There are some instances where dogs need to be taken away from their owners as these people have proved to be neglectful and sometimes abusive pet owners. To help get these innocent animals to safety there are different types of dog rescue groups. These various groups are comprised of professionals in the animal world like vets, animal handlers, and dog walkers.

When these people are informed about a neglected dog they begin the dog rescue process. To make sure that the owners will not cause any problems sometimes the local police will be informed. Once the dog rescue has been accomplished the team heads back to a dog shelter.

At the shelter one of the dog rescue team will gain the animal’s trust and the process of settling the dog for the duration of its stay will begin. The first part of the dog rescue is to see to the various health aspects of the dog. This means that the dog must be cleaned up carefully so that any wounds or injuries will not be further aggravated. Once the dog has been cleaned and carefully groomed the vet at the dog rescue will see what the injuries need to be healed.

This process has to proceed very carefully as the dog will be unsure of its surroundings and will be ready to defend itself. Once the various wounds and injuries have been looked after, a nutritious meal will have to be planned. This way any malnutrition will soon disappear and the dog will soon begin to look healthy.

The kennel where the dog will stay while it is at the dog rescue centers will be a temporary home. As soon as a foster family is found the dog will be moved to stay with the foster family. It is from these foster families that the dogs will learn to trust humans and also become sociable animals.

While the dog is with the foster family the other training factors of dogs are begun. These training periods will be conducted with love and care so that the dog begins to enjoy learning all of its new tricks and commands. Once the dog has fully adapted to being a member of a family the dog is ready for adoption.

The various applicants who come to the dog rescue will see happy and healthy dogs just waiting to be adopted and taken home. For a previously neglected, abused or malnourished dog the best place to start a new future can be found in a dog rescue.

Rescue Chihuahua: Is It For You?

Richard Cussons 2007-12-10
Title: Rescue Chihuahua: Is It For You?
When we say Chihuahua rescue, the first thing that comes into our minds is a pitiful dog abandoned because of sickness, behavior problem or old age. But that is not the truth. Dogs in a rescue are not necessarily problem dogs. Some of them were abandoned because of their owner's incapability to provide proper care, either they can not afford to procure the dog's needs or they find the breed unfit to their way of living.

Nevertheless, there are more reasons why a rescue Chihuahua can still be a good household pet. Most dogs in the rescue are older dogs and are already housebroken so you will never have to go through ardurous task of housebreaking. They will less likely commit accidents and the possibility of you cleaning their dirt and urine stain is minimal.

When they are turned over to the rescue, the rescue staff gathers as much information as possible from the previous owner. This information includes the temperament, whether its good with children or other dogs and animals, how much it barks and other important information. Most of them are already vaccinated so you will never have to worry about the vaccination procedure and the possible side effects of it to the dog.

Some people think that rescue dogs are turned over to ther rescue because they are sick or are already very old and dying. Another wrong connotation I must say! Why? Dogs in the rescue are older but not very old. They usually range from one to three years of age.

The rescue don't just give out Chihuahuas just like giving out of freebies or food samples in the grocery stores. Before anyone can get a rescue, they make sure you can provide proper care for the Chihuahua. Dogs at a rescue may sometimes need medical services, so they will make sure that you are aware of that and you are willing to provide care the best way you can.

While it is true that the rescue shelter requires adoption fee, it is not true however that they are doing it for a profit. The fee is to cover up the expenses spent for the dog while in the shelter. Whether it's spent for the basic needs or the medical needs, the rescue shelter has the right to require adoption fee so that they can continue helping more abandoned dogs. They earn their money to take care of their animals through donations and adoption fees.

Getting a rescue dog will not only benefit you. Rescue shelters can accommodate limited number of dogs. By getting a dog from the rescue, you help the community by freeing one space for another dog that needs the care of the rescue shelter. Thus you help minimize the number of stray dogs in the community. You will also save the dog from possible death on the pound.

Dog Rescue Groups

Title: Dog Rescue Groups
Dog rescue groups are designed primarily to rescue any breed of dog that is being abused by their owners. The various dog rescue groups can legally go into a house and take any dog out that is being mistreated. In addition to rescuing dogs from abusive owners dog rescue groups will also recover the various dogs that are at the overcrowded pounds.

The other types of dogs that dog rescue groups go to the aid of is that of the many different strays and abandoned dogs. These dogs are all taken to dog rescue centers. At these centers the staff will calm the frightened animal down. Once the trust of the animal has been gained the staff will wash and clean the dirt and other matter that has accumulated on the dogs.

When the dog has been thoroughly cleaned the veterinarian from the dog rescue group will begin healing the many cuts, scrapes and wounds that are on the dog. In addition any internal and external parasites are gotten rid of. The result of this is the dog has a better chance for a full recovery.

Once the grooming process and the medical examination has been finished the dog is petted and given lots of love. For many of these dogs this is the first time in their entire life that they are cared for and made comfortable and free. These dogs will also be given a nutritious meal so that they can begin to look healthy.

Before these dogs are ready to be adopted the dog rescue groups will place the dogs in foster care. The various families who take care of these unwanted dogs are used to caring for and training these dogs to become loving members of a family.

The various social and behavioral lessons that many adoptive families want from their new four legged family members will be well learnt before the dog rescue groups will consider that the dogs in their shelter are ready for adoption.

When a successful adoption has been accomplished the dog rescue group will provide counseling for the adoptive family to get used to the presence of their new pet and the changes that are present in their lives as a result of a pet. These are the many faces of dog rescue groups.

These dog rescue groups provide us with a valuable alternative to euthanizing unwanted dogs and puppies. The next time that you hear about a dog rescue group in your area you may want to see how you can help these groups look after the many needs of their doggy tenants.

Wisdom with the psalms

Joseph Jagde 2007-07-07
Title: Wisdom with the psalms
Psalm 144

Within this Psalm of David, the theme of rescue is mentioned 3 times. In verse 7 it says" Stretch out your hand from on high and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hand of aliens.

There is immediacy to the need for rescue, the example of being overwhelmed by mighty waters is obvious. God is sitting on the lifeguard chair, to be rescued He has to come to us in the situation we are in to effect a rescue. If I am in Hawaii type super waves, and I can’t get out, my rescue has to come to me. In verse 13 it says" May our barns be filled with produce of every kind, may our sheep increase by the thousands, by tens of thousands in the fields." People may be in some situations, particularly but not only financial where they might be secretly hoping for a ridiculous increase and we can see the evidence by the amount of people waiting on line to by lottery tickets. At the same time, God must at least in some areas be offering the possibility of such exponential increases. Today it might not be sheep, it might be something else that matters to us. This is something we could at least test, and see if the increase does begin and if it continues, then watch out. But also, this would be a matter of trust, that God is following through with a continuous increase that just isn’t going to stop. Some people, if they have good fortune, believe it can only last for a little while and things will even out. These verses say that it could be otherwise.

Verse 15 say, “ Happy are the people to whom such blessings fall: happy are the people whose God is the Lord." Such blessings are a correlate to happiness, and there is a link between God’s blessings and happiness, so happiness both for ourselves and others is something we want to bring into the prayer of asking for an increase and blessings. The prayer discussion should also revolve around happiness as well. There is no reason to close our eyes and hope, we can be very specific with God about how a wanted blessing, the falls upon us, meaning it is properly targeted, involves our happiness. Imagine asking for rain, but it falls on the next State away. That is not a blessing that falls upon us.

Psalm 143

Verse 6 “ I stretch out my hands before you, my soul thirsts for you like a parched land." Gee, just as I’m reading this, I forgot to water my plants. But thinking about this verse, maybe sometimes we don’t want to admit or realize we are on a parched land in some areas of our lives. It could be a working situation, relationship situation, where the metaphor of parched could be applied, and it becomes as issue of the soul as well. So we can ask specifically that God help the soul of ourselves and others and how soul problems can show a physically visible manifestation of the thirst of the soul. Verse 10 says, “ Teach me to do your will, for you are my God, let your good spirit lead me." You do read and hear lots and lots of talk about doing God’s will. But then, what does God want me to do? More than likely, I am somewhat unsure of that in some degree. Here the psalm is very specific. Ask for the good spirit to lead you, in matters that refer to God’s will. In matters that are maybe a little bigger and more important than the mundane, and the mundane can be a matter of prayer as well, we want to ask as we seek God’s will, that the leading of the good spirit be with us in this particular matter, meaning partly that the Spirit goes ahead of us a bit in the matter, because the leader is usually at the front. Think of someone leading a hike for example, he or she is at the front of the group or the other individual.

Verse 11 says" For your names sake, O’Lord, preserve my life, In your righteousness bring me out of trouble. The psalmist is relying specifically on the righteousness of the Lord. This righteousness, is what is going to bring him out of his troubles. Going back to verse 2," Do not enter into judgment with your servant, for no one is righteous before you. “ He is not looking for judgment, or to claim his own righteousness, he is looking to lean on the righteousness of God, which is a powerful presence, to right the wrongs, and is realy ultimately the only reliable source of making things right.

Psalm 142

Verse 1’ With my voice I cry to the Lord: with my voice I make supplication to the Lord." One thing to meditate on is the power of the voice, and even if God likes the sound of your voice. If it is one of the voices He is looking to hear from a little bit more often or in different ways. But the voice you carry with you, in the sense of prayer, is more important than the wallet in your pocket.

Verse 2 and 3" I pour out my complaints before him: I tell my trouble before him, When my spirit is faint you know my way."

Pouring out your complaints is really emptying out the bottle so to speak. When you are pouring a liquid to drink, eventually as you keep doing this, all the liquid ends up in the glass or cup. You don’t just want to tell God about the good things, but also tell him rather specifically that this or that is indeed troubling me, and it could be personal or something in the outer world, you could say, hey the world is in trouble. God is the confidant for any and all troubles we might encounter and as we are outright fading or fainting, or something akin to giving up, or not feeling up to something, God is the one who still has the light on the way to go.

Verse 5, “ I cry to you, Oh Lord, I say," You are my portion in the land of the living,"

For the palmist, God is the portion and this is emotional for him. He literally cries for the Lord, and the Lord is his portion, here and now, in this life.

The last sentence in verse 7 says," The righteous will surround me, and you will deal bountifully with me. “ As things turn around for this troubled man, he is surrounded by righteous people as he finds his way out of his troubles. The Lords dealing with an individual seem to fit a bigger picture that can be seen. To be literally surrounded by righteous people is a big picture event.

Psalm 141

Verse 2" Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting of my hands as evening sacrifice."

Here the theme is incense rising and the prayer itself rising to the presence of the Lord. The prayer itself is something that the Lord beholds.

It is also saying the prayer counts. In the society and world right now, there is certainly a lot of counting, but think about this, prayer counts.

Verse 4 “Do not turn my heart to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds, in the company of those who work iniquity, do not let me eat of their delicacies. ‘

This verse shows how the wicked can be quite sophisticated and intricate in the designs of their deeds, and in some ways there is an attractiveness to what they are doing. Wicked deeds tend to sap away time as well, and a characteristic is that the people involved with them are often quite busy about doing these wicked things, and how it could occupies the greater part of time.

Verse 10 ‘ Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I alone escape."

You might be the only one out there at times, that will escape. It is interesting that wickedness can be seen as setting traps for others. The wicked like to bring others into the fold. Ultimately, they may fall into the exact trap they set for others. In verse 5 it says, Let the righteous strike me, let the faithful correct me." As the psalmist is continually praying, he is still spotting some trouble and asking that the righteous help him by pointing out things. An actual turning away from the Lord, could encompass getting busy with wicked deeds. You would be better off sleeping or doing nothing than going that route.

Psalm 140

The focus of the psalm is the protecting and deliverance from evildoers, especially the violent.

Verse 4 says, “ Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, who have planned my downfall."

This verse is the psalmist asking God to guard him, something most people don’t concentrate on asking for in prayer, but it is something to think about, asking the Lord, especially as danger arises.

Verse 11" Do not let the slanderer be established in the land, let evil speedily be hunted down the violent.

This is a prayer not so much for the individual but for the land itself, that the violent don’t get a chance to set up house, that they get chased down, actually hunted which has a stronger connotation, and again, by embracing this violence, those who do this may themselves be quickly hunted down.

How To Find a Search and Rescue Dog Training School

Mike Nelson 2006-01-14
Title: How To Find a Search and Rescue Dog Training School
There are many things dogs can be trained to do but, of all the tasks a working dog can perform, search and rescue ranks the highest for needing qualified, professional trainers. A Search and Rescue (SAR) dog’s performance, quite literally, can determine life or death to a human in need.

As shocking as it may sound, there is no set of standards for rescue dog training. Subsequently, rescue clubs, teams, and individuals emerge as trainers, when, in fact, they may know little, or nothing at all, about training a SAR dog. Attending seminars and reading books on the subject are worthwhile endeavors, but they do not constitute being a SAR dog trainer. Sadly, in a large percentage of cases, this is an assumption not only made, but followed, and replicated. In some cases, those touting themselves as SAR dog trainers scarcely have enough knowledge to teach a dog simple parlor tricks, let alone promptly and accurately scenting or tracking skills, where a human life hangs in the balance.

Even when the topical qualifications are in place, this is no substitute for failing to research the validity of those qualifications. You will hear the term “qualified instructor” often from those with police/military backgrounds. While this sounds impressive, keep in mind that there is no “qualification” standard to begin with, so the very title is misleading. Further, there may be a very good reason that the individual is no longer training/handling outside of the police/military venues. That reason may be a desire for work in the private sector, or it could be indicative of poor performance.

Now, I’m not trying to paint a bleak picture; there are a number of incredible SAR dog trainers out there. All of these great instructors hold one thing in common: they can bear your scrutiny with flying colors. If you’re making the huge step towards training your dog for SAR, then you really need to make the right choices. Here are the top things to consider when choosing a SAR dog trainer:

1. Experience. There is no substitute and there is no better gauge of a trainer’s value. Look for trainers who have years of experience in a wide variety of disciplines, not just SAR. Demonstrated ability, in more than a single focus, means that the trainer will be able to administer a wide variety of training methods to accomplish the end goal. Other potential disciplines to look for include: agility, obedience, hunting, or herding. This experience is easily verified by titles such as: Companion Dog (CD, CDX) Agility Dog (AD, MACH, NATCH), Schutzhund (I, II, II) to name a few.

2. Actual SAR experience is a must. SAR dogs perform a number of tasks that your instructor MUST have real-world experience with. They need to be well-versed, from first-hand experience, on how lost or fleeing people will act, how a crime scene needs to be preserved in cadaver searches resulting from criminal acts, etc.

3. The trainer should be well-versed on all breeds and capable of assessing and advising on the limitations and capacity of that breed.

4. Separate marketing from proven performance. If your trainer is good, you can bet he or she will have references. Contact those agencies and inquire about the specific services the trainer was hired for and their thoughts regarding the trainer’s services. Just because they have a polished web site, well-designed brochures, etc., does not mean they’re the best pick, by default. In some cases, a smaller organization may actually yield better references.

The decision for you, and your dog, to become involved in SAR is a big one. Take the time to do your homework. Your success and enjoyment will not only be richer but it may, in fact, save a life! Melissa Buhmeyer has been involved in dog training for two years and is the co-founder of http://www.dogtraining-school.com, a resource for aspiring professional dog trainers and all dog enthusiasts.

Selecting a Rescue Dog

Gerry Ronson 2007-11-14
Title: Selecting a Rescue Dog
In this article i am going to discuss rescue dogs and what to avoid when looking for a rescue dog. Like any dog a rescue dog can make your life hell. Some people are forced to walk there dog at ridiculously early of late times just to avoid seeing other people or dogs. Many dogs have aggression problems that may take years to get over thats if they ever get over there aggressive behaviors. You can make a dog not attack people/dogs but you cannot make a dog like people or dogs. In this article i will try to inform you of what can be cured easily and what cannot be cured easily.

Most people feel a puppy is a more secure choice than a rescue dog this simply isn't the case. When you select a rescue dog you can asses its temperament and see it around strangers and other dogs. Where as when you buy a puppy your really just buying a little bundle of flesh that could mature into a dog with some serious problems. There are advantages to having a puppy such as you can meet the parents and even grandparents in some cases. The puppies breeder will also know the complete family history and any genetic medical problems that may arise.

There are a lot of things to avoid when selecting a new rescue dog. Aggressive male dogs around the age of ten months who were not previously aggressive have usually become dominant due to hormonal reactions. This is the time when male dogs who would become aggressive will start to show it. So picking a male rescue dog before this age may cause you to end up with a different dog a few months down the line that you originally wanted. Female dogs on the other hand tend to either be aggressive when first introduced to other dogs or around the time of there first season. With female dogs turn aggressive when first introduced to other dogs may get over it with some socialization however there are a lot who do not. If a female dog who is aggressive at first introduction is not good with other dogs after around six week of socialization then the dog is unlikely to be good with other dogs for quiet some time.

Try and avoid any dog who displays aggressive tendency's. Many nervous dogs will show aggression so if its a nervous dog your interested in then make sure you check it around as much as possible. If the nervous dog you are interested in shows no aggression then its properly a good selection as if it wont bite while afraid then it properly wont be aggressive under normal circumstances.

Dogs who are very confident and aggressive are more difficult to deal with. Fear is a big reason for aggression but there are many others some dogs are just bullies other dogs are dominant. Dogs who are bullies are extremely difficult to deal with as they are enjoying doing what there doing. Dominant dogs are sometimes easier and some times harder to deal with than nervous dogs.

Some dog breeds are more prone to certain types of aggression. Many dogs in the herding breed become nervous and aggressive because of this. Others groups have there own problems terriers tend to be dominant and some times bullies. The working group is another breed who can show dominance. In my opinion the group of dogs who are less likely to suffer from aggressive problems are the gun dog group. The gun dog group generally makes very god pets and are superb with children. Of course breed is only a part of what makes a dogs nature. The purpose of why a dog was bred by its breeder is another big factor. Some breeders breed for nature some for showing and others for working ability. These factors are all a huge thing to consider when selecting a rescue dog or when selecting a puppy.

Always remember to be careful when selecting a dog theres no guarantee a dog will ever get over aggressive tendency's. The most important thing is to make sure of that the dog has a good nature theres absolutely no substitute for a good nature. Make sure you see the dog in as many different situations as possible and look into the breed and what the breed is bred for in this day and age.
