At the dawn of time, there were two distinct types of people. Each of them was required and one was not more important than the other. The first group went out and gathered berries, fruits, nuts, and grains. for the tribe. The second group went out and hunted for meat. Both groups were crucial to the survival of society.

Yet, the skills needed to complete each task were different. Using sight and smell, taste, and touch, the gatherers went about searching for food that was there for the taking.

Once these gatherers learned to till the soil, they became farmers. No longer did they have to search for food. Then, they became tenders of the crops, assuring that there would be food for everyone, even when the hunters were unsuccessful.

Hunters were different. They had no patience for tending crops and so went off in search of the animals to kill. They used all their senses, especially those of sight, smell, and hearing. They were alert at all times and ready for action. If they weren't constantly searching and wary, they would lose the meal or maybe be eaten by it.

How does this apply to modern times? Well, we still need hunters and we need farmers. The farmers are the linear folks. They support everything that goes on in our day-to-day life. They're administrators and caretakers. ADD people are different. More like the hunters, we're constantly looking for the next new thing. Though we're quick and smart and are able to think on our feet, we aren't finishers. We're often people who create the systems.

We just aren't tenders. We might set up the systems, but without linear thinking people to maintain them, there would be no society. It's just vital that there are two types of people in the world. While people with attention deficit are labeled as such, it's only because most of today's society is based around jobs that require tending. But our ADD brains aren't built that way!

If you're in a linear job and are unhappy because of it, then find another job that suits your ADD brain. Not all jobs require that you sit still and follow instructions. Try something creative, like writing or artistry. Or become an entrepreneur, like I am. It's perfectly suited to people with ADD. I'm able to create projects and with the help of the linear people on my team, see them through. It works out great!

ADD people are also problem solvers. So, find a job like being an electrician or even a CSI detective. Decide what works with your personality and your ADD. Think about what you're excited about, and when your hyperfocus kicks in, decide what you were doing when that happened. Those are the areas where you should be looking for work.

Just forget the labels that society has place on us because ADD people aren't very good at routines. We're definitely every bit as important to the success of society as are linear-thinking people. If you have a linear job and aren't satisfied, then find another job that works better with your ADD. Life can be sweet, when you find the spot that makes it that way.

Are Your Salespeople Hunters or Farmers? The Secret of Hunters!

Joe Heller 2007-10-05
Title: Are Your Salespeople Hunters or Farmers? The Secret of Hunters!
I recently read a quote from the great salesman Sid Friedman who stated, "The harder I worked, the luckier I got." I have never met a top producer, a hunter who didn't have this statement as part of their sales DNA, while the farmers sit around, hoping to take orders and wonder how the hunters get so lucky. One word - Prospecting!

Where have all the sales gone? Is the preeminent question that reigns in the corporate sales world as well as with the professional rain-maker. Remember a time when we the phone would ring? Times were good; everyone was making money and in full swing of the longest running economic expansion in US history where even the average salesperson looked like a star. Poof! The worlds turned upside down with the collapse of the dotcom's and the spiraling fall from grace of Enron, Tyco and others.

Ok, so what does an economic collapse have to do with sales? I began surveying corporate sales chiefs, business owners and management committees of professional service firms wanting to understand what is the biggest challenge they face hitting their revenue goals. Most answered that their people had forgotten how to sell, or more to the point, they had forgotten how to prospect. They were no longer hunters of new business; they were farmers. Networking had become a social event were salespeople and professionals hung-out to congratulate themselves on landing the big account. Salespeople now commiserate at networking events, desperately clinging to the ill-fated paradigm of waiting for the customer to call.

The economic expansion of the last decade allowed many hunters to rest on their laurels. These old hunters became complacent and bad habits took over where good habits once dominated. These new habits made farmers of the modern day salesperson. Now, they wait for the phone to ring and when they don't hit their numbers they use the economy as an excuse. I've heard it all from, budgets are tight to non-existent and the customers don't have any money to buy our products. What's funny is that these are internal sales objections from the sales people we're paying to sell for us. Guess what, many of them haven't figured out a way to overcome their own objections. Isn't that what sales professionals do, overcome objections to discover the real needs of the prospect? They need to be a bit more introspective to discover the buying motives that will transform them from farmer to the all-capable hunter who understands that they must perform of starve.

Note: Begin measuring your prospecting success and compare yourself with the best! To understand where you stand, contact us and request “prospecting metrics” from Joe Heller.

I understand that it's tough out there and that mentally salespeople are expecting revenue shortfalls. This goes back to goal setting 101, what you believe will appear. Let's face it, the salesperson of 2003 are farmers, not hunters. I realize this comment will stir some emotions, but it's true. I've talk to hundreds of sales people who have rolled up their tent and blamed management for not doing the things necessary to help them in the tough times. However, there are a few shinning stars out there. I recently spoke to a sales person who grew his territory 1200% last year in a highly competitive industry segment, where the rest of the industry was down and others who have been able to win new business like him. What's their secret? The rollout of a new product? Extended product financing with a discounted interest rate? Giving the product away - FREE? NO! Their secret is not really a secret at all, they haven't bought into the thought of doom and gloom, they are hunters who've figured out a way to succeed.

I happened to walk into the office of an international company in a highly competitive industry to visit one of these top performers and noticed his associates sitting around and talking, I'm escorted back to Phil's [not his real name] office, and there he sat wrapping up a call. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the absence of pictures on the walls, he looks up and says, "yea it's kinda empty in here, I keep it that way to remind me that I am here to work. I do not want an office that's too comfortable." Once again, he reminds me, "I'm here to work". I smiled.

We had a great talk, one that I often hear from a 2%er, a hunter. I asked him about the call he just made and he told me that he was in the process of calling 300 executives that worked for PROSPECT Corp. I asked, how long will that take you? "I've planned about four or five days, he smiled and continues saying that he really wants to land this account". I smiled too, you see Phil is a National Accounts Manager, he is not some rookie dialing for dollars, he has the fire in his belly to sell, a hunter who realizes that if he doesn't hunt, he will starve. Phil is a dream for every sales manager on the planet, selling $750,000 in new business in 2002 when everyone else had mentally taken the year off.

Remember, the phone won't ring today or tomorrow. There is no one to blame but yourself if you fail to meet quota. Today to be successful in sales, you must dig down inside and rebuild the hunter mentality, the instinct for survival. Clients will not come to you, you as a sales professional must make the effort of dialing the phone or knocking on doors. In the challenge economy it's about the numbers, you've got to dig down deep inside.

I remember having diner with the great Tom Hopkins (internationally known speaker, sales trainer and author) a number of years ago, I had just been awarded "Salesperson of the Year" and I was feeling pretty invincible. During diner, Tom wrote something on a piece of paper and handed it to me, saying that the secret of all top performers is written on the paper. It simply read, GOYA. I glanced back at Tom with a puzzled look, and asked what did it mean? He smiled and said "Get Off You're A…" No matter how effective all of the other sales models are, all the marketing your company does, none will help you hit your revenue goals if you don't apply the GOYA model. By the way, I still have the note!

I realize this article was more of a rant than usual; however there is a point to be made. Keep the end in mind, and know your outcome. If you stay focused on outcomes, you will begin to understand what it will take to create the win. If that means going out learning a new skill or it could simply mean applying the GOYA model with a positive attitude. The decision is yours and only you have the secret to unlock your success in 2007!

One final note; in order to catapult your career and become a “hunter” you must become an avid student of lead generation and marketing strategy. Offensive Strategies in Bearball® Part 1: Mauling Hunters

Robert Bear 2007-09-20
Title: Offensive Strategies in Bearball® Part 1: Mauling Hunters
Mauling the Hunters in the sport of Bearball can be an effective strategy and may seem confusing. Therefore, I’d like to try and clarify some issues and attempt to more fully explain what it entails. Since this tactic has advantages and disadvantages, one needs to be intimate with the options and keep these in mind to determine when it should be employed. Hunters can be Mauled in more than one way, so read carefully. Familiarity with this information is also vital for coaches, players, and for passing the Ranger certification test.

First of all, the main objective of Mauling is to reduce the number of defensive players on the field and make it easier for scoring points by Ursa Minors (Um’s) of the Clan that is designated as the Bears, or offensive team of an inning. Mauling can only be performed by the Ursa Major (UM), the individual putting the ball (called a Stone in Bearball) into play after the Ranger has signaled to Hunt. In this procedure the UM’s can leave the Den after kicking, throwing, rolling, or dropping the ball outside the Den into play and enter the field. The UM then has four more possible functions. The first is to help teammates to score. A second ploy is to act as a decoy and avoid being Bagged. A third option for the UM is to get off the field in any direction as quickly as possible once they have accomplished their tasks and the Um’s are done scoring, are Bagged, or have declared Hibernation. The UM is also permitted to stay on the field as the lone Bear in the play area after the Um’s are inactive in order to Maul the defense. This should be done wisely, however, as the player could be Bagged.

The UM is not allowed to put the Stone out of the Den and then immediately pick it up. Before a UM can pick up the ball, using one or both hands, and throw it at a Hunter, a Hunter must have first touched the ball. Ursa Majors can only throw the Stone at a Hunter. They cannot Maul a Hunter by kicking, rolling, or bouncing the ball (Please note: this rule is modified for players who have physical limitations due to genetics or loss of upper limb function as the result of previous injuries.). On the other hand, the UM could be Bagged in any of these ways. The Mauled Hunters must leave the field in the most direct manner as possible and not obstruct further play.

A question asked here that is not explained clearly in the rule book is, “Can a Hunter be Mauled if the ball bounces off a UM when thrown by a Hunter and then strikes any Hunter before the ball touches the ground?” The answer is no. Remember, a Hunter can only be Mauled if the UM throws the ball.

Hunters are designated as Mauled if they attempt to catch or pick up the ball after the UM has handled the ball and they fumble it. If a Ranger considers the Stone to have been trapped, then they are not Mauled. Two Hunters can be Mauled on the same throw if the ball strikes both of them before hitting the ground. The UM can enter a Tree or Lake if it is not occupied by an Um or Drained. Additionally, while in this safety zone they can Maul Hunters and in turn not be Bagged. Please note, only two Hunters can be Mauled during each Stalk, or half inning.

I mentioned above that the UM has a second job on the field, help the Um’s to score. This is done a few different ways. The UM can hold the Stone or run with it until one or both of the Um’s score or signal Hibernation. The UM may retrain the Stone anywhere on the field or from inside a Tree or Lake, including the Den. The UM is then free to discard the Stone at this point and not try to do any Mauling.

Another thing the UM is allowed to do is serve as a decoy for the Hunters, trying to lure a Stone toss in their direction, giving more time for the Um’s to secure points or reach a safety area. Additionally, the UM may block the Hunters by acting as a post two steps ahead of the opposition. Although the UM may also sacrifice themselves to allow the Um to score a point, this is generally not recommended unless in doing so it would provide the winning score.

If both the Um’s have scored, been bagged, or signaled Hibernation, the UM may enter a Tree or Lake, if not drained or occupied by a UM and declare Hibernation. As a result, a Dead Stone occurs and play stops and the UM then returns to the Clan’s Cave.

There are disadvantages for the offense to keep in mind while using this plan. First of all, a UM can also be Bagged while on the field and not in a safety zone in any manner as outlined in the Bearball rule book. When a Hunter throws the Stone at a UM in attempting to bag the Bear and the UM fumbles the ball while trying to catch it, the UM will also be considered Bagged. However, if a Ranger considers the Stone to have been trapped on the ground, then it is not a Bagged Bear. Some players are not as coordinated as others to handle Mauling. Inadvertently, the UM may force themselves to be Bagged by stepping into a Tree or Lake while trying not to get hit with the ball when these safety areas are already occupied by an Um.

Coaches, players, and Rangers need to be familiar with Mauling. Using it appropriately could mean the difference between a Feast (victory) or Famine (loss) at the end of a Hunt. Obviously, some players are not as quick and agile mentally or physically as others, consequently, Mauling may not be prudent for all to attempt and should be practiced often to become skillful with its use.

This is one article in a planned four part offensive strategies series: Mauling Hunters, A Stone’s Throw Away, Exploiting Safety Zones, and Wild Bears. Watch for future articles and writings on Bearball Defense: Hunting Tactics.

How to be a more successful hunter

dennis theriault 2006-11-06
Title: How to be a more successful hunter
What I mean is to be above average when it comes to getting that game you are hunting. Some get deer every year. You can learn how to be like that. So let’s get you to be a better hunter.

First we have to find out what type of hunter you are. How serious of a hunter are you on a scale of 1 to 10. A hunter between 1 and 3 are hunters that get up in the morning look in the mirror and ask themselves should I go hunting today? On the scale 4 to 6 get up and go out hunting not knowing where to go, but do go out. Hunters 7 and 8 are hunters that know where they are going and have done a little scouting before the season opened. Now 9 to 10 hunters live for opening day. They have been in the woods many times over the last few months. Scouting and they know where they are going and most already know how big the trophy is. They have seen it several times already.

Now that we know what type of hunter you are how can we make you better? A couple places to start are by watching hunting shows on TV or hunting videos. I have found that hunting videos are a great place to learn from. First of all you can watch hunting videos any time you want. Some are better then others. Just get your hands on as many as you can. Buy them, borrow from friends or rent hunting videos. If you can just pick up one little tip it could make the difference between getting a trophy or not. Next go the extra mile and do more scouting. This is by far is the best way you can spend your time. The more you are in the woods the more you will learn. Talk to people that get there game every year. Ask them how they do it. Do not ask them where they hunt. You will have to find your own place. A good hunter almost never gives up their hunting spots. It takes years sometime to learn to be a great hunter. The saying goes the more you study the faster you learn.

Now you should have plenty to do. Get out there and enjoy the time you are in the woods. If you have children take them with you. It is great to do it together. Just being out there is better then sitting in the house watching TV. Unless you are watching a hunting videos or hunting show. Any day not working and in the woods is a great day. Enjoy the woods and good luck hunting. check out my site www.prohuntingvideos.com Dennis Theriault

Archery 3D Targets

Ted Lake 2006-04-11
Title: Archery 3D Targets

Archery 3D Targets

Hunting with a bow and arrow is far more challenging than with a firearm. A bow hunter needs greater skill, as they must get much closer to the targets than hunters with guns. For this reason, among many others, archery 3D targets are a great way to get practice for new hunters or those looking to become more skilled. Because archery 3D targets come in a variety of shapes, they can also be used by experienced hunters that are thinking of hunting new animals.

Many archery 3D targets are shaped to resemble animals traditionally hunted using a bow and arrow: deer, moose, bear, wild boar, even mountain lions. These animal shaped targets are especially useful because they train the archer how to hit their target accurately and in the zones most likely to achieve the kill. Because archers must get so close to kill, they often only have one shot at the animal. Becoming proficient in hitting 3D targets in the appropriate spots will increase a hunter's likelihood of successfully killing an animal when hunting. Most 3D archery targets are made with foam that allows the arrow to penetrate the target. Many more expensive brands will layer the foam, making it harder for the arrow to penetrate the target. This layering effect gives greater accuracy to the archer, because it more realistically simulates the force needed to penetrate fur, skin, and flesh. The layered nature of the foam also reduces the amount of friction created at impact, which causes less damage to the 3D target. However, when the target is used frequently, it will still become damaged. Because of this, many brands offer replaceable core parts. Some archery 3D targets even have a cutaway effect. This reveals the layers underneath the skin, making the archer capable of targeting very specific kill zones on the animal. Perfecting hitting these spots on a target will increase an archer's chances of hitting the most sensitive areas on an animal. If you have a safe place to practice at, archery 3D targets are available for sell at most outdoor and sporting goods stores. However, if you're not interested in owning your own target, there are archery ranges that allow you to practice on their 3D targets. Many of these ranges have hunting recreations that will simulate actual hunting by placing the 3D targets behind trees, on trails, and in other locations typically inhabited by the animals. Archery 3D targets are a perfect way for both novice and experienced bow hunters to perfect their sport. By offering a simulated target, they can vastly increase a hunter's chances of success.

Are Happy Hours Bar-Gains?

Knight Pierce Hirst 2008-05-04
Title: Are Happy Hours Bar-Gains?
Bargains come in all shapes and sizes. When I was in junior high, a boy gave me a going-steady ring, which I euphemistically called a friendship ring so my mother would let me wear it. Although the ring turned my finger green just about the time we were both ready to move on to greener pastures, Sam had definitely gotten more than he paid for because the ring still smelled like bubblegum.

The first time I ironed was as a newlywed; and John's highly-prized, custom-made shirts smelled scorched. I haven't ironed since. You get what you pay for when you pay three dollars for a marriage license. Obviously, three dollars wasn't enough to include ironing.

Ten dollars, however, is enough to pay for a bottle of fake Georgio perfume. Because the compliments ran the gamut from my mechanic to John boss's wife, there are times you get more than you paid for.

Then there are the times which are completely opposite - like when I realized my purse no longer had to serve as a suitcase. I no longer had to carry kids' diapers, toys and snacks. I decided to celebrate by buying a designer purse. Wrong. I quickly discovered designer purses have designer prices. I couldn't buy one. Every time I carried the purse, I would have felt like I was carrying a new couch for the living room.

When we have our taxes professionally done, we definitely get what we pay for - less stress. However, I don't think it's fair we have to wait until the following year to deduct the cost from our taxes. The accountant isn't willing to wait until the following year to get paid.

I admit it. I'm a bargain hunter; but according to John, I carry comparison shopping too far - like through the entire mall. Okay, but I'm not the only one. It's people like me who make big box stores big. If I pay less for something, I'm getting more than I paid for. I keep track of all the money I save on bargains and at the end of the year I spend the savings on something I don't have to save for.

Maybe I should save change for parking meters because sometimes I get what I didn't pay for. By not putting enough money in meters, I get parking tickets. Then what I get for thirty-eight dollars is out of trouble.

Advice for Hikers and Hunters

Marco Vargas 2008-03-13
Title: Advice for Hikers and Hunters
As brightly colored leaves dazzle the fall landscape, hikers and hunters nationwide will migrate to mountains, woods and fields, but many, unfortunately, are ill prepared for the beating their feet will take, warns the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).

"Hikers, hunters and others who love the outdoors often don't realize how strenuous it can be to withstand constant, vigorous walking on uneven terrain," said Michael Cosenza, DPM, AACFAS, a former Navy medical officer and now a foot and ankle surgeon based in Ukiah, Calif. An avid outdoorsman himself, Cosenza said lax physical conditioning and inappropriate footwear bring scores of outdoor enthusiasts into his office each fall for treatment of foot and ankle problems such as chronic heel pain, ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, fungal infections and severe blisters.

"Walking up and down steep hillsides and tramping through wet, slippery fields and wooded areas puts stress on the muscles and tendons in the feet and ankles, especially if you haven't conditioned properly before hitting the trail," said Cosenza. "Also, many don't realize that cross-training athletic shoes aren't the best choice for extended hiking and hunting. Had some of my patients worn sturdy, well constructed hiking boots, they wouldn't have suffered sprained ankles or strained Achilles tendons."

Cosenza advises hikers and hunters to make the investment in top-quality hiking boots. He said strong, well insulated and moisture-proof boots with steel or graphite shanks offer excellent ankle and foot support that helps lessen stress and muscle fatigue to reduce injury risk. "The supportive shank decreases strain on the arch by allowing the boot to distribute impact as the foot moves forward. So if a boot bends in the middle, don't buy it."

In wet and cold weather, wearing the right socks can help prevent blisters, fungal infections and frostbite. Cosenza recommends synthetic socks as the first layer to keep the feet dry and reduce blister-causing friction. For the second layer, wool socks add warmth, absorb moisture away from the skin, and help make the hiking boot more comfortable. "Wool lets moisture evaporate more readily than cotton, so fewer blisters develop," added Cosenza.
What happens if your feet or ankles hurt during a hike or hunt? Cosenza said pain usually occurs from overuse, even from just walking. "If you're not accustomed to walking on sloped or uneven ground, your legs and feet will get tired and cause muscles and tendons to ache," he explained. "To avoid a serious injury, such as a severe ankle sprain or an Achilles tendon rupture, rest for awhile if you start hurting."

According to the ACFAS consumer website, FootPhysicians.com, pain is a warning sign that something is wrong. "Serious injury risk escalates significantly if you continue hiking in pain," Cosenza said. He likened hiking to skiing in that beginners should take on less difficult trails until they become better conditioned and more confident.

Cosenza also recommends visiting a foot and ankle surgeon if there is persistent foot or ankle pain following a hiking or hunting outing. "I'm most concerned about ankle instability and strained Achilles tendons. Inattention to these problems at their early stages may lead to a serious injury that will keep you off the trails for a long time," Cosenza said.

Hikers and hunters seeking further information about ankle sprains, Achilles tendon injuries and other foot and ankle problems, or looking for a local foot and ankle surgeon, can visit FootPhysicians.com.

Duck Hunters vs City Folks

Craig Stanford 2007-09-17
Title: Duck Hunters vs City Folks
All of us are aware that the suburbs are growing while the central cores of most of our larger cities are dying. This growth of the suburbs means that land that was formerly available for wildlife and/or farming has disappeared at an alarming rate. We see the results of this growth all the time when people report bears, mountain lions, or coyotes in their yards. Another result of this growth has been increasing conflict between suburban residents and hunters in the town of Sherwood, Oregon. Sherwood is about 25 miles from downtown Portland, Oregon. It used to be a farming town, but now it's a bedroom suburb of Portland.

At the heart of the current conflict are city residents who live on the fringes of Sherwood and are saying that during duck hunting season (October through January) they hear shotgun blasts and find empty shells in their backyards. These urban residents are upset and want the duck hunting to stop. The farmer that owns the land that is being hunted on says that his family has been hunting on the land for generations and nobody is going to stop him.

To be fair, if people really are finding empty shotgun shells in their backyards, that is not right. If what the residents are saying is true, then hunters are litterbugs and are shooting at ducks from people's yards. Neither of which is too likely. What's more likely is that the residents are being extra protective of their kids, so they're exaggerating. If buckshot is falls anywhere in their neighborhoods, they're probably going to say that they're kids had a narrow escape.

Residents of Sherwood are looking to the state of Oregon and the county for help. The State of Oregon has been a pioneer when it comes to land use planning. Every municipality in the state has its own urban gowth boundary. All building must take place within this boundary.

The residents who are complaining have the boundary line running next to their yards. The area where the duck hunting is taking place is just outside of the city limits, so it is outside of this growth line, in the counly. County commissioners are frustrated by an Oregon law that mentions "hunting and fishing preserves". Unfortunately, when the lawmakers passed the hunting regulations, they forgot to mention what exactly makes up one of these "preserves". This leaves the commissioners unable to step in on the resident's behalf, when the state is so vague.

. As is often the case in a conflict such as this, it sounds like both sides may be exaggerating. Residents say that the farmer is running a hunting club. This would be illegal since the farmer doesn't have a business license. The farmer says that residents knew that duck hunting was taking place in the field when they bought their houses.

The curious thing is; for some reason, the farmer sold the land to the developer to start all this. Did he forget to tell the developer about the duck hunting? Are the city dwellers being extra protective of their children?

It is important not to forget that as hunters we have to be careful when hunting close to developed areas. This means not taking some shots, but remember, people will freak out if buckshot falls within 200yds of their kids.

The bottom line is that both sides are right and both sides are wrong, so it sounds like a compromise is in order. The conflict in Oregon is surely being played out in many other states, especially those with lax planning laws that allow suburbs to gobble up all the land they want. One of the county commissioners in Oregon summed up the situation in Sherwood best when he said," people need to be tolerant of other people's activities".

How To Make Money From Freebie Hunters

James Woolley 2007-05-15
Title: How To Make Money From Freebie Hunters

I regularly visit marketing forums, and one of the most common things people complain about is not being able to make enough profits from their list. They complain that the vast majority of their subscribers are simply freebie hunters, and have absolutely no intention of spending any money. So how can you make money from these freebie hunters?

Well this is a problem that affects a lot of online marketers. We're told that the money is in the list, which is absolutely true, but nevertheless it's important to remember that most people on your list will not be buyers, unless of course you've built up a list of previous customers.

If you think about it, this isn't surprising because most marketers build up their list in the first place by giving away a free report or mini-course just to get people onto their list, so straight away they are attracting freebie hunters to their list.

But even taking all this into consideration, all is not lost. It's still perfectly possible to generate cash from these subscribers, without persuading them to dig out their credit card.

One of the best ways of doing this is by offering free and valuable content, but not in the actual email itself. Instead you want to direct them to a page of your website or blog where this content can be found and strategically place pay-per-click ads, such as Google Adsense, around the content so you earn money every time a visitor clicks on one of these ads. After all your list provides a great way of directing traffic to your sites, so why take advantage of this opportunity.

This way even if you have a list of say 1000 subscribers, with most of them apparently freebie hunters, by directing them to monetized pages of your site you only need them to click on ads to earn you money, which I'm sure you'll agree is easier than getting these people to buy from you.

Another way of squeezing cash from a list of freebie seekers is by sending them to pay-per-lead companies. This can be very lucrative because a lot of companies will pay you generous commissions for each visitor you send who carries out a certain activity. This could be something as simple as filling out a form, signing up for a free newsletter, or downloading a free piece of software, all of which your typical freebie hunter will be more than happy to do.

So to conclude, although we would all ideally like a large email list of proven buyers that we can profit from, even a low quality list of freebie hunters can generate profits for you if you use some of the methods outlined in this article.

The Hurricane Hunters

Title: The Hurricane Hunters
Bruce Boyd

Have you ever heard of the hurricane hunters? I happened to see a show about them on TV a while back. They are a bunch of crazy guys who get into an airplane and *intentionally* fly into a full-blown hurricane. Now, I can't imagine there is any amount of money that could tempt someone into doing something like that. So, I have to assume that they do it for "fun". Think about it. Have you ever been on a commercial airliner flying through very rough weather? I'm talking about rough to the point where at least a couple of adults start sobbing audibly. Couples are holding hands across the aisles. The religious are praying closed eyed with folded hands. One such occasion is permanently etched on my mind. That kind of fear is beyond awful. So, why would someone *intentionally* fly into a storm that would make our worst nightmare of a storm look like a picnic? Well, they don't just fly into the storm, get knocked around and then fly out again. No, they fly into the "eye" of the hurricane.

Quick lesson on hurricanes: in case you didn't know already, hurricanes have an "eye" in the very center of their swirling wheel of destruction, and this hub is surprisingly calm! Clear blue sunny skies and absolutely breathlessly peaceful inside. You can fly in ANY direction from there and you won't find a peaceful spot for hundreds of miles, but in that nucleus of the the storm life is good; safe and secure, warm and sunny. And, it is fairly roomy even for an airplane. It seemed to me you could fly a plane around and around in there for as long as you wanted; as long as your fuel holds out anyway.

When I saw how they make their way post haste to the center and arrive at that peaceful heaven in the midst of hell, right then and there, I saw the attraction. I knew why they do it. That "eye" is the center of their universe. The supreme controlling point of the entire storm. You can't exactly see it with the naked eye, but they can see it with their radar and other fancy shmancy electronic equipment: they are at the center of it all and whichever way they "look" they can see it all. They know everything. They are safe and secure; completely still in the midst of god-awful turmoil. The folks on the ground have no clue what is going on other than what they saw on the news before the power went out. They don't know whether the storm is coming or going, getting worse or better. They might not be able think straight. They might even be in panic. Maybe their houses are being torn about, and all they know is that they are miserable, but the guys in the plane are good. They are like Sir Edmond Hillary sitting on the top of Mount Everest, looking at the world from above. Why do they do it? To me it is a question of vantage point, just like life in general.

What do we really crave most of all? The ultimate vantage point. The place where we can see how it all works, the secrets of the universe, and I think these mountain climbers and hurricane hunters are living a metaphor for the spiritual journey we are all on. When I was young I used to rock climb a lot in Colorado with a couple of entirely crazy daredevils, and we had a standard goofy reply whenever the inevitable onlooker asked why we did what we were doing: "It's kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. It feels so darned good when you're done." Same with the hurricane hunter: "It feels so darned good when you get to the eye". Same with the spiritual aspirant: "It feels so darned good when you reach the center", the supreme hub, the controlling point, the nucleus of the cosmological order.

How does one get to the center of the cosmos? Well, it stands to reason that one would first need to realize that he is on a journey, possess some sort of working system for understanding the nature of the journey, a "map" if you will, and finally a vehicle of some sort to transport him to the goal. Going back to the hurricane as a metaphor, the average Joe as I mentioned has a very limited understanding of his predicament, bracing and parrying, doing his best to survive for the moment. The idea of getting to the "eye" doesn't really occur to him. Similar is the plight of the average citizen of the cosmos; trying to stay out of trouble while still answering the call of his basic instincts and thereby remaining at the periphery of the "hurricane" with it's hidden beatific center. The point of getting to a hypothetical nucleus of his existence does not occur to him. He doesn't know that the cosmos is round and that it has a center which provides a vantage point from which he would be able to observe and completely understand the functioning of the entire universe; a place where he would be safe, peaceful, blissful. So he continues to flounder about aimlessly trying in vain to avoid pain and grasp pleasures through the accumulation of material objects, much like the man on the ground at the edge of the hurricane, hoping it will pass, then dreading the next one.

But one day when the time is right, maybe when he is fed up with his routine, along comes a savant who taps him on the head revealing the actual layout of his "hurricane", points the way to the "eye", gives him a suitable vehicle for the journey, a little nudge in the right direction and the journey begins. Does life get easier then? No, it probably gets worse; heading into the center of the storm, but if the aspirant is ready, that is OK. For now he understands his predicament, sees the goal and is headed in the right direction; a path that moments earlier he wasn't even aware of. Now he is moving steadily closer and closer to that supreme culminating point; the ultimate goal of life, and the day is sure to come when he will become ONE with that supreme "eye".
