The organic cotton industry has make huge strides over the last few years, and many retailers are beginning to see the value of buying materials made with organic cotton, such as clothing, bedding and accessories. Still, most consumers do not know the difference between "organic" cotton and "regular" cotton. Therefore, they cannot justify paying more for one or the other. This article explains the difference in hopes that more people will opt for the organic alternative to mass-produced cotton. What is Organic Cotton? Organic cotton, like most "organic" crops, is grown using methods and materials that have a low environmental impact. The growing of this type of cotton usually focuses on two things: eco-sustainability and fair trade. Eco Sustainability The idea of sustainability is that the practices used in producing a product replenish natural materials at equal to or greater than the rate of depletion, and reduce the use of toxic fertilizers and pesticides to the point of being equal to or less than the rate that such materials bio-degrade or become harmless to the environment. In other words, the idea is that we can go on with such practices without "making things worse" than they already are. Fair Trade It is common practice in a capitalistic, powerful society like the United States for major corporations to use their buying power to reduce the price of goods, which they may or may not pass on to the consumer. The problem with this practice is that often these goods are already being obtained at the expense of third-world workers, who are providing them at an extremely low profit margin in the first place. It forces them to make a choice between working for near-slave-wages, or not working at all. Fair Trade Cotton and other fair trade products ensure that workers, regardless of which country they live in, are compensated at a fair, living wage. Because organic farming practices and fair trade purchasing decisions are more costly, a higher price tag usually ends up being passed on to the consumer. We, as consumers, must then ask ourselves whether it is worth the cost to buy organic cotton over "normal" cotton. Cost is More Than Just Monetary The cost of traditionally produced cotton may take a few cents less out of our pockets, but it costs us dearly in terms of the destruction of our environment and the exploitation of our brothers and sisters in the "third world". Whether you believe in karma, a just God or just the idea that your actions play a role in your happiness, there is also a high spiritual/mental payout to buying organically produced, fair trade cotton. Title: Go Green With Hip Eco-clothes
|
|
Designers, models and other representatives of the industry are jumping on the environmentally friendly bandwagon. All of the couture lines have raised the profile of the ecological crisis. Most designers have made a push to make fashionable garments and accessories out of recycled material. Perhaps you are thinking about the definition of "eco-friendly" as it relates to garments. In this context one is talking about garments crafted from natural and fair-trade textiles such as soy, organic cotton and bamboo. An advantage of the organic cotton is that one doesn't utilize bug killers in growing it. Regular cotton requires more bug killers than any other item we grow. One third of a pound of chemical substances go into the manufacturing of a simple polo shirt. The term fair-trade is applied to the situation in which workers are paid reasonable salaries for working on the garments that please us so. Ecologically positive clothes generally offer a greater degree of comfort. Organic textiles are gentle and feel good against the skin, not like those scratchy synthetics. More and more, trend-setting designers like Ryan Christensen of Portland are coming up with items that are harmless to our planet. Mr. Christensen is the man behind Sameunderneath which makes use of ecologically friendly textiles to create a variety of different items which are not damaging to the environment. Among the current styles are trim clothes fashioned from bamboo. The environmentally conscious shopper has more and more choices. There are even luxury lines available. Nau is a new designer that has an extended line of clothing. The company is run by executives that previously worked for several name brand companies, such as Nike or Adidas. The line uses fabrics made from natural fabrics like cotton and recycled materials, including soda bottles. There are also items made from a new synthetic material that is derived from corn. No one denies that there is so much more to come. Designers still don't have all the materials that they need to keep up with their less sustainable counterparts but with so many new ideas floating around, there's no doubt that this is an exciting industry to be in right now. People are starting to take note of where all the products that they buy are coming from and as consumers become more choosy, so will designers. Being eco-conscious and style-conscious will soon go hand and hand. You can get the latest discounts on women's clothes here: Women's Clothes. Title: Why Organic Cotton Sheets Make Better Sense For Your Family
|
|
SUMMARY: Everyday sheets can contain harmful chemicals that can attack your body while you are sleeping. The use of organic cotton sheets means not only protecting the skin and health of you and your family, but also providing more peace of mind. ARTICLE: What is the difference between organic cotton sheets and the sheets the average person has spread across their mattress? It’s not so much about protecting the environment (as the word “organic” typically seems to chide) as it is about protecting your own health. Sheets, blankets and pillows make contact with your body hopefully eight hours every night. Conventional mattresses, and your classic everyday sheets that you never think about, could have harmful chemicals in them. Most sheets are usually made from cotton and polyester. Cotton is one of the most poisonous materials around, considering how much pesticide is used in cotton production. The same pesticides that are sprayed onto cotton can be transferred to your bedding. When you lie down and sleep on regular cotton sheets, pesticide remnants can pass through your skin and affect your body. Polyester is made from petrochemicals, compounds obtained from petroleum or natural gas. Consistent exposure to these chemicals has been linked with cancer and a drop in male fertility. Many people feel that organic cotton sheets (and even pillowcases) are the solution to this unwholesome chemical problem. Knowledge is growing about the dangers of regular bedding, and organic cotton sheets is now becoming more widely available. Organic cotton sheets are made without the use of pesticides or other potentially harmful chemicals. It is produced worldwide in many different countries and locales. Organic cotton sheets look and feel just like regular bedding. The uncontaminated cotton is woven into sheets and might even feel more comfortable than regular sheets. Organic sheets don’t trap moisture, as do regular non-organic cotton and polyester sheets. These organic sheets are washable and dryable just like the more contaminated alternatives. It has been noted that some organic cotton sheets have more permanent wrinkles after washing and drying than the standard sheets do. Nevertheless, because of the risks that regular cotton and polyester carry, an organic cotton sheet with a few unsightly wrinkles may still be the better choice. These products are available all over the place, worldwide and online for total convenience. An organic cotton sheet or pillowcase might be more expensive than regular bedding. Sometimes though, good things in life—and non-hazardous things—are worth paying for. Buying organic bedding helps you rest more comfortably. Not only in physical comfort, but also in peace of mind. It’s certainly easier to get a good night’s sleep knowing there’s not any pesticide residue caressing you goodnight. Paget Wallace writes about organic products and material, such as organic cotton sheets, as well as other organic materials for the home, such as organic baby bedding and other organic bedding materials.

Title: Organic Cotton: An Environmentally Sound Choice for Many Reasons
|
|
Organic cotton products are becoming increasingly popular among environmentally conscious consumers. Goods ranging from clothing to bed linens to backpacks, totes, and other accessories are popping up in greater frequency as people become more aware of their existence. Even Wal-Mart has gotten into the business, announcing that its retail stores will begin carrying a line of organic cotton clothing soon. While some environmentalists are doubtful that the company, plagued by bad publicity because of its employee and procurement policies, is making a serious commitment to environmentalism, other green activists are hoping that this move signals both a positive trend in Wal-Mart's corporate philosophy and the opportunity to lower the cost of often pricey organic goods. The toxic load resulting from conventional cotton farming is especially extreme; According to Will Allen, the founder and director of California's Sustainable Cotton Project, 17.5 million pounds of pesticides "were applied to 1 million acres of cotton in 1995" (sustainablecotton.org). This toxic load has a high cost in terms of the environment, including the deaths of millions of birds and impact on the water supply used by both wildlife and humans. Farmers of organic cotton use many techniques to lessen or eliminate chemical fertilizers and highly toxic pesticides. Substituting mulch and manure for the chemical fertilizers, instituting crop rotation-alternating between grains, beans, and cotton-and adding beneficial insects to combat the destructive ones allow for sustainable cotton farming while eliminating toxins that leech out of the soil into streams, rivers and lakes. Cotton farmers worldwide are switching to organic practices; as more and more farmers come on board, and as large retailers like Wal-Mart increase their interest in selling organic goods, their availability will increase and the prices decrease - a good deal for the environment and the consumer.

Title: Organic Cotton - The Growing Trend

Introduction Organic cotton is a concept that is gradually gaining popularity in the modern times. People all over the world are becoming more and more aware of issues, such as global warming, pollution and environment protection. The concept of organic cotton has been largely accepted as a solution to these issues. Organic cotton is cotton that is grown purely on natural lines. The crop is grown using minimal pesticides and fertilizers, if any. Whatever little fertilizers and pesticides are used are natural, and are not harmful to environment. The tools and the various processes used by organic farmers are such that they do not cause any adverse effect on the environment. Technopak During the past few years, organic cotton market has become more global, with improved fiber quality, greater production and trade, more integrated supply chains and rapid growth in demand. The global organic cotton fiber supply has increased 392% since the 2000-01 harvest to 25,394 metric tones during the 2004-05 crop years. Gangotri Textiles Our opinion about organic cotton is that this concept will slowly and gradually get momentum and get increased awareness and acceptance in public. But it will take its own time. According to us, this should get second priority after organic vegetable and fruits or agricultural crop because those things are directly consumed by us and harmful pesticide and chemicals enter our body directly -whereas in clothes-these remain outside only and hence less harmful. We see that organic food has not made much progress in last 7 years and speed is very slow due to higher cost. If in case of food -this is so slow; what will happen to cloth one can imagine.

Title: Why You Should Choose Baby Clothes Made From Organic Cotton
|
|
If you are doing your best to raise a healthy baby then good for you! Babies are life's most precious gift and should be taken care of accordingly. That is why you should research the advantages of organic cotton for your baby's clothes instead of the conventional cotton. Read on to discover the major differences between conventional cotton and organic cotton. Conventional cotton is the one of the most pesticide laden crops in the world. Only coffee surpasses cotton in the amount of pesticides used. Conventional cotton farming involves the use of very heavy spraying of pesticides and herbicides, but it doesn't stop there. Once the cotton is turned into fabric, chlorine bleach is used to give it a clean white color. Then formaldehyde is applied as a finisher. Here is a scary statistic: Approximately 1/3 of a pound of chemicals is used to grow and produce just one t-shirt. So as you can see, conventional cotton is harmful to the environment and to the people that wear the clothing made from conventional cotton. The process of growing organic cotton is totally different. There are no chemicals used to grow organic cotton. The fields are fertilized naturally and the weeds are removed with hoes, tractors or by hand. Pests are controlled by the use of specific pest eating insects. Organic cotton crops have earned the label of organic by using soil that has been free of pesticides for three consecutive years. Organic cotton farming will use chili, garlic, tree tea oil and other natural substances in their farming process. Another great benefit of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton is that organically grown cotton has the ability to "breathe" a lot better. This will allow for moisture to evaporate. Baby clothing or bedding that has been manufactured with conventional cotton fabric will trap moisture next to baby's skin which can cause a rash. Many babies have sensitive skin so providing them with more breathable clothing is a simple and effective way for parents to minimize skin irritation. Clothing made from organic cotton will last much longer than clothing made from conventional cotton. The fibers of organic cotton are much stronger and thicker than the conventional cotton. Conventional cotton fibers have been weakened by the chemicals and bleaching process. Organic cotton baby clothes can be found in various baby boutiques across the country. As the popularity of organic clothing increases, organic baby clothes will become easier to find. But if you do not have a baby boutique in your area that sells clothes made from organic cotton, do a search online. You will be able to find a ton of places that sell organic baby clothes. Most parents want the best for their babies. The clothes we choose are part of that. If you are wanting the best for your baby, consider buying baby clothes made from organic cotton. You'll feel better knowing that you're not only doing the best for your baby but for the environment as well, all by making this one simple change.

Title: 3 Different Kinds of Organic Tshirts and What to Choose
|
|
It is not a secret now that the demand for organic cotton clothing is rising quickly. People are willing to buy more natural clothing to themselves to prevent from harmful chemicals that are used at several textile processes.
However, there are also some clever people who are trying to make more money on using this weakness of people. I mean how will you trust that the t-shirt you purchased is really organic? There are 3 common usages of organic cotton.
a) You use the normal/conventional cotton and claim that it was organic. If people believes you then you will make %30 more profit with the exact same garments. So please carefully check the labels of the clothing before you buy and also try to buy from big brands!
b) You get the organic cotton. Made the fabric from it and dye it like you do with the normal cotton. In the end you will have a harmful and chemical fabric which is not organic but “made from organic cotton“.
c) You get the organic cotton and dye it with dyestuff that is allowed by the organic certification companies and follow their guidelines. This is costly and the final fabric, t-shirt price will be higher but this is ofcourse healtier. In the end your organic fabric will not be harmful! In that case you can also say the term “organic t-shirt” easily.
Confusing right? Try to stay away from “made in India” and “made in China” organic cotton products for now. USA and Turkey is offering much better quality and trusted business at the moment. I will try to explain the details in my next article on fromorganic.com web site.

Title: Left Without Uzbek Cotton the Great Britain Resuscitates Colonialist’s Syndrome
|
|
London isn’t pleased with Tashkent learned to trade cotton independently
“Quid prodest?» ?n old Roman saying asking «who benefits?» rises an other question about origin of the critic on Uzbek cotton farmers.
One British firm suddenly assumed itself as penalty heavenly and has threatened Uzbek farmers not to buy their cotton. At the same time repeating the reasons and arguments of the former British ambassador - alcoholic and retrograde in one person, tries to judge the whole Uzbek nation. This is an attempt to teach the “careless» Uzbeks on how to live further and what way to go. Obviously, it seems more preferable they to follow the way of colonizer England.
With regard to those incongruous conjectures it would be pertinent to state some reflections and advise descendants of the British colonizers, whose “dandy ancestors» one and all extirpated settlements in India and South Africa, Bangladesh and Canada, to be engaged in own businesses than to teach somebody some sense.
Several years have passed since the first opening of the Tashkent cotton fair, where Uzbek cotton is being sold in two years futures contracts. Probably, the real prospect of emerging in the heart of Central Asia the competitor of the Liverpool cotton stock exchange makes the progenies of colonialists, pretending covering up with concern for the Uzbek ecology and the Uzbek children, try to accuse people of Uzbekistan of all mortal sins. It is clearly to realize some negative consequences for Liverpool if Uzbekistan stops to trade with its cotton at the British stock exchange.
First, Uzbekistan, being the fifth in the world cotton harvester and second its exporter, can deprive some the British cities and the firms, engaged in cotton speculations, of serious incomes which they received exclusively due to an existing irrational exchange cotton.
Second, to experience of Uzbeks on organization of the new form of the international cotton trade can follow and other countries. Then losses of the Liverpool stock exchange will increase multiply.
Third, rise of such tendencies and their transition to new kinds of raw material (plans of Russia to establish the oil stock exchange in St.-Petersburg, growth of financial appeal of the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, etc.) can result, that in the near future the significant part of financial flows will greatly bypass the British islands. Besides, if not in Uzbekistan, but in the Great Britain, change of a global climate makes more and more difficult and unpredicted the further development of agriculture and a city infrastructure.
On a current historical way of development of the modern human civilization we become witnesses of escalating misunderstanding and growth of the contradiction between the East and the West.
The Western world asserts, that it has found the only true and infallible «elixir» for making a decision on all universal problems, consisting of the open market economy, system of democratic elections, religious freedom, an equality of genders and other criteria.
The Muslim world categorically considers a western model not only «heretical» but also rather dangerous for the future of all of humanity.
As a result, the West and the East are more and more rolling down if not toward a precipice of political confrontation, then at least, towards a zone of cultural and civilization, and politico–psychological contradictions, expressed in mutual aversion of ethical standards each other.
One of forms of disagreement between the parties is a difference of approaches to the problem of the use of child labor. There is no doubt, that the use of child's labor in contempt of international norms must be stopped. But how to make a distinction between the abuse of child's labor and the help of children to the parents and members of the families?
Recently the moral and ethical standards of a society in the West have been seriously weakened and various parties of sexual minorities had been spreading more quickly. Moreover, a family has transformed from its «classic understanding». Therefore presently in the Western world there is the demographic problem connected with «zero» or even negative index of birth-rate.
Alongside with above mentioned, in the West different social rejections in activity of various religious, sectarian, human rights and other organizations become a «norm» for public for a long time. At normatively-legal level and by means of mechanisms of «double standards» they try to adjust «backwardness of way of life» of the others including the eastern people. But by doing this they are not troubling themselves trying to understand originality and historical realities of development of the concrete countries and their peoples.
In the Muslim east during several centuries concept «family» continued to base on such criteria as respect for seniors, respect for parents, devotion to the family and etc. It was expressed in mutual assistance, education of younger generation, rendering assistance to relatives, including on the household and economy.
This way of life of the Muslim east in the West perceive as archaism, which should be “straightened» through norms and criteria of the western way of life.
The rich don't know how the other half lives.
It is known, that in the majority the western societies belong to the rich or very rich states, so-called to « gold billion «. The level of income in countries is measured from 10 thousand dollars and more per capita. It is also to note, that in the West the average European at the time of his retirement receives the solid sum of capital from the government, and in this connection the question on the breadwinner on an old age of years is not so critical for him as, for example, in the eastern societies.
The states of the Muslim world, except for some oil monarchy of the Persian gulf, consists of from a number of developing or poor countries of the world. The governments of these countries, in comparison with European, cannot provide to their citizens solid pensions and the grants measured in thousand of dollars and euro. The population of these countries, basically, is rural.
With an intensive development of market attitudes, now in the East many families receive parcels of land, have farms, have opened the small firms and shops, develop the handicrafts. Although in reality the absence of work means there is no also a security of a life. And in general, in the East it is not accepted to indulge in vain hopes. So the customs and temper when the person even in old age used to work and be helpful both relatives ?nd part of a society with which he identifies himself. Exactly from that, how he and his family works, including even younger children, depend in many respects both their social status and respect in a society.
It is necessary to note, that at all times birth rate on village, where a natural requirement is always saved in hands, exceeded a birth-rate in town. In the East mainly cultivate cotton, and this work demands many efforts and large number of workers. The head of the family, the having allotment, often being the only source of the income, naturally enlists the children and close relatives to avoid costs on attraction of hired workers.
In this regard, the only hope and a support for an old age of years for inhabitants of villages in the East is the help from children and relatives. Blessing, as it is noted above, their families sustain solidarity, and relatives used to assist each other in any situation. Also in the countries of the East there are family units, which traditionally function having thousand-year history and being center of family-household and religious attitudes, ceremonies and holidays. The ancient consuetude of mutual help of the community, which always renders a necessary help to the needing members of society, is also saved.
The feasible contribution to development of a society is brought by younger generation. The children from the earliest age are taught to respect a labor and values of the community and environment where they live and coexist with. In the East the person since the childhood is brought up love to work, and in most cases elders enable him to expose his talents. Many children from their childhood determine the future profession, and sometimes go in the footsteps of parents, mainly handicraftsmen, and try successfully to realize themselves professionally.
However, some of western human rights organizations and NPO, such as IWPR, “Environmental Justice Foundation» (the UK) consider this as the forced use of child labor. Thus, these known « fighters for freedom of children « completely and impudently ignore the obvious facts of violence and compulsion of children in Europe and USA.
For example, last year in Holland party of pedophiles «Mercy, Freedom and Variety» got registration, which already has the right to take part in parliamentary elections of the Netherlands officially. One of the requirements which have been put forward by its leader Ad van den Berg, became «legalization of sex with children from 12 years; legalization of children's prostitution and a children's pornography, participation of children in the pornographic films etc.
A list of similar sort of «now-how» and «best practices» of the West in «not exploitation of child's labor» could be even longer.
At the end, I would like to make some conclusions. As a matter of fact, today we observe, how the western civilization tries to change not only own values, but also to impose the already gone bankrupt social reference points and model of behavior to the Muslim East. There is an attempt of creation of new false stereotypes, which logic sounds as follows:
Everything, that is not similar to our values is an incomprehensible, so, an alien, unnatural, wrong, hostile and a subject to eradication. The world should spread our values.
Some EU countries deliberately go on provocation the Muslim East, periodically publishing cartoons offensive for the most sacred feelings of one and a half billion Muslims of the world, followers of prophet Mohammed. This will not, definitely, finish well bringing the world to the beginning of «a hot phase» conflict of civilizations. Then, it could be too late to stop.
