Running out of face painting ideas and need to spice things up a little? I know how hard it can be to come up with new face painting ideas when you’ve got ‘painters block’ so hopefully these 5 ideas will help you out at your next face painting gig or party.

1. Glitter:

Glitter can add a whole new dimension to your face painting is a great face painting idea! It can also transform your face paintings for amateur to professional! They can be pretty cheap if you know where to buy them and it’s very easy to apply! They work especially well with ‘princess’ and ‘fantasy’ designs and kids love them! As with face paint, you need to remember to only use glitter and stick on jewels that are safe to put on a persons skin (eg. body glitter) Do NOT use aluminum glitter – polyester only. Aluminum glitter can hurt the eyes and skin.

There are different types of glitter – Glitter Gel, Glitter (Iridescent) Powders and Glitter Dust. I suggest you try them all out and see which one works best for you.

2. Stick - On - Jewels:

Stick on jewels can also add a whole new dimension to your face painting, transforming your face paintings for amateur to pro. And they’re so easy to use even kids can use this face painting idea. Simply peel off the back of the jewel and stick the ‘sticky’ part of the jewel directly onto the skin or onto the paint that’s on the skin. That’s it! Also you can get plastic jewels that need to be stuck on with a little dab of paint.

3. Combining Makeup with Face Painting:

Combining cosmetic makeup with face painting is one of the many great face painting ideas if done right and it can save you time!

For example Blush can be used to make rosy cheeks on a bunny rabbit instead using pink face paint. Blush is creates a softer color and is quick to apply.Eye Liner Pencil can be used to outline the eyes or any part of a design.

For beginners it’s much quicker and easier than using a brush. Eye Shadow can also be used and perhaps blended with paint on the face. It’s up to you!

Experiment with these different mediums and find out what’s right for you, what you like to use and what you think looks most effective!

4. Body Painting to Match the Face Painting:

Kids love this idea, trust me – I’ve tried it many a time, it makes them feel like they have a costume on and really lets them have fun with the character they’ve been painted whether it be a princess or vampire! Although this might sound like it’s complicated and will take up heaps of time – it won’t. As long as you keep them simple.

For example if you’re painted a pretty pink princess face design, why not complement it with a pretty pink bracelet. All you do is take some pink paint, and paint with a brush, a line around the wrist. It’s that simple, just use your imagination!

5. Costumes and Face Painting:

Costumes and face painting, its fun no matter what age you are! And it can be quite easy too, the costumes don’t have to be over the top. Try a pair of bunny ears to go with a bunny design, or a tiara to go with a princess. How about a black cape to go with a vampire design or a stocking filled with newspaper, pinned on the end of your t-shirt to look like a tale to match a tiger design?

The ideas are endless, just get a little creative, use your imagination and most importantly, have fun with your face painting ideas!

Halloween Face Painting Ideas

Title: Halloween Face Painting Ideas
With Halloween just around the corner it’s time to start planning for costumes and makeup. Halloween is the perfect holiday for face painting. A good costume doesn’t end with just the clothes and accessories. A painted face can make a true statement and define your look. Especially now that Halloween masks are prohibited at most all school functions, dances, and parties, face painting is a more comfortable, inexpensive way to finish your ensemble. There are minimal tools needed to get started and the quality of face paints have come along way for a safe, comfortable and long lasting wear.

The basic tools are face paints, 3 to 4 brushes and some sponges. From a ghost, butterfly, clown, vampire, or pumpkin there are plenty of Halloween Face Painting Ideas and that can give you step by step directions on how to paint on a disguise. Once you have decided what you are going to be for Halloween there will be plenty of ideas for a unique look. There are plain colored face paints, ones that contain glitter for a sparkle effect, and some have pearlescent effects added to them or even some ultra-violet light reflecting paints. You may also choose to add embellishment like stick on gemstones for an extra special sparkle design, a piece of painted puffed rice for a wart, or even temporary tattoos.

The options are limitless. I suggest starting with a basic concept, having a drawn out example or sketch and then use your imagination and creativity to make it your own. There are also face stencils if you don’t have a knack for drawing. There are many different techniques for blending, shading, feathering and many more. So I suggest starting with an easy how-to guide and in no time you will be a pro. Make this Halloween memorable and paint away. Ideas for Face Painting - What Are You Waiting For?

Timothy Croy 2007-09-10
Title: Ideas for Face Painting - What Are You Waiting For?
Face painting is fun activity that anyone can learn. Whether for use at Halloween for a costume or as a childs activity, everyone can have fun! My interest in face painting began when I took my children to a local art fair at the park. One of the most popular booths was offering face painting. As we stood in the long line all the children were discussing what THEY were going to choose to have painted on their face. They each would happily announced to the painter what they wanted painted on their face. I saw butterflies, hearts, balloons, animals, sports themes, spiders and tons more. The options were limitless. So I bought some paints, practiced on my children and at my daughters birthday party I painted faces. It was a huge hit! You don't have to be an artist to paint faces and there are many guides and basic rules to follow to be successful.

Materials You Will Need To Get Started

You can't get just any paint that you find at your local craft store. You will need a paint made especially for face painting in order to get desired results. There are many inexpensive options available that have been tested for safety and that comply with European and American regulations. You can purchase face paint colours individually or in variety packs. To begin I suggest getting a variety pack of not more than 6 colors. Once you get used to them and see how they apply and mix then you may want to order additional colours and application tools.

Which brings me to the next subject.

You will need a variety of a few different types of brushes and some sponges. Brushes come in many different shapes, sizes and materials. So which ones will you need? It is best to get sythetic brushes that are soft for young skin and sensitive faces. I suggest a fine tip brush for small detail, a medium size pointed brush for bigger strokes, and a large brush for covering larger areas. These should be sufficient to get you started. Because most face paints are water based they are easy to apply and easy to wash or wipe off between applications of different colours. Ordorless baby wipes are an efficient and quick way to clean brushes between applications. As for the sponges, there are many types made specifically for face painting. I usually cut mine in half for two reasons. First, to get more for my money and also to straight edges that are usefull in painting clean lines if the design calls for it. The sponge is particuliarly good at covering the face to acheive a base colour. For example if you are making a ghost face for Halloween you can use the sponge to cover the face with white paint. If you dampen the sponge first with water it will give you a thinner base or an irredescent look, changing the shading and intensity.

Now that you know the basics. Order your supplies and then go wild. Use your imagination and creativity to make one of a kind designs. Both you and your children will have hours of fun! More ideas for face painting can be found on Lindsy's personal blog.

Lisa Carnevale 2007-08-21
Title: How-to’s for Children’s Birthday Party Face Painting Design Ideas
Most kids like the current movie, television show, the latest toy or cartoon character. All of these can be your resource for inspiration to create new kids face painting designs. These designs are easy to learn and you can practice a few times with some low cost face paint so that you are not using your high quality face paint. Feel free to practice on one of your own kids or on a model. Once you have the design looking like the character, then start to add some variations to the design. It never hurts to make your design look unique.

Feel free to add variations to any design you use. You can do simple things, like changing the color, expression, or shape for different parts of the design as well as adding new elements to the design. With kids' face painting designs, anything goes! Kids will always appreciate a unique touch added to their design. It is great to be able to give a child options with your designs. If a child says I want a tiger, you can offer some varieties. Do they want one snarling with teeth, or do they want a goofy tiger with its tongue hanging out? Kids also do not care about colors, so you can also offer different colors. The most important thing to remember with kids' face painting designs is that you are creating a design to please a child. This gives you a lot more flexibility with kids' face painting designs because you don't have to make it an exact replica. Have fun with the designs and let your creativity roam free to create some of the best kids' face painting designs you've ever imagined!

Remember - how-to's for children's birthday party face painting design ideas are limited only by your own imagination. Reconfiguring old designs and adding the newest kids' interests into new designs will help you create fun and exciting kids face painting designs.

The art of face painting can be as simple or as complicated as the talent of the person painting. More adventurous and experienced painters can put a lot of detail into their pictures in an amazingly short amount of time.

There are many face painters who do simple designs such as American flags, simply by using this two part technique, then add details to the two different base colors that are split on the face.

The colors for face painting must be considered when choosing which pictures you'll want to paint. Will you want to offer only a certain theme suited for a nearby holiday or upcoming event?

When looking at pictures you can create other types of simple face painting designs by recognizing the basic shapes that make that design. Plenty of practice before a big event is necessary to ensure your success as well. Timing will decide how popular you'll be. If you should you take too long, a young child is certain to become impatient. Take into consideration the level of difficulty in a painting. Whatever pictures you choose, good quality outcome is the key to pull-in customers. Offer only pictures you know you can deliver well and quickly. Sloppy work will quickly kill any hopes of building your newfound business. The more thought and effort you put in, the more satisfaction you will get out.

Remember to take a camera and get pictures of your finished face painting for your portfolio. This will be necessary should you ever need to send someone a sample of your work when trying to obtain gigs. Don't forget the benefits of doing some work for free in order to build your reputation in the business. Last, but not least, consider hiring a partner to help you manage your booth.

Enhance your Face Painting Idea

Rashel Dan 2007-11-15
Title: Enhance your Face Painting Idea

If you have been face painting for quite some time now, are you running out of ideas? Or, if you are new to face painting, what are interesting and new ideas you can take to build on your new hobby or sideline work? This article is good for those who want a fresh face painting idea to boost their artistic reputation or those who are new to face painting.

Begin brainstorming for themes. Are there any holidays or special occasions coming up? Think of Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, spring break, or birthdays. Below is a list of themes you might want to use as a face painting idea:

- Fairytale - young children will find fantastical and fairytale themes fun to do. There are many ways to incorporate the fairytale theme into your face painting idea. Think of fairies, princesses, dwarves, unicorns, dragons, ogres, etc.

- Animals - animal themes are excellent for whole face painting. You can transform a face into a tiger or lion. Put some red paint on the nose, whiskers on the cheeks, and spots or stripes all over for that animalistic effect.

- Comic book characters - are another good face painting idea for kids. One idea is to paint a web-like pattern on the face so you can create Spiderman's look. There are many comic book characters out there, so your options are endless.

- Food - food themes are another excellent face painting idea especially for holidays with close association with food. You can paint on cupcakes, ice creams on cones, lollipops, or turkeys for thanksgiving face painting etc. Again, you have countless options.

- Nature - the natural environment can be a very good source of inspiration. Paint on flowers, butterflies, the sun, stars, clouds, etc. With face painting, you can actually create almost anything with just a brush and some paint.

- Carnival - use the color and life of carnival theme for the young-at-heart. These can include clowns, balloons, one-eyed monsters, and many more!

To make your theme more interesting, use other materials other than paint. Here are some materials you can use with your face paint:

- Face and body jewels - face and body jewels can add some texture and a bit of interest onto your piece of art. They are easy to use-just stick them on!

- Glitter - body glitter can add a different sparkle and enhance your overall face painting idea. Body glitters you can use are glitter dust, powders and gels. Whichever type of glitter you use, the versatile material can bring your work of art to life.

- Accessories and props - costumes go well with face painting but sometimes, simple accessories can achieve the effect at a much lesser cost. Wigs can complete the look of your face painting, especially if you are working on a "clown" design. Tiaras and wands are perfect for fairytale or princess themes. These fun accessories can be easily purchased at costume or toy shops.

Now you see that even a simply brainstorming on theme variations and the using of other materials can truly enhance your face painting idea into something extraordinary.

When face painting, don’t stop with the face, include body painting also. This is always a hit. Kids go crazy for body painting. This is great to do because it makes the kids feel like they are wearing a costume and they really have fun with the character that they have been painted as. Whether it be a king or a witch, this idea is a “no fail” when it comes to pleasing youngsters. And don’t worry about the time this may take. Just keep it simple, short, and sweet and it’s a snap!

Another of the free face painting ideas is for you to try mixing and using makeup with your face painting. Taking some cosmetic makeup and combining it with face painting is an awesome idea. You can use blush to create rosy cheeks on a princess or eye liner pencil to create whiskers on a cat. Using makeup creatively and in combination with face painting can save you time and effort. Beginners may also find this easier than using paint on certain designs. Simply test out and experiment with different cosmetics to find what works best for you.

An entirely new and incredible dimension to add to your face painting routine that has been tried and tested is the use of stick-on-jewels. What’s great about stick-on-jewels is that they are simple and incredibly effective. Kids love them and it escalates the look of any face painting from amateur to pro. They are also very simple to use. Just remove the paper backing and apply to the desired area. This is one of the best and most effective of the free face painting ideas.

Try to use costumes with your face painting for an incredible combination that delights every time! Finding simple costumes is the key to this favorite of all the free face painting ideas. You don’t have to go all out and spend a lot of money. That’s not necessary at all.

Some costume ideas:
• A simple black cape for a vampire.
• A paper crown for a king
• Paper bunny ears for a rabbit
• A paper or plastic tiara for a princess
• Stripes painted on t-shirts to look like a zebra or tiger
• Or an old sock or stocking stuffed with tissues, magazine pages, or newspaper to look like a tail for a monkey, lion, or tiger.

And the last of the free face painting ideas is for you to use good old glitter! It’s simple, cheap, and incredibly easy. You can find glitter gel, glitter powders, and glitter dust that all work well (you just need to decide which one works best for you). Just as the stick-on-jewelry can improve the look of your face painting, glitter can make your painting look highly professional.

There are endless free face painting ideas, you just need to be creative, use your imagination, and most importantly, have fun and enjoy your art!
