Every owner of an RV should keep the fresh water system sanitized. At a minimum, you should sanitize the system every spring when you take the RV out of storage and any time you notice an odor. It’s really quite simple to do. You can start by draining the water heater. Go to the outside compartment where the water heater is located. The drain plug, or petcock is located in the corner. Remove the plug and open the pressure relief valve on top of the water heater to assist in draining. CAUTION: NEVER drain the water heater when it’s hot or under pressure. You then need to locate the low point water line drains. It may take a while to find them, but they are there. There will be one for the hot and one for the cold water lines. This is the lowest point in the water system. Open these and let the water drain out. Next, find the drain for the fresh water holding tank and drain all of the water from it. At this point you can turn the water pump on for a moment to force any remaining water out. Do not let the pump continue to run once the water stops draining as it may be damaged. Close all of the drains. You have now drained most of the water from the RV's system. Take a quarter cup of household bleach for every fifteen gallons of water that your fresh water tank holds. Mix the bleach, with water, into a one-gallon container and pour it into the fresh water holding tank. Fill the fresh water tank almost completely full of water. Turn the water pump on, open all hot and cold faucets and run the water until you smell the bleach at each faucet. Close the faucets. If it’s possible drive the RV or pull the trailer so the water can move around to assist in cleaning the entire tank. Let it sit for at least 12 hours. Drain the entire system again and re-fill the fresh water tank with potable water. Open all of the faucets and run the water until you no longer smell any bleach. It may be necessary to repeat this process again to eliminate all signs of bleach from the water system. Once this is done it is safe to use your water system.

Title: Camper Vans - A Brief History
|
|
Hiring a camper van for a vacation is becoming an increasingly popular choice for those seeking new adventures. The lure of the open road and freedom to roam wherever you please is an appealing thought for many. Knowing a little about the history of the camper van can give you that sense of belonging whilst out on the road. A traditional camper van has a folding roof that pops up to provide room for the sleeping quarters. One of the favorite makes of camper vans has been that of VW. The VW camper van based on the VW Beetle, made its first appearance at the 1949 Geneva Motor Show and the basic design has held the test of time. The vans do around 25 miles to the gallon and offer plenty of internal space. The VW camper is a firm favorite with the surfing community. It has remained a popular choice for the young at heart for decades and has become a symbol of free spirit for many. Often seen with a new paint job featuring large flowers, these vans have long secured their iconic status and a place in history. Another of the iconic camper vans were those created by Wally Byam of the Airstream company. Airstream started off in 1936 with a trailer called "the Clipper". Using aircraft technology to reduce wind resistance and provide optimal strength to weight ratio, the Airstream has become a true American icon. The first Airstream branded motorhome called “the Classic” made its debut in 1979. The company continues to innovate and produce camper vans to this day and has a 10,000 strong international membership of the Wally Byam Caravan Club. Over 1000 rallies are held each year by the club. Camper vans have evolved into what we call motorhomes. As the name suggests, the objective is to create a "mobile home from home". Motorhomes come in all shapes and sizes and are generally classed by the distance between the front axle to the rear axle. This measurement is called the "wheelbase length" and is termed as short, medium and long. When hiring or even buying a motorhome you should try and arrange a test drive first so that you can decide which style best fits your needs. My personal preference is to use medium wheelbase vans as they tend to offer the best compromise between size and comfort. Whatever van you choose it's sure to be an adventure. Stephen Thomas is a developer and writer for a number of online travel websites, including the UK Away Travel Directory where you can find a comprehensive list of motorhome and camper van hire companies.

Title: What Is In Your Camping Water?
|
|
If you are a camper, you may already know that the water is probably unsafe to drink. Generally, campgrounds get their water from a well in the ground and you can bet, it's not filtered. But that doesn't mean you can't have safe water for cooking and drinking while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. A good portable water purifier is essential. The type of water purifier that uses Ultraviolet Treatment in the final stage of the process are highly recommended. When shopping around for a portable UV water filtration system, keep these things in mind. You want a system that uses pre-filtration to screen out large debris. Sediment filtration is also important to remove any unseen sand or dirt. Carbon filtration is also recommended, every molecule of water is forced through the microscopic pores of carbon, effectively straining out particle matter. These three stages of the water filtration lead to the final purification process, the Ultraviolet Treatment. After the carbon filter has cleansed the water, it is exposed to intense dosages of UV light. This exposure effectively destroys viruses, bacteria, fungi, algae and protozoa. A 12Volt DC Power Supply is needed. This type of system can be expensive but well worth the cost. A Portable Reverse Osmosis System is another good choice and less expensive than the UV system. The Reverse Osmosis type of system works in stages in much the same way as the UV system. A sediment filtration, a carbon filtration and in the last stage, water travels through 50 GDP TFC Reverse Osmosis Membrane, which removes lead, sodium, cyanide, ammonium, mercury, bromide, cadmium, trivalent chromium, magnesium, fluoride, nitrates, nitrites and many other water contaminants. This system is very easy to use, just hookup to a sink faucet. It is important not to overlook how important filtering the water is. Many people have gotten sick while camping and thought that food was to blame when actually it was the water they were cooking with and drinking.

Title: How Magnetic Water Filtration Systems Clean Your Water Heater
|
|
Magnetic water filtration has been around for some 35+ years, yet people still question its ability to purify water. Magnet filtration can be used for any type of filtration, but it is best used for water coolers, refrigerators and water heaters. The magnetic water filtration system is sold larger to handle the size of a water heater and cleanse the water appropriately. So how does this magnetic filtration method work you may be wondering. Regular water is made up of molecules all mixed together in no particular order. The magnetic water filtration system will polarize all of the water molecules and minerals causing them to attract to each other. Then, as the water flows through your water heater it will pass through the magnetic field. The result is the hard water minerals polarize and remain in liquid suspension. What this means is the magnetic filtration will eliminate any problem of the hard water molecules sticking to the water pipes and the walls of the water heater. This will help avoid mould and contaminants that can quickly result in hard water. So, by the minerals ending up suspended in the water all the prior existing minerals are attracted to the water magnetically. This period of the magnetic water filtration system will generally hold up anywhere between 2 to 6 months. Like all filtration systems, it is recommended that you do some continuous maintenance in order to keep your magnetic water filtration system running smoothly. Once every month you should drain two to three quarts from the lower tap on the heater. This will help empty any minerals floating in your water heater and rinse out any green stains to avoid any leaching inside your water heater. As far how the magnetic filtration handles other water supply, it can often improve the taste of water as well. Because the magnetic water filtration system causes de-gasification of water, the taste is often improved. This is because the de-gasification process is eliminating any kind of gases such as sulfur or chlorine that may make your water odor and taste bad. There is no question, despite the negative hype behind this filtration system, that the magnetic water filtration system can filter water in all situations. As mentioned, it is more known for and works better for bigger units such as the water heater. It has been found that just 3/8 inches of minerals in a water heater uses 48 percent more fuel to heat. As the minerals are removed, the water heating system is much more efficient.

Title: Treat Yourself To A Colon Cleanse And Feel The Difference
|
|
Your digestive system health, various intestinal topics and the concept of a colon cleanse are not your normal, everyday dinner club or water cooler conversation topics. But as people begin to accept more personal responsibility for their overall health, and as natural treatment alternatives become more popular, discussions about the benefits of a colon cleanse are becoming more acceptable. The colon refers to a six-foot long section of your large intestine. The colon's job is to absorb water from the liquefied food that the large intestine receives from the small intestine. It also works to disintegrate waste, which is then eliminated from the body. The colon clearly plays a critical role in our digestive system, so you can begin to understand why a colon cleanse can have such a large positive impact on our overall health. Our body is designed to function naturally for many, many decades. So why would something that seems so unnatural, like a colon cleanse, even be necessary in the first place? In case you hadn't noticed, many of us are eating foods that are not naturally good for us. A diet that includes meat, dairy and processed foods means that we are taking in far more fat, refined sugar and preservatives than we were naturally designed to process. Over time, a diet that includes the wrong foods will lead to a build-up of waste and bacteria on the walls of the colon. In an effort to protect itself from unhealthy foods, the colon produces mucus and sludge, which also accumulate on the colon's walls. This build-up of waste and other putrid elements is a fertile breeding ground for parasites and leads to the release of toxins into the bloodstream. A colon cleanse works to remove this toxic buildup and restores your colon to naturally good health. An accumulation of waste in your colon can possibly lead to serious side effects. Poor colon health has been linked to abdominal pain, bloating and the flu. More serious side effects include the growth of parasites, an increase in allergic reactions, declining cardiovascular health, and even the possibility of cancer. You should be aware of the wide array of symptoms that could indicate your need for a colon cleanse. Hemorrhoids, muscle pain and stiff joints, lethargy and fatigue, bloating and loss of appetite, headaches and even bad breath could all be warning signs of deteriorating colon health. If you've never experienced it before, you might be apprehensive about the prospect of a colon cleanse. You might find the whole subject so distasteful you'd rather ignore it completely. But if you ever try a colon cleanse and feel the difference it makes to your whole body, it will likely become a regular routine for you. The benefits of a colon cleanse include improvements in your skin and reductions in your allergies. Most people find that it's easier to lose weight after a colon cleanse because their digestive system is functioning more effectively. A colon cleanse will likely give a boost to your immune system by reducing the amount of toxins that your body is being forced to ward off. When your colon is functioning at its peak, it will improve your overall health After you complete a colon cleanse, it's a good idea to help your body maintain your colon's health as much as possible. You can help keep your colon clean by reducing processed foods and increasing fiber intake in your diet. You'll probably want to make a colon cleanse a regular part of your personal health care routine. How often you repeat it will depend on your body and your personal lifestyle. Most doctors suggest that you perform a colon cleanse about once a year. There are several different methods you can use to accomplish a colon cleanse. Sometimes you may be required to fast. Others may prescribe certain natural supplements to be taken together with certain foods. One average, a colon cleanse will take about one week But there's no question that regular colon cleansing will naturally make you feel better all over. The health improvements that you gain are well worth thinking the unthinkable and doing the distasteful. You will soon consider a colon cleanse to be a natural, healthy habit. But please don't tell me about it at the water cooler.

Title: How To Sanitize Your Water In An Emergency
|
|
Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink is a saying that most of us are familiar with and unfortunately for those of us who live in hurricane and tropical storm prone areas, there may be some real truth to it. The amount of water that is clean and sanitary to drink during these storms is very limited if you do not have enough water saved up in advance.
You need to keep plenty of clean bottled water on hand during hurricane season and doing this is not very difficult. Save milk jugs and store tap water in them.
Try to keep them in an area of your home that is high up, so you are sure that flood waters will not contaminate them. Keep around at least one gallon of water for each person staying with you during the storm for every day you expect the storm to last and then some. Running out of clean water is not something you want to do.
Boiling tap water is an option if you have electricity. If not, a small gas powered generator can do the trick if you are without power for a significant period and can really be a life saver.
Filter the water first through a cloth to get any sediment that may have gotten into the local water supply out before you let it set for a while. Put the clear water into a pot and boil for about ten minutes or so. This should give you clean water to drink or bathe in.
You should never drink water from your faucet during a hurricane or flood, because of the risk of the local water supply being contaminated with sea water or sewage. Flood water or sea water also cannot be boiled to the point of being safe to drink, since it may be contaminated with more biohazards and chemicals than boiling can get rid of.
A couple of drops of bleach in a gallon of water can also sanitize it, but you should not use scented bleach for this. Allow the water to set for about 30 minutes or longer before drinking it. Do not be alarmed about this idea, since bleach has been used in water supplies for years to sanitize the water that we drink.
Water purification tablets are also available for purchase at most outdoor or camping supply stores. These can be used in the place of heat or bleach in sanitizing water.

Title: General Hot Tub Maintenance
|
|
Keeping a spa or hot tub well maintained is essential to the health of everyone who uses it as well as to the proper running of the spa itself. Spa maintenance isn't difficult if you monitor the water, maintain water balance, sanitize, oxidize and clean the water filter.
Water balance is important for maintaining an ideal level of chemicals and alkalinity for everyone. Checking for calcium hardness, pH levels and total alkalinity are all aspects of maintaining a healthy water balance. Calcium hardness needs to be maintained between 100 to 200, total alkalinity should be between 125 to 150 and pH levels should be between 7.4 and 7.6.
The most important aspect of maintaining your spa is to make sure the water is clean and free of contaminants and prevent algae growth. To do this, you need to use a spa chemical called a 'sanitizer'. There are two main sanitizers; sodium dichlor (simply called dichlor) and bromine. Dichlor is chlorine-based, relatively inexpensive, does not leave residue in the spa and dissolves easily. Bromine is purchased as tablets, is odorless and stabilizes at a higher pH level than dichlor. You should monitor the sanitization level of your spa regularly by using test strips for either the bromine or chlorine sanitizers. Sensitization and pH levels should be checked daily.
Once a week you will need to give the water an oxidation shock. This will help to balance the water and give it a crystal clear appearance. Potassium monopersulfate is an oxidizing agent which is commonly used to re-establish water balance.
The water in some areas naturally has a high concentration of minerals and metals which can affect the spa itself and corrode equipment. It is necessary to use a sequestrian agent when this happens to clean your spa shell regularly. If a stain already exists then you can use the agent along with scrubbing to clean the spa shell.
Cloudy water can also be problem. It occurs when the pH level of the water is too high. This is easy to fix, however. You can simply add sodium bisulfate to lower the pH and reduce cloudiness. Alternatively, if your pH is too low, using sodium carbonate in your spa water will increase it.
If you maintain your spa regularly and still get foamy water, it is probably because the chemicals in your spa water combine with make-up, soap, perfumes, and deodorants from bodies. This is easy to overcome by simply using a no-foam agent to dissolve and remove foam.
Once a month, you will need to clean the filter cartridge using a cartridge cleaner. The water balance should also be checked every month by taking a water sample.
General spa maintenance isn't difficult if you follow these steps and pay attention to the condition of your spa water. If you monitor your water and sanitize it regularly, your spa will remain clean and safe for you and your family to enjoy.

Title: Why Proper Camper Tie Downs Are Essential If You Have A Camper That Attaches To Your Truck
|
|
If you have a camper that attaches to your truck it is essential that you use camper tie downs to keep your camper secure. Camper tie downs are an inexpensive way that you can protect your camper from sliding or grinding against your truck while you are traveling. The number one advantage to these tie downs is basically that they limit how far your camper is going to slide or move before it is caught. This will offer you the security you need to drive without worrying about what is happening to your camper. So buy some tie downs and stop thinking of the camper falling off during your next road trip.
One of the major brand names in camper tie downs is the Torklift camper tie down. This system offers four points for the tie down to work from. There is no belly and there is no crossbar, so these tie downs can really offer one of the tightest grips possible. You don't have to worry about the make or model of your vehicle when you go buy these tie downs because they are universal and will fit almost all trucks and campers.
Some of the other brands that produce camper tie downs include: Hijacker, Happijac, and Putco Push Up Tie Downs. These companies all pride themselves on offering the highest quality tie-downs that are currently available.
Some of the tie downs will offer a better aesthetic appearance, like having chrome on the anchors or a cool design on the belly. But in the end most of the tie downs are going to work just about the same, no matter how much you pay for them. So you might as well choose your tie down based on what extra features are best for your truck and your style.
If you own a camper it is extremely important that you get a set of tie downs to help secure your camper to your truck. Even campers that come equipped with basic ties could use some extra help in securing your extremely heavy camper to your truck.
If you are looking for a great deal on camper accessories the Internet is a good place to start your search. You can find out all the information you need to know before you buy, plus you will be able to easily compare different products to see which ones will work best for you. Just remember that cheaper is not always better, so take your time in comparing all the different camper tie downs that are available. After you have narrowed your search then you might even consider stopping into your local parts store and seeing what they recommend as the best available model.

Title: Why You Need A Camper Jack If You Own A Camper
|
|
A camper jack is the perfect addition to a pull camper. Anyone who has ever tried to load a camper onto a truck with a this type of jack can attest to its ability to simplify the whole situation.
Camping is a great way for families to spend some quality time together and because of high airplane ticket prices, more and more families are choosing to do more economical vacations like camping. Some families choose to camp using just tents and sleeping bags, while other families would rather drive their truck and pull a plush camper behind them. The more wealthy campers own large RVs that they use for their camping adventures.
The trouble with camping in a tent is that you are always exposing yourself to the elements. So if it is raining, you are likely going to get rain in your tent. Your clothes will get all wet and you could end up having a horrible trip. One advantage to this type of camping is that it is the most economical.
Camping with an RV and camping with a trailer are pretty similar, except that RVs are usually priced significantly higher than a pull camper. A downside to having a pull camper is that you are going to constantly be attaching and detaching the camper from your truck every time you stop to spend the night somewhere. That is where the camper jacks come into play.
With the help of a camper jack you will be able to simplify the process of connecting and disconnecting your camper from your truck. Most camper jacks can handle up to 1000 pounds, they contain bearings and gears that help to optimize the easy of use. These 1000 pound capacity jacks are considered the basic jacks that even the smallest of campers could use to help with transferring.
For larger jobs you can find twice the capacity in heavy duty camper jacks. These jacks hold up to 2000 pounds. This type of jack is best used for larger campers and for campers that need to be hoisted significantly off the ground in order to attach it to a truck.
Rieco Titan manufactures some of the top camper jacks including both the basic jack and the heavy duty jack. If you are in the market for a camper jack, make sure and take your time researching the jack. You can do your research online or by calling the local parts stores. After your research is complete you will have a better idea of how a camper jack works and who offers the best prices. The Internet is also a great source for purchasing your jacks.

Title: How to Sanitize your Water Filters Safetly
|
|
Some disinfectant in the market is suitable for the sanitization of water filtration reverse osmosis membranes and their associated distribution systems. But some disinfectants may not totally eliminate all vegetative microorgansims in the reverse osmosis RO membranes and their associated piping systems due to their construction and assembly, but can relied upon to reduce the number ofmicroorgansims to acceptable levels when used as directed. the possibility of recontamination by the incoimg water supply may also exist.
The RO manufacturuer should be consulted prior to the use of the disinfectant. It is necesary to determine the temperature and PH range accepatble for that particular membranes. Because of the variations in materials of construction at different facilities, some systems may have components of pumps, gasket, etc that are not compatible with long term exposure to this disinfectant solutions. This disinfectant solutions may be corrosive to copper, brass, iron, and certain other metals.
Because of the individuality of the RO water system in design and constructions, as well as the quality of raw water, all RO systems do not contain the same components. Dependent on the system, all or portions of the following procedure may be for sanitizing.
1. Biological or organic fouling of the membrane or other parts of the system should be removed with the appropriate cleaner. It is important to follow the membrane manufaturer's recommendation cleaning procedure. After cleanig, flsuh the sytem with RO permeate.
2. Mineral deposits should be removed with acidic cleaner prior to snaitization of the membrane. Again follow the membrane manufacturer's recommendation cleaning procedure. Then flush the unit with RO permeate. The presence of iron or other metals, in conjuction with hydrogen peroxide could cause membrane degration.
3. Prepare the disinfection according to the supplier's recommendations. Fill the entire water circuit to be sanitize with the diluted disinfectant and allow the diluted solution to reach a minimum temperature of 20degree. Need to be careful not to exceed the membrane recommended temperature.
4. Recirculate the system.
5. Rinse the RO system and check for residual chemical by following directions on the PH test strips. Rinse time will vary depending on the size of RO system.
Proper sanitizing our water RO filters ensure safe water for drinking.
