The diagnostics that are associated with computers can help to identify any problem or failure that computers show when they are having problems. Diagnostics are used to test out the computer system, which includes both the BIOS and memory, software, and even the hardware that is attached to the computer.

The most common types of problems will occur when your computer is down to very low resources, which can either be a low amount of RAM, or a low disk space. These conditions are very common, and generally result in your computer running very slow. This can easily be fixed, all you have to do is defrag your hard drive, and get rid of some programs and files that you no longer use or need.

Almost all types of computer diagnostic software can find and fix just about any problem that you are having. It normally starts off with a BIOS examination, and goes on from there. PC diagnostics
software can determine a lot from the BIOS, from the common settings to those that have a major impact on both boot up and performance.

No matter what you do, you should never modify or tamper with the BIOS settings, as it can lead to serious problems. If you do plan to modify or mess with your BIOS, you should always create a backup first, just in case something goes wrong. The BIOS settings can be very tricky, although they are responsible for a lot to do with your computer. If you have never been in the BIOS before, you really shouldn’t be modifying anything inside of it.

Depending on the diagnostics program that you are using, there will be several different features available. Right now, two of the most popular are Norton Systemworks and PC Doctor. Both of these programs offer full diagnostics software, good for fixing just about any software related computer program you can imagine.

Once you run the program, you’ll be able to select the diagnostic test that you are planning to run. Some offer you a full system scan, which will scan your entire computer and then display any problems that you having. After displaying any problems, the software will normally give you an option to go ahead and fix it. As long as the problem is nothing serious, the diagnostic software can generally fix it.

The more complicated problems, such as hardware failures or hard drive crashes, are a totally different story. They will require a technician who is very experienced, that can rebuild the hardware. Diagnostic software can report hardware problems to you, although most of the time it is unable to fix it.

There are other computer diagnostic software that you run after starting the computer or rebooting, that will check everything from BIOS. These types are great, although the types such as Norton and PC Doctor are by far superior. They offer far more features, including defragment, cache cleaner, and the option to delete your temporary Internet files. These features are great to have, especially if you aren’t the technical type.

For more reasons than one, computer diagnostic software is the ideal way to find and prevent problems with your computer. Norton Systemworks offers you Ghost as well, which is the perfect way to back up your data. You can back up certain files, or just go ahead and back up your entire hard drive. Systemworks and Ghost are very easy to use, even if you are completely new to computers. For everything they offer you - computer diagnostic programs are the ideal way to prevent problems before they happen.

A Comparison: Using Registry Repair Tools Versus Local Computer Repair Shop to improve PC performan

Ian Henman 2008-04-30
Title: A Comparison: Using Registry Repair Tools Versus Local Computer Repair Shop to improve PC performan
What do you think is a more effective way of repairing your PC system registry files? Taking it into your local computer repair shop or downloading a piece of diagnostics software to get the job done? Quite honestly it's not a cut and dry answer, but this article will explore the differences. More specifically we'll discuss how trial and error effects your bill, why software is consistent, and which choice is best for your PC problems. By the end of this article you should be able to decide if trying PC repair software is a good choice for you next time you run into a hardware of software error.

The Trial and Error Process of Technicians

You probably don't realize it but even those positioned as computer experts rarely know exactly what the problem is without first running some tests. Just like a doctor or auto repair tech there is a trial and error portion to diagnosing and repairing a problem. Most computer repair people have a list of issues in their mind that a problem could be, they start at the top and run down that list until they locate the issue. If they can't find it then it means research time. No one is an expert at everything, and quite often technicians will use scanning software to check your hardware, registry, and files to find a problem.

The consistency of Registry Repair tools

I'm not going to suggest that registry repair software is better then taking your PC to a repair shop. How ever, registry repair tools perform the same scan each time, similar to that list of issues the technician has in his had. The difference is that the software does it in about 10 minutes or less, every time. The software then diagnoses the issues found and offers a remedy all in well under a half hour.

The verdict here is that a piece of registry repair software performs a very similar task to your computer repair person. The difference is you're not paying the software by the hour, it's a one time fee to buy the software and that's it. Add in that software generally offers new updates as time goes on and you're actually protecting yourself for a longer period of time all for one price.

Which option is best for your PC repair needs?

I always recommend that you try diagnostic software first. Why? Simple the cost is much less then a trip to the repair shop, and most of these software publishers offers a money back guarantee. If you're not happy with how the program performed you just ask for your money back. What's the worst that could happen? You could end up at the repair shop anyways, but best case scenario you locate and fix the problem yourself saving you both time and money. Vista Diagnostics: Affordable MRI private diagnostic imaging centre

Joe Lawrence 2007-04-30
Title: Vista Diagnostics: Affordable MRI private diagnostic imaging centre
Vista Diagnostics is one of the sharpest of a new breed of companies offering high quality medical diagnostic imaging for affordable prices in the UK independent medical sector.

Vista Diagnostics currently offer MRI scans performed by highly qualified staff using state of the art technology, and reporting by NHS affiliated 'super specialist' radiologists. With the quality of the raw medical service being at least as good as, if not better than any NHS diagnostic centre, Vista Diagnostics' main offer to the public concerns its affordability and accessibility. The scans, including reports, range from just £250 to £400 - a highly affordable alternative to other MRI centres in the UK, offering the same service for upwards of £600. Whilst this is certinly an attractive proposition to self paying and insured patients, what is perhaps more important, is that Vista Diagnostics will accomodate patients at a wide variety of times (open hours are twelve hours a day, seven days a week), WITHOUT the infamous waiting lists of weeks or even months, experienced by a large proportion of those requiring MRI scans in the UK.

The huge advantages in quality, affordability, accessibility and service amongst companies such as Vista Diagnostics are set to revolutionise the face of outsourced diagnostic imaging in the UK. www.vistadiagnostics.com

How Your Computer Mouse Works

Marci Crane 2007-04-23
Title: How Your Computer Mouse Works
Since the 80s or 90s—maybe even the 70s if you were a part of the “computer IN crowd”--kids have been playing with them, you’ve been clicking away at them, and your parents and grandparents have been trying to avoid the use of profanity around them!

What is this precious item? It’s a computer mouse and they are the innovative way that we as computer consumers send our computer many of the specific signals that we want our computer to perform.

What is a Computer Mouse? A computer mouse—like most engineering feats seem to be—is about an idea and then a sequence of steps. How does a computer mouse work? Keep reading to find out.

How Your Computer Mouse Works1: The Ball You remember the ball mice right? Well, today not everyone uses a ball computer mouse as there are so many other computer mice to choose from. Today we have wireless mice, optical mice, RF mice and Bluetooth mice. You can also find an ergonomic mouse with a touch screen panel today—but before you go shopping, let’s go back in time to a slightly more antiquated ball computer mouse. This mechanical computer mouse, if not the first mouse was at least one of the first and obviously very widely used items. It has a little ball inside of it that would partially protrude at the base—just enough to let you wiggle it around with spherical, wheel-like ease. This ball however wasn’t just for your navigational convenience. On the contrary, when you, as the human commander, make that ball spin around, that is where the human and technology interaction begins. When you gave your mouse a tug to the right for instance the wheel would rotate and would in turn rotate a roller object (looks like a wheel, not a sphere) contiguous to the ball. This roller will “sense” directional movement along the X-axis and another roller according to my online source, “detects motion in the Y direction.”2

Then things really begin to get interesting. The rollers inside the computer mouse also happen to be connected to two shafts (one for each roller) and when the computer mouse ball is rolled and in turn rotates the rollers then the rollers rotate their respective shafts. The shafts are connected to a disk which has holes around the edges. There is also a light emitting diode (LED) on one side of the disk and a sensor on the other side that detects infrared light. My online source describes it well:

“On either side of the disk there is an infrared LED and an infrared sensor. The holes in the disk break the beam of light coming from the LED so that the infrared sensor sees pulses of light. The rate of the pulsing is directly related to the speed of the mouse and the distance it travels.”3

In other words, you can move you mouse at a greater or lesser speed by just be rolling the computer mouse ball at a faster pace and in turn sending through more light flash signals via the disk, the LED and the sensor (infrared).

Then of course, this “light information” must be converted to the computer’s binary language of 1’s and 2’s. This is done with an on-board processor chip that “can read “the infrared light signals” and then translates them into the binary language that is then sent on to other processors and areas of the computer that exact specific commands.

Isn’t a computer mouse outstanding?!

Local vs. Network Diagnostics

Micro 2000 2005-05-31
Title: Local vs. Network Diagnostics
Obviously anyone who maintains PCs, whether local or on a network, is bound to be familiar with the demands of getting the offending machine back up and running as quickly as possible!

Most have experienced the frustration of trying to pin point the problem, which could even boil down to being simply a faulty component.

Some of you may even have used diagnostic software to help locate the problem, saving in some cases hours of time.

Of course the accuracy of the many diagnostics software and tools available on the market varies, depending on just how in depth their tests are, and just how thoroughly they interrogate the system.

Sometimes people ask us why they can’t run our diagnostic software, MicroScope, over a network. Most of the reasons for this are related to OS independence, so this article should be read after finishing The Importance of OS Independence - available at www.micro2000.co.uk/techtips/

One reason though is that hardware problems of any consequence will normally interfere with network communications. If you can even talk to another system over the network, you have just checked out about 95% of what you can check out over a network. Any testing more thorough than that will require local access.

Not being able to do in-depth hardware testing over a network is just an extreme case of the truism that you can’t do accurate hardware testing under a general-purpose OS such as Windows, DOS or Linux, because these programs are designed to run the hardware in the background, insulated from the user and applications.

The bootable operating system that comes with MicroScope bypasses all of that OS interference, but it also bypasses the network configuration, protocols, NIC drivers and other parameters that are unique to each networked system. It’s easy to forget that Windows or Linux on that system originally had to be configured for proper network operation, and that had to be done at the system itself.

It is technically possible to make the MicroScope operating system network-capable, but it would have to be set up on each machine being diagnosed, just as the resident OS had to be set up. Then, the system would have to be re-configured for the resident OS after MicroScope had done its job in pin pointing the hardware error. As a practical matter, nobody is going to do that when they can just boot up MicroScope and find the problem in a minute or two.

Of course, many competing products avoid the reconfiguration problem by running under Windows, and these diagnostics can theoretically be executed over a network using Windows’ own network configuration. The price they pay is that they cannot directly access the hardware and get the same accurate information available to MicroScope, and if used over a network they are even further removed from every piece of hardware, with the possible exception of the network card.

The short answer is that it is not possible to get accurate hardware diagnostic results over a network. There is just no substitute for sitting down at the ailing machine, and running the best diagnostic program available.

The Importance Of A Computer Checkup

2008-03-24
Title: The Importance Of A Computer Checkup
What do you do when you are sick? You seek medical consultation and look for a doctor right? What happens if our computer becomes ‘sick’, is there really such a thing as a computer doctor? Surprisingly, there is! Computer diagnostics software is the equivalent of doctors and can provide for regular maintenance and can even look into the causes of the computer’s problems. They can determine the true problem at hand and then provide you a solution to solve that very problem. No matter is it performance issues or loss of data, the computer diagnostics software is there to help you understand how your computer works and how to maintain it.

How important the diagnostic software are is not debatable as it can help you prevent major system errors to do with your computer before they fatally occur. If you are a person who experiences regular system instability, where you often see the blue error screens or having to reboot as it froze, it is time to pick up a computer diagnostics software ad identify your problems. The diagnostic software will start to run tests in your computer as soon as you start it and it will run by itself in the background quietly before returning a complete report of all the tasks it has done. More popular diagnostics software includes those from Symantec, TouchStone Software, TuneUp Utilities, or Network Associates software.

Sometimes, we do not really know all the useless junk that we keep in our computer until we do a thorough computer checkup ourselves. Not many people are aware of a part of your computer named the registry where both important and useless information are kept. Important information pertaining to the login users’ details and which applications are allowed to access the computer are all kept here. However, viruses or time may have caused the files to become corrupted and some even have gone missing. Furthermore, false entries are made into the registries slowing down the computer even more as it has to go around those false entries to get to the right ones. Clearing your registry can be done both manually and with the help of PC diagnostic applications.

One of the most troublesome but important tasks to do is to do disk de-fragmentation. This usually takes hours as our hard drives are so large. However, de-fragmentation is essential as it tidies up the data stored in your computer and arranges it in such a way whereby all the memory is utilized properly and efficiently.

It is not a must for you to have regular computer checkups especially since computers are machines and not living and have no need for such delicate care. However, if it is not properly maintained, the chances of it being spoilt is much greater and it usually costs more to buy an entire new computer set than to maintain the old one through regular checks. It is your choice, but for those who do not wish to burn their pockets, computer checks are the way to go.

Do You Really Need a Spyware Blocker?

Patrik K 2008-03-06
Title: Do You Really Need a Spyware Blocker?
A school student was working on a thesis about money laundering. Much of the information she needed came from searching true Google. After several months, she was having some problem. Every time she typed in the word money laundering in the Google search box, she was directed to all kind of strange places that was not related at all to the search term.

At first, she thought it was something wrong with either the internet system she were using or something with the search engine. But as time went by, she started to think about the possibilities about that maybe someone bugged her. She was right! Someone was actually bugging her and she solved the problem by downloading a spyware blocker.

This situation above is not isolated case. It happens a lot of people. There are two words to describe it: adware and spyware.

Description of adware and spyware:

Adware is a legitimate form of freeware. Similar to spyware, adwares are advertising materials which are packaged into a software or program and are installed automatically once that particular program or software is added into the computer system. Some forms of adware, on the other hand, download advertising contents as a particular application is being utilized. It is quite unfortunate that most of the adware programs take the form of spywares that is they track and report user information to program authors.

Spyware is software that creates pathways to your computer, which means that besides the computer owner (you) someone else can communicate with your computer.
Things a spyware can do to harm your computer is:

*record your keystrokes
*scan you hard drive
*search for cookies, web browser setting and much more of information you don’t want to share.

Spyware can understandably be used to spy on criminals because such use is beneficial to society but how about the use of spyware to intercept credit card details and the like?

So, what can we do to protect our self?
Well, there are programs that block spyware and all other software programs similar to it, like adware and malware. This can easily be done by availing adware and spyware blocker programs online. The role of these blocking programs include to remove or disable existing spyware programs or to avoid the installation of these malicious software programs on to your computer.

The difference between this kind or program and virus and worms, is that they can’t replicate them self as virus and worms can do. Still, they can be just as hassle. One of the biggest hassles they are causing is to slow down your computer a lot. This is usually the first sign of that your computer has been infected and the best thing you can do is to get yourself a blocker to stop and eliminate these treats.

The Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine - Does A Computer Really HelpYou Chose the Best Mattress?

Robin OBrien 2007-04-23
Title: The Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine - Does A Computer Really HelpYou Chose the Best Mattress?
Buying an expensive, top of the range mattress doesn't guarantee a good night's sleep. Companies like Serta, Simmons, Jamison and Kingsdown all make expensive, good quality mattresses and they all claim that their mattress will give you the best night's sleep. The problem is that these mattresses may be the best money can buy but they each have different qualities and each consumer buying a mattress has different needs. With its Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine, Kingsdown reckon they've got the answer to guarantee a perfect night's sleep.

If you want a good night's sleep you should sleep on a good quality mattress; cheap mattresses will never give you the support you need. There are quite a few manufacturers who produce top rated mattresses, using the finest materials and technology. Unfortunately, many consumers buy one of these expensive mattresses only to feel disappointed with the comfort and support of the mattress.

The problem is, that although these mattress are amongst the best you can buy, each manufacturers mattresses differ from their competitor's. And to make matters more confusing, each manufacturer usually produces many different types of mattresses in its product range.

A mattress that may be perfect for one person may be totally unsuitable for another. Therefore, even getting recommendations from friends and family isn't going to ensure you get the best mattress.

The traditional way of choosing a mattress was to go and lie down on it and judge for yourself if it gave the support and comfort you needed. But there are always problems with this method of choosing a mattress. First off, it is very time consuming. There are literally hundreds of top rated mattresses on the market; testing out each one is out of the question.

Even if you narrow your choice down to one brand of mattress, you may still have to 'try out' several different models. And the store you go and visit may not have all the models on offer, so you might miss on the model that would have been perfect for you.

But suppose the store does have all the mattress models for one particular manufacturer, choosing the perfect mattress is still not a done deal.

You're supposed to lie down on a mattress for at least ten minutes. You're supposed to try out the various positions you sleep in. You're also supposed to wear what approximates to what you usually wear in bed - not so easy if you wear next to nothing when you sleep!
You may have to spend an hour or two testing out all the different mattresses! Also, many people don't feel comfortable about lying down on a mattress in a busy store, with other customers looking at you.

If you don't feel comfortable on lying on a mattress in a store, you're not going to make the best decision about the comfort of the mattress.

Kingsdown has recognized the fact that testing out a mattress in a busy store, wearing day clothes affects the judgment made by the consumer - usually for the worst. Therefore when buying a Kingsdown mattress the company has developed a computer program to determine what the best mattress is for the customer.

Kingsdown has spent years compiling the sleep data of millions of people. The end result was the development of a computer system called the Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine.

But how does the system work? Each authorized distributor of Kingsdown mattress offers the Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine service. The test only takes two minutes: the customer just answers a few questions, lies down on the diagnostic bed, and lets the computer systems make its calculations. In a few minutes the customer has an easy to read printout that recommends the best Kingsdown mattress for their needs.

Of course not everyone is going to follow the recommendations of a computer. Some are still going to trust their own judgment and instincts when choosing a mattress. But if you feel uncomfortable lying down on dozens of mattresses in a store or simply haven't got the time, then the Dormo-Diagnostics Sleep Machine by Kingsdown may be the answer. The Dormo-Diagnostics system is just another option that is available to the consumer.

As stated above, there are many manufacturers of quality mattresses. They all offer the best materials and technology available but they are all different. What Kingsdown have attempted to do is to make choosing a Kingsdown mattress as simple as possible by applying computer technology; this service is unique among high end mattress manufacturers.

Ultrasound Is Powerful Treatment Not Just Pictures

Beth Reeves 2006-07-19
Title: Ultrasound Is Powerful Treatment Not Just Pictures
Most of the people associate ultrasound with pregnancy diagnostics. This may be a popular idea but ultrasound is being widely used in many other medical treatments and diagnostics like tumors, cancers, kidney stones and several others. It is interesting to note that ultrasound is not only used for medical applications but also in industrial field, as a weapon and as a disintegrating element. Ultrasound is a sound that has a frequency greater than the upper limit of human hearing. The frequency is approximately 20,000 hertz.

Medical Ultrasonography is one of the main applications of ultrasound. It is a diagnostic imaging technique that is used to visualize the internal organs. The size and structure of the organ is analyzed in order to understand the complications (if there are any) or determine the features and nature of the organs. Obstetric Sonography is widely used during pregnancy.

In the medical field ultrasound has some effective therapeutic applications. Treatment of benign and malignant tumors and other similar disorders is a very common feature. This is done through high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), or focused ultrasound surgery (FUS). The treatment for tumors is guided by MRI, as in magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound.

Ultrasound is used in various applications by varying its frequency and intensity. More powerful ultrasound is used to clean teeth (in dental department) or it is used to heat up biological tissues, hence researchers have devised an effective cure for cancers through ultrasound.

Focused ultrasound is widely used to break the stones that develop in the kidneys. This method eliminates any possibility of surgery. Cataract treatment is also possible through ultrasonic Phacoemulsification (generally less powerful waves are used).

Recently researchers have found various other applications of low-intensity ultrasound. It has been discovered that it has the ability to stimulate bone-growth and it is also capable of disrupting the blood-brain barrier for delivery of the drugs.

Besides that, ultrasound is used for industrial cleaning and for locating flaws in different materials. They are also used to disintegrate many micro-organisms like bacteria. Killing bacteria in sewage has become very easy. Ultrasound has been very useful in scaring away the rodents that destroy many food materials and other objects. Rodents have the capacity to listen high-frequency sounds also they can be bombarded with ultrasonic waves to get rid of them. Many nations have also developed ultrasound weapons that are fatal and capable of causing mass destruction.
