There’s no question about it. The recently-concluded sixth season of 24 was the worst in the history of the groundbreaking franchise. Barely halfway into it, avid fans and television critics alike were unanimous in complaining about the lackluster Day Six. The pacing seemed to drag considerably from past seasons and the episode storylines were loose and lacked cohesion. By the time the season came to a close, the ratings clearly reflected viewer sentiment, as the show received its lowest audience share since its inception. This was in glaringly stark contrast with the previous season, which posted the highest ratings in the series’ history. With the announcement of this year’s batch of primetime Emmy nominees, the final stamp of disapproval finally came as 24 was shut out of major categories save for one. As usual and expected, 24 star and executive producer, Kiefer Sutherland, got the nod as nominee for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series. There is little doubt that Sutherland is the face, voice, heart, mind and soul, not just of Jack Bauer, but of the entire 24 show. Sutherland has carried the program from its maiden year and has continued to give strong, solid performances ever since. Although he’s in the running again, Sutherland is not expected to make a repeat of his triumph last year, with The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini already the favorite to bring home this year’s statue. Aside from Sutherland’s, the only other nomination for 24 was Jean Smart’s repeat inclusion as Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Smart gave a brief, one-episode reprisal of her role as Martha Logan from the entire fifth season. Her single episode performance was both disturbed and tragic as the unhinged, estranged wife of former President Charles Logan although, in all likelihood, she stood a better chance of winning the award last year. Title: Ugly Betty Star Gets Support From Fellow Emmy Winner
Things are indeed really picking up for America Ferrera as the Ugly Betty star bagged the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series on Sunday Night, with fellow Emmy winner Sally Field of Brothers & Sisters cheering her on. "Aw, that is so sweet," Ferrera gushed hearing Access Hollywood's news that Sally Field was supportive of the young actress. "Sally is amazing... Sally Field is one of the people I grew up studying and admiring and loving and so that in itself is a dream come true." Having won an Emmy is a big thing for the 23-year-old Ferrera, who has indeed has come a long way from starring in HBO's Real Women Have Curves and the feature film, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But before all the success took place, she had gone through her fair share of failed auditions, including one wherein she dyed her dark hair blonde and covered her face with white powder. "It was a role that was written for a very standard, white skin, blond hair, blue-eyed American," Ferrera explained. "And it was a role that I wanted the opportunity to at least fail... so I just did something that was a little silly and would have never worked." "[The casting directors] laughed, then said ‘We get it, we get what you're saying, but you still don't have the part.' I was like, ‘OK.'" America recounted. Today, she has established herself as one of the most recognized faces in the industry, and is the first Latina in Emmy history to be named best comedic lead actress. "That's pretty amazing, I mean, that's great. It's a lot to take in," she said in a conversation with Access Hollywood. "I think the show has done really, really wonderful things for the Latino community and Latinos in Hollywood and I hope that it just continues to do the same and I hope we have so many, many years ahead of us."

Title: 2007 Emmy Analysis: The Office
After taking home the award for Outstanding Comedy Series in last year’s Emmys, The Office is once again, well-poised to win the category this year. It stands out among the rest of the shows nominated for Best Comedy Series, namely, 30 Rock, Entourage, Ugly Betty and Two and a Half Men. The Office made it to six major categories in the 2007 list of Emmy nominees. Apart from Best Comedy Series, Steve Carell also got the nod for the second straight year, for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy. He shares the field with Alec Baldwin from 30 Rock, Charlie Sheen from Two and a Half Men, Ricky Gervais from Extras and last year’s winner, Tony Shalhoub from Monk. Interestingly enough, Ricky Gervais had starred in the original U.K. version of The Office and is even one of the executive producers for the U.S. production. Apart from Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson and Jenna Fischer also got acting nominations for the popular sitcom. This is the most number of acting nominations The Office has ever received from the Emmys. Wilson was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor while Fischer was cited for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Greg Daniels and Michael Schur were also named for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series while Ken Kwapis got the nod for Outstanding Directing. While Steve Carell seems to be the heavy favorite in his category, Rainn Wilson faces stiff competition from a heavily stacked field. His co-nominees include Entourage’s Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven, Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother and Jon Cryer from Two and a Half Men. As for Ficher, she finds herself in a six-way contest with Jaime Pressly from My Name is Earl, Holand Taylor and Conchata Ferrell from Two and a Half Men, Vanessa Williams from Ugly Betty and Elizabeth Perkins from Weeds. Title: 2007 Emmy Analysis: Grey''s Anatomy
The 2006-2007 season of Grey’s Anatomy has been one of extreme highs and lows. It started off rocky enough with the incident that was to color the entire season. The Isaiah Washington-Patrick Dempsey tussle gave rise to the seemingly unending Isaiah Washington drama. The gay slur issue has taken on a life of its own, culminating in the post-season canning of Isaiah Washington. On a high note, Grey’s Anatomy did win Best Television Drama Series in this year’s Golden Globes and has just been included among the nominees for the same category in the recently announced Emmy nominations. In the acting department, T.R. Knight, who was embroiled at the center of the Isaiah Washington debacle, is also up for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, as are Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh and Katherine Heigl for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Rounding off the Grey’s Anatomy candidates are Elizabeth Reaser and Kate Burton, who both got the nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. There is some real contention among the Grey’s ladies for the Best Supporting Actress award. Joining them in the field are Aida Turturro and Lorraine Bracco from The Sopranos and Rachel Griffiths of Brothers & Sisters. As for Knight, he faces tough competition from William Shatner (Boston Legal), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson (Lost) and Masi Oka (Heroes). As for the race for Outstanding Drama Series, Grey’s Anatomy is up against Boston Legal, House, Heroes and The Sopranos. Grey’s is not expected to beat The Sopranos, which garnered a total of 15 nominations, second only to HBO’s made-for-TV-movie, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and is the heavy favorite to win this category. Interestingly enough, neither Patrick Dempsey nor Ellen Pompeo were cited in the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress Drama categories. Title: Sanford And Son (Season 2) DVD Review
Recipient of 7 Emmy and 6 Golden Globes nominations, including a Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, Sanford And Son is one of the first television shows in history to focus almost entirely on the lives of African-American characters. With a script adapted from the British TV series Steptoe & Son, Sanford And Son highlighted the underrated talent of popular stand-up comedian Redd Foxx (prevented by segregation from becoming a superstar decades earlier). Created by Norman Lear, the brains behind such hits as All In The Family, the show signaled the emergence of a new class of sitcoms penned by the 1970s writer. His work included such notable series as Maude (1972), Good Times (1974), and The Jeffersons (1975). Peppered with stinging one-liners and hilarious antics, Sanford And Son held a Top 10 position in the Nielsen ratings every year except its final season... The Sanford & Son (Season 2) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "By the Numbers" in which Fred dreams of a series of numbers. Despite Lamont's insistence in forbidding Fred to play the lottery, he believes his dream is destiny and it turns out to be so when Fred wins a $500 cash prize. Fred now finds himself a bit richer with a number of people hoping to get a piece of the action, among them - Aunt Ethel, Bubba, and a robber
Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Tooth or Consequences" in which Fred's toothache is amplified by his refusal to visit a dentist, and "A Guest in the Yard" in which Fred and Lamont discover a homeless vagrant sleeping in their junk yard
