Whatever one could say about Hills Rolling, the moniker of one-man band Trey McGriff, you can't accuse him of having shallow roots. On his myspace page he lists as influences about one hundred or so bands and musicians. There are old schoolers (Otis Redding, The Beatles, Pink Floyd), new schoolers ( The Killers, My Morning Jacket), tweeners (Nirvana, Dinosaur, Jr.) electro types (The Cure, Depeche Mode) and eclecticians like him (Beastie Boys, Beck). No doubt this is in part a smart-ass commentary on the "what are your influences" question. It is also a list of people he has most likely listened to and is another way of saying that all the music he has heard, or for that matter, everything he has been through, is recorded by the brain, swished around by time, and reflected in his songs. Loves, hates, sounds, tastes, it's all in your head. Musically and lyrically, this message comes through loud and clear on his CD Sweet Tea.

With all this in his musical blender, he has come up with a record that is like a meal with different foods, different flavors, and quite tasty. Sweet Tea is not an album with a theme or unified sound per say, but the strength of the songs and the individualism of his voice and musical palette steers the record clear of being a hodgepodge of stuff. He is not intellectually and intentionally going from style to style as if he's searching for an identity, or flailing about hoping to catch the listener's ear. The songs are well-crafted and come from his heart, making the music distinctly and honestly Hills Rolling. Not unlike a jazz artist who expresses his individual voice on an album by having a ballad, swing numbers, a blues and a song with a Latin flavor.

"Crazie" opens the record with a catchy bit of vintage hard rock that is the '08 answer to "Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo" by Rick Derringer. The macho stance of that song is replaced by the simple wonder of gettin' down with a beautiful girl that's made him so crazy that "I don't know what to do / I'm gettin' dizzy I'm shakin' in my shoes." The music works well with the song, alternating between hard bar chord guitar licks and trippy tremolo/vibrato-soaked guitar leads. His pop sensibility keeps everything tight, short and sweet like the tea. Hip hop drums open "Not Again", then the song gives way to the kind of acoustic/electric guitar-based rock that never goes out of style. Percussion and a home boy chorus give the song a party feel despite the grimness of the song's slice of life lyrics: "I just live day to day / barely keepin' my head above the water / Not again got all these feelings trapped inside me / Not again can't pay the bills I think I'm sinking your way . . . I'm so lonely / some day / we'll ride the waves into the sun."

This cut deftly combines a pleasant tune with grimness, humor, and hope all rolled into one. "Watching The Waves" is psychedelic rock by way of the Cure, with a beer soaked college kid trippin' on playing some simple guitar chords and having a moment with his friends. The harmonica captures the feeling of timeless, be-here-now grooviness that puts you right there on the beach, as McGriff chants "Standing in the ocean watching the waves roll by, roll by."

One of McGriff's other musical projects is in the mode of experimental electronica and is called SomeWhere OutHere. The song "Middle of Nowhere" hints in this direction. Starting with an electronic drum pulse and droning bass with a spacey guitar riff ala New Order, this piece is a soundtrack to doing . . . whatever. Weird sounds come in and out of focus as the interlocking licks and drum beat march on. Whereas these elements might seem abstract on another record, here the music maintains a grassroots, funky, down home feeling.

In her October 2007 article in the New Yorker, author Sasha Frere-Jones, the best music writer around I must add, wrote that, unlike rock from the 50's through the 80's, twenty-first century indie rock is totally devoid of the blues and soul, the root-feeding soil of so much great music. This leaves indie rock and its offshoots, in his words, "full of lassitude and monotony." No problem with that here. Hills Rolling McGriff is from Georgia or thereabouts, so the blues, soul and country are in his blood. Perhaps that is what helps blend the musical stew he's cookin' up on Sweet Tea. This CD is further proof that while commercial rock and pop are rotting and twisting in the wind, these are great days for music down here where just us folks are living.

Pursuing Social Security Claims with Rolling Hills Lawyers

Title: Pursuing Social Security Claims with Rolling Hills Lawyers

Rolling Hills is a city in Los Angeles County bordered by the Rolling Hills Estates to the north and Rancho Palos Verdes on all other sides. As of the recent census, the city population was 1,871. It is the 21st richest place in the United States and fourth for places with a population of at least 1,000.

It is a private, gated city atop the scenic hills of Palos Verdes. Incorporated in 1957, it maintains a ranch character with an enduring respect for the natural surroundings, with no traffic lights, large spaces between houses and wide equestrian paths along streets.

In a rich city like Rolling Hills, Social Security problems will surely arise. When they do, Rolling Hills Social Security lawyers are just standing by to help you with the complex and often frustrating procedure of applying for and obtaining Social Security benefits.

Claims under Social Security may be pursued with or without a representative. However, when filed with a representative, preferably a lawyer, the claimants will definitely have a higher percentage of winning their claims rather than in pursuing it alone.

This is because upon application necessary paper works must be submitted - and if it does not convince the Social Security Administration then the claim will be denied at the onset.

So if you doubt the weight and believability of your paper work for your social security claim take some advice and look for qualified assistance right away.

Denial at the Initial Stage does not deter you from further enforcing your claim. You may file a request for reconsideration. Denial of the request may be expected at this stage. In fact, 80% to 85% of claims for reconsideration are denied.

Denial of the request for reconsideration does not put an end to your claim. You can ask that your case be heard by a Judge. Again, this may be done with or without a representative.

Then again, it is better to go to court with a representative as to do without will expose you from further partiality.

For example, the judge, upon seeing you alone and without any knowledge of court procedure, will not be hesitant to deny your claim.

Undeniably, the role of a Rolling Hills Social Security lawyer in your claim is necessary not only to facilitate a faster claim but also to guide you in navigating through the intricate legal process.

However, this should not be understood to mean that the assistance of a lawyer would surely bring positive results on your claim. Of course, Social Security lawyers are not insurers of your claim’s approval. There are times that even when assisted by a lawyer denial may still result.

Engaging the services of a lawyer in your social security case can surely spell a difference between approval and disapproval of claim for benefits. You will for sure put a good fight when you appear prepared before the administration or judge.

With this in mind, determining the issue of representation and the representative to handle your social security case is not simple task. You must think several times before filing your claim unprepared or unrepresented.

Tuscan Kitchens - Design Tips and Tricks

Shelly Whitney 2006-08-15
Title: Tuscan Kitchens - Design Tips and Tricks
Tuscany emotes visions of the Italian countryside replete with gently rolling hills of a splendid and unspoiled countryside - including cypress, oak and olive trees. Stone houses with clay tile roofs - and inside those homes, an inviting, comfortable and cozy place to be and live.

This is why so many North Americans are looking for some Tuscan styling in their own homes. Who wouldn't want to look out a kitchen window and see rolling hills of countryside? Well, maybe we can't get those rolling hills but, we can achieve some of the Tuscan look inside our homes. Today, I will be focusing on Tuscan Kitchens.

Tuscan style is Italy's version of country - Italian Country. I suppose we have our own country style in North America but, it is more likely to include ducks, flowered wallpaper or borders, wreaths and pine furniture which are usually new and they all match. Tuscan style or Italian country is an adlib, 'au naturel' style - a style you must be able to accept if you want to adopt this style in your home.

Furniture does not need to match and it should be old or worn. Elements of the kitchen should be very natural - stone floors, wood furniture, brick or marble fireplaces, clay tile countertops and backsplash, plaster walls and solid wood beamed ceilings - just a few of the elements you might find in a Tuscan kitchen. It all makes for a natural and comfortable environment - as if everything was meant to be there - and the materials were taken straight from the countryside.

Now if you are lucky enough to have stone walls, GREAT! However, this is something most of us will not be able to achieve naturally. There are ways to achieve this look. You can buy faux stone products, which install similar to half brick walls (which are a lesser expensive alternative to full brick walls). An even less expensive method, not to mention easily changeable (something I always like to implement in my designs), is painting faux stone or marble walls.

A faux stone block wall can be done in different configurations, shapes and colours for a personalized stone look. In my previous house, I faux painted stone blocks in my front hallway and around the archways. There wasn't a person who came into my house who didn't say, "WOW, look at the walls" and of course, they had to touch them to see if they were real.

Plaster walls are also found extensively in Tuscan homes - usually in a creamy/grayish white colour. Venetian plaster can be purchased just about anywhere these days and is easy to apply.

In a Tuscan kitchen, there is a lot of wood - stained on the darker side. Not only is there a lot of wood but, none of needs to match. An armoire can be different than the shutters, which can be different than the wood cabinets, which again can be different than the table. I love it!

Here's a time when you can take advantage of your mismatched pieces. Maybe you have an armoire in your bedroom that you could use? Maybe you have some old chairs in your attic or barn? Maybe your mother has an old farmhouse wooden table that is now too big for her and is looking for a new home? If you have always loved the Tuscan theme, I am betting that you have some pieces tucked away that would work well.

A wooden farmhouse table is a must. By the way, a farmhouse table is an old solid wood rectangular table with legs on the outer corners. Chairs are also wood with rush seats - a great choice for this 'au naturel' Tuscan kitchen.

In order to get a true Tuscan kitchen look, cabinets will be unfitted. Unfitted means not wall-to-wall cabinets of the same sort. Think of your kitchen cabinets/storage as clothing separates - you can buy furniture pieces to mix and match, and perhaps even move them around when you feel like it.

Tuscan kitchens work well when they include a wrought iron chandelier or light fixture.

Flooring is also 'au naturel' as well - being either stone or tile. Choose a natural flooring material such as marble, clay tile, slate or stone.

A more luxurious Tuscan kitchen might include a copper range hood - hammered copper would be wonderful.

Other accessories to add are glass jars filled with pasta, decorative containers of olives and olive oil. And last but not least, to finish the look, a bowl of grapes on the table - fresh from the vineyard.

Sit back, relax, invite a few friends over and enjoy your new Tuscan kitchen!

Beverly Hills Real Estate

Title: Beverly Hills Real Estate
The city of Beverly Hills is a popular city in California. Spanning approximately 15 square kilometers, Beverly Hills is surrounded by the city of Los Angeles on all sides. Together with Holmby Hills and Bel-Air, Beverly Hills is part of what is known as the “Platinum Triangle”, a group of affluent neighborhoods in the state of California. Beverly Hills achieved its present popularity and reputation through various television shows and movies, including Beverly Hills 90210, Beverly Hills Cop and even the cartoon show Totally Spies.

The image of Beverly Hills as the ultimate shopping paradise is supported by several shopping streets in the city, such as Rodeo Drive and Beverly Drive. Expensive shops are found all over the road, catering to high-end shoppers the world over. At present, construction to add parking spaces and expand the sidewalks in these shopping areas has just finished. Other popular shopping locations in the Beverly Hills area are Barneys New York, Two Rodeo and Faconnable, which can all be found in Wilshire Boulevard.

The city of Beverly Hills has several schools serving it, both public and private. The Beverly Hills Unified School District serves the area. Points of interest in the Beverly Hills area include the Beverly Gardens Park, the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Electric Fountain, Via Rodeo, the Spanish Steps, the Museum of Radio and Television in Beverly Drive, and the Greystone Mansion and Greystone Park in Loma Vista Drive.

Beverly Hills is not merely a shopping mecca; dining in the Beverly Hills area is also popular. Restaurants, such as Café Rodeo on Rodeo Drive, Cut in Wilshire Boulevard, Jaan in Burton Way, and La Dolce Vita in Santa Monica Boulevard, are among the best places to eat in all of Beverly Hills. Other recommended places include Mastro’s, the Grill on the Alley, The Prime Grill, Mr. Chow, and Spago, to name a few.

Actually, most of the houses in Beverly Hills are found in the flatlands at the south of Sunset Boulevard. North of Sunset Boulevard are the hills, where the homes have a significantly higher value than those in the rest of the city.

The use of Beverly Hills in various television shows and movies has helped it form an image of opulence and wealth. In reality, however, only about 10% of all the homes in Beverly Hills are luxury homes. Majority of the real estate in the area include duplex units for rent and smaller homes. The real estate prices in Beverly Hills are quite high, and are actually one of the most expensive real estate rates all over the United States.

Upon review of the city’s demographics, Beverly Hills was actually noted to have more renters than homeowners. The high prices of luxury homes seem to be pushing more residents to rent their homes, instead of buying their own. Thus, Beverly Hills apartments and condominiums appear to be good investments at present.

If you’re looking for a fashionable place in the middle of California, look no further! Try real estate in Beverly Hills!

The Beauty Of Hills

Curt Shryack 2007-06-13
Title: The Beauty Of Hills
I just love the results that hills give to my running. No other workout gives more to my running than hills. Want to run fast, run some hills. Want to increase your leg strength, run hills. Want to work on your running mechanics, run hills. Want to increase your mental toughness, run some hills. Want to get in shape fast, run some hills.

Every time that I stop running hills for an extended period of time I start to run slower. I’m not sure why I always stop. Probably the pain that I feel when I run hills hard. The shear agony that running up a half mile long hill at 5k effort can bring, is this why?

When I am running my best it has always happened after running hills once a week for a couple of months. The increased leg strength that I develop and my increase in lung capacity are just a few of the reasons for running so well.

Our running club meets once a week to run a course that is called ball busters. This is a 7 mile course of 12 hills that increase in difficulty. Each hill has a different grade and length. And at the top of each hill there is a flat section leading to the next hill.

I can run many different types of hill workouts on this one course. One time I will concentrate on running the uphill sections hard. The next time I might run the hills and flat section hard. Or another week I can run the whole course as fast as I can. There are so many ways to run this course that I shouldn’t become bored with hills.

What can a person do that lives in an area were hills are not available? Options can include running stairs, hill workouts on treadmills, stadium bleachers. I have heard of runners using beach areas.

Treadmills are an excellent way to run hills. A common injury caused by hills is running back down. Using a treadmill you can correct this problem. After running the hill reducing the incline back to zero during your rest period. By not running downhill the landing shock reduced.

Treadmills can simulate most any hill. The length or speed running up the hill can be varied to meet your needs. A good treadmill hill workout could be ¼ mile uphill repeats with a ¼ mile jog. Choose a speed that might seem a little slow at first. As the incline increases the intensity will also increase.

The Community of Inverness

Ken Charnly 2006-04-26
Title: The Community of Inverness
In the 1920s, Arthur T. McIntosh, a developer from Scotland traveling in the U.S., passed through the North West corner of Cook County in Illinois. During the course of his travels, he paused briefly to look at the area’s wooded and rolling hills.

Although McIntosh had made his journey to the U.S. with the intention of helping his family to find a place to which they could all retreat, still the rolling hills of the area captivated the developer. They reminded him of the hills around Inverness, Scotland. McIntosh suddenly felt compelled to develop this area north of Chicago.

McIntosh had no trouble coming up with a name for his vision of a development. He called it Inverness. By 1926, McIntosh had purchased the first of 11 farms in that area. Those were the farms that McIntosh would gradually divide-up and develop. Then McIntosh worked with Way Thompson to create a development that typified the traditional New England setting. The pair made roads that wound around the Inverness hills. They took several steps in order to insure that only a limited number of those roads actually led into or out of the Village of Inverness. Hence they
guided the builders of the development toward the creation of a very private region, an area with only limited vehicle traffic.

When McIntosh divided up the land on those rolling hills, putting on the market some lots for future land owners, he chose to have every lot cover an acre or more of the old farmland. He also established some simple but firm rules. One of those rules, called the no fence policy, prohibited the building of a fence or wall between two different lots. McIntosh also forbade the building of curbs and the installation of streetlights. He did lend his assistance to the planting of trees. Many of the trees he planted in Inverness were Norway pine.

Because McIntosh asked such a high price for the homes in his development ($9,000 to $20,000), only the wealthy moved into the development of Inverness. The high home prices also forced the residents of Inverness to remain content with minimal diversity among the faces of the population. Thus, this village became a place of escape for the wealthiest and for those with the most cultural influence. The community around Inverness, a suburb of Chicago, soon echoed the exclusivity found in the Red Line, a wealthy suburb of Philadelphia.

Inverness became incorporated in 1962, although it has never had an industry that served as a source of income. The private county club in Inverness has served as the Village’s only economic base. Although most every resident of Inverness is familiar with affluence, the Village itself has become dependent on assistance from neighboring towns. The schools of Palatine educate the children of Inverness. The fire departments of both Palatine and Barrington respond to calls from
residents in Inverness. And Inverness shares its Police Department with the residents of Barrington.

Inverness became a region of Chicago land that contrasted sharply with the diversity and the modesty of the town to the north east, the town that included the American Baha’i Temple. The gentleman who laid the cornerstone for that Temple held values that differed greatly from those
of most residents of Inverness.
