisers too form an integral part of man skin care. Moisturising gel or cream should be applied after shaving. In fact, some shaving foams/ gel have an in-built moisturising effect too. Moisturisers should be patted gently over the face and massaged gently using upward strokes.

Though a man’s skin is less susceptible to skin cancer caused by UV radiation, using a sunscreen is also an important man skin care measure. You can use a moisturiser that combines sunscreen with the moisturising effect.

Another good option for ‘man skin care’ is to use man skin care products which have natural ingredients like aloe vera, sea salt and coconut etc. Naturally antiseptic oils e.g. lavender, tea tree etc also provide good means for man skin care.

Man skin care is not as difficult as a lot of men think. It just asks for a few minutes every day, in order to give you a healthy skin for present and for future.

10 Best Skin Care Tips

Title: 10 Best Skin Care Tips
10 Best Skin Care Tips

Healthy skin is truly one of the most important ingredients for beauty-enhancement. This article on skin care tips is an effort to bring the 10 best skin care tips to you. The list of skin care tips has been restricted to 10 because anything more that that would not only be difficult to remember, but also shadow the more important skin care tips. So let’s see what these top ten skin care tips are: 1) Knowing your skin type is one of the most important skin care tip. This is important because not every skin care product suits everyone. In fact, all the skin care products specify the type of skin they cater too. 2) ‘Drink a lot of water’. This will not keep your skin moist but will help in overall upkeep of your health (and in turn your skin). It might seem a bit awkward to some, however, this is an important skin care tip. 3) Cleanse your skin regularly (1-2 times everyday). A very effective skin care tip that helps in getting rid of the dirt and other harsh elements from your skin. Cleansing is especially important when you have been out of your house (and hence exposed to pollutants, dust etc). This skin care tip also advocates the use of Luke warm water for cleansing (hot and cold water, both, cause damage to your skin) 4) Be gentle, after all it’s your skin. Don’t scrub/exfoliate too hard or too often. Similarly, don’t apply too much or too many skin care products. A must-to-follow skin care tip. 5) Keep your skin moist at all times. This is one of the most important skin care tip. Don’t let your skin get dry. Dryness causes the outer layer of your skin to break, leading to a rough and unattractive appearance. Use moisturisers/ emollients. Moisturisers work best when applied while the skin is still damp. 6) Avoid the use of soap on your face. Soap should only be used from below the neck. A small but important skin care tip. 7) Use sunscreen to protect yourself from sun’s harmful UV radiations. You can use day-time moisturisers that have sunscreen built into them. Use them even when it’s cloudy. UV radiations are known to cause skin cancer, so follow this skin care tip without fail. 8) A bit of exercise and good sleep are essential too, not just for skin care but for your health as a whole. Lack of sleep can lead to formation of wrinkles below your eyes and lack of exercise can cause your skin to slack. Moreover, exercise and sleep also help in beating stress. So besides being a skin care tip, this is also a health care tip. 9) Treat skin dilemmas with care. This skin care tip is about not ignoring any skin dilemmas. Consult your dermatologist before you go on to use a skin care product (lest you do end up harming your skin even more). 10) Beat the stress. The harmful effects of stress are known to everyone, however, sometimes stating the obvious is essential too (and hence this skin care tip found its place here). Yes, stress harms skin too. So, take a break or indulge in a warm bubble bath or just get good sleep.

Using Herbal Skin Care To The Maximum

Stacey Landry 2007-02-24
Title: Using Herbal Skin Care To The Maximum
In the long history of mankind, herbs and plants have been used for many purposes such as curing diseases, relieving stress, and rejuvenating the mind and body. One should not be surprised by that fact that herbal skin care is today one of the most popular methods of taking care of your skin.

Here is some guidance on the benefits of herbal skin care.

The primary benefit of herbs as a base for skin treatment is the absence of chemicals in the products. Chemicals certainly have their uses but they also often come with many side effects. Just read the small print on some of the product packaging. Chemical products are also often the source of allergic reactions and agitated skin conditions from over-application.

Herbal skin treatment products are formulated from natural ingredients that are in harmony with the body and do not attempt to alter the body chemistry to obtain desired effects. These products support the body's immune system to naturally fight the causes of skin blemishes and other skin issues.

Skin type is important when you want to select the right products. You would have either normal to combination, oily, dry, or sensitive skin.

Herbal skin care products are far more compatible with all the skin types because they tend to be milder than their chemical counterparts. On the other hand, they do take a little longer before you see their full effect.

Still, even with herbs, you do have to select products that match you skin type, even though a wrong selection would not be as detrimental as select the wrong chemical product.

Another consideration is using the right product at the right time. There are herbal skin products designed for use in the morning and others designed for use before you go to bed. Others protect you from the harmful effects of sunrays during the day. For full effect, the right products for the matching skin type must be used at the recommended time of day.

If you are looking for overnight cures for your acne or skin blemishes, the herbs will disappoint you. On the other hand, if you want to use products that are not enemies of your body's natural chemistry and that work well with a little patience, then herbal skin care products are definitely the solution of choice.

Taking Care of Dry Skin

Mia LeCron 2007-02-08
Title: Taking Care of Dry Skin
There are usually three types of skin, ranging from oily to combination and dry skin. It is important that you realize the right way to take care for your skin type. Most people over look the fact that they have a particular type of skin, and continue to care for their skin in a way that does not suit or benefit them.

If you have dry skin, you should care for it by trying to add moisture. There are numerous products out that help care for your dry skin. If you have dry skin on your legs and arms, you should try using a moisturizing lotion daily. Lotions should be applied when you have finished showering; this will help keep your legs feeling silky and smooth. Many people seem to have problems with dry skin on their face, this too requires extra care. The skin on your face is very sensitive, and it is also the most noticed part of your body.

Dry skin needs to be cared for and washed often, but gently. When washing your face, make sure you never use hot water. The deposits in the water are too drying. Adding moisturizer after cleansing your face will help make your dry skin look better. When you wash your face, you should use a soap to care for your skin that is specifically formulated for dry skin.

Home Remedies to Treat Dry Skin

There are many products out there to help you care for your dry skin. There are also some recipes that you can use at home in your own kitchen. Some of those are listed below:

Morning skin rejuvenator and cleanser:

1 teaspoon of orange juice 1 egg yolk 1 teaspoon of olive oil 3 drops of rose water 4 drops of lemon juice

Mix all of the ingredients together and use as a cleanser in the morning.

Avocado Facial:

Avocado is a naturally rich moisturizer that is perfect for caring for dry skin.

Take one avocado and mash it until it is a creamy texture. You can then apply the mixture to both your face and neck. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse off as normal. You will instantly notice how soft and smooth your skin will feel.

Things to Remember

You should care for your skin on a daily basis. Try to avoid touching your face frequently throughout the day. This will prevent your natural oils from rubbing off. It is vital that you maintain a daily skin care routine when taking care of your dry skin. This will help maintain a naturally healthy look that you will love. Dynamite Home Remedies For Acne Relief

Wilson Stout Jr. 2007-07-26
Title: Dynamite Home Remedies For Acne Relief
Skin care products today are altogether different from what your parents used. Herbal products were once very common, but now store purchase products dominate the market. Regular herbal skin care products have been commercialized. This shift from herbal skin care to synthetic, can likely be ascribed to two matters - our indolence and the commercialization of skin care.

Acne ordinarily begins in the early teen years, when the oil secretors in the body start producing more sebum (oil). The diminutive shaft in the skin by which a hair arises, and sebum is passed from the sebaceous follicle to the surface of the skin. Some people also have too many "sticky" skin cells. In people who experience acne, these cells commingle with the oil and stop up up the hair follicles in the skin.

Commercial herbal skin care products have to be mixed with preservatives in order to increase their shelf-life, hence making them less effective than the fresh ones made at home. However, it seems that things are changing fast and more people are now opting for natural and herbal skin care routines. Dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary herbs, are a few examples of herbal skin care cleansing products. Many times they are presented in the form of herbal teas and provide excellent cleansing and refreshing.

Aloe vera, which is an extract from Aloe plant, is one of the best cases of herbal skin care product. The lower leaf of the plant is employed for medicative purpose. If the lower leaf is sliced open, the gel found can be applied on the impacted area. Leaves and seeds are the two edible parts of Aloe Vera burn plant.

Lavender, marigold, thyme, and fennel possess antiseptic properties, and are an important part of herbal skin care. Many toners include rose water and lavender water. Skin damaged by UV radiation is normally treated with tea extracts and are another important skin care ingredient.

Some fruit oils (e.g. extracts from fruits like banana, apple and melon) find use in shower gels (as a hydrating mix). Homeopathic treatments and aromatherapies also come under the umbrella of herbal skin care remedies. Oils prepared from herbal extracts present another means of herbal skin care. Dry Skin And Dry Skin Care

Dave Mcevoy 2007-03-18
Title: Dry Skin And Dry Skin Care
If you have dry skin, you already know that you need dry skin care tips that actually work. Not only is dry skin uncomfortable with its tightness, but it’s also embarrassing when your skin is flaking and looks rough. However, many causes of dry skin are not due to problems with your skin or the way that you take care of it. According to Skin Care Campaign’s website, somewhere between fifteen and twenty percent of a general practitioner’s patient load comes from skin diseases that have nothing to do with the patient’s ability to care for their skin. Does this sound like you?

Possible causes of dry skin

The truth is that dry skin care is generally a reactionary process. You feel tightness, you itch – you try to find something to make these feelings go away. However, knowing the causes of your dry skin can help to make the proper choices or seek medical attention when needed. Dry skin can be caused by the following things:

•Eczema – This skin irritation is a condition in which the skin does not perform its necessary duties of protecting the skin’s elasticity and ability to block out bacteria and other irritants. This leads to cracking and peeling of the skin, however, the cause is not generally agreed upon.

•Psoriasis – This is another condition in which the skin is unable to turn over cells in an appropriate manner, leading to dryness and flakiness of the skin’s appearance and feel. Again, the cause for this is unknown.

•Contact dermatitis – This can include a wide range of causes, making it difficult to narrow down the exact irritant. This condition occurs when you touch something and then your skin reacts to it. You might have an adverse reaction that causes a serious medical reaction or you may just notice itching and dryness. This can also be a short term affliction or one that is longer term. Common irritants are: poison ivy, poison oak, sumac, chemicals, toxins, etc.

•Environmental conditions – Others find that blowing winds or lowered humidity conditions can also lead to dry skin, typically in the cooler months.

•Lack of moisture in the body – When someone does not drink enough water, they can also suffer from dry skin. Of course, there are some medical conditions in which the body is more prone to dehydration and thus dry skin conditions.

•Heredity – And then there are some that suffer from dry skin because that’s just how their skin reacts when it’s in the world.

Symptoms of dry skin and diagnosing your skin’s condition

Dry skin seems to be fairly simple enough to diagnose. The common symptoms are:

•Callouses
•Dryness
•Flakiness
•Cracks and fissures in skin
•Redness
•Chapped skin
•Soreness
•Raw feeling
•Tightness

To determine whether or not you need dry skin care, you can look for these signs or you can also do a test to see what kind of skin you have.

Start by washing your face as you normally do in the morning, patting it down with a towel when you are done. But instead of applying any other lotions that you normally would, wait for about twenty minutes. When you are done, look at your skin and see where the dry patches are. If you do not see any, chances are good that you don’t have dry skin. But if you have dryness and flakiness in areas, you will need to work on dry skin care options.

Caring for this dry skin

Of course, the main concern that women and men with dry skin have is how to treat it. With more than one in four people reporting dry skin, it’s imperative to create a full plan of attack against the irritating dryness and possible infection from itching and scratching.

Here are some simple steps that you can use when devising a dry skin care routine:

•Drink more water each day
•Make sure to eat a balanced diet that includes some healthy fats
•Wash the face only twice a day
•Use gentle, soap free cleansers
•Wash with warm water, never hot
•Apply a moisturiser to slightly damp skin immediately after washing to seal in moisture
•Try a night time moisturiser to help with severe dryness
•For the body, apply a thick emollient to the skin before bed as well as immediately following a bath when your skin is still damp
•Try water based moisturisers at first, switching to oil based lotions when they aren’t working

However, if these basic steps aren’t helping your dry skin, you may want to talk to your general practitioner about prescriptions that might be able to help you. You might also have an underlying medication condition that is being indicated by your dry skin – and that will need to be addressed by more than just dry skin care.

Serious Skin Care

pntglobal 2007-07-16
Title: Serious Skin Care

You must have heard skin care but not serious skin care. It is recommended always use serious skin care instead of only skin care because skin care is very very serious matter. Most delicate things in human body are Eyes and Skin attracting others and representing your inner soul. Cool and calm personalities are represented by fresh and shinning skins. Stress makes skins stiff and gives ugly look. So it is important to keep your skin safe from any inner or external negative effects. You can save your skin from internal effects by keeping your personality away from negative deeds and thoughts but for external effects you need consultation and advices from experienced and reliable sources. You also may need some medicines or other things to keep your skin fresh.

Here comes therapysystems. Therapysystems not only deals in serious skin care and other beauty products but are also providing free consultation and awareness for serious skin care. These tips are freely available on their web site.

Serious skin care needs complete awareness about your skin type and the external effects your skin is facing like sun light or aging. Different types of skins needs different type of medication. Also different effects can be minimized through different solutions.

Therapysystems has wide range of products for serious skin care for different types of skin.

It is not wise to apply any available cream or lotion to your skin without knowing its effects and consultation. It may harm your skin badly and can cause greater loss to serious skin care.

Therapysystems was started by Linda Roberts in 1990 after having 25 years of experience of selling cosmetics and other beauty products. Therapy Systems is the fruit of those labors. These products contain active ingredients -- the stuff that really does the work -- to provide quick results. They are formulated in small quantities to ensure the finest quality.
