Lone Ranger or Collaborator

As a kid I spent hours alone, practicing the cello, writing novels and playing with my pet mouse. Yes, I played with a gang of neighborhood kids, too, but there's always been a strong "lone ranger" streak in me.

It wasn't until I was 36 years old that I finally began to understand fully the power and creative high of being a collaborator. I had started a handmade tile business with a friend, and we had to make hundreds of decisions every week about the business, from tile manufacturing processes and styles to sales and marketing, finances, and all the other aspects of a start-up business.

Even though I had previously worked in companies and gotten along very well with my co-workers, I had pretty much done my own job. Of course I had to ask co-workers questions and get their input on various things, but with the tile company, it was a huge collaborative endeavor. It was exciting. It was challenging. It was creative. When I took off my lone ranger mask, I could see that I loved collaborating.

A collaborator is defined as "An associate who works with others toward a common goal." In my current work as a business coach, I love collaborating with Chris Hutchinson, CEO of the Trebuchet Group, on ways to best serve our clients, owners and employees of mission-driven businesses and organizations. And every month my partner-in-life and I collaborate on a myriad of things, including discussing and editing Ordinary Brilliance.

So what does collaboration really mean? It means setting aside the strong sense of individualism that runs through mainstream American culture and acknowledging the power of community and of passionate, highly functioning teams.

It doesn't mean you give up your beliefs, opinion or identity. It does mean you get to experience the sizzle that happens in the creative chaos of collaboration. You might collaborate with your spouse/partner on your summer vacation plans. You might collaborate with a co-worker, or a professional colleague outside your own business, on coming up with a new product or service or a better way to deliver your those.

As much as anyone, I tend to think I have the best idea. Yet when I collaborate, I always find that I end up with a much superior result, whatever the project is. So, even though I am a solo entrepreneur, I collaborate actively every day with intelligent, caring people, working together to serve people and the planet.

If you are a lifelong collaborator, I applaud you. If you think you have some room to grow as a collaborator, then I encourage you to join me in that developmental process. Remember, even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.

Rich Idiots Never Become Successful Alone

Robert Shemin 2008-04-30
Title: Rich Idiots Never Become Successful Alone
Picture this: It's the final shot of a movie.

There he stands – the lone entrepreneur. The person who has single-handedly (and against all odds) built a gazillion-dollar empire.

The camera captures him (or her) tall, proud, and of course, tanned. The camera pans slowly across a landscape of logos representing all the brands now under this one person’s control.

America loves this myth. We've loved it from the first time we read the rags-to-riches stories of Horatio Alger. We've loved it from the first moment we heard the stories of the Lone Ranger. This “big cheese stands alone” myth makes for GREAT drama… but it is, of course, a MYTH!

The truth is that no Rich Idiot ever becomes successful alone. Why? Because if you attempt to do everything yourself, you’ll fail. But if you use O.P. Power, you WILL succeed!

When I realized what O.P. Power was and cracked the secret on how to use it, I turned a MAJOR money corner and never looked back.

The result? I TRIPLED my income!

And even more important, I had precious time to spend with my family and friends. Plus, I was able to take care of my own physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs. I got my life back, I got my soul back.

Over the years, I've mastered tapping into this major source of Rich Idiot power.

I’ve learned how to… - Identify, find, and attract true O.P. Power (and avoid the fake ones), and group them for maximum advantage! - Find TONS of O.P. Power with different advantages and expertise to fast track my journey to riches! - Assemble a Dream Team of O.P. Power working around the clock to help make me successful!

… And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Inside my new book “How Come That Idiot Rich And I’m Not?” you'll find out EXACTLY what O.P. Power is…. and how YOU can use it too!

Ford Unveils Power Ranger In Australia

Lauren Woods 2007-02-15
Title: Ford Unveils Power Ranger In Australia

When Power Ranger becomes the subject of a tête-à-tête, what first comes to mind is the long-running children’s television show that lasted for three seasons. With the introduction of the new Ranger from Ford Motor Co., the automaker is giving people one good reason to push Mighty Morphin Power Rangers behind to pave way for a valiant uphill warrior.

Ford Australia launched the 2007 Ranger as a replacement for the Courier, an old American pickup. "Setting new standards in the light commercial sector, the all-new Ford Ranger is a no-compromise, powerful vehicle offering the style, comfort and refinement of a passenger car," said Ford Australia President Tom Gorman.

"The new Ranger is more powerful compared with Courier, offers improved functionality, significantly increased three-tonne towing ability (when using a 3.0-litre manual transmission model fitted with a genuine Ford towpack and load leveling kit), and maintains a one-tonne plus payload across the range. Ford engineers have built on the company’s vast experience in trucks to deliver the ultimate one-tonne vehicle with the performance and power to get the job done.”

Gorman added, "At the same time, we recognized that Ranger had to be versatile enough to adapt to the changing needs of the light commercial owner in the 21st century. It needs to be a combination of reliable work mate, family vehicle, lifestyle statement and an adventure vehicle. We engineered Ranger to deliver on all these expectations. It’s the can do truck – a truck that means business."

Gorman noted that the change of name was resorted to after numerous hours of exhaustive customer research and brainstorming. “It was a tough decision to change a name that has been part of the Ford Australia family since 1978, but the research was overwhelming. The light commercial vehicle sector has changed dramatically in recent years, with customers wanting more from their truck than just a reliable work vehicle. Today's light truck owner wants the best of both worlds – a dependable, genuine truck for the industrious worker and a great family vehicle with the quality, comfort, safety and modern conveniences they demand. Ranger researched well as a brand name that exemplified all these attributes,” said Gorman.

Ford’s Ranger brand is used by the automaker around the globe. According to the company, this is the ideal time to introduce in Australia a new light truck with a bold new name. Ranger is designed to radiate a bolder and more aggressive charisma with a modern car-like interior. The pickup is equipped with two new common-rail turbo-diesel engines featuring direct injection, enhanced ride and handling and appreciably higher towing capacity.

The pickup was designed by the automaker’s pool of engineers to appear tough and rugged to stand the most demanding truck applications. “We listened to the market and focused our improvements on Ranger’s classic rugged exterior, its refined and comfortable interior, exceptional diesel performance, great driving feel and fantastic ability both on and off-road," added Gorman.

All-new Ranger was redesigned to give it a longer wheelbase and cab. To raise its capabilities to the maximum, the twin I-beam front suspension was replaced by a wishbone-style system. In addition, the new Ranger is offered with a 143 horsepower 2.3 L I4, a 148 horsepower 3.0 L V6, and a 207 horsepower 4.0 L V6 engines. All transmissions are 5-speed and come with a choice of manual or automatic. Adding an APC Cold Air Intake would also help boost the performance of the vehicle.

"The light commercial segment is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing in the Australian market," concluded Gorman. "The new Ranger, with its impressive list of features, gives Ford Australia a fantastic vehicle to enhance our well earned light truck reputation."

Are You a Small Business Lone Ranger ? Take My 10-Question Quiz to Find Out!

Debbie LaChusa 2005-06-10
Title: Are You a Small Business Lone Ranger ? Take My 10-Question Quiz to Find Out!
So what exactly is a "Small Business Lone Ranger?" A "Small Business Lone Ranger" is a business owner who does all the work themselves. No matter how big or small the project, the Lone Ranger handles 100% of it. Either because they're afraid to let go of control or because they feel they can't afford to hire help. Can you relate? I know I can!

So what's wrong with doing everything yourself? Well it's tough to grow your business if you're busy managing every single detail. I know it's a bit scary to let go of control or to consider actually hiring help, but I also know it's necessary if you want to grow your business to its fullest potential.

Take my 10-question quiz to determine if YOU are a Lone Ranger. And don't worry if you are, I've got some suggestions to help you rid yourself of this business-stifling affliction!

1. Do you work alone?

2. Do you feel no one can do your work quite as well as you?

3. Do you often feel there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done?

4. Do you maintain your own website?

5. Do you do your own accounting and billing?

6. Do you write your own sales and marketing copy?

7. Do you get your own mail?

8. Do you buy your own office supplies?

9. Do you create or deliver all your products and services by yourself?

10. Do you fulfill and ship all your sales yourself?

I think you can see this list could go on and on and on, but you get the idea. So if you answered "Yes" to most or all of these questions, guess what, YOU ARE A LONE RANGER! That's okay, I've been one, too.

When your business is small you have to wear many hats because you can't afford to hire help. But at what point do you make a decision to start delegating tasks to someone else? ANSWER: When the time you're spending on administrative tasks involved in keeping your business running prevents you from spending time growing your business.

As a business owner, you should aim to spend at least 60% of your time marketing. You are the BEST person to market your product or service. And marketing is the only way your business will grow and flourish. So if you're too busy paying bills, getting the mail, responding to email and running out to pick up office supplies, then guess what? You don't have time to market. And your business cannot grow.

So what's a Small Business Lone Ranger to do? Here are 6 tips:

1. Make a list of all the tasks that don't require your specific expertise or talent (things like sorting mail, buying office supplies, and filing).

2. Make a second list of the tasks that consume a lot of your time but are OUTSIDE your specific area of expertise (things like maintaining your web site or managing your business finances and accounting).

3. Determine how many hours per week you spend doing these tasks.

4. Determine what additional sales and marketing, or other business-building activities you would have time for if you didn't have to do these other tasks.

5. Estimate how many additional clients or sales you could generate with this extra time spent on marketing and building your business.

6. Make a decision to hire an assistant, bookkeeper, web site manager or whatever specialists are appropriate to handle these tasks. Determine what you can afford based on your results in Tip Number 5.

I know you're probably wondering how you'll be able to afford it. But really, we can't afford NOT to hire help. Unless we are satisfied with keeping our business small. And don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that — I've done it for seven years. But if you have a bigger vision (like I do now), then you need a team to help you make that vision a reality.

To start with, your team should include an assistant to do the work that is not a good use of your time. This doesn't have to be a full-time employee; I'm starting out with someone just a few hours a week. You'll also want to get a bookkeeper and a CPA to manage your finances — they'll not only free you up from your accounting tasks, they'll also help you keep more of what you do make.

So take a moment to get a clear vision of what kind of business you want to create. And if that vision is larger than you can accomplish on your own, take the six steps above to get a team to help you make it a reality.

Ford Ranger: Still the Quality Truck

Terry Brown 2006-02-10
Title: Ford Ranger: Still the Quality Truck

Available in several trim levels that comprise of the XL, the STX, tee XLT, the SPORT, the FX4, and the FX4 Level II, the 2006 Ford Ranger is a compact pick up truck. This vehicle shows off a passenger capacity of three. For eighteen years, and still counting, the Ford Ranger has been dubbed and noted as the best selling compact pickup in the United States. The R.L. Polk and Company has given this vehicle the award for the highest ownership loyalty in five consecutive years. For this year, the 2006 Ford Ranger sports a more aggressive look coupled with a bolder and a more athletic appearance.

Auto enthusiasts loved the Ford Ranger upon its introduction and public debut in 1982. The Ford Motor Company introduced this pickup truck and the enthusiasts came flocking in. They were mostly after quality vehicles and the Ford Ranger was what they wanted. For years, the Ford Ranger has been crafted and sold with sporty and impressive looks that is just like the first Ford Ranger introduced more than a decade ago.

The present Ford Ranger holds design changes that include revised bumper colors, a horizontal grille insert, rugged fender flares, clear-lens parking lamps, new tail lamps, new fog lamps, a 9-inch Ford oval mounted on the grille and tailgate, and a Ranger windshield logo. It comes with a 2.3 liter engine with four cylinders. New color choices for this vehicle include screaming yellow clearcoat, torch red clearcoat, and redfire clearcoat metallic. Additional options for this vehicle include two 15-inch Alcoa forged aluminum wheels, body-color side moldings, as well as new packages. Its exterior motif holds equipment and features like an aggressive valance and power-dome hood structure as well as a nostril grille. These are very much consistent with the rest of the Ford truck lineup. The interior boasts of a sporty feel and functionality. The Ford Ranger has seats with sculpted bolster and seatbacks for comfort and support. There also are optional sport bucket seats, leather-trimmed seating surfaces as well as a steel wheel trimmed and wrapped in leather.

Great changes and upgrades were considered to be milestones for the Ford Ranger. Those that made waves included the 1965 use of the Ranger name as a styling package for the F-Series pickup trucks. For 1981, the plans for this vehicle model were unveiled and presented in an auto show. The following year, the Ford Ranger came rolling off the assembly line and into the streets. A year after driving its way to the market, the Ford Ranger’s V6 makes it as Off-Road magazine’s 4x4 Truck of the Year. It was also named Ranger 4x4 of the year by the 4-Wheel and Off-Road magazine in the year 1986. It also was selected as Pickup of the Year by the Truckin’ magazine in 1993. Come 2003, the Rocky Mountain Automotive Press decides to give to the Ford Ranger the award for the Best Compact Pickup of the Rockies.

Auto Parts Information renews its commitment in delivering superbly crafted Ford Ranger parts and Ford parts with its impressive array of stocks at its online store. This company boasts of impressive and quality parts like A/C condensers, radiators, hubcaps, and floor mats among many others. These parts are the best in the industry.

Home Business Withers For Lack Of Support

Jim Sperlich 2008-01-15
Title: Home Business Withers For Lack Of Support

Entrepreneurs cannot work their magic in a vacuum. While the figures of the Lone Ranger and the Dirty Harry may have made for some great TV, they did not have to sell a good, woo a customer, win a client, or impress an investor. This kind of personality is perhaps the least conducive for home business purposes, yet some entrepreneurs have found that they slipped into the mindset of its being them against the rest of the world.

Embarking on their business venture, they have forgotten to get one of the most important things in place: a support network. A home business withers for lack of support and any entrepreneur who has ever had to face a grim day, an audit notice from the Internal Revenue Service, a malfunctioning computer, a childcare problem, or just a water main break on the day of the big presentation to a new investor knows that without the loving support of friends and family, there is precious little that they can accomplish.

Thus, it is highly surprising that so many opt to plan, think about, dream about, and then seek to implement their dreams all by themselves – even as they are surrounded by scores of people! It is the savvy entrepreneur who will ensure that a solid support network is in place before she or he will ever even consider starting out in business!

Start with your spouse. It is vital that your spouse supports your decision to become an entrepreneur, and since you will be working from home, it is important that the other person is on board with your converting part of their residence into a business or office space. This is especially crucial if you will have clients or customers coming to your home and your spouse may need to either “disappear” or ensure that the home is presentable.

Follow up with the kids. If you have children, they need to understand what the plan is and the part they will play in it. Even the very young can understand that while you have a client visit, they are not to bang on the door or play loudly just outside. Instead, they should know that they will need to remain in their rooms and play quietly and wait with any questions until you are finished with your business meeting.

Friends will need to be enlisted for emotional support – after all, who can cheer you up better than a friend who knows just when to stop by and take you out for a latte – and also to roll up their sleeves and help out. There may be times when you need help with childcare or perhaps a mass mailing needs to be stuffed into envelopes and has stamps affixed to it. Whatever the case may be, without having your friends in your corner, you will find that starting and running a home business is an uphill battle.

On a side note, remember that getting family and friends on board is also the antidote to having friends and others stop by uninvited and seek to enlist you for personal favors since you are home during the day. In the same vein, friends and family understand that just because you are at home, you are still working and thus need to be treated with the same consideration as someone who is putting in a full day at the office.
